It's a cute game, and I want to be good so bad, but for $15? Hell no.
The combat feels annoyingly chance based, and it really doesn't feel that rewarding to hit anything or cast spells.
Not to mention, there's zero active playerbase, and the game is seemingly abandoned by the devs as well.
4/10.
I did not like it much, it's not very intuitive. Did not understand what to do at all. But it was fun for the first 30 minutes with friend, after doing nonsence within that time we both got bored. It might be interesting for someone for a few hrs but after all you get bored on top there are no players in multiplayer, I mean no wonders game is 5 years old.
I'm not going to refund since it's just few dollars and overall the game works as it should I guess at least I did not spot any glitches. Good luck, developer
The game looks fun, however, I cant play it with index controllers. The rotation is not correct which makes it difficult to aim and throw. The game says it has index support but I think that just means the headset.
I think many of the negative reviews are older.
As the game currently stands (Jan 2020) its quite nice, nice graphics, nice gameplay.
Got it with a 90% discount at the winter sale for just 1.5 euros and I think it was an excellent deal.
8/10
Edit
The bug is now gone and I can now play the game
The AI has a few bugs though with throwing magic when its hugging the wall
Support your local 'Gesture Mechanic' games. Till we at least get a remake of Dungeon Master and Black & White.
Slick and speedy. Clear your playing area, cos you will 'need' to physically sidestep and dodge, to win... at least on single player. I haven't tried Multi, but apparently, that's where it's at.
There was a slight prolem with the 'Slow' spell, when I played, but hopefully fixed soon (21/02/2018)
One of the better magic-based VR games even in Early Access. The art style really shines with the tone of the whole game where it's toony and fun. It doesn't take anything away from the epic feel of fighting the bosses as well because the intensity it throws at you is what makes it epic.
The strictness of spell-casting, imo, is a plus. It really does feel like you have to cast the spell correctly just like enunciating "Wingardian Leviosa" in the right way. However, if you feel the casting is too strict, you can recalibrate movements for those spells and make it easier in the long run.
The only thing that bugs me is that multiplayer is non-existant unless you have a friend who also plays VR and this game.
One more thing: the direction you throw the fireballs feels awkward. I'll throw my hand forward, but it'll go down and bounce backwards. Maybe fixing the smoothness of throwing fireballs will help.
Sorry this game don't even launch with compatibility mode ( windows 7 ) to correct the mismatched camera view at start menu , and nothing responds , the " displayed button" text says to click it to access menu but the only thing it does is to return to Oculus menu , neither other button do nothing at all.
At start i just stay with a camera view underground and i can' t interact with nothing .
I wll wait for a new patch ( 15 days ) to try to correct this , or ask a refund .
If things will evolve , i return here to tell you what is happening.
EDIT :
Ok as promised , things had evlved and for the better !
The staff had fixed this very quickly :)
So here come the real advice :) :
So i tried all the tutorials first , graphically the game very neat , i love the cartoon style it have, and the gameplay is very impressive !
Unlike other magic games, this one add a big bunch of variety to the gameplay like bouncing fireballs, or time slowing :)
In this alpha version , there is no noticeable bugs that impact gameplay , all is fluid like a charm , and the immersion is perfect !
The familiar is so cute , i very love it !
As i played i did'nt found any other player unfortunately , but i hope i will find someone another time :)
Hey devs , will you add a solo campaign one day , the atmosphere of the game fits very well for this !
This game is awesome! I,ve been looking forward to this game and got it when it came out. I think having a deflect spell would be nice, but it would have to cost more mana then the shield. Also for a single player, I was thinking of kind of like where you go to a place like hogwarts, and the farther you get, the more spells you can learn, and you can customize your spell loadout. Also whenever you battle an enemy, you can do that 3D pong type battle, or try new things too.
It's a fun game but personally after some time the PVP gets repetitive and boring. Since this is early acess I would reccomend the developers to add more than just the standard 1v1 duel in PVP, either add some mini games PVP (for example hitting Npcs for points where you can interfere with the other players fireballs/iceballs etc), or a more complex PVP where each player has its own base and can upgrade it with mana over time and upgrade it during the duel (or just summon more dragons to help or even fire, frost, wind and earth elementals).
Finally the boss offline mode could be turned into a Co-Op where each class could provide different buffs to each other (wind could give some speed to the fireballs for example) or a debuff to the boss (frost could slow, freeze the boss for a few seconds for example).
Overall I think the game has potential but needs some polish and more content, since like i said before, it turns very repetitive and makes the player bored quickly.
6.5/10 (If you are considering buying this read the whole review I'm a strict grader don't be fooled by numbers.)
OK game, but very few people online to play with. Fighting the AI get old very fast. Combat is a little slow paced. Lacks polish compared to for example "The Unspoken".
Could have been a fun party game with the VR player dueling against a PC player, but that’s not currently possible, Giving it tumbs up (its not a bad game), but will uninstall it.
i was surprised by how much fun i had playing this. gameplay is energetic and multiplayer works well although it needs voice interaction ( or something pre duel to decide venue etc)
What do I think about inVokeR?
I would have to say that invoker is the most polished game I have played so far for my HTC Vive, and also One of if not the most fun game I have played. The spell casting is extreamly easy to use but can be hard to master. For example I am able to split my fireball in 2 by casting the split spell, and I am able to make my fire balls heat seaking with the bolt spell. When I save up the mana to use the 2 spells together I can create 2 very hard to dodge fire balls, but if my opponent is good enough they can cast a slow time spell to stop them and dodge. This kind of gameplay creates really intense but fun battles that are good for all types of players.
PROS:
-Finding matches is quick and they let you practice on targets while you wait
-The game looks super nice, and all animations are extreamly polished
-the combat is super smoth to play, Spells have combinations that are fun to experiment with, and it takes a fair amount of skill to beat an opponent that knows what their doing
-There is a very good tutorial on what every thing does that is also optinal for you to do
-There are AI opponents that you can learn against
-There is a boss mode where you fight a large boss (shown in video)
-4 Different types of wizards to pick from and can be swapped before every match
CONS
-only a couple modes (but the game came out 2 days ago as of writing this and is in early access)
-no way to find opponents of equal skill (as of right now)
-finding an opponent can be a few minuts if playing at a bad time (early on weekdays)
So if your on the edge about getting this game for your Vr headset I would highly suggest that you pick it up, (Its only 15 bucks, less if got on sale, and most people buy games for 60)
fun mage themed multiplayer experience. The game is polished for an early release (I only ran into a single minor bug so far)
The gameplay design is simple yet fun. I feel like I got a good exercise just from dodging magic bolts. I can see myself playing this game regularly as the content grows.
Rynn is super duper cute!
This is a cool 1v1 mage dueling game.
You select the type of elemental mage you want to be, each having similar base spells, but different ultimates. For example, who wouldn't want to toss giant boulders at the enemy as the earth mage?
The different play modes include PvP, against AI mages, a training ground, or a boss mode.
You weave spells in the air using the controller and dodge around the enemy's spells by moving out of the way, but be aware that a smart bounce off the wall might take you without you expecting it. The first one to get three hits in wins the round.
Where do I start. I jumped into a multiplayer match and saw someone. I dabbed and he dabbed back. Then we played a game. I won. After the game the person gave me a hug. It felt so real. Then we played another game. That person won. Then the moment came that was better than making that person dab. We played patty cake. I relized that I spend my money well. If only there was 3+ people, then we could play ring around the rosie.
This was the game I didn't know I needed. Most VR games don't offer a multiplayer that runs as smooth as this. You have a basic ranged attack that consumes no mana. From there you have 5 spells available to you. Trust me, 5 spells may seem small but combine it with tactics and timing, and you got yourself a winner. Most of the spells complement your basic attack changing it into an entirely different projectile. IHIGHLY RECOMMEND THE GAME.
Great game!
The spellcasting is just challenging enough, and when combined with the dodging aspect, this game offers a good workout for both the mind and the body.
Super polished all the way through.
Multiplayer was a blast. I found a game in about 10 seconds max. I won two, they won one. We hugged, bowed and shook afterwards.
The game has a really cool vibe, nice polished graphics and effects, pvp is smooth and feels balanced and fun, with lots of room for improvements in future updates.
Have to admit that casting spells with gestures in VR feels good, definitely recommended!
This is awesome!
for now i give it 9/10
It would be just awesome like 2v2 even in this play-scale.
may-be something like 3-5 lives per round.
and may-be some spell for steal life, in this case 5-7 lives.
anyway this game is awesome fitness game :)
