Haunted Hotel: Stay in the Light

You have just been hired at Haunted Hotel, but on your first day of work you discover that the Hotel is haunted has some quirks.
Some dark force is killing the guests staying in the dark. Using the hotel's security system your job is to protect guests and stay alive for three nights by controlling the hotel's lights.
Lights are your only weapon to save the guests and yourself. Take care the lights did not last all night, so ration the energy and good luck!

Strategy
Develop a strategy for using electricity wisely, as it will not last all night with all rooms lit.

Terror
Death is prowling the Hotel, but no one can see it. Go into each room and scan the room if death is in the scanned room it will appear. Turn on the light immediately to expel it from the room and it will return to the hallway.

Shop
At each end of the night you will earn money from the "daily rate" for every living survivor. Use this money to make improvements to your security system

Haunted Hotel: Stay in the Light is a low effort ripoff of Five Nights at Freddies, except it's a hotel and ghosts that you're platespinning your cameras for. Detect a ghost, turn on the light to frighten them, turn off the light to conserve power, well, everyone should know what FNAF is all about. This is much, much worse. Let's go into the rather long list of serious problems with this shovelware.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics.

The game features somewhat lazy, simplistic 2D graphics, of the type you normally expect to see in low effort Flash/browser games and mobile apps. Considering this is being evaluated as a PC game, having the graphics phoned in like this isn't going to result in a high quality, visually impressive game that PC gamers are used to seeing.

The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming.

The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the game display in fullscreen, it only runs in a window.

Bewilderingly, the game doesn't include proper audio controls, so you can't turn off the annoying background music/sounds, you'll need to alt+tab out and stop the music using the Windows sound mixer. This is obviously not okay and it's unclear why the developers chose not to include this basic feature.

The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just point and click stuff like a browser/Flash game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here.

Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the Clickteam Fusion game engine/toolset - the "No-Code" construction kit that "Anyone can make games with!!". Including, you know, people who aren't game developers. Which is a problem. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur developers as it's free (so they don't have to pay for GameMaker Studio) and doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities (it's arguably worse than GameMaker Studio). Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine.

The very poor quality of this game puts it squarely on-par with ancient 1990's Flash/Java games, and given it's 2023 (and this was released not so far back in 2017), gamers and the industry expect and deserve better than this kind of low effort shovelware.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

Haunted Hotel: Stay in the Light didn't appeal much to the people who own a copy of the game, either. It has achievements, and they show us a very clear picture that the game didn't really capture any interest from gamers. The most commonly and easily attained achievement is for playing long enough to get through one night, and only around 38 percent of players bothered to get that far before uninstalling the game. Hardly a success story, gamers just weren't all that interested in the game.

The poor quality of this game is also reflected in the general public reception. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 3 players. That's right, only 3. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 50,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in the game is to be expected. Gamers just didn't take this low quality game seriously, and for good reason.

Haunted Hotel: Stay in the Light is seriously overpriced at $3 USD, and it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

Fairly dull gameplay with nary a jumpscare to keep you interested.
No fullscreen mode.
FNAF clone :/
Scanning for death doesn't help at all.
Would not reccomend.
