At first i avoided this game. the reviews are mostly against the game and the ending, saying it ruins the game and whole series..
i personally disagree. i haven't finished it, so i can't comment on the ending... but the characters are not forgettable. story so far is really good (the first twist was CRAZY} so please, don't let the bad reviews discourage you! this is still a great game. it's a bit pricy but also has better graphics than the other 2 games, so it's understandable. cubs are a bit annoying... otherwise it's a 7/10 so far personally.
well.. the mc died but its epic so who cares
Very interesting characters and story with a lot of twists that I didn't see coming even with some spoilers! Incredibly unique and fun all around and leaves you wanting 50 more Danganronpa games.
The game is just as terrific as the previous two opuses. Fully recommend it.
Despite what people say about the franchise and its fans, this game is well made and so much care and talent has been poured into it.
Peak story but mid character such like background development. Added some new features like: u literally can lying while in trial lmao, and it really fun
third game, best game imo. the impossible is possible!
adadjbdhksjldk
I really love this game like reaaally. Its music is so good and the minigames especially scrum debate and the thrice non stop debate. The characters designs really fit their Ultimates and the story is also very good. If you already played danganronpa THH, SDR2 and maybe even UDG then definitly try this game and if you havent played any danganronpa games before, then why are you at the shop page of the third game? All in all i really recommend this game
thjis stupid gamey dotn fit wif tha lore bhut icoinc purrrrrrrrrrrrrr
the good danganronpa. expects knowledge of the previous two, though, so not worth it
Honestly I would say that you're better of playing trigger happy havoc again since not only does this game try to hard to achieve being that game, but also the ending is trying way too hard to be the first ending, despite it being, "polarizing" and "needed" for the series it feels like a giant middle finger to any Danganronpa fan, simply because of the criticism presented, that all of the fans are cruel, which honestly couldn't be further from the truth as none of the fans were the ones in creative control of the series, so realistically it's just telling everyone who helped build the series and even make this game possible to go fuck themselves
The game is pretty good so far, even though I know what happens experiencing it first hand takes it to an entirely different level. Only problem I have is the Clicking Delay for me that happens sometimes, but other than that it's completely fine.
ultimate rizzler
havent even done the first class trial
Overall... Pretty good game!! I actually really enjoyed it!!!!
The overall gameplay, characters, music, story (except for the ending, I'll talk about that later), etc. are absolutely AMAZING in my personal opinion. And I personally enjoyed it overall!!
Though... I'm gonna talk about the ending now... (no explicit spoilers)
I *DO* in fact wished the ending was different and wished they didn't do that whole "thingy" but... to be completely honest with you, I actually wasn't that mad at it and actually kinda like it in my opinion. And yes, again, I obviously also wished that it ended the "normal" way but I guess It's not THAT bad...
As for some of the my complaints... it's mainly has to do with the bad pc port.
For the entirety of Chapter 1 it literally displayed me Controller Layouts on default instead of Keyboard & Mouse Layouts, and I LITERALLY struggled to play the Class Trials and do stuff because I don't know what buttons to press if I'm on Keyboard & Mouse. It wasn't until some time in Chapter 2 I realized that when you press "Play" on steam, you actually gotta launch and press "Launch Controller Layout Tool" first to configure and set the layout, go full screen, change resolution, etc. instead of going to the settings in the actual game itself. So before you even start the actual game, press "Play" and then launch "Launch Controller Layout Tool" and then go configure the settings to your liking. I'm telling you, it will solve a lot of headaches ahead of time.
But even when I *DID* changed to the Keyboard & Mouse Layout, there's still a lot of problems if you play with keyboard & mouse no matter what layout you had chose. The delays when I press my keys and mouse clicks, when I literally had to hit a key or click my mouse buttons multiple times because the game for some reason hasn't registered that I am already pressing those buttons... It's awful... if they fix and make a better port for PC/Keyboard & Mouse, I'll most definitely would've enjoyed the overall gameplay a lot more.
Though the ending MAY kinda ruined how I viewed the story from the previous 2 games to SOME extent. I still enjoyed the overall gameplay and mystery solving aspects even with that ending and can STILL recommend the game to others!!!! but I do admit I personally enjoyed those previous 2 games more... but this one is still pretty fun!!
this game sucks version 3
i dont like thids game
I love this game. But goodness, the click lag/delay issues it has are absurd.
Probably the result of a bad port from console to PC.
It's extremely annoying and can even break the game entirely, especially on the casino games.
Only fix is either using a controller or constantly alt tabbing from full screen to windowed. :\
Just straight up broken on keyboard controls really disapointing
The best one. Fixes most of the problems with the first two. Pretty severe writing bloat though. Still one of the few games I actually reflect back on a lot. Is that an embarrassing thing to admit?
this game is fucking amazing! i cried,i laughed,it gives you the chills!! i especially cried at chapter 5 victim's death (i don't wanna spoil the surprise),i felt.....so fucking sad that it took me 2 fucking weeks to recover, that victim will always live in my heart,so i give this game 100/10 i totally recommend it!!! have fun~
Lol who would play 30 hours of a talking simulator lmao
The game is a 7/10. The game is mostly peaks and valleys \. The game the highest highs in the series ie case one but also the lowest lows case 3. The game is also very meta and works the metaness jokes and the plot very well. The music is good always. However my advice to you in this game is just to quit after chapter one and think you just played the greatest video game ever like I did and not go any further in the story.
SPOILERS AHEAD SPOILERS AHEAD
What I like
-Once again consistent sense of familiarity
-Soundtracks continues to HIT. My favorites are: Hangman's Gambit theme, Despair Searching, Climax Reasoning, Discussion BREAK, Darkness Time and Cool Morning.
-All characters and of their writing continue to be interesting and compelling AND SUPER SUPER ENTERTAINING. I mean.. the developers went above and beyond to include an entirely new species: a literal robot. Just that, in my book, you'd have 10\10 character design, god damn you deserve an oscar whoever designed my beloved K1-B0... and Gonta... and Miu... And Shuichi... And Kikochi... Okay, all characters. It's insane to think that this game actually managed to have all characters stick with you.
Kokichi Oma and Miu Iruma. They are the absolute spotlight in this whole game. Their voice acting gave it their all, as well as the script. They are both very entertaining and deserve praise. Wendee Lee, thank you so much for all the work you've done, Kiva from Megas XLR, Haruhi Suzumiya, among other recognizable characters.
-Refreshing new minigames and much improved puzzles
-Stylistically artistic
-Dialogue and script continues to make me chuckle
-New additions to the Class Trials! The lie mechanic is certainly intense. The team confrontation was too good.
-Complete overhaul of dialogue system
-Chapter 4. Despite killing off my 2 favorite characters, I really loved the trial and virtual world, even if it was short experience. It reminded me so much of Animal Crossing and the basics of video game principals in general like noclipping that makes you fully understand what's going on. Maybe Spike Chunsoft can make a spinoff based on this??
-Powerful moment when Shuichi rejects hope and Keebo's character arc. Despite my issues everything that's wrong with Trial 6, the only touching thing that comes out of it was Shuichi, when he's rejecting hope. And Keebo, just when you think maybe, just maybe, he can pull off what Makoto did in the first game, in the last trial. It's such a powerful moment, because it's not gonna work twice, because it happened so many times it's the reason why they kept continuing this killing games up until 53th. When Shuichi realized that, Clair de Lune by Debussy played, it is so saddening because it comes full circle.
-Bold twist and Class Trial 6, even though I have issues with it but I can say the idea is clever. Well played.
WHat I don't like
-Monokubs. These guys were really annoying, when they show up, all they do is start squabbling each other and vomit nonsense.
-Subpar PC port. Sluggish framerates and choppy mouse latency. I don't know why this was the case, as all of the previous 3 games incl the spinoff never had any noticeable technical issues and ran fine. It can be fixed with fan patch but still leaves sluggish framerates when moving the camera and inconsistent mouse movement and unresponsive controls.
-Monokuma's voice does not hit, until waaaay far into the game. This is still the same voice actor who voiced the absolutely iconic character in all of the games and decided to... switch it up? His pitch is too low and threw me off. However the voice does return back to normal much later in the game so this isn't by design..
-Unresponsive controls. The controls don't work very well in the game. With that, it's impossible to finish the final minigame.
-The Protagonist / The missed potential of Kaede Akamatsu. I feel like I got spat in the face by the developers during Class Trial 1, because Kaede would've become something special, she is super charismatic Shuichi is cool too but I can't help but think; Good god. Kaede would've worked so well if the outcome of the Chapter 1 written differently.
-No achievements for character you've completed all "friendship fragments"? I though it was pretty cool statistics based on percentage of achieving the character's free time events, like the previous two games.
-Inconsistent PC Controls. Prior to this game, we had unified, working flawless PC controls, but this game has very different controls. Somehow the devs switched mouse 1 and 2 to complete opposite and among other things like speeding up, and concentrating. This is so unecessary and such a flaw in design because now you get confused when playing in between the games.
-The ending and and Class Trial 6 is an insult and a disgrace to the franchise. In Class Trial 6, we were told that the events of the first, second games and the anime were all but fiction. We were also told, that the killing game continued to be a seasonal reality show for a hundred years. And we're being told that everything had been retconned and every participants memories in this entire game were fabricated. Meaning, their backstories is inconsistent and you can't really resonate with the characters like the previous games did. I have a whole wide of issues with the Flashback Light thing. You gave a huge fuck you to the whole fan base. I completely understand the intent for the story, but I wish this whole thing could've been handled so much better and differently. because I know I'm not the only one who absolutely loathes this final segment of the story. It feels like you're being lectured and talked down about you shouldn't be admiring a franchise such as this you love so much, ie me.
The whole meta thing makes zero sense because everything that happened in the previous games that I admire so much is ruined, this final entry leaves you more questions than answers, ironically the complete opposite what the writer wanted. But hey, this is me we're talking about. It reminds me a lot in that NakeyJakey video "Video game, why can't you take advantage that you're just a video game?". The game mocks you for enjoying these killing games. It's even more hilarous that if you think about it; My favorite trial is the Class Trial 4, 5 and 6 in THH. One sacrifice was made, willingly, no one is killed but the Mastermind, willingly, a taste of their own medicine. The executions, violence and killings were you could say; the selling point of the game, that's true, but ultimately for me anyways, is the story and the characters, and the gorgeous art style, the great soundtracks, THE CLASS TRIALS, as well as mystery gameplay aspects. That's what I admired so much of this franchise. Do you know what's even more ironic? My favorite execution in THH end of Class Trial 5 because you were clenching to butts that the main hero is being executed, but just before he's being crushed to death, his trait saved him! This is such a powerful payoff to his character. My second favorite execution is ironically, again, this game. Kaito is being executed, but just before Monokuma finishes him off, Kaito was already ill, and died peacefully from his sickness, much to Mono's anger. Need I say more? This game is the textbook example of how not to do meta 4th wall stories because it just doesn't work. You grew attached and bonded so much with the characters... then you realize their backstories is completely fake and they've willingly accepted to participate in this whole ordeal in hopes for fame, or to commit horrific acts before having their memories swiped clean and recieve fake ones.
I would say one more thing; For this exact type of ending to work, I wholeheartedly believe something like the next Squid Game would be a perfect candidate because if you think about it makes all the sense in the world.
Buuuuuuuuuuuut.....
Just because I strongly disagree with the decisions made into the game doesn't make it a bad game and despite the technical issues. Far from it. It is an amazing game, made with passion, plenty of content, just like the previous three before it.
If you like good writing and getting invested in a series, do not play this game.
killing game go brr\
Amazing Game, This really did mark off to the end of the trilogy of Danganronpa. Thanks danganronpa for everything as I now move on to many other things. For all those lies and truths did change something.
i'm going to run kokichi over with a semi-truck
oh and good game, i guess
Amazing game, great story, controversial ending.
LOVED IT!!!
I know it was a big disappointment to a lot of the fanbase, but it was my introduction to the games and it was amazing
interesting trials, cool characters, and very interesting plot. A bit of potential was wasted but overall i enjoyed my time playing the game.
Danganronpa 3 is kind of a 50/50 for me honestly. The main bummer is clearly the ending, which definitely ruined my experience with the first and second games (to a certain extent). I mainly reccomend this game because the trials are quite good, gameplay wise its perfectly fine, music is great, storyline? up until the end, its actually captivating. The ending isnt gonna ruin the fun ive had with the game, but it could've been handled MUCH differently.
Another incredible sequel to the franchise! Danganronpa never fails to amaze me with new and creative mysteries and plot twists. But this game took a whole new direction at the end and it was executed near perfection. Obviously due to spoilers I can't really elaborate on that so you'll just have to see for yourself.
I don't understand how Danganronpa 1, 2 & V3 were so incredibly well-made while Danganronpa 1 (anime adaptation) was so horribly paced and Danganronpa 3 (anime) ended up being the worst piece of fiction I have ever watched. I'm assuming they weren't allowed to do as they pleased when working with anime studios. They should really just stick with games cuz they're truly something else. I haven't played Ultra Despair Girls and instead watched a quick summary on YouTube cuz I haven't heard good things, but other than that, amazing games.
However, this game gets a complaint that the others don't. It's a t e r r i b l e port. I played the other games with mouse and keyboard but when playing this game I quickly realized I wouldn't get very far without my controller. All the indicators are still controller indicators, so for some QTEs They only tell you what button to press on a controller despite not even having one plugged in. There would even be times where I'd have to click like a million times just to read the next dialogue cuz I guess this game just barely remembers sometimes that it's supposed to be a pc port. But as soon as I played with a controller, all problems were gone.
Despite the bad port, this game improves the gameplay in every way except for one minigame: Psyche Taxi. It's not bad at all, it's just replaces Logic Dive which was significantly more engaging. The truth bullet speed is back to how it was in the first game which is a little annoying but nothing too bad. But other than that, gameplay has really improved.
Great characters, great narrative, great gameplay, extremely creative, but a bad port. Play with a controller and it's a 10/10.
I like this game but this port SUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! GET THE CONSOLE VERSIONS IF YOU CAN!!!
THE KEYBOARD CONTROLS ARE WEIRD AND DELAYED AND FEELS LIKE CRAP WHEN PLAYING THE RHYTHM GAME PARTS!!!
THE CUTSCENES ALSO DESYNC AUDIO EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE THE RECCOMENDED RAM!!!
Still a great game though.
Amazing Game, Amazing Story, The achievements want me dead.
super serious brudahh
Final and possibly craziest entry in the trilogy! I think the ending might be divisive, but I really enjoyed it
this game is a rollercoaster of emotions with an amazing storyline. some of the characters are made for you to get attached to them so that it makes them leaving a bit more painful in the end. overall, this is a great third game in the series. every moment had you wondering about something and if you want to play danganronpa i definitely recommend playing through all of the games!! though it isn’t needed to play this one, having some of that pre-game knowledge is useful.
yes i have played this game for almost for 7 years ago
Literally peak fiction.
i doint like it when they mean to the purple lier boy. He didnt do antyghing ☹️☹️☹️😢😢😢
It's kinda crazy how the game just ended after I finished chapter 5
I suppose it's better getting no ending than getting an ending that makes me want to leave a negative review on the game! Haha!
I love this game !! (play the other games first tho
Despite the controversial ending, i still enjoyed this game very much. A must-play to any daganronpa fan!
Genuinely could not finish it on my first playthrough, this game hurts my brain, so many illogical stuff and stupid character decisions that i don't even know where to begin with. Hopefully I get through this in my second playthrough tho, bcs that weird school sim with all dr characters seems appealing
I never wrote a review for this game for some reason when I played it 7 years ago, but i'll make this short. Just like 1 and 2, this game has a great soundtrack, visuals, and vibe. For me, this is my favorite of the trilogy. It takes the things I liked about 1, and got rid of (most) things I did not like about 2. It has the 2 best plot twists in the series. I actually fucking enjoyed the crazy antagonist character for once. I found more of the characters than usual for Danganronpa to actually be somewhat believable (about less than half of them btw), and the core main 4? 5? to be very solid. But as usual for Danganronpa, it still has a few fat fucking stinkers. It has by far the best protagonist in the series. I found it to have the best trials, although sometimes the answer to a few discussions can be a bit of a stretch, like always.
This game pretty good.
7.5/10
This game is a lot of fun. As a Danganronpa fan I knew there would be some twists and turns, but this game had way more than I bargained for. My biggest complaint about the game is that the class trials are really long (like 3 hours+ for me), but overall I loved the storyline and the characters in this one. If you've liked the rest of the franchise, you know what you're getting here, and to me it's a great product.
This game lives up to it's predecessors in almost every way. I honestly have a hard time picking which game is my favorite from the series, but I guess if I had rank them, 2 would probably still be my favorite, with this game coming a close 2nd, even though there are some "questionable" circumstances that occur throughout the story that almost seem to lead to nothing. With that said, I'll try to keep this as spoiler free as possible, which might serve difficult, but I'll do my best.
The characters in this game are for the most part, some of my favorite in the series, including the main protagonist. Honestly the protagonists in the first two games were probably the least interesting characters in their respective games, not so much the case here. However, there are a couple characters that add little to nothing of substance, one character specifically, and if you've played the game you probably have a good idea on who that is.
The gameplay is what you'd come to expect from any Danganronpa game. Stuff happens, people die, you investigate the murder, you go to trial, rinse/repeat. Between all of that craziness, there are other events that contribute to character development. The previous games also did this, but this game dives a bit deeper in this. I'd argue these are the most important parts of the game, as they are what allow you to grow more attached to the characters, which makes deaths that much more impactful when they happen, and I gotta say, this game knows how to tug on your heart strings. I found myself tearing up on at least 2 occasions.
Speaking of trials, they're back and more or less the same with a few new additions. The main one for this game is the ability to lie during trials. Lying allows you to take "back routes". They are essentially just alternate paths that still lead to the same conclusion. It's unfortunate that they don't have any effect on the story. kind of a missed opportunity honestly, which makes this gimmick seem a tad bit pointless, and thus make trials feel a tad sloppy compared to previous games
There are also new mini games as well. I won't mention them here but just know they're just as bizarre as the previous games.
As I mentioned earlier, there are some sequences that feel almost pointless, Having little to no impact on the plot once concluded. I don't really know how to go into this without spoiling anything, but there are at least a few times this happened. They aren't all that distracting or anything just sort of makes you think "whatever happened with that whole plot point?"
The game also has a decent amount of post content. one mode is some kind of grindy board game about raising students or something, and I gotta be honest, the moment I saw that, I quit and haven't touched it since. I have literally zero interest in anything like that, So I don't have much to say about it.
There are 2 other modes though, one which I have yet to unlock, but the other is called"Salmon Mode" which is essentially a bare bones dating sim. Nothing too crazy happens, but it's a welcome pallet cleaner after the traumatizing ending you have to endure. Essentially you play casino games to earn coins, then you use those coins to take characters on dates. It's honestly a nice way to learn more about some characters who died off earlier in the game, It also serves as a way to collect missed hope fragments.
You can also access a "special place" in this mode. and let's just say things get very "intimate" depending on which character you end up with. after playing 60+ hours of this game, getting to know all of the characters, this was a combination of baffling and hilarious, but also wholesome to witness. (you may actually be able to access it in the main story also, but I neglected to try it during my play-through)
There's honestly so much more to discuss, but I don't want this review to get too long so I'll leave it at that. in a nutshell, great game, everything you'd expect from the series.
Very good game with very interesting characters and great cases to solve. It has some very nice plot twists and propably the best cases in the series, it falls short on the story part. The ending is very weird and I understand why many people hated it. Great visual novel nonetheless.
