'Trapped Above the Clouds' is the second installment of the EscapeVR series. It is longer, larger, and more challenging than the first game, EscapeVR: The Basement.
Your Mission
You find yourself trapped above the clouds - in a wardrobe of a mile high building which is still partly under construction. Can you escape? Not everything seems to be working as expected. You might just have to do some construction work yourself, or even nick some equipment from the canceled base jump event on the roof...Explore the environment, solve puzzles, dare to do some crazy stuff, investigate clues, and find your way through a total of 3 large areas to -hopefully- escape the penthouse of this VR escape room game.
Features
- Explore three distinct areas with a total of over 800 square meters, and more than 250 items to interact with.
- The game is designed for room scale and features a teleporting system.
- In case you get stuck, a built-in hint system provides you with clues. You’ll also get in-game statistics about your performance, and there are Steam achievements to unlock!
Will you take on the challenge?
Will you manage to escape - above the clouds?
Also available for VR Arcades via SpringboardVR.

Good game. I liked how if you press every button on the elevator... you had to wait for it to go to each floor :). Also the clever puzzles for solving the unlock slide puzzle and the lock pick tool. These were good games and I wonder why they stopped making them.
The game is just very bad. You can't turn around other than with your body, you have to constantly crouch to pick things from the floor... It's clear the game was not properly tested. One particular puzzle I have to stand on my knees for about 15 minutes because it was too low to check properly when standing. Awful, terrible controls for Valve Index as well, not intuitive, some objects were not working properly because of the confusing controls. And the puzzles were just... bad. Unoriginal, confusing, and some not very logical.
Feels a bit like "my first Unity project" both visually and the way it plays, but it's short and simple enough not to overstay its welcome.
A little harder than Basement, less funny, but I enjoyed it, even though I had to use some hints.
I enjoy VR escape rooms, but this series is just too linear (you have to have a very specific thing to accomplish one task to move on) and they are not very clear. That made me us the tips more than once, which I hate. I am not asking for just making a game easy, on the contrary, I like a challenging puzzle, but once I find the solution, I want to say "Oh, that makes sense" and not "Damn, I was doing almost exactly that in 6 different ways, but it wanted me to do it in a very specific way" type reaction - that gets annoying.
It took me some time just to figure out how to play the game using a Valve Index. There are no instruction telling you how the controls should work. After more than an hour and a half I have that much worked out and a couple of the puzzles solved. So at least there is hope that I can proceed with the game at this point.
As much fun as going to a real escape room. I'd say anyone that can't figure out the puzzles probably can't do real rooms either. Got a little hung up as the last clue seems to have a typo... But still a fun game.
As bad a vr escape game as could be...
Imagine all the possibilities VR offers ... and this is so so boring.
Gameplay is way too easy for it to be fun (except for children maybe).
Graphics look cheap.
Its fairly short, but the puzzles are solid and entertaining
If you like the "realistic environment with 50 objects, two are useful" style, then I think this is a good example. I personally prefer the "series of themed abstract puzzles" style.
Super fun, could be more actual puzzles to complete but in general a blast. dollar to hour play could be better but since my friends will play it too it will be orth it.
Unfortunately I can't recommend this game or its sibling, EscapeVR: The Basement. Some of the puzzles have ridiculously obtuse. The controls can also be a bit janky. Don't try to start the car or you most likely won't be able to get the key back out. When I finally "succeeded" the game had a physics freakout and the key completely vanished.
I like this. INtelligent puzzles. Much better than the average escape rooms. It took me 3 and a half hours to complete and I got stuck a number of times (no walkthroughs).
The Graphics and Screen shot's make this game look like a cheap low budget game. IT IS NOT :D It's a really well made game. Much attention was payed to the mechanics and it's fun, challenging, but not so challenging to be frustrating. It's a very fun escape room and one of my new VR favorites. Also, It's a nice non intense experience for new comers to get their VR legs.
Poorly made puzzles with multiple that do not follow logical sense. The wire one doesn't make sense and would be better with one extra piece and the code following it should just have a page without coffee. Holding objects while interacting and moving around is also a pain.
Here I am, thinking that I want to play a nice relaxing puzzle VR-game. I was mistaken.
The game forces you to think like a 6-year old, looking for obvious clues instead of hidden / clever ones.
I would not recommend. Find another Puzzle VR game.
I gave positive review for the 1st episode.
For this one no, sorry. Take it at 3-4 Eur max imo.
The whole game design is made to add artificial play-time...
Also, why do you want to escape this nice rich place where you have food, drinks, TV, music...and a mobile phone ??
"Escape room" means escape darkness or madness, but not escape from the Trump tower...even if IRL maybe you would.
WHAT'S IN THE BOX?
'Escape VR Above the Clouds' is an 'escape the room' game; you are locked in a room and need to escape by solving puzzles. The game actually has a couple of rooms through which you need to progress mostly linearly. Puzzles vary from easy ("find element X") to hard ("align elements A-F correctly").
VISUALS
The style of this game is realistic as in 'everything looks as in would in real-life'. From the visuals I'd say the game is set in the present. The graphics are top notch, the objects are beautifully designed (that car! OMG!) and fit together nicely. Also, the game takes place in a high building and you see the clouds below you most of the time which lends a specific cool atmosphere as well.
SOUND
There are the usual background noises and sounds when interacting with elements. Sometimes the player himself speaks but this happened maybe two times. There's some music throughout the game (for example in the elevator) which was a welcome change from the normal quasi-silent environment.
CONTROLS
The controllers are shown as hands and everything that can be touched is highlighted so it is easy to grab; there are also specific animations for interacting with stuff which I found quite nice. There is no inventory though, so you can only carry two things at once which I found annoying at times but overall wasn't much of a problem.
GAMEPLAY
As is typical for escape games there is no story, though I have a suspicion why the player starts out in a closet next to a bedroom ^-^. The content of the game is progressing through puzzles, which were interesting and inventive. I really enjoyed solving them (though some are a bit obscure) as most of these make sense logically and lead to one another. One was really hard (that code!!) and I had to use the hint system (which could be visually improved btw). Overall it took me about 2 hours to complete.
BOTTOM LINE
Top notch graphics and great puzzles. Fans of the genre will have a great time.
Better, longer and more difficult then Escape VR the basement
You really have to use your imagination for this one
Many area to visit and some room for future DLC maybe hopefully
Same has Escape VR basement savegame (checkpoint)
Escape Rooms for VR is my favorite style of game to play when people are over. Escape!VR does a great job coming up with puzzles that are fun and difficult to solve! I'd definitely recommend Above the Clouds if your looking for something to play that includes those watching.
