Play this game and get a free clatter helmet in Rust!
Clatter is a rental turn-based tactic in which you create and manage squads of combat robots of various classes, trying to outplay your opponent. The project is designed for multiplayer, there is even a rating system: if you are a skilled commander, then quickly run up the "ladder" and fight with rivals equal to you. In addition to multiplayer, Clatter also has a career mode.
Rating 7/10
Ah, Clatter, what a charming and engaging game it is. From the very moment one sets eyes upon the board, adorned with its intricate designs and delicate figurines, one is immediately drawn into its world of strategy and skill.
The gameplay itself is simply delightful. The way in which the pieces move and interact with one another is a testament to the ingenuity of the game's creators. Every move must be carefully planned and executed, lest one's opponent gain the upper hand. And yet, despite the game's undeniable complexity, it never feels overwhelming or unwieldy. Rather, it is a perfectly balanced dance between two skilled players, each vying for dominance on the board.
But what truly sets Clatter apart is its attention to detail. Every aspect of the game, from the way the pieces are crafted to the intricacies of the rules themselves, is carefully thought out and executed with a precision that is truly impressive. And yet, despite this precision, the game never feels cold or sterile. On the contrary, it exudes a warmth and charm that is impossible to resist.
In short, Clatter is a truly remarkable game, one that any lover of strategy and skill would be remiss to overlook. It is a shining example of what can be achieved when passion and creativity are combined with meticulous attention to detail. So if you have yet to experience the joys of Clatter for yourself, I urge you to do so without delay. You will not be disappointed.
every robot has such unique movement and attacks it made me think of playing a game that i understand: chess. this game alone reminded me of the brilliant strategy of chess.
clatter is cool but i only downloaded because it was cheap and i had an obsession with rust at the time. I wouldn't have put any more hours in it either way just because it never really felt like i did something amazing when i attacked an opponents piece or even won a game.
in the end, this game is not for me but it ignited a ten week chess phase.
Very good and polished strategy game for the low price of free.
Engaging mechanics, fun gameplay, and easy to pick up.
I just wish there were more people playing.

Clatter is a fast-paced and addictive strategy game that puts players in command of a squad of robots in epic turn-based battles. With its sleek visuals, strategic gameplay, and intuitive controls, the game offers a satisfying and engaging experience for strategy enthusiasts. As the commander, you must strategically position your robots, plan their actions, and utilize their unique abilities to outmaneuver and defeat your opponents. The game's challenging AI, varied environments, and unlockable upgrades provide a high level of replayability and strategic depth. With its quick and dynamic battles, Clatter keeps players on their toes, constantly adapting their tactics to secure victory. If you're a fan of strategy games that offer tactical depth and intense battles, Clatter is a must-play title that will test your strategic prowess and keep you entertained for hours on end.
It's a tough call, but I'm going to have to decide NOT to recommend this.
Positive:
I love the theme and artwork. I'm a fan of the robot fighting idea, and there are a couple neat similarities to real robot fighting competitions. Strategy games are often I favorite, and this concept has potential.
Negative:
Strategy games have to an even playing field in order to be challenging and winnable. When you're poor, then some matches don't feel winnable. When you're rich it doesn't feel challenging. There are too many boosters and upgrades that makes this game less like a real strategy game. It's just boring. Maybe, if all opponents are fully upgraded, you'll have a legitimate strategy game, but then you'd just have to grind until you get to the end game, and waist that time.
It seems as though they developed a game based on a concept without having a clear plan. They could have easily developed a tabletop game to test it out before committing to the coding and animations. I really don't know what they made here or why. They should probably delete it and move on to something else.
Seeing all the vapid comments about Rust I thought I'd give the game a review for people who want to actually play the game.
Clatter is cute fun, the gameplay is most similar to Into The Breach or chess. The game has a bit of depth with mechanics to account for such as: armor, attack direction, line of sight, and elevation. While they are not the deepest of mechanics, it does make the game feel more unique.
The singleplayer is pretty fun. You get cash for trying to complete challenges and can spend it on upgrades or more robots. So if you want to build a team of only one type of robot or max as much damage as you can, you're able to. As you use your robots their durability goes down and you repair them with scrap collected off of fallen robots. This means every couple of rounds you might have to swap out some robots for others with higher durability. The AI is not the smartest so I won the majority of my games but it can put up a challenge at times. It took me about 5 hours to "beat" the singleplayer but once you reach the highest rank in singleplayer then the gameplay will start to loop while retaining your roster of robots.
The game is pretty dead so if you are getting it for the multiplayer you either need to find a friend to play with or look for a niche of people to play with. I did play a few games with a friend of mine which were fun for about an hour but I do not think I will be going back for more.
Overall the game is simple yet fun. It is a nice strategy game to just chill out to. I bought it for full price and think it was worth it. The game goes on sale for $2 so if you are looking for a cheap short and sweet turn based strategy game then this one is a fine choice.
This is an adorable little mix up of a chess/Into the Breach type combat with some sports management aspects, a la Blood Bowl. It's simple, but a heck of a lot of fun. There's good variety in unit types and a reasonable amount of strategy that goes into where to spend your resources in the single player campaign mode. I like it a lot.
At first it was very confusing. But over time I really began to enjoy the way it worked, and enjoyed the type of mechanics that different robots can have. Furthermore, I would recommend this to another person to get. Also if apparently if you're a player of Rust, you get a clatter helmet if you play this game, that looks like the Burner.
Like a lot of users I bought this for the clatter helmet in Rust. But after playing the tutorial and several games to meet the half hour requirement to earn the item. I can honestly say, it's pretty good.
I mean if you're a FPS, run 'n gun, raid and destroy type of gamer who doesn't like anything else. This isn't for you. But a lot of you (Rust) have paid close to the cost of the game, if not more for seasonal items and skins. So there's no huge loss if you don't like it.
But the game style and mechanics are pretty quick to pick up on. Each units ability is displayed when you click on it, and the movement is shown on the board. So you don't need to memorize anything. It's just up to you to decide what to do with it, be prepared for the opponents next move and when the board shrinks. The tags say it all. Strategy and Turn Based.
Do I suggest it?
Are you into turn based strategy? If yes. Then absolutely.
Do you just want the Clatter Helmet? Wait until it's on sale. But when you buy it. Actually give it a chance. Don't just AFK for a half hour.
I really enjoyed this game. Well polished and played great. Art style is good, it's a timeless cartoony style that'll never get old. Singleplayer is cool, felt like a sports game going against different teams and building "players" on your own team. I recommend it!
This game is incredibly Hard or maybe I just suck at strategy games... that's possible. This turn based strategy Xcom like game is very fun, but the downside is is that its impossible to find a online match because nobody plays it. You control 8 diffferent units, Grabber, Rammer, Shooter, Igniter, Mortar, Healer, and the Charger. In Clatter you can do skirmishes or the Career mode, in the Career mode you set up a team of 8 and you battle against other teams for the highest placement, for instance 8 wins and 4 losses or 5 wins and 7 losses. Whoever is the top 2 teams get moved on from the bronze league into the silver league, then you get in the gold league by the same way. I really like how the whole Career mode thing is like teams in football. Great game 8/10

From the start of this game I found the tutorial was quick. The description that told you the basics of a match were essentially one liners pictured in a thought bubble from your coach. The game showed an immediate hint that the strategy this game has that it could and would be great. The presentation of the battle arena is very much outlined on a grid that you spin around using your mouse wheel. Add in the fanfare theme music that sounds straight out of Monday night football. The bots have different stats and I found that when I was defeated I didn't get upset that all the rules weren't immediatly explained. It is a challenge to keep playing and develop my own strategy in the absence of a game manual that prepares you for everything. The actual stats are sort of self-explanatory. The learning curve I found was enjoyable. This game is set-up to have tournaments and is played with other teams. I really like the tournament maps. There are many options that combine to make a sports-themed strategy game. The game has crisp sound effects and fine graphics. The presentation is excellent.
The game and idea is fun, the main reason I am giving this game a negative is the duribilty of your bots. I get my squad how a want it and then the bots break and I have to replace them, but is market is random as are the mod slots so its almost impossible to keep any squad that you like. If they removed the duribilty, or just gave us a way to increase it, this game would be a 8/10. As is though dont buy it
I don't knmow why this game is getting such great reviews. It really isn't worth your time or money. There are MUCH better games out there that do the turn based thing justice.
I liked the look of this game, but my experience of SOLO PLAY has been anything but pleasant. Maybe I'm missing a chunk of gameplay, but here are a few thoughts.
1) Customising. You need the in-game currency (Nuts), but you cannot earn it unless you play multiplayer. Nor can you purchase it, since the buy button does nothing.
2) Custom squads. You can create these per map for multiplayer, but your solo play squad is assigned randomly. Sometimes you get a healer, sometimes you don't.
3) Units can fire/grab/burn over chasms, unless the unit is standing right next to the chasm, in which case, forget it.
4) Burners cannot burn from elevation to a lower elevation. But flippers can flip uphill. And bashers can bash uphill, even though the animation seems to suggest they can't.
5) Unit fame stays at zero - at least throughout the Bronze League.
6) Units start at mid range durability and it descends every time they get killed. There's no way to increase the durability level. Eventually your units are toast, along with any mods you bought them.
7) When playing on normal there doesn't seem to be a way to make enough money to keep going, unless the idea is that you get good enough so you never lose a unit and you never have to buy any mods. But even then the durability problem means that by the time you get to the silver league you are going to be out of cash and/or units. At which point the game just grinds to a halt. Not even a "Game Over" screen. You just can't play the SOLO game any more. Shoddy design.
8) I won the Bronze League, but the game didn't even mention it aside from a notification. No prize money, no new players, no fame, no increase in durability. NOTHING!
9) Because the play area is so small (11 by 11) getting first move is hugely OP. You cannot strategise (as you could in Pit People - a much superior game in my view) because you simply have to inflict damage from the get go. Nothing else matters.
10) Because squad composition is random, and you don't know what units your opponent has, you cannot make a game plan. You just have to make it up as you go along.
I played a little multiplayer. There's a booster unit that actually negates the first move single action limiter, meaning that you can be blasted to pieces before you even get a chance to move. The restricted starting layout means you can never leave enough space to guarantee multiple units will not be targeted at once.
This seems to me to be a badly balanced game that needs a lot of work.
I picked it up for the solo campaign, and in that respect its a bit of a let down. The units are varied, the graphics are good, and I've only run into a few minor bugs. Another upside is that even if you are good, its challenging to keep your teams finances going.
That said, the AI isn't good. It's not so much a challenge to see if you'll win, but rather trying to minimize the units that get damaged.
Steam really does need a 'meh' rating instead of just good/bad. This game isn't bad, but I highly doubt I'll play it anymore.
It's addicting if you're into these kind of games. Reminds me of Into The Breach a lot. Although the battle mechanics are lacking in comparison (can't push enemies into pits and walls for example) and it has RNG (variable damage numbers on some units) unlike Into The Breach so you can't plan your moves for 100%. But the aestetics and overall presentation of the game is almost flawless for my taste, all the timings are on point, nothing drags too long. It also has a lot of some social features, even if there are under a hundred players active you feel that the game is alive and populated. I hope the game will not perish in oblivion!
Multiplayer 'Into the Breach' if you're wondering. Simple on the surface but has enough depth to fuel a competitive scene for quite a while with what's already here. Leaderboards, daily missions and map challenges, fully customizable team captain and stadium elements, there's a lot to toy around with for a budget title.
For those of you not into multiplayer, there is a surprisingly robust campaign mode. You can name your captain as well as your team and create a team logo. The logo editor alone is almost worth price of admission. Campaign/solo mode expands on the gameplay with mods for your units, a marketplace for buying and selling mods and units, and various leagues to battle through. You also get three save slots so you or a friend can run other campaigns in tandem.
If you enjoy turn based tactics, you are bound to enjoy this game, especially for the price.
