A funny trivia game with a splash of visual novel. It's very cute, but does have a couple translation mistakes. But still, for the price it's definitely worth it.

Great variety of trivia questions, especially if you like anime. Cute artstyle, great vibes. It's very clever how you aren't subject to instantly losing if you get something wrong, rather, your likelihood of a good outcome is dependent on how many questions you get correct in each set. It's also cool that some of the storylines diverge when getting a bad outcome, rather than immediately ending. Surprising amount of content for what it is.

Great premise for anyone looking for a trivia game. The overall presentation and narrative gives off Reigns vibes. And the game-play is just simple multiple choice. Add in the consequences to the in game characters depending on your performance, you get a simple, yet addictive game.
If you know your pop trivia from gaming to movies to anime, you're in for a good time. (Seriously, I know my gaming, but there were some left field questions that really threw me). Well worth a buy!

Wow, this is just delightful, and I actually feel a little guilty that I bought it on sale. 😓
I'm a professional gamedev myself and I can tell when someone took care and poured some love into what they were doing. I'm really impressed by the people who put this together. They wove enough of a charming story into this that I got hooked on what is really nothing more than a Trivial Pursuit minigame driving a simple VN forward, at its heart, and that's really quite telling. The presentation is just wonderful, too. I absolutely adore the art style, and the writing really resonated with me somehow.

I don't even like trivia games, but Majotori somehow makes it fun. It's quite an original little game with some (very) lowkey story elements. It offers a couple solid hours of fun. It definitely has that authentic "passion project" feel and for those who enjoy original games (even if you don't enjoy trivia games like me), it's absolutely worth it.
It's high energy/chaos and the gameplay doesn't offer anything other than trivia, so it's best enjoyed in short bursts. You can 100% it in around 3 hours.
9/10 I want Lariat's autograph now.
I kinda enjoyed the game, but I think it's not for everyone. There are many anime questions—I mean WAY TOO MANY, even for my liking—and I watch about 15 animes each season. I think it's better for short gaming sessions as the music gets tiring after a while. As for the value, it's better to get it at a discount rather than full price.

TL:DR: Visual novelist trivia game with fun stories and interesting trivia questions, but lacks in replayability. It's neither a particularly challenging nor a lengthy game for achievement hunters.
The Game
Majatori is a visual novel trivia game where you follow characters with different wishes in their lives. Their wish can be fullfilled by a witch if they win a game of trivia. The questions themselves are placed in four different categories: anime, movies, video games and miscellaneous.
The game has a engaging narrative with dark and entertaining stories. It also provides the player with the option to adjust the amount of questions from each respective category. Unfortunately you will rather quickly get a repeated amount of questions whenever you start a new playthrough (even though the game states it has over 1000 questions). The questions feel tailored specifically for people who watch a large amount of movies, tv series and anime, as they require vast knowledge about the smaller details of these categories. Being a smaller and cheaper trivia game, it would be unjust to expect more than a few hours of entertainment. Still, it feels slightly disappointing to recieve repeated questions as early as your second playthrough.
Game Score: 7/10.
The Achievements
Variety: 3/10. The achievements are very straight forward with simple objectives. There is very little challenge and difference in the achievements as they require you to either win or lose certain scenarios.
Length: 6/10. The time for completion depends entirely on your approach and how much you know, and how much you are willing to "cheat" (given that it is a single player trivia game with luck involved, cheat may not be the right term). You can complete the game in a range from about 30 minutes to a few hours max.
Difficulty: 2/10. The difficulty is again adjusted by your own approach, but still, the achievements do not provide a greater challenge.
Price: 7/10. There is no dlc available or required. The game's base price feels a bit excessive, given the game's length and replayability. It may not be a very expensive indie game, but it wouldn't hurt to wait for a sale.
Satisfaction: 4/10. Given the game's short length and low difficulty, it does not provide a greater satisfaction when completing all of the achievements.
Achievement Score: 4/10 .
Bought this on a whim and was very pleasantly surprised. Really clever little game, love mixing trivia in with another genre of game. Would love to see more like this!

First found this developer from Pineapple on Pizza (still have nightmares about that game) and checked out their other stuff and was surprised by how good this one is. Great take on the trivia genre with real consequence and branching paths. Highly recommend.
