City of Rott: Streets of Rott

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

You die when you get bored. Does just as expected besides being graphical nice to look at. No frills game, same npc types all over variety in size and speed.

Made me go outside for what it's worth.

Gamepad movement input and hitboxes are borderline broken.

I watched the movie version when it was originally released and I enjoyed it overall. The artistic style translated well in video game format....but I'm afraid my praise ends there. The game is essentially a side-scrolling beat 'em up in the vein of Final Fight or Streets of Rage....but while those games had excellent controls....this game does not. They are simple....don't get me wrong....but you pretty much spend your time either moving forward to escape the re-spawning enemies....or being boxed in by said enemies....and getting knocked back and forth like a cat playfully swatting a mouse. Sometimes you just feel helpless....especially since there is no jump maneuver to get you out of a tight spot. The hit detection is wonky as well....and sometimes you'll get hit by an enemy that's a different elevation or seemingly not there at all. I played the game for a couple of minutes....until I got to an area where my path was blocked by piles of green goop....and I just quit playing when the game wouldn't let me destroy them or move past. At just under a dollar....the price was cheap....but as with everything else in life....you get what you pay for.

Got it for like .49 still think i got screwed. 0.6 hours was plenty

I have played a lot of action style games that play like "Final Fight", "Streets Of Rage", "Brawl Brothers", and "Pit Fighter". I am even familiar with OpenBOR. Most gmes that play like that, pretty much have a similar play style.

This game needs lot of work, but has a lot of potential. Gameplay itself needs a lot of fine tuning. Some of the problems I have ran into are...

1.) Getting hit when there's no monster there
2.) Collision detection is very off
3.) When you get hit, you get pushed backwards a bit (This can be bad if monsters are behind you)
4.) Boss battles take way too long (First boss battle took me close to 15 minutes to beat and 14 continues)
5.) Some of the foreground objects force you to walk around more than normal
6.) No jump button
7.) F12 exits you out of the game, so it's not possible to take screen shots without changing the Steam default
8.) Keys take a while to get used to as you can't change them around

Graphics I do like as they are very horrific in style and the characters are pretty cool. Some of their moves take a while to get used to, as you are forced to use only the buttons as are set in the options. You can change some of the options around like the difficulty, lives, etc.

Overall not a bad game, and you have unlimited continues, but the frustrations of ever playing a perfect game are very impossible. Price is not too bad for this game, and so it's not bad to have in your list. You will die and continue tons of times. Since there's no "Middle" or "Mixed Reaction" button, I am only saying "Bad" as you will have a lot ot work with when you buy this game.

I've been playing this game for past an hour. Personally it's really fun, fighting through hordes of zombies with some pretty fun mechanics and weapons you'll find lying around.

The music as usual with Frank's other work (City of Rott, Dead Fury, and Shock Invasion) is well put together, it gets you pumped up as you play.

Though some of my complaints is the collision and how the zombie touches, they'll barely touch you and you'll lose so many health. Sometimes when you use the gun it will not kill them, the bullets will just fly past them. Most importantly the control mechanic, I'm just not use to playing on keyboard, I was really hoping there was a control mechanic so I could play with my xbone controller.

All that being said, It's still a fun game regardless, I mean the game is 2.99 so it's a win win.

I give this game a 7/10, it could be better but it's not bad.

While it is not a Streets of Rage and has some flaws It is a great game for a City of Rott fans. You just shouldn't expect much and accept the fact that game was made by an artist and not by a professional developer.
