While they were a bit eager to demonstrate their brand-new 3D environments (by forcing the player to repeatedly traverse large spaces), this is still a classic with a great blend of sci-fi and fantasy with a strong female protagonist. The series as a whole is one of my favorites in the point-and-click genre.

I absolutely love the story. I played this game as a kid, it had a polish version then. It's a shame that the polish version didn't make it to steam, since the physical version I have doesn't want to lounch on the newer operating systems.
Classic adventure/fantasy game. Female lead character, great plot and dialogue.
One of the best narrative driven games ever published, and one that really captures the spirit of being a 90s child
They don't make games like that anymore. Truly the longest journey that has some sort of irony to the name mixed with a captivating story and great humor. Every little detail in this game shows how much of a labor of love that was. Have you tried changing the volume in sound settings? Have you listened to April Dub in the Book of Secrets. What a banger!
Yes, the game did not age well and is very clunky by modern standards. It is also slower paced but in a way that you can just slow down and enjoy dialogues without trying to ADHD your way to instant gratification. Just sit down and enjoy this story. Don't forget to install TLJHD textures and use ScummVM to make the game more stable and playable. To my great surprise, this game is now one of my all time favorites.
Could have been good, but the endless dialogue drove me nuts! I like to perform actions in games, and solve puzzles, not go through endless pages of dialogue. Sorry, this is a No from me. Only lasted 30 minutes.
Great game. i did enjoy it as a child and now again (CDs dont work anymore). Tho, you really need to play it with mod "the longest journey HD" for greater scenes and background, also can say it was stable and crushed only once at the begining.
(the notmoded game crashes pretty often win10, pretty bad import)
The only thing i would realy complain is a table puzzle with crystals, that thing was nonsance and illogical in the year 2000 and they still didnt fix it! it has a good logic if you fallow it for all crystals and not exception to the top right and left buttom crystal, in those two crystal it doesnt much to the table symbol it stands on but for some freaky reason to the one facing it on the other side. total nonsence.
Ps: I know that duck. Bon voyage, ducky!
Was pretty good until I reached a known game breaking bug (crash in the police station) that prevented me from continuing and I did not feel like scouring the internet trying to fix broken software in my free time. Also the UI is pretty buggy. I know its old but if I pay money for a game I expect it to be in a playable state.
Fun story.
Played this as a kid and never forgot it. I never finished it but it's very interesting and trippy. It came out in some mid-2000s when best buy actually was the place to get pc games. Recommend for those ok with old graphics.
Excellent world-building that leaves you longing for more after journey's end
A great trip down memory lane - I still have the original box and CDs that I bought ages ago - but I have one HUGE warning: SAVE YOUR GAME OFTEN!
There are NO automatic saves, and two (or was it three?) times during my playthrough the game just randomly crashed, and I had to completely re-play HOURS of gameplay just to get back to where I was.
BE WARNED!
I give this game a rank B- (70-75%)
Nice game - try if you are interested

Take this review with a VERY important caveat: I did NOT finish this game at all, in fact I don't even think I went past half of it. The thing is, I used to love story driven adventure point and clicks, that is literally my generation right there. Unfortunately, I am not a teen anymore, I don't have all the time in the world, and this game has 2 major, HUGE flaws: first, it is poorly, poorly optimized/ported. Don't even look at my playtime: I played this game on the eternal ScummVM. If you launch it on Steam, you might bug your pc BIG TIME. It changed the windows font, it turned off my monitor, it cut my stream on OBS... bad bad bad. Beside that, it has all the old 3D ugliness you can imagine (original FF7 polygons style), the bad font that hurts your eyes, the lack of ease of play etc. A product of its age, for sure.
Note that this does not impact the quality of the 3D environments of the game: they are sumptuous, prerendered 3D scenes like this are just so good looking and immersive.
Second major flaw? the pace. It is funny to think nowadays people complain about boringly long, talkative, barely interactive games when that flaw has always been there. It just depends on the game! In 2000 there already was this game, which, despite its excellent perks, is a slug fest as they say. The character will take ages crossing every screen, every NPC has about 5 paragraphs of text on average to answer to EACH of your question, and even if the writing is good, witty and funny, most of it is often boring and does not make the story progress at all.
Despite all that? The reason why I still give this game a B- is because after the ~15 hours (?) I spent on it, I could definitely enjoy some of its parts while feeling there was an awesome story in there. This is the kind of game that would deserve a remake: the story is really good, very reminiscent of awesome stories we had in the late 90s, with games like Discworld (the influence of Pratchett in here is clear), Broken Sword, all the Lucas Arts like Grim Fandango, etc. The story here looks very promising...
...but there just is too much in the way for me to continue. The mentality of the late 90s (so sexist), that 18 years old main character who is so obnoxious and whiny (and I did not particularly enjoy her the voice over, which is sad because all the others did a tremendous work), the back and forth (30th time running in the same screen), and the continuous blablabla is sadly too much for me to spare more time in it.
Very sad, because I really wanted to know more about the story! I will try the sequels, but I mostly look forward to Funcom one day unlocking the budget and making a remake of this game, considered one of their masterpieces. In conclusion? This B- that I am giving is for an incomplete, 25 years late test - if you have more time and patience than me and finish it, you might increase this B- to an A for sure!
Hem is live on Hem & Watch
This is a classic that I've had the pleasure of playing over, and over again. It's that fun mix of urban sci-fi fantasy, tempered with attention to detail, amazing characters, good voice acting, and philosophical thought-provoking moments.
Does the graphics hold up? Mostly no, but you won't be disappointed by some of the beautiful landscapes that artists captured, and despite its wear, it's worth playing/watching at least once. :)
Beautiful in a retro and niche way, but totally aged and misguided. The dialogue here is stellar and it blows my mind how well written this game came be with it's characters before it's forced to be a basic adventure plot. By Chapter 4 I was miserable, running back and fourth and getting lost in my own head space, wondering why I was wasting my time on a game so full of busywork and filler content. It's a shame this is so old and poorly designed because it had such a charming lead and script. There's just...little reason to spend your time on this when better point and clicks exist and frankly...when better games exist as well.
