Great game. Wish it had a bigger following.
after you get the hang out it , its a decent game . when playing after moving use pause lol . if you dont makes it harder, easier to set up your players to battle. pick up others weapons and it can be hard some levels. over all 4/5 after when i play a little more longer i will write another.
i loved this game and i wish the developer would have made more games like this.
even though the dev wont be updating the game anymore its still alot of fun and a great game perhaps they will allow us to mod it in the future and we can finish the lawless frontier for them
Dipped into this and completed main quests. The frontier mode has the most potential for a big selling game. Needs bug fixes, features, missions and consequences. Can I go beyond being an outlaw and own everything? Can I burn Civilisation to the ground? Can I become a mayor or a farmer? These are the big questions. Love shooting anyone I like though.
Yes. This is a great "popcorn" game, not super deep and it won't blow your mind, but it's fun and the variety in the levels keeps things interesting for several hours.
One level might require you to ambush a group of lawmen before they can execute an imprisoned friend; in another you might lay siege to an entire town; another might have you scrambling for resources to repel an attack by overwhelming numbers; another might be a simple bank robbery.
Playing a level usually takes less than 5 minutes, making it ideal to pick up for a quick taste of blood, and each level has several tiers of victory. Finishing a level at all feels good; additionally, you can earn a "gold" ranking for meeting level-specific challenges, such as wrapping up in under a minute, or beating the level with no casualties. Completing the whole campaign on Outlaw (Normal) difficulty took me about 5 hours, including lots of replaying levels to get the gold ratings.
This game won't dazzle you with millions of features and there are some obvious QOL improvements I'd like to see added, but for a quick & dirty indie strategy shoot-'em-up made by a one-man studio, it does the job better than admirably. I paid full price ($8) and got my money's worth.
Funny realtime tactics (with pause) game occurs in wild west.
The game was fun while it lasted, but the developer seems to have killed it.
A good tactics game - enough complexity to make each level an interesting challenge.
Clearing buildings is tough enough that the "secure buildings to get an advantage" mechanic gives a good risk/reward temptation, and I usually end up making different choices on each level (though I do crave that Saloon advantage...)
Play it on permadeath/iron man.
Games dead and unfinished
why is it still on steam?
Game with great potential. The original game mode is ok, quickly played through. The new game mode (currently in beta) looks great and very promising! Looking forward to being able to play the final version of it!
Absolutely love the "base building" aspect. So far (in beta) there is not too much to build though yet.
I hope there will be more building/aspects added.
Update: The developer officially stopped development on the new game mode. Without that mode, the game lacks a huge part (and by far doesn't meet it's potential anymore).
Completed the linear campaign in about 3 hours. There is, of course, an element of replayability, but I'm hoping that the non-campaign/sandbox update will improve this. If you don't use real "permadeath" (i.e., your bandits die permanently in mission and you have to recruit new ones) then there's not really much point in having a gang larger than four.
It's a fun game to play, and the ability to pause time can help you to refine your plans, though for the most part I just sent my four bandits in all at once and they blasted the hell out of everyone.
Non-frustration gameplay, and if the developer carries out his promises for the updates, I'll definitely have another crack at this game.
Yeeeehaaaw!
It took me awhile to get into Westslingers. At first I died, and then... I died a little more. However, like a lot of good tactics games, I kept getting that urge to come back and try again. Now it's one of my favorites when I need a quick break.
Some tips I found, use the tactics mode to pause and make a plan. This is great for holstering, drawing, and coordinating a simultaneous raid when you have a bigger posse. Speaking of which, start recruiting from the Lineup on the main menu as soon as you get some cash. Once you have a few people in your posse it gets a lot more fun to plan out a strategy.
It still often takes me a few lives to really map out a mission, but the later missions have a lot more going on and are fun to try and get perfect. In the end, I am glad I picked it up. It has a cool charm to it, some really great moments, and like I said it is great for when you want something fun and quick.
I enjoyed this game however and it might just be for me but the last lvl freezes everytime, anyone having the same issue?
either all i hope to see more updates this games fun as hell
This is a fun little tactics game.
If you like the combat in games like Rimworld, then think of this as a set of scripted missions using that sort of gameplay.
Missions can be tackled in a variety of ways, and your gang members have unique talents and abilities that you can upgrade as they level up. I particularly liked the "pocket sand" ability, that lets you blind enemies within a certain cone.
On normal difficulty the game is not particularly difficult, I ended up completing the campaign losing only 2 gang members, while using the same 4 gang members to complete most missions. That said I did make thorough use of the "tactics mode" which lets you pause time and plan out your actions carefully.
Completing the enjoyable campaign on normal difficulty took me a good 6 hours, I feel it's worth the price.
I've just started this game and I really like the art style and direction of the game. I still need to figure out some of the core mechanics but you can find my first impressions here:

Saw the Dev's post on reddit loved the look and style of the game so i picked it up.
Had some fun beating this game. It's a nice pick up and drop game. Not long to beat nice re-playability. Wanted some more character customization. 8/10 Thanx for the game.
Cross Frozen Synapse with Rimworld style graphics, add in some Django Unchained and strip everything else and you get this fun, bloody little game. Only lasts around 5 hours (unless you like replaying for better scores) so might be a tad expensive but I had fun the whole time.
Very quick missions, pausable real time combat, not a lot of options but surprisingly deep and nuanced under the hood. What it ends up doing really well is making you feel like an outlaw gang trying to get out of town after a score, or staging prison breaks and ambushing rival gangs. There's no narrative sense to it, just excuses to put your little band in iconic western scenarios.
Pros
- super bloody, satisfying combat
- captures the chaos of western fights perfectly
- surprising tactical depth and nuance
- forces great running battles where you react to the town
- difficulty ramps up a lot with higher difficulty levels
- default difficulty felt just right for me (I don't like repeating levels too much)
Neutral
- very streamlined, boils down to just mission after mission
- light RPG elements but no actual choice when leveling or customizing
- cutsey flash type graphics (think zoomed in, more detailed Prison Architect)
Cons
- only 3 items of equipment, no customization, no loot
- only brief mission descriptions that don't link together
- more expensive than most games that give such a short playthrough (5 hours)

This is my favorite game that I've picked up in the past few months - I'll definitely be playing it for awhile. It's like a mix between Starcraft and Hitman! Starcraft because of the action sequences, the controls, and how each building has a purpose that you can use strategically. Hitman because the entire game has this really quality simulated AI, so they react to your characters in interesting and realistic ways. You can case the joint out (Hitman / Payday style) before executing on your master plan. And of course, you can always pause the game during the action to get your bearings if things go haywire. Which they will.
In terms of game length and replayability - I definitely think it's there. I'm about 7 hours in and I'm taking it slow. Getting gold on every mission before moving on, which means first learning everything about the mission, then perfecting your strategy for the speed run. Because of the quality AI, every run is somewhat different so it's actually really fun to play a mission over and over to squeeze the best time out. And have an enemy scare the crap out of you when he does something different this time around! There are plenty of elements of the game I haven't even scratched the surface of yet (like special abilities and the advanced tactics of all the buildings). So there's a ton of depth and plenty more to learn.
So, definitely recommended if - you like games with emergent playstyles, you like thinking-man games where tactics actually matter, and if you like shoot-em-up Westerns!
Be warned - you are eased into the action a bit but there's still a learning curve to get past. The basic commands are easy to pick up but it's strategy that takes awhile to sink in. But when it does and you get those "ah-hah" moments - the best feeling in the world! I ran across this game on Reddit and I'm definitely glad I tried it out. Looking forward to playing this a lot more and also seeing what's next from Tailwind Games!
This tactics game that mostly runs in real-time, but it has a pause mode where you can be more precise with your plan in critical moments. You start with a single outlaw and grow your gang by rescuing members from jail and unlocking more recruits as your gang notoriety grows. The better you do in each mission, the more notoriety and bounty you'll earn to recruit additional members. Each gang member has four random skills that unlock as you play, and you can use each skill once per mission to give you some kind of advantage.
The missions themselves are fairly difficult if you Rambo your way through the map, but if you exploit enemy line of sight and make use of cover then things will go a lot better for you. Wanted status is also important to watch for. In many missions no one will give you trouble as you walk around the town, but as soon as you're reported for doing something wrong you'll be Wanted and the law will shoot you on sight. So if you see some farmer running for the sheriff you might want to gun him down before he can expose you.
My biggest complaint is that some of the controls and mechanics weren't obvious at first. I finally noticed the link to the full instructions in the quick guide and that did a pretty good job of explaining how stuff worked.
This is a pretty cool puzzle game. Each mission can be played differently multiple times - I really liked this aspect. It's easy once you know the sequence that works. But before you get it, you have to die many-many times. I tried permadeath mode as well, but it was too much for me.
You can play the game real-time if you don`t like to pause. But I used strategic mode a lot and planned carefully what to do. Later on characters started to gain talents and it changed the gameplay (I loved Pocket-sand and Knife throw a lot - very useful stuff).
Overall the game is fun and challenging, each mission has unique objectives ( and calls for a different approach), team members get unique talents and random nicknames (you can`t choose talents though - it looks random). Characters are cute (remind me of South Park).
