Fun and enjoyable SRPG with a big dose of comedy and cute graphics.
This cute strategy game brings strategic and comedic elements together in order to perform a unit management combat that is much like a simplified fire emblem. The unique skills traits and personalities of the units allow for an interesting game play that can be enjoyed. This cute game I would highly recommend as a casual favorite.
EoA is one of my childhoold memories. I particularly loved the II of this line and had played through it many times. I was so excited to randomly discover EoA4 yesterday, since I thought Softstar wouldn't make any more EoA games.
EoA4 so far is not bad, plenty of nostalgia and plenty of fun. The graphics however is a bit dated and the Taiwanese accented narration kind of threw me off (I am Taiwanese myself)... though this is a Taiwanese made game, I thought it would be really cool to have either Japanese (for the anime element) or English (for the western medieval-ish setting) voice over.
Despite there are easy goals and hard goals for each battle, I still feel the difficulty is much more on the easy side.
And I am a bit disappointed to learn (from critique, not from own experience) this generation is much shorter, and the class tree is much more simplified than the previous generations.
Overall I loved this game but mainly due to nostalgia. I feel that Softstar should have invested more resources in the development of this game. If the details were more fine tuned, storyline lengthened and more classes offered, this could have been a breakthrough for round-based-strategy games again.
Looking forward to EoA5! I would definitely buy it.

THE STORYLINE IS VERY SHORT!
I HONESTLY THINK EOA2 WAS THE BEST ONE AND I HOPE IT COMES TO STEAM AS A REMAKE!
This game is solid. Big thumbs up.
It has just enough of everything to make it fun.
Don't expect perfection as it's not voice overed in English.
If you get this on sale you will have made a great purchase.
While the game seems to be largely functional, claiming that it has an English language-option is borderline false advertising. What it has is an ENGRISH option. The translation is simply tooth-grindingly, toe-curlingly bad, filled with messed-up grammar and transliterated phrases. No wonder the screenshots all avoid text-heavy areas of the game...
Look, if you can tolerate that kind of thing, or happen to be fluent in Chinese, this may very well be a fine game indeed! If not... it's not. Simple as that.
A very charming turn-based game. Whilst the graphics are a little basic, they are still very nice to look at, with quite good scenery as well as pretty nice characters.
The music is good - from the excellent title music to the melancholy tune during the map section, it all fits in well.
The character upgrade system takes a bit of getting used, but it works well.
The only slight downside is the sometimes dubious English - but that doesn't affect gameplay in any way.
Despite the cute characters, the story is pretty dark - lots of people do get killed (off screen) and a character does commit suicide too, jarring quite a bit against the graphics.
It's a lot of fun! It's rather challenging to get to "S" rating for some battles but it's definitely very addictive. Save/Load is your best buddy when you make some bad moves. I hope they would keep producing the series!
I'm going to call this a literal Chinese knockoff of the Neptunia games.
Despite how mysterious some of the gameplay can be (I've beaten the game and still don't understand how damage is supposed to be calculated), the game is extraordinarily simple to the point of shallowness. It's missing some mechanics that I kind of expect in a tactical rpg like forced movement or dots. There are field effects but the player never gets access to them.
Healing is grossly overpowered and there are a few missions in the game that are absolute slogs as a result.
Character classes are unbalanced and the final tier of classes are a hot mess.
The story is pretty standard fantasy fare except that there are only women in the world? I'm pretty sure it's not explained... but I guess it's not that important anyways.
The game has a simple and cutesy art style. It's okay.
The game's audio is in Chinese and I'll admit it took some getting used to. It's different and that frightens me.
The music is repetitive and I turned it off a quarter of the way through the game.
This game is the definition of mediocre but it's also pretty comfortable.
I'd recommend grabbing it for like 5-7 dollars.
I have played Empire of Angels 1 and 3, missed 2. Picked up 4 and it's fun. You can advance in classes just like 1 and 3. Interesting story and brought back memories when I played EOA1 long time ago. They added pets which is probably copied from Pokemon. Would be better if they add more customization. This game is also pretty cheap. Picked it up you won't be sorry.
A solid, yet easy and not too complex turn-based strategy game.
I have spend about 15 hours with the game now, and I guess I am halfway through the main story. It starts out very very easy, you can basically not fail. The game is similar to Fire Emblem, Shining Force or Front Mission, not that similar to Disgae because every Hero kind of has a story and is unique.
Cons:
- The combat is very easy and difficulty only starts to rise after 10+ hours if you try to reach all objectives in every stage (S-Rank)
- The combat is incredibly shallow. You have very few skills, nearly no customization (like Weapons) and elemental ressistance and skills or character facing don't seem to matter too much. In Chapter 4 you slowly need to start to pay more attention to these things
- No meta-game and nothing to do besides combat. Nothing to explore. I have a lot of money but there is no use for it. You only need it to unlock classes I have like 20000+ at the moment (and you can even "steal" money from enemies) but to unlock a class you only need to spend a fraction of it.
Pros:
- Cute Anime Graphic
- Fully voiced story (Chinese!! Hooray). If you like a regular JRPG you will like this too!
- No grinding necessary (though you can)
- Enough different classes, though until 3 Star Rank there is not much difference. After Chapter 4 is where classes slowly diverge.
In the end, a solid turn-based strategy game if you like the art style and JRPGs in general. I have much fun with it.

Empire of Angels IV is a interesting strategy RPG with only female characters.
It isn't XCOM or Fire Emblem, but it is enjoyable.
Nice music, Great 2d art. ok 3D model, pratical adventure story, and rarely neat VO (in Chinese).
Game isn't too hard. You could grind if you feel stuck..
I think It would only be challenging if you want to get all S rank.
For the original price(15 USD) I believe it's worthy.
It has some notable flaws. But they're bearable.
I am not usually compelled to write reviews, especially positive ones, but this game is pretty great. I expected something awful, or laughably bad. The translation is a little Engrish and some parts of it lack polish, but it's a genuine, full fledged game. It has a bit of fanservice that isn't too bad, the character art is absolutely adorable. It looks like a more High Res Luminous Arc, but plays a lot more complex with class changes, dodging, and all kinds of things. There are secret quests, the story is surprisingly not awful. All in all it's very worth the 8 bucks I paid for it. Had I known this game was this good, I would have paid the full price for it.
If you like tactical RPGs it's not going to be as hardcore or in depth as Fire Emblem or Disgaea, but it's easily as fun as FF Tactics A2 or Luminous Arc 2. Sadly there are no cute boys, but Frida may be the cutest thing I've ever seen.
My only 2 nitpicks so far are that I'd like if there was a way to show characters in their default costume and not class costumes (Fridaaaa), and to pan the camera up and down instead of just zoom in and turn. There may actually be ways to do those things. Controller support wouldn't hurt. All in all though, I'd actually recommend this to my friends and already have. I went from joking with them about how terrible it would be to convincing them to play.
I was very surprised and disappointed when I discovered that the save / load function is non functional offline. This means that while I will keep the game in the hopes that the developers will fix this problem in the futuer, this game will probably not be frequently played by yours truly as I have many more similar games that save / load just fine offline and online. I urge the developers to fix this problem as the game is otherwise a joy to play.
Do you like games like Fire Emblem? Empire of Angels is essentially FE light... if all the characters were female, and lived in a biologically impossible world populated by ONLY females, and everyone wore sexy clothes... all the time.
The game is a lot of fun. The story is serviceable, light-hearted for the most part, and doesn't interfere with what we're all here for, the battles. Two things really stand out for me. 1) The game essentially allows you to, very organically, choose your difficulty. Maps give you three optional objectives in the battle that you can either choose to complete or ignore, with two often making the battle a little bit harder/more intense should you choose to pursue them. If not you can simply breeze through a lot of the maps with minimal difficulty. 2) The game rewards you completing these optional objectives, but doesn't ostensibly punish you for not completing them; anything you earn through working harder during battles can also be earned through grinding, which is a nice compromise I think.
Admittedly the translation isn't perfect- at times it is more a transliteration of the native Mandarin rather than at true Western translation i.e. some metaphors and idioms come off as awkward or incomprehensible because they are transliterated rather than rewritten to something more identifiable to a westerner. There are occasional misspellings and odd syntax as well, but all of these things are minor, in my opinion at least, and I don't feel anyone should be completely turned off by it. Also the game can be a bit grindy, and even encourages it. I've been mainlining JRPGs since birth so I break out into a cold sweat when I can't watch numbers incrementally rise over long repetitive sessions of play, but for those who don't grind up JRPG's a snort them through crisp rolled up dollar bills regularly this may be a bit of a turn off.
All in all this game is a bit of a hidden gem, and certainly a credit to the Taiwanese game industry
Been a fan of this game since Version 2 and that around 20 years ago? It maintains the same characters but the plot are different. The game play is still somewhat the same - turn based, attacking skills, occupations. New features such as pet with adaptive skills.
Occasional levels for you to grind as well.
The save system doesn't work offline. On a many hour long RPG, this makes the game unplayable offline. Which boils down to a soft kind of online only DRM. Which is unacceptable for me.
Still don't know whether this is a bug or an intended "feature", but since it's not the only game from these devs with this issue, it seems it's either intended or not important enough to fix. And this is a big enough deal that I'm posting this review to make it known to potential buyers, as there's no warning of this online only requirement on the store page. None that I can see, anyway.
I'll remove this review (and rebuy this game) once this issue is solved.
50 hours.. and game complete. Still got a few grinding to do to unlock all achievement but it's still a pretty good ride!
I have played angel empire 2 and 3 from like 20 years ago and this really brings back memories.
Personaly I like 2 > 4 > 3 in that order but all 3 is still really good games maybe i wil go back and find 1 in some old website in the future to play it. Storywise 4 happens from 1000 years after story of 2 or 3.
Cubbie graphics of Tactical turn base combat. Not as many class as previous games but still need to keep switching class interesting. Personally this one feels quite a bit shorter in the plot with some extra annoy grinding that you will have to do.
Music are very well done at the most part and so does the consitency of graphics. There are a bunch of sprite animation bugs A good example is when a soilder fall on the grond he his sword clip though the ground.
The voice acting and translation could have been done better. Some of the actress is trying but some of them feels like reading from a book in flat tone. Translation got lazy at certain parts and removed a lot funny chinese joke when translated into subtitle.
7.8/10 for a must play be serie fan but it does comes with it's flaws and shortcomings.
PS: Story don't quite end at the end of the game and there are plenty room for sequal.
Well this is a pleasant blast from the past. Played the first and second game in the series when I was still in elementary and highschool. Never thought I get to see a sequen in English and on Steam no less.
Basically old school SRPG. The art is very anime and on the cutsy side. While the graphic is simplistic, some of the detail is endearing such as the expression on the character's face when launching and receiving attacks. The ability to brach out when leveling up is nice though I remember the previous series have a much more varied classes.
Overall for its price it is a nice little game if you are into the genre.
Well, I have to say that I'm really enjoying the game. It's somewhat simplistic and a lot of the strategy is going to be based on the classes you choose for each character. The story is nice, and the character interaction is great. It's a cute game, and you really will fall in love with the characters. I'd also like to note that combat is quite fast compared to other tactical games, this is a good thing. Sometimes in these kind of games, the units move so slow, and then the animation is slow, but they did it right in Empire of Angels IV. In conclusion, it' a fun simplistic game with fun characters, good story, and really good character interaction. I am happy with my purchase and am enjoying the game.
