Blending pixelart mayhem and arcade action, Infectonator 3: Apocalypse has you lurching across the world map to wipe out humanity before it wipes out you. By causing the most destruction in each area and reaching target goals, you'll be able to jump from one continent to the next. But beware; not only will humans start deploying powerful zombie countermeasures during levels, they'll also begin researching a cure. If that happens, it's game over! The good news is that with hordes of zombies, mutatued monstrosities, and powerful traps and weapons on your side, you're not giving up this apocalypse without a fight.
Features
- Over 35 Zombies to Discover and Craft – Splice DNA to unlock new mutations, from common walking-undead to leaping alien parasites. Build your brain-hungry army and master their abilities to turn humanity into mulch.
- A Wonderfully Warped World – Infectonator 3: Apocalypse takes place in the real world... well, sort of! As you destroy the globe, you'll encounter parodies and morbid humor of all sorts, but beware. The humans will not go quietly, and have their own defenses.
- Classic Pixelart With a Modern Twist – Expressive and cute-yet-creepy 2D humans and monsters roam dynamically lit 3D environments. Sending hordes of undead monsters to devour flesh has never looked so pretty!
- Over 200 Unique Interactive Levels – Open or lock doors, blow up walls... use the environment to your advantage and make sure your zombies get to the very last human to earn bonus cash and creatures for your lab.
- Built for Challenge and Customisation – Randomized events, mutations, and locations add difficulty to various maps, while optional modifiers can make the game harder... or more casual, if you prefer.

Just as addicting as it was when I was playing the Android version on my Samsung Galaxy S3 as a sophmore in highschool on the way to school at 6 in the morning. Missions are just as compact as they were then with the same chaos clicking infectinator style gameplay with bursts of 30 seconds to 2 minutes long. Good zombie game for the cheap and a must play if you've never played one of these games.
I really dislike that you have a limited stockpile of zombies that you have to use for both upgrading and summoning zombies. This discourages you from summoning zombies, which is the whole point of the game.
Imagine being the sole survivor of a zombie outbreak at the mall only to have God drop a landmine on your head
This is a fun little arcade game. There is a system that successfully creates replay value. The visuals/audio are pleasing and low tech, so you can enjoy the game even on a lower spec machine. There is a bunch of personality written into the small scenes and it is pretty satisfying to watch your zombies munch on people. While I wouldn't consider it a difficult game, there is a bit of a learning curve with regards to what to purchase and when.
While I don't think this is going to be a candidate for game of the year, I wholeheartedly recommend this to anyone even remotely interested. Lots of fun to be had here.
Fun, easy, replayable.
This isn't fun.
yes... maybe...
totally addictive and you're afternoon will disappear in a puff of smoke with zombie goodness
This game is pretty good, I believe I remember playing one or more of the previous games as either flash games or mobile games, so I think the series has directly influenced my interest in this sort of top-down virus genre.
The devs of Plague Inc and this need to collab at some point, the two games are very similar and yet have some very stark differences, and I'd love to see what they make.
I love this style of game and I've been playing things like it since I was a kid. Whether they keep going with this genre or branch into something entirely different, I am here to experience whatever they've got cooking.
I love getting to see the infection slowly spreading through cities. Plague Inc does it in a top-down fashion, really only influencing whatever disease you make in a vague manner, but here you get to directly impact how the disease spreads - primarily by increasing the stats of the zombies and the places where the disease spreads, but also you get to influence the infection site after choosing where you want to go next.
One thing of note (decide whether or not this is a good or bad thing) is that unlike Plague Inc., you can only improve your zombies, you can't really downgrade or refund things, primarily because the upgrades are a straight benefit.
There really isn't any way to go "under the radar" in terms of infection, humanity WILL notice your disease, and it will eventually send out troops to combat the dead.
I love the series, and hope to see more. Good stuff.
good game, wish there was more modifiers tho.
GG
It's an alright game. I played a bit and enjoyed it. Unfortunately, something about it triggers my migraines, so I will be refunding it.
Human Labs are less likely to be built in the Middle East compared to other regions of the world in my 3 play throughs of the game. I lost on the 3rd play through since I did not expect a lab in the Middle East. Also interestingly enough you can avoid the ZIT if you complete a stage early.
TL;DR: It’s a quick and fun game that brings back the charm of old flash games. Get this during a sale (around 50% off or more), it’s definitely worth $5, but a bit pricey at full price for a game with only one mode.
I was a huge fan of the original game on the Armor Games site and played it multiple times, including the mobile version. Naturally, I enjoyed revisiting the Infectonator world in Infectonator 3, evolving zombie minions, and unlocking elite zombies. However, a certain issue hampered my overall enjoyment.
This issue is “the tutorial messages”, which gave me a misleading impression about a crucial mechanic. The tutorial suggested that status upgrades from lab improvements would significantly improve my zombies. In reality, these upgrades only had minor effects. The impactful upgrades were hidden in the Elite Zombie Upgrade tab, a fact I didn’t realize until much later. This misunderstanding made my first play-through extremely frustrating, as I struggled to keep up with the escalating world perks and ultimately hit a progression wall, resulting in a failed game.
About the Game
Infectonator 3 follows the same formula as its flash predecessor: you’re an evil scientist aiming to cause a zombie apocalypse using your undead minions and a handful of tools. There’s no real story aside from occasional world news reports, which reveal new global perks to counter your zombies.
This time, the developers introduced a new mechanic—a mix of Plague Inc-style cure research escalation and XCOM-style panic-meter difficulty progression, Panic meter.
The Panic Meter is split into World and Zone levels. It increases through various triggers, such as the passage of days, attacking regions, and reaching infection thresholds. Once the Panic Meter crosses specific points, regional and global perks are unlocked, representing the world’s reaction to the zombie apocalypse. Additionally, research labs randomly appear and begin developing a cure.
The core gameplay loop involves attacking regions, collecting coins, and completing challenges. These actions allow you to evolve your zombies, expand your reach, and ultimately dominate the world.
It’s important to note that global perks significantly boost the world’s combat potential against your zombies. By the mid-to-late game, even untouched regions will feature fully armed civilians and soldiers who can quickly wipe out underleveled zombies.
This Panic Meter progression creates a mid-game difficulty spike, especially when elite soldiers are introduced. If you’re ahead of the Panic Meter’s perks, the game is fun and manageable. However, if you fall behind, it can become frustrating and even lead to hitting a progression wall.
Limited Replayability
The game only offers a World Domination mode, with various modifiers unlocked after completing runs. Activating these modifiers costs coins, which are earned by winning the game. Unfortunately, this single mode can feel repetitive after three playthroughs. For this reason, I wouldn’t recommend buying the game at full price.
Tips for New Players
- Evolve Basic Zombies FIRST in the Elite Zombie Lab Upgrade tab. And ignore evolving other zombies. This significantly boosts basic zombie stats and helps you stay ahead of the difficulty curve.
- Prioritize upgrading Speed and Lifespan, while spreading some points into other stats.
- For DNA upgrades, focus on stat boosts (like armor) rather than unlocking new zombies early on.
[*] Use support items (e.g., grenades) during the mid-game difficulty spike. They can help you achieve perfect map clears, which grant valuable bonus coins and zombies.
Final Thoughts
Infectonator 3 has a lot of charm, especially if you enjoyed the original flash games. However, slightly misleading tutorial and the limited content make it hard to justify the full price. Get it on sale, follow the tips above, and have fun!
Just as fun as the flash version back then.
A classic flash series, really addicting seeing all the noises and sprites. I just wish there was a better description or voiceover for the panic mechanic or bosses having an effect on anything besides progression. ALSO BRING THE INFECTONATOR SERIES TO STEAM PLS!
I thought this was a casual fun zombie game, considering it's Flash Game history.
It may seem fun at first but it gets increasingly frustrating later because countries will start wielding weapons even civilians.
You forgot your specials? Well too bad they're going to progress without you. No zombies and Money? You better upgrade all your money on your zombie's stats cuz you aren't going anywhere without it.
You have to do it PERFECTLY, even on casual.
I picked up this game out of nostalgia for the original games. This is not nearly as fun as the older games, and is frankly frustrating. Zombie upgrades are tied to the amount of "zombies" you have, which means summoning zombies takes away from upgrades. Upgrading in general is super slow. The game jumps between being too easy and impossible. Don't know what the developer was thinking, but almost every mechanic introduced in this game takes away from the fun. Games are meant to be fun.
Nice.
It's a great game for how simple it is, everything runs well and it's genuinely enjoyable
Intro credit video of ''Toge games'' is so eardrum ripping loud, it will destroy your speakers. Wtf.
Is not good as the first one.
I personally hated Infectonator 3 for its breaking away from the original series "grittiness" and embracing a mobile style simplicity and "cute" vibe. So, I bought it on sale with zero expectations and found myself having to play through it like I did the first 2 installments. Its a humorous time killer that I'll have in my halloween reply pile!
Leaving withouot doing anything raises risk fuckiung why what the fuck i had to leave beacuse i was out of speciuals fuck you
WQHY THE FUCK DO I HAVE TO UNCLICK THE TUTORAIL EVERY TIME I NEED TO RESTART CONSTANTL;Y TO KEEP RISK DOWN FUCKS SAKE
"Wait... what does he do again?"
Most people who found this game were familiar with its flash game predecessors, including its medieval spinoff, Necronator. For those familiar with the formula, I do immediately recommend the game. While the difficulty has increased, and actually has a defeat condition, you can also just turn that off and play it at your leisure like in previous games.
No story in the game, the whole premise is straightforward: kill and/or infect everyone with the zombie virus using a combination of normie zombies, explosive tools and a pretty big array of special zombies; you're sure to find your preference. The more you kill the more the world panics, increasing the number of armed defenders and also increasing their health and damage, as well as progress how long it takes for humanity to develop a zombie virus cure.
It's short, simple and easy to pick up, but can scale pretty quickly out of control if you attack larger areas too recklessly before you can capably kill enough people to clear a region. Once you hop out of the midgame difficulty spike it becomes easy peasy again, for better or worse.
Recommend to anyone on sale, but I wouldn't pay full price for it
I'm giving it a thumbs up only because is Infectonator and I'm enjoying my second playthrough of it with "casual" mode turned ON.
Edit: nvm. even on casual there's still a HUGE difficulty spike.
A couple warnings before buying the game:
- Only get it on a deep discount. Definitely not worth the almost $20 cad asking price. For the $5 I got it at, yeah.
And the big one: The difficulty of the base game without casual mode turned on is... pretty bad. If you've ever played an Infectonator game before (I highly recommend playing the first one if you haven't. It's free and lots of fun!) you'll know how the game works. UNFORTUNATELY, the dev decided to add some new mechanics. And if these mechanics were more well-balanced, I would honestly love them. But the Plague Inc/Pandemic type mechanics are brutal in this game.
Firstly, each continent has a "panic" meter which slowly increases the more you play. Even when getting a "Perfect" score(killing all humans in the map in one go), this WILL increase no matter what. Which is fair I suppose. Can't exactly expect people to shrug off a zombie virus, even though it's just starting out. On top of that, the world itself ALSO has a panic meter. This will increase periodically and quicker if you don't play perfectly. Once the world panic meter hits a certain increment, the cure starts being developed. A random lab will show up on a random part of the world. You have to slowly make your way there to take it down. During the map screen days will go by automatically, leaving you no time to really thing and look at the map. Every day, the cure bar goes up.
This all sounds fun but the problem is the implementation of it and how punishing it is. It's almost impossible to get a perfect score in every map the first try for various reasons, thus your mistakes will end up making the game even harder. The more you score perfectly = the easier the game is. The more you make mistakes = the harder it becomes. Kicking you while you're down sort of thing. And there's no way to come back from that. As soon as the panic meters reach a certain point, you're screwed.
Each increment of either panic meters will make the humans stronger and more countries start having labs that develop the cure. Eventually, maps that are supposed to be easy starting points will eventually have 25 guys armed with guns (On a map that has 15 humans, which eventually brings the ratio of having more guys with guns than civilians in the maps...) who will end your infection 0.1ms before it can even begin. Making it LITERALLY impossible to progress.
AND while that's going on, the cure is still being developed unless you destroy the country it's being developed in. HOWEVER there is NO way to progress fast enough to be able to destroy a country before it's able to finish researching half of the cure, or more.
Not to mention, ONTOP of that, as the cure progresses, medicine will be given out to the population that increases their health.
SO, unless you've gotten a "perfect" completion in every map since the beginning of the game, eventually you'll be facing 30 armed, semi-immune people guarding 15 people (who eventually also will be given armor and weapons! lovely) you're supposed to infect.
And ONTOP of all that, progress is VERY slow. Even if you do somehow score perfect, you're unlikely to have progressed enough stat-wise to finish the rest of the world off. Forcing a defeat and difficulty wall around day 60-80.
It doesn't help that half the game is luck based.
To alleviate ALL the above problems and make the game more like the original Infectonator, there is "casual mode" you can turn on. And this is the mode I recommend playing on lest you're a masochist. It makes it a little TOO easy but it's either too easy or extremely hard. I'd rather go with easy. It gets rid of the cure mechanic all together and also reduced the rate at which the panic meters rise, thus making the game more forgiving and allowing you to actually progress. The only issue is that there's a 50% score reduction on this mode which sucks and makes grinding the other modifiers not worth it.
TL;DR: Base game unfairly difficult. Play on casual despite the score reduction.
Great Game!
Good game but I recommend buying on sale.
Great and addicting in the classic "timesink flash game" genre. I remember playing this years ago so I'm glad its on Steam. The gameplay is quite simple to understand so once it clicks you probably won't face a challenge after about 4 hours of playtime, but there are mutators available. It can also be 100%d in around 8-12 hours.
addictive
It's pretty much just the classic Infectonator games, just with a lot more quirky changes, it's even got a leader board if you're into being competitive.
not as advertised
fun epic
this is a great grind game been playing since way back on armor games
This game series was always nostalgic to me. I remember playing this as an old flash game during computer time at school. I always loved the thought of taking over the world with zombies, as a normal sane person does. But after 100%ing this game, I can say that the game series still holds up quite well. Some of the achievements caused a 2-3 hour game to go to a 13 hour one, but overall, It's still a pretty fun game. It does have some outdated references but I still enjoy it. If they were to make another game, I hope they make it more focused on the semi-fusion gimmick with the zombies and make a whole game about making weird and cool zombie variants while taking over the world. I give this game a solid 9/10
good
