The perfect game for SwordArtOnline lovers or any person that likes anime theme game, a very good story and gameplay with a lot of stuff to do on it and a large world to explore. Not that popular it self but one of the bests that ik.
Sword Art Online accounts the most for my early ages, let me know the beauty of true-friendly cooperation assistance, and many meanings of being a positive human and then dare to make friends as preference until now. Tho this game may not meet the same level of height as the pretty perfect anime series of SAO, it is not bad, but worthy to try this or relevant potential expansion of storylines of different interesting characters of details that not mentioned in such original anime episodes and other programs, maybe kinda like light novel with RPG action elements if you do not hate this rpg type game

Sword Art Online: Hollow Realization is great for fans of the popular anime series. While it may not break new ground in terms of gameplay mechanics, it delivers exactly what fans crave: a deep dive into the world of Aincrad with familiar faces, exciting combat, and plenty of fan service.

loved this game when i played it on ps4. however on pc it is just too buggy. half the screen is cut off so you cant even find the save button because you cant see it. took me well over 30 mins to get the controller to start working. just bad experience all around.

6/10. I will go into further detail but basically I really enjoy it and will keep playing (I have only completed 1st of 4 areas and played some "multiplayer" (unlocks after 1st area and allowed power-leveling))
I was running a AMD Ryzen 5 1600 CPU, Nvidia GTX 1080, SATA III SSD, Endeavor OS (Arch Linux Based)
Below are my opinions, you may think differently on them being good or bad. For backstory, I gave SAO 9/10 (recently downgraded to 8/10) and SAO2 9/10 (currently rewatching)
tl;dr:
Solo game where you have [NPC] friends, some of the 5/10 (or 6/10) parts of SAO, some [gamebreaking] bugs. You grind like an MMORPG and progress with your [NPC] friends and help an NPC with the main quest line
Major Con:
-YOU ARE KIRITO!!!!!!!!!
Cons:
-Varyingly different story to canon with video game specific characters from past games, and canon characters completely different than actual story.
-My favorite weapon (scimitar) I think is bugged so have to reset often, stopped using once hit lvl 23 and did a ~1 hour grind to lvl 35, I miss my scimitar!
-Large focus on the parts I don't care about in SAO (the Kirito Harem)
-Did I mention you are Kirito? Because yeah, you are Kirito.
-Story is... mostly uninteresting (like I said I'm only 25% done with areas)
-Story cutscenes felt more so annoying for me (not bad but)
-The dating/"friendship" intimacy thing is annoying
-The english is often bad
-subtitles are english only
-Klein complains about our age-gap (because we have to be Kirito...)
Neutrals:
-multiplayer is dead
-single continuous auto save (you can't manually save and can only log out, continue, or new game)
-You get used to being Kirito
-voices are japanese only
-Outfit choices feel... well... I just wear the wedding dress
Pros:
-You get to date Klein+ (and hold his hands, and bride carry him (Klein is ~8 months younger than me IRL))
-The combat system is honestly really cool and unique to me. You get to command 3 (7 in solo multiplayer) allies to dodge, attack, heal, pull agro, et cetera.
-You make 64+ friends (yes they are NPCs or NPC NPCs, but they are my besties :<)
-You can make your own character (you are still Kirito Q_Q) which is really nice
-You can change your character design at any point (I never have and might never since I really like the recreation of myself (with darker/grey like skin)
-multiple weapon choices that change combat style
-can do different special stuff, and set team up based on their special stuff for healing, buffing, attacking, et cetera
-I think the game looks pretty nice
-various quests/events/bosses
I paid <$10 for this, I wouldn't have paid more prior, but if I knew how in to it I would get, I see even $20 potentially being worth it even though NO WHERE close as good as something like Hi-Fi Rush (which I didn't get until had nice discount), NO WHERE CLOSE.

Finished this game a while ago and noticed i have not reviewed it so here we go :
The game is great. I love the skill mechanics and everything else about this game, game takes place after the whole aincrad arc from the anime, which takes a different route than the anime after that. the story is not that bad honestly, some dungeons were a bit weird to navigate, so had to look up some gameplay for that hah. the whole waifu point system isn't my thing honestly because it was annoying to do.
oh and the from what i remember the dlc was way too grindy so get ready for that (you unlock it after you finish the base game)
small spoiler about what comes after you finish the entire dlc.
after you finish the entire game and beat the dlc there is one more thing to do, and that's the 1000 floor dungeon , each floor basically takes like 5-10 mins to complete. I did not really like this dungeon mainly because each floor is basically the same. you just repeat each floor 1000 times till you finish the dungeon, what's so fun about that lmao
overall, the game is solid, for sure get it on a sale if it has one. full price isn't that worth it since the game is like 8 years old.
I definitely recommend the story, but the rendering of graphics is too much and heavy.
I used the high settings for this game at the start, and it felt like I'm playing a low-quality-made game from the start of the game.
TL;DR: Playing this game at the highest of the graphics settings as default would give you the quality of i.e. Genshin Impact of it's lowest graphics settings. What's more, for a 50GB game, the NPCs barely has any things to talk to, and they're not even fluent. Not one of them... and the tutorials sucks at the start of the game. What do you mean by staggering? I've been staggering the boar and the tutorial won't end until I get to have a 100-combo. It's definitely not friendly for beginners, you must have the time to actually "find ways" how to play this. Oh, btw. You need to idiotically click your right-click mouse just to move your 3D view but in reversed... this game is clunky and annoying...

i loved it when it released but after a few years now it gets to the bandai loading screen and crashes back to steam.

After defeating the director of Sword Art Online, the guy who made a game so addicting to young nerds that they'd pass days on end, wired to a VR, only to realize he trapped them inside in a death game where they fight to survive... Things seem to have become easier for our nerdy protagonists, until they meet Premiere.
Sword Art Online Hollow Realization takes place in that same universe, where VR has become so mundane that it's become a cyberpunk kind of escape from reality. The gang is back, and this time they have found a glitch in the system of this new VR experience called Sword Art Origins. At 12 hours, I feel like I still haven't even touched the base of this game.
SAO: Hollow Realization is a third person RPG that sees you retake the role of Kirito, a nerd who's whole purpose in life is to grind in videogames, so kind of like all of us. It's an open world RPG where you're the leader, and you do whatever you please. Graphic design is topnotch, even better than the later Sword Art Online games. This game looks like it's going to take ages to finish but it's worth it. You take a team of four into the fields outside of the city (the main hub area, as in all SOA games that's how things are). The monsters respawn almost instantly, so only grind when necessary! Also do not report in gather missions, or else you'd be missing a lot of weapon upgrades.
And now, why I love this game so much: THE ROMANCE OPTION. Your main friends from the other SAO will be here, and in this game you can just tell them how pretty they look, and take them into bed lol (I guess these nerds are all sweaty for some online romance that they'd go through with it regardless of gender). At first, the romance system will not be intuitive, but here's a run down on how to take anybody you fancy to your chambers in the Inn. Step 1: Take a stroll with them in town. Step 2: Stop whenever there's a heart icon on top of them to initiate a romance convo. Step 3: In the romance convo, you'd want to close in while nodding your head in agreement or shaking your head (you have to keep reading what they're saying lol) and accept prompts that will take your relationship to the next level, be mindful, if you close in too much with not enough romance points, the conversation ends and you get nothing! Keep doing that until the icon on top of the character becomes a double heart, that's when you shoot your shot. Step 4: Initiate a romance convo with double hearts, do the above steps. Step 5: Go with them to the Inn, hold their hands and then carry them into bed. Step 6: Enjoy lol
There are A TON of other gameplay mechanics; like Sword Chain, EX skills, Skill Alliance... I could go on forever, thing is the game throws them at you, and expects you to... Not even do them lol, because trust me, you can literally just swoop through an entire area with only your sword's attack and nothing else. Also at first, I thought I could control my party members, but you can't: they do whatever they want, their sole use is to revive you when you're down (and to share your bed when you're in town of course lol). You can only equip them by giving them items once their affinity is high enough (again, you'll need to romance them for that! The entire game revolves around the romance mechanic, that's why I felt like I should explain it). Like, you want to enhance an item? Romance. You want to buff your teammates? Romance. You want your Sword Chains to be more efficient? ROMANCE. You want some good loot? ROMANCE AGAIN! The entire gameplay is based on that one mechanic, and it's amazing for the most part.
However, the game's sidequests are really lame... I had to entirely give up the Quest Board at some point and just do the main mission (and you could go the entire game without ever looking at the Quest board). Let me explain this one bit; Side Quests (apart from companion sidequests that boost affinity and reveal more of their story) give absolutely nothing in return, in fact they are disadvantageous, as some fetch quests will cancel your ability to enhance your weapons since you're going to give away precious materials that are best used to forge a better set of armor. They offer a sorry lame amount of EXP and a few coins that you'd be getting anyways while hunting outside of town.
All in all, Hollow Realization has kept me indoors with the flu for over five days, and I only started to get bored after the five days so it's a 9/10 grindfest RPG that you can also enjoy with your friends.
I remember the time I went into multiplayer and I was able to get endgame loot whilst being earlygame
If having trouble launching the game you need to disable any efficiency cores in your CPU if you have more than 8 active i had this issue and this fixed it for me
DLC 1 was bugged and could not advanced further, dissapointing.

Ive always enjoyed this game from when i bought it on the ps4.
Honestly my take on this game is that it really shouldn't be priced at $54.04 for what it offers. Originally this game was sold ages ago and it's also very dated, it's play style is very lackluster, the combat is very mediocre at best. Also the endless yapping that the characters go through just drags on and on. In order to actually get anything from the dialogs storywise you have to sit through long stretched out conversations, many of which tend to just go in circles just to get to the main point of the coversations. It's not fun, there's nothing interesting in it, it feels like a dull decade old MMORPG without the real MMO aspect to the core game. So again it shouldn't be sold at $54.04.. If it was sold at maybe $20.00 then I could see it being a decent investment.
Bro i originally didnt want to write this but today this stroke really bad.
First of all, do NOT buy this game if you're playing it on pc with a keyboard, the designs are so poorly made a very frequently key you have to use is X, yea but you can change the keys bla bla bla No you cannot, theres like 200 other things you need and theres 0 space available.
And the main reason i stopped, was because of the stupid damn gui. The New game button is litteraly above the fucking continue, so when you accidentally don't pay attention like i did today, yea buddy your file is lost. Damn that was a poor money desicion for me to buy this game and spend 20 hours on it, like atleast give me 2 or 3 extra space to save my god damn files??????
I’m sure there’s a decent rpg for SAO fans in here. Unfortunately for me, it gave me a white screen of death and wiped most of my progress before I could find out. Plus it’s somehow 40 gigabytes so you can just tell it’s poorly optimized even without opening it and realizing the load times are awful.
I love this game! The combat and progression is amazing. Skill obtaining feels fun and enjoyable(Not you soaring slash. Not you.). I loved the story a lot and the dlc's are really nice. First dlc is quite the big difficulty jump since enemies become extremely tough and tanky. I would recommend this game anytime! 8.5/10
