The innovative combat system, full-attack, covering, in-melee, prone, etc., various circumstance modifiers bring more meaningful tactical choices.

About graphics similarity with another game ToME4:
We purchased and used a tileset of monsters/items from the Norwegian artist Raymond E. Gaustadnes (Shockbolt). He made another tileset for ToME4. So, both tilesets share the similar style and a few same tiles. Thanks to the Open Gaming License (OGL) from Wizards of the Coast:
It has been stated explicitly by Wizards of the Coast that anyone can make a computer game using the open game content under the terms of the OGL. The OGL can be found in the OGL section of their official website, or the in-game Wiki system. In order to apply a set of rules designed for a pen-and-paper game to a computer game, many rules in the OGL had been adjusted or improved.

I am just one hour into this game and I can tell you right away, If you are into Battle Brothers but fantasy, Not a so much of Story but tactical combat and you can really make it hardcore on all sort of levels and fun but I keep reading this game has been abandoned if it's true it would REALLY SUCK Because here we have a hidden game. The graphics are ok - it's something to look at but the gameplay I really like.
BUT
My game was on french and couldn't even change it to english, I had to change name of the english and french language files in order for it to be in an language i understand.
Early access - yes, it feels like that. But so much details into classes, combat and so on. It's a paper and pen roleplaying tactical combat game.
Open this game up for modding and let people do their own stuff, classes and so on and this game could go FAR
[EDIT]
OK I ASKED FOR A REFUND
WHY? Because WHERE THE FUCK IS MY SAVED GAMES? I spent fucking time to make the characters and get started and now when i return, WHERE ARE THEY?
First i had to change from french to english myself by changing names of the translation folders due to the options doesn't save for shit.
Nothing seem to be saving. Fuck this. SORRY - I REALLY LIKED THIS GAME, I though it was fucking awesome but NO IF I CANT SAVE I WONT PLAY OR RECOMMEND
One of the worst game's i've played
Enjoyed the current state of the game, there’s a lot of elements I’d love to see expanded upon, a lot of skills and feats yet to be implemented. I enjoyed the arena for fast pace battles, the auto battle function was a nice touch, played both adventures but felt they were lacking a bit of depth. As it is, it’s solid, worth playing, interesting enough in terms of item procurement and resource management, but really doesn’t scratch the itch of a full campaign. The dungeons in the adventure modes are good and feel very old school D&D, so as a dungeon crawler I’d recommend it, I got it on sale and thought it would be a buy and stash for later, but I saw it had achievements ready to go and having been a fan of D&D 5e, I thought I’d give it a whirl. The balance issues I’m sure much like 5e, that dwarves (and halflings) to a lesser extent are way over powered, but I believe that’s just a trope of dungeons and dragons now, so had my 6 dwarf party run the table in the arena, able to auto battle most of the fights, particularly with so few skill challenges/ need for charisma/ variety. (I went 2 barbarians, 2 fighters, 1 wizard, 1 cleric). I think the fact there’s no level cap is amazing, makes me think once the game is done, for a challenge a solo adventurer campaign could be great fun! was happy to hit 100% of achievements in it's current state, hope more are added!
I think it’s a game with a lot of promise, as it is, it’s fun, but has the potential to be amazing with a bit more polish and time! Would pick it up on sale and actively looking for games like it!
good game
As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly
I have loved games like this since Telenagard came out in the 80's. Great RPG!
Honestly a much more fun and interesting game that gets credit for. The game-play and customization are very deep almost to the point of inaccessible except for the fact the game allows you to turn off restrictions if need be. The difficulty sliders are probably the best in any game I've ever played, allowing you to control so many factors you can make this the most difficult game of DnD you ever played or literally the most brain dead easy Rpg in existence.
pretty good
For many years and even now, Low Magic Age has within it an amazing Arena experience wherein you can play six legit AD&D classes upon a massive old-school chess-like grid and duke it out with random Monster Manual mobs until you finally meet your match.
Almost half of my hours played in this game were from one such arena run. I couldn't let that one go...🤪
Fun
Very under-rated "DnD 3.5e simulator". The arena mode is pretty fun and addicting, I already have around 100 hours in it. Lots of good loot, many different party combinations, and many different ways to level a character. Its a game I like to just chill out and grind while I listen to videos or music in the background. They are working on an adventure mode too that seems like it could also turn out really good. If you like fantasy, turn-based action, rpg mechanics/leveling, or DnD, I think there is a good chance you will enjoy this game even though it isn't even complete yet.
I wish the game handled level penalties the way NWN2 did it, where they let you create them at level 1 but it took longer for you to get your first level up instead of just throwing a big "nope, you're not allowed to play this" in your face.
I know you have the option to remove the penalty altogether but that's not what I'm looking for either.
I expected more after seeing it had been in early access for 7 years, I've seen games hit early access in a more finished state than this game is in now.
This game is awesome already. I really look forward to future content. Why? Oh it scratches the itch of party based, turn based top down grid view combat/strat, with vast exploration AND loot! Done really well, already extremely immersive and full of customization. So glad I came across this game and took up a sword for adventure, or a maul, or sling, or an orc double axe!
DO NOT be fooled by the misleading info on a fleshed out story mode. What we have here, is just a basic bare bones sandbox, with no actual story telling and quests that actually use skills like diplomacy or being able to break out of ropes when captured. (Yes that was in the EA at the time of release). Performing skills are pointless to put into. You can't even role play as a downtrodden band of misfits trying to make ends meet in a pub. Many other skills that haven't been implemented in over 10 years. If this was what was alluring you to the game, Stay VERY FAR AWAY or don't, and have VERY LOW EXPECTATIONS. If just a sandbox to mess around while you smoke a fat joint, chug some ale or hard liquor with some friends in discord, or to escape from work, then this will be an easy buy. Cheap, and you can still get your money's worth out of it.
I give it a 4/10. A four because I did play a decent amount of hours before waiting years for anything related to what had allured me to this title in the first place.
Its massive for such a small team. it will probably be in development for years to come, but im here for the ride
There's a lot of good in the game, but the UI is pretty terrible. There are some pretty ridiculous hoops that you have to jump through to play it the way you want. The game is based off of D&D 3.5 rules, and doesn't do a very good job of simplifying them. So character creation takes quite awhile to make a 6 player party. If you don't want to create characters, there are pre-generated characters, but the problem is they will automatically make all the level up choices. Not just the character creation choices. There is no way for you to manually level up pre-generated characters, only the ones you create by hand.
Everything is so inconvenient and just really annoying to deal with. If the QoL was better, I could sink 100+ hours into this game, because once you get into the actual gameplay it's pretty fun. But then a character dies and you're back to square one trying to figure out how this game even works so you can get a character you want to replace them.
I bought this game in 2017 to support what looked like a pretty great game. I just dipped into it again to check it's progress.
First fight was fine with my wizard and the NPC cleric. Wizard got banged up (as is their wont), and so I went to use some healing spells after the fight.
And... You can't. You can't use spells outside of combat.
In 2017, at whatever version they had? Fair enough.
In 2024, version 0.91? Fuck off with this nonsense.
I regret supporting this game.
very nice
I've discovered this little gem while looking for a third game to fit into my turn-based rpg gaming rotation with Solasta and Pathfinder. So far I've played 32 hours and my party is 7th level. Not as polished as the other two, but it follows the older D&D rules really well. The battle system is good and you never seem to run out of that next awesome item to make your characters better.
Great game. So awesome to see how far it's come.
It's a nice little arena game for DnD battles under 3.5e rules (with some customisation available). If you want a a game that allows you to test different builds and engage in some quick combat while you're having your morning coffee, then this game may appeal to you. The adventure mode is incomplete and very simplistic at the moment, but it's EA so can't really expect much.
I really do hope the devs move forward with development.
This game has been in EA since before covid. I remember at some point I was asking if it's possible to not move all at once but in single steps, like x-com classic. They responded by saying yes it will be in the future. Still waiting.
Somehow this feels like exactly what 10yo me wanted Dungeons and Dragons to feel like on PC back in the 80s. Love it.
I'm really into the game. I haven't updated my save since the old way of playing but it is super fun I really didn't think I'd like it because I didn't understand d&d or any of those kind of games. But I will say ever since I started playing it I really really enjoy it. Can't wait! See what it looks like at the end of its game development. If you haven't played it, I highly recommend it. If you just like open world tons of mechanics and just a fun game, I like to make goals for myself in the game like level up the sky or that guy get get this part of the map as mine and I really like that. It's open world super good. Hope you try it and enjoy it like I do
I don't think I've seen a game this cheap get so many updates at no extra cost over such a long period.
As someone who loves CRPGs and games like Tales of Maj'Eyal, this hits the spot.
I expect many hundreds of hours of this in my future.
Has potential to be great, and is playable as-is, but is very much unfinished.
I really like the way you can unlock character feats/skills via 'custom' by right clicking the character Icon....I can't imagine ALL the skills/feats are useful in this game...if they ARE, it truly is a deep conversion of the 3.5 tabletop game....
7+ years and is still considered early access? I bought along time ago and premise seemed promising if they put a whole game together. But really 7+ years now and early access and not a finished game.
