i cant progress in highfalling manic and idk what to do, dm me if someone can help
I enjoyed playing this and recommend it to fans of visual novels, especially if you enjoy detective / murder mystery types of stories. I have not yet played the *now fully translated to English* first DLC, but plan to buy it.
Things to know:
** not as dark as many VNs out there right now, but tends toward darker themes **
- this is much closer to a VN than a point and click adventure; however...
- there are puzzles, and you have to solve them correctly in order to obtain certain endings
- the puzzles are either deciphering code, or "select the right evidence / dialogue" challenges (I enjoyed the puzzles, but some may not, and getting the right sequence for the "dialogue / evidence" is occasionally frustrating)
- limited choices, but choices will significantly change outcomes
- you need to get to the "normal ending" in order to gain access to the "good ending"; then you need to either restart or go back to the right save point to try for the good ending
- the VN is fully voiced, which is great
Recommended:
- keep saves at various choice points; the skip function is quick, but not perfect
- if you want achievements without a lot of replaying then you may want to check out the achievements before you play (I didn't find a convenient English walkthrough, and dislike youtube videos)
Translation
- one of the best translations I've seen for a Chinese VN
- there are errors, but although one or two sentences confused me, the overall quality was very high; the translation managed to capture the feel and style of the game and characters, not just provide correct vocabulary and syntax (as another reviewer put it, the game feels localized, not just translated)
**Devs: Thank you very much for translating**
Overall: I've played better detective games, but the chapters provided in English were good stories with engaging characters, and the translation was better than most despite fairly complex situations
The first story (ghost hearse) is a bit dull and the English is a bit rough in places. But overall I really enjoyed this game, the puzzles and mechanics are fun and the stories are interesting.

This was a very entertaining VN and should be appealing for mystery/suspense fans, especially people who like stories in the style of Sherlock Holmes mysteries. Although some of the password-cracking minigames are a little irritating, they don't take up much of the overall story. The art is well done, character designs look good, and the little animations with expression changes make the feel of the game less "static" than most VNs. I played through for both good and bad endings and thoroughly enjoyed myself through both plays.
The English translation is also well done with only some minor quirks that are really a nonissue to the story and don't break immersion (for me, at least). It bears mentioning that the first DLC, Inhuman Love, is also fully translated and very enjoyable. The other DLC does not appear to be translated at this time, so English-speaking achievement hunters should bear this in mind if looking for 100% completion.
Overall, this is an inexpensive and well-put-together VN that is definitely worth a go for mystery and detective fans, along with the first DLC.
Decently translated Chinese visual novel? No way!
I mean the translation isnt perfect, but compared to any other Chinese VN i have read .... its good :)
This is detective story with quite interesting plot.
At first, the game didnt really grab me, but as i delved deeper into second chapter it became really good. I must say the story is quite captivating.
There are interrogation events and puzzle solving events. I am not a fan of either of those.
Puzzles you can solve by trial&error or you can google them. But interrigation scenes are timed in real time so you dont even have time to read .... thats not something i am looking for in visual novel.
Grafics are decent, the sprites are animated. Facial expressions are bit stiff (its kinda hard to recognize which facial expresion is the sprite currently wearing), but i guess thats ok for detective VN.
VN has full voiceacting including protagonist.
Overall this is decent murder mystery solving visual novel.
TL;DR: Mediocre, even if it's cheap there are better games or ways to spend your time
+ Music: Enjoyable background music
+ Character: LIU Jin story/behaviour is cute
- Translation: Mediocre
- Story: Weak and obsessed with psychology
- Puzzles: Very simple (typical ciphers) or very weird (Huffman??)
although there's only two cases, i'm in love with this game! i actually had a few hiccups in this game because if you mess up with your choices, you get brought right back to the main menu. that confused me at first, but it conditioned me to save and quick save a lot. having to replay several times did get me frustrated, but it also got me fired up to finish the story. OH BOY WAS IT WORTH IT. i had goosebumps playing this late at night. it also made me laugh when they had one of the characters talk about how hard it is to be an indie game developer. lol breaking that fourth wall, eh? i'll be supporting this and their future games for sure.
A really nice detective VN about a certain coffee-obsessed detective wannabe. Good story and writing, professional-quality artwork interface and music, interesting characters, and just the right dash of humour to make it lighthearted without turning it into a parody.
The chinese background makes it a nice variety than usual japanese or western background, and the conversation and puzzle system gives it a bit of twist to not make it a straightforward VN.
The translation feels slightly dodgy once in a while, and there are some either weird writing or translation, but it's still a good one, an obviously professional translation that convey a writing style, not an amateur translation written by someone who can speak a language but don't know how to localize a content.
I am 20 minutes in and I am really liking the characters and I love the art style. Cant say much but this protag is very likable and not a faggot like harem anime protags. Will update after more time is spent on it.
A crime-solving game worth its price. [Be cautious of spoilers below]
The main character is a coffee-addict with good English skills, loves detective novels and is a reliable friend if you need someone to copy forensic science homework from *good good*. He has the brain and critical thinking of a true detective and a cunning, playful side of a university student.
The nice thing is brainwork is divided between him and his group of friends. The bad thing is his friends' family background and abilities could've used more screentime and improvement.
SPOILERS ---
(E.g: LIU Jin's right eye can see illusions, yet over the 2 cases (excluding the untranslated DLC ofc) she *rarely* uses it or sees anything with it. I mean, crimes, dead bodies, come on, she's gotta see something? I like the little backstory of her and Fei but that's not really what I came here for.
Her father is the captain of a police team, but he doesn't seem to be doing anything useful. Another case of bad police in crime games?
LING Xiao should really get out of the activity room and hang around somewhere with a different background.
XIAO Yi, well dude I don't get if it's for suspense effect or something but instead of asking Fei to crack the password, why not just be straightforward? Oops that might end the game quite fast but hey, he even kept his lips sealed in a car trunk when both their lives were on the line, is that supposed to make sense...)
------
Some details could've used more explanations as well. While you can piece together the big picture after getting all the endings, it seems like certain things are still vague.
The puzzles aren't difficult at all. Even if you get the answer wrong once, 1-2 more guesses should do the trick without a walkthrough. Since they rely a lot on special codes and deciphering methods, the logic behind them can be hard to grasp even after reaching an answer. On the bright side, the game gives you more knowledge on codes and certain scientific terms. Feel free to google more about them if you're interested.
There are inquiry periods when you get to ask a character questions while watching their mood. It's interesting, however with a downside: the time limit. I don't mind being timed, but the timer should last a little longer. Honestly you need to skim through the dialogues fast if you want to get all the clues needed (and of course read any extra dialogues for fun even if they don't give any info). Saving and loading helps but it seems like unnecessary trouble.
The piano tracks and the one track with vocal are beautiful and soothing to listen to. I got the OST because I love the music. The voice-acting is really on-point. I love Fei's serious and smooth way of talking, XIAO Yi's cheerful, clear voice (who is also the singer for one track). The other characters' VAs are good too.
The PAD function with allows keeping notes, save/loading, taking pictures, browsing social media and checking mail is nice. I wish it played a bigger role in the plot. When I saw the camera feature I thought there'd be a chance to take crime scene photos, guess not. The emails and media updates don't matter either. Well except for one choice in one email.
The background are all real taken-photos, but the colors and editing made them blend in really well with the characters' sprites. The sprites move to change expressions and blink as well. A nice touch.
I mentioned Fei being good at English, sadly the English translation of the game he stars in isn't that good. There are more than wanted grammar, spelling errors. The wording especially gets confusing when reading long paragraphs of explanation. It's unfortunate cuz this is a detective game, misleading or confusing text is not what people need.
It's understandable, acceptable. But get ready in case your brain hurts while re-reading some parts. An editor (one) is enough to go through the script and fix things.
Hope the developer makes a translation for the DLC soon too. It's been a while since the DLC was released. I'd love to see more from this...series at least.
Pretty good novel that's quite quick.
The puzzles are not always very easy. The inquiry section is also not all that easy (the first time). There are only a few such puzzles and "action" segments in this game though.
However, the atmosphere and the plot/myster/characters are excellent. Especially true-to-life is the way the main character's friends speak to him and to each other - dialogue filled with friendly mockery and good-natured teasing. It's very rare to see a game portray friendship so effectively in this manner. This game basically makes everyone pretty likeable.
I do wish it was a little longer, but the dev does mention that there is more in the works.
This is one VN that I really enjoyed.
I prefer detective/crime/mystery/horror novels rather than the ones that focus solely on romance [they bore me].
The Adventures of Fei Duanmu 端木斐异闻录 is a detective/crime novel. You play as Fei, a student of criminal investigation.
The game has 2 chapters/cases so far. The 1st one is short and basically an introduction to the mainly characters and the game style. The 2nd is longer and very interesting. You have a few puzzles/deductions plus you get to choose how to conduct some conversations based on questions/topics you can talk about.
Loved the characters in general. There wasn't even one that I disliked. And the art style is awesome too. It's very well made and the characters are beautiful and pleasant to look at.
The menu is clean and beautiful as well [loved the color choices]. The PDA function is easy and add a nice touch to the game.
Glad it was translated to English and the few grammar/spelling errors didn't bother me at all. I got so caught up in the game that I didn't even care.
More chapters will be released according to the dev [as DLC apparently]. I will buy them for sure. Eager to see what's gonna happen and hoping for a romance between my 2 favorite characters. ^^
Even though it's only 2 chapters, the game is worth it's full price. It's not expensive and for the amount of content and entertainment you get, it's definitely fair.
*9.5/10*
Note: You can only save the game when the PDA function becomes available and even then, it's only when experiencing the story as Fei.
Positive
-Good art, characters and backgrounds alike look excellent. Character animations are nice too.
-Believable characters
-Interesting story/mystery without any romantic side stuff
-Fully voice acted (in Chinese), sounds good even if I can't understand it
-Puzzles and interrogations are unique and enjoyable, as well as challenging without being too difficult
-Good price for a decent length VN
Negative
-The English translation is spotty at best*. In casual conversations there are many grammar issues ("He are" etc;), but it is generally understandable. However, in certain story scenes where the language gets complex it becomes almost unreadable. I had to reread entire paragraphs several times to understand the meaning of a particular passage, which was made more difficult by the fact there is no backlog available to reread past events.
-It's rather difficult to tell which decisions you make influence the ending without a guide.
Overall though I really enjoyed this VN despite the translation issues and think it is well worth the price, and I'm looking forward to future episodes.
1:中筋面粉(All-purpose flour)3/4杯(120克),白糖1.5大匙(21克),固态猪油(Lard)4大匙(60克);
2:蛋黄1个,加水2大匙(共45克)打均匀;
油皮
3:低筋面粉(Pastry & Cake flour)1/3杯(55克),固态猪油(Lard)3大匙(45克);
4:牛奶1杯+1大匙(250克),糖1/4杯(60克);
Quite nice VN. For the price game is animated, we have riddle cracking. Not bad english patch on top of that. Fully voiced. Well... they thought about everything? Yup it also has nice and clean menu screen. The only problem I encountered is that save files tend to get broken after session. I dont know whats up with that.
I managed to end these 2 chapters and seems like more will be on steam eventually. If you like episodic criminal adventures with some nice light touch on human drama. Be sure to check it.
The Adventures of Fei Duanmu is a mystery visual novel u play as Fei and solve mysteries.
I had fun playing this visual novel. Anything visual novel that has mystery in it is something I like to play:)
The first part of the game was short, The second part was much longer than the first one.
The story, character sprites, bg, and music were really nice. One thing I found intersting was there was animation anytime a characters expression changed. I also had fun taking pictures of the characters expressions. This is something I've never encountered before. I like trying out new things in a visual novel.
Only thing is that the translation wasn't as good. I don't mind that since this was translated from Chinese to English. There where a couple times I had a tough time understanding what was said because the translation again wasn't strong.
There are a couple times where u will solve puzzles in this visual novel. LOL since I'm not that good with puzzles I had to look up the answers>-<
If u love visual novel that has mystery in it with some puzzles u can play then I suggest to play The Adventures Of Fei Duanmu.
As of writing this the game is still not done because there should be another story to come out as DLC. I have no idea when that will happen. Hopefully soon because I can't wait to play more The Adventures of Fei Duanmu:)
Pretty good. Love Duan's Suzhou accent🎶 The little story when Jinjin and Duan met is warm and sweet^_^
Looking forward to the next episode. Please keep following!
Duanmu Fei has Miles Edgeworth's logic, Klavier Gavin's suaveness, and Godot's coffee addiction lol
I really liked the stories as it also gives me more knowlage on how China is like, not sure if the to be continued will be updated soon with a new case or something like that because I can't search the discussion board when it's filled with chinese only XP
This game has a variaty of puzzles in the 2nd case which I find pretty hard aside from the password hacking one, even Layton puzzles weren't this hard (so I google translated a guide lol)
I don't really like how the whole interrogating thing has an actual time limit but since you can just redo it in skip mode and the timer won't skip it's not a huge issue.
There are still some spelling or grammar errors in the english patch but not too much that you can't understand what's going on.
The camera feature makes me have itchy trigger fingers to take a shot each time a character changes their expression for the photographer achievement XD
