Gamecat Update
Boxed In is more than just a puzzle game. if you manage to escape the "Puzzle Room" you can explore a magical island, visit a castle, swim with sharks and discover a jet-pack! There's even a jet-pack mini-game to uncover!
Original Description
You find yourself in a room with no exits. Colourful cubes move towards you from the far wall, the ceiling, or from beneath your feet. To avoid being squashed you must create matches of the same colour. When a match is made, the cubes will explode and destroy any others of the same colour touching them. They keep coming, faster and faster. How long will you survive?
If you prefer a more relaxed experience then you can play in Solitaire mode. The room starts full of static cubes and you can take your time to clear them. Even the music is more relaxed in this mode!
Difficulty is determined by three options: number of colours, match-type, and where the blocks come from. Once you've mastered three colours you can increase to four or five. If making matches of 3-in-a-row is too easy, then switch to a block-of-four. If you prefer to be squashed from above or below then change the direction the blocks come from. In total there are 36 variations of play.
You have the ability to: change the colour of a cube, add a new cube, or push a cube when it's close to you. The game can be played with or without VR. You can run the tutorial to get familiar with each control type.
The goal is to get the highest score you can before you are either crushed by the cubes (in Survival) or you clear the room (in Solitaire). If you remove cubes quickly then you earn a multiplier allowing you to increase your score rapidly. Each of the 36 game modes has a leaderboard dedicated to it. Get your name up there and challenge your friends!

boxed in is a 1st-person matching game, supports vr if that's your thing. you're in a confined space with a gun that can change the color of blocks and place new ones, so do that to make matches as new blocks keep appearing on their own as well. an optional tutorial teaches the basics.
if you get out, there's more to explore, but I never made it that far. well, I fell through the ground a couple of times and got stuck in space, but it probably doesn't count. I was told by the dev it's part of the game, but all it does is ruin the run and it's fucking annoying when it happens. if it looks and feels like a bug or glitch, it should be considered as such and fixed.
the game is endless score attack, there's survival and solitaire. in the former you have to act quick before blocks reach the other end of the room, the latter is more relaxed, no time pressure or new blocks, just clear the mostly filled room. no outside exploration after non-survival completion either, which is a bummer, so it's essentially just busywork for nothing.
further customization includes number of colors (3, 4 or 5), match mode (rows or blocks), where blocks come from (above, below or from the back wall), and there's a separate leaderboard for all the variations. block matching is harder than rows and I found the 'from above' setting the least enjoyable due to the controls while always having to look up. gravity only applies to 'back wall' mode, in the other two loose blocks stay in mid-air.
you can't switch color on the gun, nor is the next color the one you just 'collected' from a block or something. every shot is colored randomly, making things more difficult, but matches kind of explode and remove other connected blocks of the same color, so there's that.
speaking of, controls aren't rebindable and arrows don't work for movement, only wasd, huge accessibility issue. space jumps, left click changes the color of the block you're aiminig at, right click adds a new block to the side of the targeted block, middle mouse, ctrl or shift pushes a block when it's close. if that has a choice of 3, why is basic movement so restricted? it doesn't help that the mouse can bug out, you're suddenly looking at a completely different place than a second ago. very disorienting and annoying.
settings are for separate volumes, languages, graphics quality, invert y-axis, sensitivity and movement speed, plus colorblind options, but no resolutions or windowed mode.
as simple as it is, it's pretty good (some of the combinations anyway), though I had to constantly remind myself that I can move, jump and push, and of course survival is a lot more stressful than I like my games to be, leading to constantly mixing up left and right click. that's on me, however, the game can't be paused, which is inexcusable, hence the non-recommendation. if basic functionality ever gets added, I'll edit the review.
Not the most visually detailed, but for an indie, simple and relaxing (if you do Solitaire mode) game, this is good to play. Amongst the three setups, I prefer the back-to-wall and looking-down arrangements. Looking up is exciting in survival mode, but this arrangement is awfully painful on my neck.
Some glitchy things you may find when teleporting on top of a block: If you don't stand close enough to the center of the block, you end up teleporting to the side of it and then falling down. Not a big deal breaker, but it can throw you off-balance. In the looking-down Solitaire mode. there have been times where I can break certain blocks downward and venture down there like cave exploring. This is cool, but at times you can teleport into 1x1 cube spaces and the visuals start jittering. It's as if your character teleported too close to an object and can't figure out where it should go. Luckily you can teleport away and that'll get you out of that eyesore.
Other than that, not bad for what you're paying.
