I wanted relaxing esthetical match-3 game. I accepted the compromise it's shooting mode only. I see the motive is India, the story contains park creation and Maharaja. Sounds cool. India is awesome theme, garden seems relaxing and creative idea. But then I play it:
First I am surprised it's not relaxing but rather hard level. Then I start to feel really bad that something is not right. Let me tell I am male and a straight one. But the way I am feeling is just the way as if another man's penis was in my ass (!!) and I am realizing I was silently rolled into a wedding fudge cake and surrounded and locked on gay wedding party where everyone is part of the suffocating conspiracy, guiding my way to the wedding altar and blocking my way out! I have been literally raped! There was no mention this game is the most sugary and cliché stereotypization for girls! I don't suffer masculinity issues so I don't need to prove it by motorbikes and gore, I can enjoy lot of things women enjoy, there is certainly a girlish part inside me and I am even romantic guy but this is too much. Even for a very romantic person.
The music is so poor and little it becomes annyoing in just few minutes. Is it just 3 songs or so that you should listen to for dozens of hours with no option to change the music?? And it's not just sweet romantic music. It is like condensed milk made from the most kitchy german romantic movies full of specific emotion and ideas which tell you are finally getting your dreamed up wedding and other better not to mention disgusting ideas that possibly only most stupid girls could have in their heads! Everything is so manipulative towards the one oversugared mindset, you can't escape it. Even the sounds on background, if you only stop to notice what did they carefuly and deliberately put in there, contain sounds of baby seals asking their mums for food or other animals, crying or mating. What the hell does that do in match-3 game with park creation motiff? You can say they are trying to manipulate you subliminally and they treat you like a seal! Other sounds are also deliberately chosen to support this specific female stereotype and trigger hormones.
The character for which you are playing, and which no one mentioned in the description of the game, is female. No maharaja but maharaja's fresh wife or soon to be wife (the story is bit unclear, not really explained). What is happening in the so-called story is that the female character is taking her "courage" to for the first time in her life do some job all by herself while her husband cheers her and "suffers" terribly, waiting for her to do this "mature" job. Oh gosh! How much it hurts emotionally and how much it hurts the brain.
And what is the dramatic job? It's job of designing garden, which is somehow supposed to banish some never explained curse, and which consists of choosing one kitchy option out of three options - yes, that's all the creativity in the game. What a designing hard job and freedom!
Dear designers, if nothing else, at least you could have stated this was meant for girls who are mad about weddings. If not fraudulence, it's at least arrogant ignorance that you didn't care to state it, when you focus on so specific customer group. If you were selling pink plastic one-use wedding high-heel shoes with huge pink fake rose on them, you wouldn't be presenting them as just unisex "shoes". Which is precisely what you are doing here. With inability to return it thanks to the Steam's practically no-returns policy if you don't realize all the issues within first few minutes, it's a serious issue that deserves negative review at least.
The game itself is not bad, it technically works fine and the graphics, even though with kitchy eyes-hurting colors, has some esthetics. But as was stated, it's too difficult for relaxing game and it's poorly wrapped. The rating you get for your perfomance seems not based on how well you played the level, but on theoretical expectations not achievable with the tiles setup you get, no matter whether it's random or premade or likely a combination. So no matter how well you play, you keep getting only one of possible three star rating most of time. Something is obviously wrong with the setup. You are happy you survived and made it at least. The coins you get are accordingly low so you become a hard worker to earn some cash for the terrible decorations. When you finally notice the counter-intuitive button to change difficulty which tells you "easy" but hides secret that it's actually "normal" and the word "easy" means you can switch it to easy.. you feel like your punishment sentence was lowered yet it doesn't feel relaxing easy anyway.
Update: After finishing the game I learned the ranking was not made by mistake but intentionally. It's actually not only shooter game but with a puzzle mode on (no there are no modes to switch, I am just trying to describe the quality of the game). It's actually a puzzle, with some luck and randomnes complication, and you get three stars when you crack the puzzle and find the best possible way to clean the screen in as little moves as possible. If you are near that perfection, you get two stars, so that is why you normally get only one poor star. And know that you DO need to get them to perfection because otherwise you will not get enough money to win the game.
About the game being poorly wrapped: Unlike in other games of this type, here the story does not glue your efforts and you have to find out for yourself that you need to return to the shooting game and play and play and play like crazy to "make money" with which you can afford to buy another ugly kitchy element for the garden because they are so expensive you have to play a lot. So the story does not tell you "you need to do another mission" or something, instead it tells nothing. You stare at the screen and have to find out you simply need to click the weird arrow like button again and play many times until you can afford the next decoration.
What happens next is that suddenly at one unexpected moment you find out you have run out of levels. Out of knowhere without explanation you see the list of all the eighty levels and you realize you can replay them now. Without the story being finished in any way. There's again no explanation what happened, you find that for yourself. So to finish the game, you have to perfect your performance so that you get three or at least two stars in most levels. Or at least play and lose so many times that you will collect enough coins.
At the same time the replaying feels weird because not only you are replaying old levels to make up for what feels as your inability to make it right away, but whenever you click on one of the old levels, you get a disharmony sound like if you were clicking on something wrong. What are the authors of this game trying to communicate? That it's somehow wrong to replay the levels? Are they trying to say you should not squeeze the game for more fun but instead accept you lost and buy another one?? I don't know.
All the terrible fudge cake style, together with listening all the time the same three songs that are so sweet and manipulative, you are in danger to become one of those dumbhead hormone-controlled squirting girls yourself. While weirdly enough, at the same time you have deliver high performance results like if you were to be professional sportsman on steroids. What a weird combination. In the end you try to enjoy what you paid for and re-decorate the garden to your liking, but the options are so terrible in some cases and the pinky colors are so over-saturated that sometimes it tears your eyes apart.
This motive of the game was promising, technically the creators had all that was needed, but the creation itself is seriously awckward and with too many mistakes. Seems like a product stitched together in lot of rush, now being sold falsely as something it is not.
What captures your attention when you see this game? How beautiful it is! Guess what? You get to build and design your own garden from the three choices per category provided.
I don't really think this is one of those relaxing games, because it is... pretty hard. I never played this type of game before, but I picked it up to see if I can do it. Let's just say that if YOU can see patterns and like puzzle games: you will probably be a pro at this game.
For someone who just shoots stuff and depends on luck, well... you might eventually learn how to do it. If you really want to.
The story is pleasant and you want to help the people get through it. If you are in a mood, get it and enjoy it. The pictures are mostly self-explanatory and there is a tutorial within a game.
