Although only a minor portion of the 'choices' you make actually have an impact on how the story plays out (and not a single decision in the first few chapters at all as far as I can tell!), this interactive ~300 page story is nevertheless interesting and quite well written. I wish it had fewer characters though, most of them have no meaningful role to play at all and it feels like wasted potential to give them elaborate backstories only to then completely ignore most of them in the actual plot.
This is a really great game... At first I was little offset, but now I have finished one ending (a bad one no doubt) and I was thrilled till the end... actually so thrilled that I hope to reach the other ending somehow... Highly recommendable!
I went into this game blind. I love it! Alt history, time travel, lovecraftian horror! Oh my!
Awesome interactive lovecraftian story based on decision making with several endings and a lot of thought about mysticism or rather occultism.
Without spoilers - a truely beautifully written adventure evoking "Call of Cthulhu" settings with all its hints, twists, used sujets (if you recognize them), but without RPG elements. Instead, you can go back in time and reconsider every decision. Making notes (page number for interesting desicion) were useful to me, but unnecessary and for most people probably exaggerated.
I played it until the end, I did enjoy the game, and I feel I need to write a positive review - and so do I, but I do have some negative comments to make also. On the one positive side, I believe that the story is rather interesting and I was compelled to keep reading it. The setting helps the claustrophobic and paranoid atmosphere, the characters, rather well fleshed out, the tension, conveniently growing until the end. On the negative side, I found that the role that is given to the player is too passive, that the narrative choices given to us are very similar and usually bland, creating a character (our own) that feels shallow. Our role is confined to being either 1) kind and encouraging 2. overly protective and presumptuous or 3. obnoxious. This does not create the feeling that we play an important role. Also, choices really only matter in the last chapter. I undertand the difficuly of having forking paths, I am fine with it, but still, the game felt very narrow.
The reference to Lovecraft is rather subtle and the story is not necessarily in line with lovecraftian lore. There is also no reference to Cthulhu, despite the title, but instead to another god.
Overall, I still recommend it.
An interesting little game. All text (but with music, some images and a bit of interaction sometimes) and around two hours of playtime, it's presented in a very unconventional way, and I really do appreciate the novelty. A supernatural mystery set in 1920, the protagonist being a 13 year old girl exiled from Russia due to the revolution.
Highly recommended.
Not so much a game as an interactive story, this text based Lovecraftian tale has a compelling narrative and great atmosphere, complemented quite nicely by the art design.
A precocious teen girl finds herself on a cruise ship with her mother and uncle, when she decides to investigate a missing child. The conceit is you can communicate psychically with the thirteen year old through her diary writings.
The game promises choices and different paths, depending on which direction you coax the girl in, but the choices seem pretty limited and illusory to me. Still it's a nice little eery adventure story which managed to keep me on the edge of my seat.
If you like Lovecraftian horror, you'll probably enjoy this interactive tale as well. For around five bucks, it's worth the money. Just don't expect a sprawling RPG, though. It's pretty linear.
I enjoyed this game, the story was intriguing and kept the player involved, however as i approached what i think is the end of chapter 6 i was stuck given no options to progress. I tried going back and choosing different answers but the same outcome each time. Hopefully its a game bug and not where the content stops. especially since there is an achievement to finish chapter six.
Overall i enjoyed the game and would recommend, hopefully the devs will fix the issue i ran into.
