It's espionage, heavy artillery, offensives, counter offensives and intelligence – all with maximum consequences.
At its core, M.A.X. is about resource-gathering, building, and tactical combat. The game offers more than 50 land, sea, and air units, most of which can be upgraded to improve their armor, speed, and range. You can play as one of eight different factions with different advantages for each one.

I don't have anything much to say that hasn't been said before. This game is a hidden gem, a masterpiece, there is no other strategy game with mechanics like this. Sometimes it feels more like chess than anything else.
Just wanted to add, a guy on the internet fixed all well known bugs, everything is well documented on his website (plus a nice piece of history of the game development), you can play 4-players up to turn 250+ witouth any issues. The fixed version requires the game original files, and the instalation process is straightforward. I've tested myself and it works flawlessly, I don't have that many hours in this game because I play the patched version.

Old School gaming at its best with this turned based or real time strategy game whichever you prefer. This is a solid strategy game with very interesting gaming mechanics, however only minor complaint is the older code is prone to game crashes as you get further in a larger map with many turns. If someone would spend a little more time perfecting the older code and contributing to its stability in higher end, and I think this game would be even better. Still a solid game and worth it for some memories.
Loved this game for a long time
Awesome game play for my tastes. The game is unstable. I've played a number of times until I log on and cannot play. I've had to uninstall and reinstall losing all my work. It's a great game but program is bad. It's inexpensive but you can get a cup of coffee instead.
does not work 100% on 11 crashes out
Maybe! I recall playing this when it came out into the market, and been so much fun. Finally after all these years, I am able to get M.A.X. again. Although I do see bugs. After about so many turns, the A.I. clock will turn red, and not do anything. I have to exit windows by Alt-tab, and exit the game. I feel the design wasn't to go past 150 turns, then things start to happen. Notice when moving map with mouse, the map will begin to warp, until I stop moving at a location. As if my graphics card, ram can not handle the stress. And most of the time I am not able to play at all. I get main screen, and not able to select anything. I have a 3060ti, 64gb Ram, AMD Ryzen 5750x (16 core) CPU. Wish their was a good fix (update, patch), this game can be worth it, but can be buggy holding it back. This Strategy game will do awesome in the market if the bugs were fixed. Need more maps.
M.A.X was my first turn-based RTS game that I played as a child with my father, who probably played the game with his father when he was a child.
It hasn't lost its old charm yet, but despite the 1.04 patch it's still just as buggy as it was back then.
I'm currently on round 104 with my custom game and I can restart it every 2 rounds because it crashes or hangs. I think it's also due to the AI, so it shouldn't be a problem for hotseat game
