Released in 2017!... It's janky - not a great VR implementation, lacking graphic options, glitchy, but can still be a lot fun if you immerse yourself in it. It has a long campaign about 80 hours... not many VR titles can say the same, and a huge world which also most vr titles can't say the same. The world has lots of detail. Definitely don't pay $80!.. It should be like $20 or they should be free as part of another fallout bundle or something. Have patience and save your game a lot. Would be nice for Bethesda to continue supporting vr as they do have something here.
With mods it's incredible 9/10
This would be more fun if the game wouldn't crash randomly during every session. Makes playing in Survival mode even more frustrating than it needs to be.
I have played this and other than the occasional crash it has been pretty fun. I am still getting used to some of the controls and quests but enjoying it so far.
Like everything Bethesta, this game is absolutely sucks vanilla.
Modding is what makes it good but that is very hit and miss.
I never got it to work as wabbajack doesnt seem to find the sript extender and just shuts the game down right away. I do not recommend this purchase for even 1 dollar since it hasn't given me a dollars worth of gameplay.
I'm hopefully getting this refunded but just... wow. The Skyrim port is more enjoyable out of the box than this. At least that port is playable. If it's on sale, and you don't mind having to mod the game then I guess it's worth a try. I just don't really have the time to do all that with games anymore, so its nice to have a game or two that "Just works" sadly, this one ain't it, Chief.
if you want to play this game with psvr2.. good luck I couldn't get the VR controllers to work.. and it apparently it has no game pad support.
Its fallout 4. They've enabled steam vr to try and work with it. Thanks for the first steps Bethesda, lets let the modders take it from here... In base form, Its passable as a way to play fallout 4 if you like the feeling of subconsciously ripping hair out of your head from in between vr headset straps...
But... With a few proper mods, minor adjustments, and maybe an extra hour and a half to three, you'll be playing what is very close to a fairly good quality massive scale open world with physics for weapons and characters.
Also, you didnt hear this from me, but if you have DLC with the base version, you can drop it in same spot here (The ground will be invisible, its freaking terrifying to spawn into the game with invisible floor.) And there is a mod that even fixes the invisible ground textures.
tldr;
***WITH THE RIGHT MODS*** and a couple hours of adjusting (according to guides that are available)
This is the ONLY way to play Fallout 4, hands down!
As a huge fan of Fallout, I knew when I got a new PC to try Fallout 4 VR. I understand that it is not the best VR port of a game but honestly, it's enough. Because I am such a huge fan, I just couldn't resist, the amount of fun I'm having with Fallout 4 VR is unmatched compared to most VR titles I have played, even though it is kind of a lazy port. Hey, it just works. Pick this game up if it's on sale because I don't really think the full price is worth it unless you are a die hard Fallout fan.
Absolute garbage. I shouldn't have to spend hours trying to apply mods just to make this POS run somewhere approaching a decent frame rate. Shame on Bethesda for having the bare faced cheek to release a title in this unfinished state. Some developers release software and actually follow up with fixes and improvements but Bethesda? nah, they got their money.
absolute mess of a vr game.
im rather experienced with vr as ive had a couple different headsets for the better part of a decade.
how they managed to release such a broken uncomfortable mess and trick people into buying it is impressive.
you take a bad game and port it to vr badly, and would you look at that? its bad. whoop-de-doo
No Stop it Todd you short bastard
crashes frequently and runs terribly. amazing game but please, just play it normally.
I absolutely llove this game, i have 4050 graphics, i7, 16gb ram, i run this game vanilla just perfect :) i tried gingas mod overhaul but it ruined my pc so i had to factory reset my pc 5x! it works again thankfully now i just play vanilla and have barely any issues, sometimes it lags a bit bc i use air link on my quest 2
It's very fun, but I had to figure out how to stop the weird teleporting movements. (Settings>>VR>>Movement)
Free world to explore, not locked into quests, adjustable difficulty and violence level. Great for beginners (Says 58 yr old grandmother) Been playing since fallout Vegas
I modded the crap out of the game. It was fun, but I didn't get hooked due to the headache I had from managing all my mods.
i cant even bring myself to keep playing this game.
Genuinely one of the worst VR ports iv'e ever seen, joystick controls were terrible, i couldn't stop sprinting, and no way to change controller bindings from inside the game.
save your money and don't buy this
This is the laziest VR port I've every seen. you have absolutely 0# extra interaction with the world around you, you cant manually reload your weapons, and you cant even aim a rifle with both hands which makes using long guns accurately extremely difficult. They basically made a VR game that doesn't have any of the the things that make a VR game fun. then on top of that they have the audacity to charge 60 dollars for something that should of been a free addition. they abandon this game shortly after launch about 7 years ago so save your money or buy something like "Into the Radius" or "Half Life Alyx"
As someone who has put in over 500 hrs into the VR version alone, I can say I recommend this game lol
The recommendation did come with a few warnings. Yes, the base download is not what it should be. Missing DLC, fixes, hands, etc etc. So here's where you can throw your hands up and give up like a child, OR put the effort in to mod it and enjoy one of the best VR experiences you can find!!! S#!T YOU NOT!!! I've been playing VR for over 7 years now, this is what your want to play.
I'm on my 3rd play through, this time with the Definitive Fallout 4 VR Overhaul Collection 18+ (https://next.nexusmods.com/fallout4/collections/qvmo0b). FOLLOW THE INSTRUCTIONS CAREFULLY and look at how to download the DLC through Steam CLI, and I've had success a few times now with it. I've used other collections and modded my own way and enjoyed it each time. Read, seek help if needed, but it works! Your also need a pretty beefy PC to get the best experience, but a mid range PC should work fine on lower settings. I'm getting 80-90 fps on my Quest 3 over Virtual Desktop with a i7 13k, 32GB, SSD, 4070 TI Super... But had pretty good fps with a 3070 and i5 11th gen as well.
Using FRIK for full body is awesome! Virtual Chems, new weapons, holsters, Sim Settlements 2, new missions, new NPCs, yada yada GET THIS GAME AND MAKE IT WORK!!! LOL You'll be glad you did.
one of my faverets, def a great game!
Given it's a port, it's about what you can expect. Basically feels like a good VR mod for FO4. Has some decent mods over on Nexus if you can get them working. Gunplay feels amazing, but one handing a minigun is a bit silly (in a janky fun way still lol) but I'm sticking to pistols since they feel the most immersive. Get it on sale, if you like FO4 and like shooting stuff in VR, you'll like this game. If you're looking for a highly immersive VR game alone, maybe give this a pass.
gotta mod to acutally have a fun experience
This is awful id rather toaster bath than play this game ever again
Wow, just wow. Fallout 4 VR is intense. Very different than 3rd person view or FP as far as that goes. At some point I'll probably have a heart attack. But it will be well worth it. :)
It's pretty rough, not worth it don't buy this for $60 that's nuts.
for only 89.95NZD, severe framerate-induced motion sickness!
is good
game doesnt work right
It's a lazy VR port, but currently there are no alternatives for big-scale open world role playing shooter in VR, so I can't play anything else. Play with mods if you can
Pros:
You are definitely in the world of Fallout and it looks great and that is as far as the Pros go for my review.
Cons:
The movement in the world is HORRIBLE! What were you think Bethesda?! You do not move smoothly, meaning you do not walk. Movement is dictated by a point can click and you are teleported a short distance away.
There is no interaction with the world. Point and objects are zoomed to inventory.
This game isn't playable out of the box. You have to fix it yourself by modding, and even then its not a good VR experience. Just play the flat version.
Even with the free unpaid labor of the amazing modding community, this game is still just unplayable. Just find something else.
This is a very bare-bones, lazy port with a plethora of major bugs and terrible optimization. The only reason I'm still playing it is because modders have released fixes that Bethesda never cared enough to...as usual. Even then, modding this mess requires a theoretical degree in physics.
Save your money for a better VR game.
Lovely : )
It's a pretty bad VR port, the gameplay does not feel good at all. You cannot properly enter the character name due to the virtual keyboard being all buggy.
game is unplayable unless you have multiple mods running to help it. shouldnt even be able to purchase this game. This is why i spend most of my money on PSVR 2 games on my PS5. All the games work and sometimes one may come out that needs a patch and will get one within a week or so but Sony wouldnt allow someone to potential completely waste $60 buying a piece of garbage game like that is just completly unplayable. im hoping steam refunds me my money after only 45 min playing and 35 min of that was looking into the mods i need to get it to work or messing with the setting to try and make it playable. Once modded i cant refund so im not taking the chances. im also running on Ryzen 7 7700x 16 core PC which had no problem running Half-Life Alyx on the highest graphics fidelity.
I have only just started Fallout 4 VR but I like it a lot more than Skyrim VR, which surprised me because most people say the opposite. Something about aiming a Bethesda janky pistol using my actual body motions instead of just with a controller is so fun. I have this thing synced to my KatVR omnimill, too, and it picks up my movement well. FO4 VR also seems to just run smoother than Skyrim VR. If you love VR and love Fallout, this game is an easy recommendation, especially because it often goes on sale for like $8 with all DLCs.
locked door no problem just walk through
sitting here clicking to install mods contemplating life, trying to get this game into a state of playable on the INDEX. the degree you gotta get to do this is unreal, the game DOES NOT function without mods on INDEX.
i got a couple more hours of mindless clicking just in hopes that ill get to play my (still $70) game on my ($1700) VR Headset..
i understand the game is old... but they absolutely phoned this in and modders carry this title.
DO NOT BUY UNLESS YOU WANT SECONDARY EDUCATION IN MODDING AND HAVE TONS OF SPACE AND TIME.
This game requires about 12 mods to feel good, but once it's been modded this feels amazing. 6/10 game (It's Fallout 4, so that adds a lot to the game), but 2/10 as a VR game. Only buy if you are both capable of modding this game with Vortex and if you're a big Fallout fan
Once you get your controllers to work and the DLC from fallout 4 installed, as well as the mods to get them all working, this is quite an enjoyable way to play the game.
crashes a lot
Mods are necessary. With that said, it's super easy to mod this game. So please don't let that stop you from trying this out if you're interested. There's tons of lists of recommended mods that make this such an incredible experience. I recently got a Quest 3 and am going to try out this nonsense with it
With Mods it is a classic
is goood
get a good gpu it works. also get a quest 3 to use with it for better resolution
I got this game because I had just gotten a VR headset and I love Fallout 4.
I will put it simply, I did not enjoy it.
The controls felt janky and awkward. Object interaction and fighting are difficult and don't always work. There was hardly any effort put into adjusting the settings from the original game to make it feel immersive for a VR experience. Height adjustment, body, hands, and shadow? Nonexistent. Overall graphics? Completely lacking. It felt like they took the original game, put the bare amount of effort into making it compatible with a headset set, and called it a day. Even worse than this the quality of the graphics looks substantially worse than the original game so that 100% takes you out of it too.
I am aware that there are mods that make the experience better but if I'm being completely honest I'm not interested in troubleshooting mods until it works for me and nor should I be expected to.
For a frame of reference, I got this when it was on sale for $15 and still returned it. Over $50 for this at regular price is just embarrassing.
so far its cool. fallout 4 is one of my favorite rpg worlds BUT im new to pc vr and this isnt a very good vr port.but if you use only pistols itll feel more imersive because there isnt two haded ineractions without mods and i dont know how to do those yet. but being there and seeing everything like im there is really awesome. 4\5stars
This is a waste of your time, do not buy. does not include: world physics, world interactability, height adjustment, or anything that makes it feel like a vr game, the dialogue menu sucks, this game should quite frankly be removed from the steam store. It feels foundationally broken. I love bethesda games, but this is piss poor. If it ever receives an official update then maybe but as is it is not the vr experience you are looking for. In order to change some settings you need a different 8$ tool. Get it together Bethesda. I am refunding.
