Exception is a game about AI programming. During the game, the player assists the units to defeat their enemies in the virtual world. However, the player needs to control the units by programming instead of controlling them directly.
This is a challenging single-player game. In each level, the player needs to think about the strategy and program the units accordingly. The player needs to program different types of units to beat the level.
In a virtual world where everything operates steadily under an omnipotent system, you will play the role of an operator named 159, who oversees and maintains the system.
Nevertheless, there is no perfect system. You find an exception in the program one day. What is stranger is that the program made a request…
You will discover the secret underneath this cyber world.
“Exception” implemented a simple and unique graphical programming language for the game AI specifically.
This programming language is very simple to use, and anyone can easily get started with a little patience.
When you have finished the program for your units, they will fight automatically according to your instructions.
We can no longer intervene in the units once the battle begins, you need to restart the level if you want to modify the program.
Of course, constantly debugging the program is inevitable, and victory is born from failures!

You know what, I almost completed the game. Did 26 out of 30 levels or so. Few levels I've beaten with RNG on my side and it's just that RNG that doesn't allow me to give good recommendation for a programming game. With the same set of instructions, my unit sometimes gets the shot off correctly and after restart it just doesn't. And I just don't want to spend time working on second phase of mission if I have to dice-roll for passing the first phase.
Limited solutions for the puzzles.
very good game which requires your logical thinking skills and programming skills. Kinda addicted sometimes.
As someone with programming experience the visual programming was slow and tedious, the problems werent interesting, the solutions not statisfying and the narrative didnt hook me.
Softcore programming puzzles. Probably a great way to learn.
This game could act as an introduction to programming. You basically program robots (the exceptions) to complete various tasks (usually combat related) by drag and dropping commands in a command line like interface. There isn't much story, and the graphics are alright, but the game has the basics down and is pretty fun. Some of the puzzles are pretty clever. Unfortunately, you do eventually hit a puzzle that will not make sense to you or you just aren't sure what it wants you to do. The game is not very good at helping you out in those situations and that is about when you'll stop playing. But, for the price, still a fun little game.
If you're looking for a about writing programs I'd recommend "Human Resource Machine" or "Seven Billion Humans" over this. A lot of the time random events will cause unexpected results. (Often units travelling to the same point bumping into each other. / Things that look symmetrical don't act in the same way.) Adding in the time limit to solve each puzzle. All up making it feel like you're trying to guess the author's solution instead of coming up with your own.
Humorous, creative, but hard, so hard for me.
I got stuck at level 10, anybody has a solution?
First, I want to say, kudos to the devs (or whomever is responsible) for the Wuhon charity thing. Good on you.
That out of the way... This game has a price point of $4. I'm glad I waited for it to be on sale.
I'm not going to nit pick this much further than that. If you are into the programming type games and are desperate for a new one, this is okay. In my opinion it is over simplified, over dumbed down, the UI is clunky and is missing basic tools like cut and past and clear program and frankly the levels are a bit too much "guess what the author was thinking" for this sort of game. 'Nuf said. Get it while or when it's on sale.
But, as always, I look at that one line and how it is worded. "Do you recommend this game?"
...*sigh*
No. Sorry.
seems cool, untill you realize its a mobile game. seems to just be never ending levels, which later levels don't seem to be well tested and you need random chance to succeed
Fun little puzzle game, introducing you easily into simple programming concepts.
Pretty good logic game. I've played better, but if you like programming, you will like this one.
I know some people have said this game is not like computer programming but I have to disagree. The writing of steps for your robots to take with conditional reasons for carrying them out is very much the concept of programming to me. Though it is a GUI and not a text interface it is a fun and easy way to mimic the concepts in coding. I very much enjoy this game with the challenging puzzles you have to solve.
This is surprisingly fun and polished!
It starts easy at first but wait until you get to Level 14. Can strongly recommend if you like programming/scripting. For this price it's a steal.
Exceptionaly exceptional except some exceptions (8/10)
Design seems simple but it's nice. Creating orders seems difficult but it's good to go ...except the cases you need to be very creative or (if you're lazy like me) there is link to solutions in options.
Maybe it could use few extra unit focused orders like follow ally or maintain certain distance to ally/enemy but in general it's nice game and it's definetly worth it for those few bucks
Great game. If you like logic puzzles, you'll like Exception.
I would only caveat this by saying that it ramps-up very slowly... too slowly, in my opinion. There are so few available commands during the first couple hours of gameplay that you could easily solve the puzzles through blind trial-and-error.
It gets much more enjoyable once you start solving the harder puzzles later in the game.
I acutally really enjoy this game but I cant get past a level because the timer is bugged. Level 9 only gives me 1 minute while it gives other people 1 minute 30.
Unless this can be fixed il have to refund it :c
Something major lost in translation. I play a LOT of programming games, I enjoy them quite a bit. This one never clicked with me.
This is a programming puzzle game.
If you like logic puzzles and are familiar with computer programming concepts (I'm a C++/Fortran dude). Or maybe you have played robot board games, this might be up your alley. Think of it as brain food using a whole different part of your brain than say killing animals for survival games or fighting off hordes of zombies.
I'm taking it a level a day - and learning a whole new programming language that could be multi-use, say, for job gamification applications.
Try to solve every problem without using Youtube. Although, in my mind, it's okay to later look at how other people solved the same problem and maybe find more efficient ways of programming your robots.
Each level brings in new concepts on how to solve problems. Some of it can really make the brain hurt. The programming tools are okay - it would be nice to have the ability to rewind during test runs but you can slow it down and pause to see where your program is doing the wrong thing.
The storyline is a typical video game story - each level tells you what the mission is and gives hints on how to solve it. I'd really recommend reading the "user's manual" which adds new sections on most levels.
Oh yeah, the storyline - you are fighting against some all-powerful computer corporations or something ... ok got it?
I like it a lot. It's similar to Gladiabots, but the level design creates unique puzzles that gets you hooked.
