I can't add much more than what has already been said in the positive reviews. Only negative thing I noticed was that some of the English spelling and grammar was a little off and that the Gatling Gun didn't seem to work properly but, it didn't take anything away from the game for me.
This is not really a *very* good game, but a passable one, and it's short enough that its drawbacks don't have time to manifest fully.
I liked the variety of missions (there are four types, which is three more than your typical SHMUP). I like the feeling of controls, more or less, and of impact of weapons (much better than, say, M.A.C.E.). But a lot of things are very *meh*.
While you have access to 12 ships, you don't *need* them, as they are not different enough. Just save a bit of money and buy the last one: it has the best armor and shooting power combo, and the special attack is nice.
Additional weapons also seem to be of limited usefullnes. The repair drone is a very good choice. Everything esle is less so.
The randomizing of enemies on levels removes the frustration if you have to replay a level, but leads to blandness: there are not enemy patterns here, though random combinations sometimes force you to weave and dodge.
Bullets are mostly visible against the background in space, but in planetary levels, they are often not - a grave sin in this genre! Fortunately, there are only a few such levels.
The levels are reasonably hard, but since the game is very forgiving and both gives you several lives AND allow to only replay the latest level if you spend all lives, you won't really have any problems. Bosses are boring and unmemorable: they pretty much follow the same pattern.
All in all, it's an OK game to kill a few evenings, but if you're looking for a GREAT shoot em up, better check out Xenoraid or Drifting Lands.
A surprisingly good space shooty arcade style game. There are a great deal of ships to unlock and choose from, each with different stats, primary weapons (though most tend to shoot straight forwards) and unique ship specific abilities, many of which are very fun to use and look at in action. You also get to choose a special weapon to use to complement your ships abilities or weaknesses or strengths. Again, there is a good amount to choose from.
Enemy variety is decent, bosses are OK, powerups are what you would expect. There is nothing revolutionary here.
The looks might be a bit decieving though, it feels very smooth to play and there are some surprisingly nice looking (and deadly) effects that can happen, usually when using a ships special ability.
There is only one outstanding bad thing and that is the translation. It is passable but bad enough to make certain item or weapon abilites unclear and trying to follow the story is gonna end with constant facepalms. It is a good thing a story is not what most care about in this kind of game, but it would have been nice to be able to follow it without feeling like you are reading a sci-fi story paper a 5 year old handed in to their teacher. Other than that everything else becomes clear as you use items and weapons.
If you want to shoot aliens with spaceships like the old days but still have some variety in the gameplay and looks, then this is definitely a game you want and something you can come back to every now and then for some shooty goodness.
That is what I wanted, and that is what I got.
Deceivingly deep shmup
Pushing Game Maker Studio to the limit, Galaxy Annihilation is a fun, old school, 2D shmup. While not innovative in any way, Galaxy Annihilation is very detailed, everything from the graphics, powerups, character portraits, has been crafted with care.
13 different ships to unlock and many weapon and other upgrades, and two different game modes (campaign and survival) give this title a high replayability. Ships really play different, so unlocking a new ship gives new flavor to the game every time.
While this shmup doesn't stand out in any particular way, it's a fun and easy to get into game. Since this game has low requirements, it's bound to run well in any laptop or low end computer.
Music rocks.
I appreciate the linux build
