A charming little walking sim that tries to address philosophical approaches to life, death, and what might come after. The most common downsides to games like this are certainly present - too slow of a walking speed, no interactivity with the environment, dodgy voice acting. But the music is quite decent, the levels are well-laid out, and the visuals are excellent. I lingered in each of the environments, just soaking up the atmosphere. That's probably why my play time is around an hour and a half - if I hadn't peeked into every little nook and cranny it probably would have taken me only about an hour. But I picked this up on sale for less than a dollar, and it was definitely a dollar well spent.
👍👍👍
This wasn't a game at all- Art piece, walking simulator.
Really impressed by this game, definitely a walking simulator done well.
It has beautiful graphics with different environments and enjoyable fitting sound tracks to keep high the amusement along the journey. It also features a good voice acting so the story is presented in form of dialogs rather than just reading all the time. The story is some philosophical take on life and death, no need to spoiler about.
Worth the time.
Short philosophical walking simulator about death and what comes after.
Easy achievements, 2 endings.
7/10
I seem to have written a lot of reviews for "walking simulators" of late, so I'll try and keep this one brief.
Fantastic graphics. Wonderful "world" and generally decent character models. Marvellous music. Passable "story". No jump button (so you can't bunny-hop like a ♥♥♥♥-wit). Generally strong atmosphere, both aurally and visually. Definitely an interesting overall "tone". Two quite different and refreshingly worthwhile endings, with a generous final save allowing you to witness both without starting the game all over again (and nabbing you two of the game's three Achievements instantly).
Questionable voice acting, with sometimes dodgy recording and mixing. Terrible writing and dialogue. Lack of footstep sound effects, as well as a distinct lack of "head bob", lowering the level of immersion (you "float", essentially). Extremely linear, with little reason to stray from the main path (bar collectables, which are fairly meaningless). Some rather aggressive, and unnecessary, invisible walls. No puzzles. Only one walking speed (mostly not a problem, but doesn't exactly encourage exploration). A bit short for its own good (around an hour).
My biggest problem with this game, ultimately, was the fact that I frankly would have preferred to survey its wonders without the constant "justifications" of the narrated dialogues. I have as much love for dream-based ramblings as the next romantic, but there's a point where it all becomes a bit meaningless. Other games, such as The Old City: Leviathan, have handled these themes much better. To add insult to injury, the game often halts you from walking onwards until certain dialogues have been resolved; though you can, thankfully, use the space bar to speed-read your way through these without suffering through too much of the acting.
Not the best of walking sims out there, but far from the worst. Recommended, but only to those for whom occasionally awesome visuals are sufficient justification to play a game.
I liked the trip. Not the best, not the worst, but it kept my interest. Played it in one sitting; took a bit more than an hour. The graphics are 10/10. The game/walking simulator overall 7 or 8/10. Definitely worth what it cost.
It’s a very short walking simulator that makes no sense story-wise. The visuals are gorgeous and surreal and interesting to look at, but the walking speed drove me crazy and the dialogue makes very little sense to me. I picked this up very early in my gaming interests and never tried it until now, but by now I know that this is not the sort of game I’d ever pick up.
Not my cup of tea. I don't mind walking simulators as long as they're interesting. This was more tedious and boring. Sorry, not sorry.
Yes.
Caligo is a decent walking simulator with a deep and interesting story.it really is an excellent game indie.
