the game is decent but not perfect and captivating for me. the old man looking like the other old man in the game called ''A rise Simple Story'' but unlike arise we dont have any impact on caracter's controll its basic tap and go game and the other similarity is rather than old man, you have a story based on old man's life. the quailty of these 2 games are uncompetable but the art design is simple and beautiful in both games. I think if I ever played that game before The Arise, I would just think yea this game is the first step of how a captivating indie and emotional game would give an idea to someone who wanna make a real cinematichart breaking indie game like Arise. worth it only in sales
I first played Old Man's Journey on mobile a few years ago, and I recently bought it on Steam for nostalgia’s sake. I have to say, the game is just as captivating as I remember. The hand-painted art style is absolutely stunning, and the atmosphere is so peaceful yet emotional—it draws you in completely. The puzzles are simple but beautifully integrated into the storytelling, making the journey feel meaningful and reflective.
It’s a short game, but it’s packed with heart and charm. I’m so glad I revisited it on a bigger screen, as it allowed me to fully appreciate the incredible visuals and immersive soundtrack. If you’re looking for a touching, visually rich experience, I can’t recommend Old Man's Journey enough.
It's gorgeous, but that's all. I love a good walking simulator, but this one has neither narrative nor gameplay.
Nice graphics, relaxing music, but the control sucks. You move lands to get the old man to his destination, but you can't move the land you are standing on. This will cause a lot of walking back and forth. Sometimes the land stuck, so you need to try several times. It is not clear how far you could move the land, so when it's stuck, you are not sure whether to find another path or keep trying to move the land. It gets tiring and boring pretty fast. The story is rather predictable halfway through the game. I would give 'neutral' if I could. However, between recommended or not, I would have to pick no because the control part is irritating.
While the art is quite good, the gameplay becomes repetitive, as it involves solving the same puzzle for 1.5 hours. Unfortunately, the story doesn't add much either, as it feels very cliché.
Crappy story.
The good:
- absolutely beautiful artwork / graphics.
- smooth animation, and also really nice motion generally.
- great music that fitted well.
The bad:
- it’s not really a game, just a child’s picture story book with next to no story.
- the ‘puzzle’ elements are tedious, not fun, and utterly repetitive.
Unfortunately I can’t at all recommend it, not even as a cheap purchase to relax to.
好玩写意
The art is beautiful. I did not enjoy the game however. I did not find it intuitive to play and in the end I very much disliked the "old man". I felt sad in the end and frustrated.
It's an Old Man's Journey. Straight up.
Wow, these graphics. What art. For both the normal scenes and the memories, the art is just perfect.
The gameplay is quite unique, where you're moving the hills or eliminating obstacles to help the old man on his journey. It's pretty easy, but I think the game is meant to be quite chill.
The story is told only through visuals with no dialogue, which I don't really like, but anyway, the visuals are fantastic and tell the story well. The story is pretty predictable, but that's fine. And I think the people talking about being unable to sympathize with the old man are kind of missing the point. The game isn't advocating for the choices he made. It's about regret. The message of the game is obviously to not do what he did. I think it's a nice, wholesome little game, and yeah, don't take people for granted.
Old Man's Journey, a game with a gorgeous artstyle and a simple soundtrack.
It tells the story of an old man on a trip, which turns into a kind of soul searching journey and you are the one helping him reach his destination, by manipulating the terrain around him.
Wasted 1.2 hours to get an unrealistic ending in a very tedious game.
Nice short game, would be nicer if it had achievements.
a fun and cozy game. the story isn´t too long and i kind of wish there was more to do in it however i thouroughly enjoyed it and will play it again when i want something calm and not too difficult. if you´re into relaxing games then this one´s definently for you
Moving Mountains
The Old Man and the Sea
Old Man’s Journey is an interactive adventure subtly inviting introspection and reflection on life, the choices we make, and the weight of our responsibilities. Beyond its apparent puzzle and point-and-click mechanics, the game asks us to chart a path and clear the way (both literally and metaphorically) for our character—a retired sailor who sets off on a journey after receiving a letter (whose contents remain a mystery at first).
As the journey unfolds, various landscapes and scenes pass by—villages, countrysides, and paintings that come to life. The goal is to interact with the environment, reshaping the terrain so that hills align, enabling the old man to progress through each tableau. While this serves as a literal way of clearing his path, it is above all metaphorical. Through the journey, the character’s introspection and memories are shared with the player through illustrations. Gradually, the reason for his departure becomes clearer, revealing the ultimate purpose of his journey. It feels as though a loop is being closed between his past, present, and future.
By altering the terrain, we also feel like we’re shaping his thoughts—revisiting his life as he stands on the threshold of his final steps. What have I accomplished? What are my best and worst memories? What decisions did I make, and what were their consequences? Did I take responsibility for my actions? Did I fulfill my dreams—or shatter them? Should I feel regret? What will remain of me after this life, and what legacy will I leave behind?
In this visual storytelling experience, the game explores pivotal moments in life, from his youthful days of joy and love to his ambitious seafaring dreams and the crossroads that defined his existence.
"What if?": The Art of Reflection
The adventure quickly becomes a pilgrimage. The reason for his departure? His first love, with whom he had a child. Amid the passing of time and the grind of daily life, disputes arose between his aspirations of the open sea and the weight of his responsibilities at home. Feeling stifled, he slammed the door and left, abandoning his wife and child without looking back.
Now, this woman he never truly forgot is nearing the end of her journey. Perhaps it’s time to say goodbye… before it’s too late. Too late? Is it ever too late?
The old man moves slowly, pausing now and then to take a slight detour, gazing at the horizon—a horizon that symbolically bridges his past, present, and future, just as the game mechanics unite disparate pieces of the environment. This slow pace encourages contemplation and reflection.
The game also invites the player to interact with small elements of the environment—opening shutters, playing with birds, or switching lights on and off. While these interactions may seem trivial to the gameplay, they add life and realism to the experience, focusing on details that awaken buried memories.
Furthermore, reshaping the environment to allow progress seems like a way of asking, “What if?” Paths that once seemed irrevocably closed can now be reopened—with effort. Players may need to experiment, going up or down, right or left, to rediscover the proper direction and meaning, reconnecting elements that had once been severed.
So, is it ever too late? The game seems to suggest that no, it’s always possible to reconnect something—a bond, a conversation. You cannot remake the world, but you can rearrange and reassemble what exists to rebuild relationships. In the game, this culminates in a final conversation with his partner at her bedside and the beginning of a new bond with his daughter and granddaughter (or grandson).
Perhaps this is the meaning behind the beautiful illustration of a whale surfacing amid hot air balloons—water as a symbol of life, renewal, and rebirth.
Grandpa’s Resistance
Should we fulfill our dreams or resign ourselves to an imposed life while passively watching it slip by? Should we regret our choices? The game’s strength lies in its refusal to answer or judge the old man, nor does it depict him as seeking redemption.
The answers lie within us. What would we have done—or what will we do? Some decisions are more profound and impactful than others; choosing one path often means forsaking countless others. Growing up is truly the trial of a lifetime.
The game’s apparent simplicity, enriched by its poetic and artistic design, hides a deeper and more complex reality. The balance between these elements makes *Old Man’s Journey* a touching and pleasant gaming experience.

In brief:
Positives:
• Deep reflection and a cohesive blend of narrative intent and interactive experience
• Game mechanics align beautifully with the concept; environmental interactivity enhances immersion
• Stunning visual and audio artistic direction
• Casual, accessible, relaxing gameplay with an uplifting ending
• Avoids judgment, encouraging open-mindedness
Negatives:
• Limited gameplay challenge (not the game’s focus, but it stays firmly within the comfort zone)
• Lack of replayability
• Slow character movement (matching the reflective tone, but it might frustrate impatient players)
• Slight lack of interaction in the core mechanics (connections aren’t always clear)
• Short, one-shot experience: satisfying but may feel “too little” for the price
Honestly, I thoroughly disliked this game. The mechanics got boring pretty quickly and the story was just a huge disappointment. I feel like this game tried really hard to excuse an awful person's actions and make the player sympathise with them, but in the most frustrating way. The visual side of the game is top notch, though! Just the overall experience was meh.
Short and sweet. Really beautiful art style and unique landscape based puzzles. Downside is very little replayability but definitely worth a try during a good sale.
Old Man's Journey tells a deeply emotional story, following an elderly protagonist on a reflective journey through life. The simple yet charming art style enhances the narrative, adding warmth and depth to the experience. It’s a touching tale of memories, regrets, and hope, beautifully presented in a way that resonates long after the game ends. A truly heartfelt experience that genuinely made me cry (twice).
Wholesome game to wind down and ease your day and also make you wonder and appreciate the things in your life
A straightforward and simple way to tell a story. But the story turning point are weak.
The control of the game is very poor. I always misclick it.
I don't think this game has any puzzles at all; they are too easy. To be clear, it's not a con for me. You're not buying it for the puzzles. Right?
With a better visual and puzzles, I think Gris is better than that. But it's still worth for trying. (If it has a discount.)
A very soothing experience that at the end may cost you a tear.
A poignant puzzle game that mostly involves manipulating the landscape to get the old man through his journey and his memories.
Ein kurzes aber dafür wunderschönes Abenteuer mit einer Spielmechanik die ich so noch nie gesehen habe.
Klare Kaufempfehlung für jeden Wander- & Abenteuerfan ;)
Short game, that's not very complicated, with a beautiful art style and story; would recommend.
Very nice and warm game!
Beautiful art style, creative concept. A bit lacking in certain game design elements, but still definitely worth a playthrough (especially at a discount)
👍
A bitter-sweet story, plays in about an hour or so, but so calming throughout it. Perfect for getting out of a rut for a moment.
Really nice and relaxing game. Not much content, just two hours, still worth it tho, I really enjoyed it.
This game got me crying.
Not only does each place make you feel you're in it, it makes you feel through this journey alongside this man- as the man
Like playing a colourful storybook. Game is about 2 hours or a little under if you're quick at solving the puzzles. It's point and click but I think it might add some extra immersion if you play it on a touch screen due to the way the gameplay works.
Simple, beautiful and relaxing indie game
Short but sweet indie game telling an emotional story of an old man and his memories while going through different terrain around the world.
Has an unique mechanic to move terrain with mouse.
Beautiful music, artstyle and storytelling. there is no subtitles, dialog or monolog to be found, but in a good and fitting way for the game.
7/10 wish it could be longer tho.
The type of game that definitely leaves an impression on you. This games takes you on a journey through beautiful landscapes and memories as you catch glimpses at this old man's life... and then you find yourself back in your seat.
The game is short and quite easy, which is not necessarily a bad thing when it's so well-rounded: the soundtrack, the art, the story, the gameplay mechanic all work perfectly together.
Great job to the developers, and a special shoutout to the art designer — it's the first time I’ve checked a portfolio right after playing a game :)
Treat yourself to this gentle, touching story. The music and visuals are lovely and the mechanics are fun ^^
Wonderful calm puzzle game with a beautiful story
The colourful game
Art is exceptional! Wonderful game would 10/10 recommend to all the cozy game lovers out there. A couple of the puzzles had me scratching my head for a good min but I eventually figured it out.
I would walk 500 miles. then i would 500 more...
short and sweet story
A sweet story with nice art, but I found it to be kind of slow and boring. Might be worth it on sale.
This game is absolutely gorgeous. It's like getting to dive head first into a storybook. They story is a bit sad but still very beautiful. Definitely play this one if you can.
i recommend if it's on sale since it's so short - beautiful art and poignant story. the gameplay/puzzles are super simple so nothing stands between you and just experiencing the game and its story on an emotional/vibes level
What an incredible game, the way the story is only told by the use of graphics while being accompanied by a musical background track is awe-inspiring, it shows simple games like these can and always leave lasting impacts for those who play them.
Its definitely worth a play though to understand how simple game mechanics are able to provide such an immersive experience and one where the player is able to take a very relaxed journey as they watch the story unfold.
It would have been amazing to be able to purchase the soundtrack through Steam instead of their own website, the music is beautiful and really helps to tell the story.
