An awkward janky mess with no style, no charm, & no sex appeal. There is a broken image icon on the screen the whole time you play.
After playing STATIC: Investigator Training (from the same company) I bought this looking for more and quite enjoyed. It isn't a sequel but seems to be in the same universe.
It's a very short game, but cost almost nothing. I recommend.
Shame that the developer doesn't exist anymore.
this will be the last time I chuck a molotov cocktail through a window just to see what happens. and in real life too.
A little fun for a while, but there is some bug with the new game button that discouraged me of finding all endings.
I liked this one. There was a lot of roaming around a derelict mill finding things to access locked areas so you can set your charges. You navigate through the static scenes by clicking arrows to get to the next one. The map is very useful.
There's also a lot of jumpscares- very few were actually scary. I missed about half of them entirely. Music would signify something scary is happening but it was gone before I saw it- which was okay. I liked the adventure of the game- listening to the various recordings, finding documents in addition to accessing new rooms more than the scary stuff. There's no dying in this game which is another thing I liked about it. Mostly adventure, mystery, psych horror. If you like that, go for it! Note: there are 10 endings- not 8. Oh, and voice acting is very good too.
An okay spooky time-filler with a few scary elements. You're tasked with planting explosive charges inside and around an old derelict building where many people have gone missing throughout the years. What can go wrong, eh? As you keep pushing inside the building, the plot starts to develop and at the end when you get the full-ish picture of its history, it becomes kinda intriguing. But it's not a very deep sophisticated game, nor is it lengthy. Can be beat in about an hour.
2.5/10 Drin Score.
OK, don't get the low score mislead you. I still recommend this game most probably if you can get this in a large discount.
This game is very basic. It's just still photos of somewhat creepy rooms in an abandoned plant/factory, which you are tasked to demolish. You are just going from room to room, implanting demolition bombs. Story is very basic, so you welcome the voice acting which is passable but just sparse. You get some audio files to give you a better understanding of the story, but nothing special. Some scenes when you go back to will give a jump scare, but it's very fake and it's not scary.
Still, if you have less than 1-2 hours free, you can try this (should be bought at a large discount). I think other people will just quickly pass on it and they're not missing anything as this game is forgettable.
I really like this game! Its a shame it hasnt been updated much since a couple of years ago.
However, its still nicely polished and done up, and worth the buy if you can grab it on sale.
A point and click psychological horror game. Its not long, you should be able to complete it in about 1,5-2 hours, after that you can try and do extra endings.
You go about exploring a building you need to help demolish, but things to go according to plan. Cant really say much here, the screenshots describe most of what you will be seeing, you will find audio logs and notes along the way to learn more about the place all while having eerie music/sounds play in the background. Fast travel between locations is available, but the map is a bit confusing. There were some items that I could understand the use for, but maybe they were for endings I didnt do.
For what it sets out to do I think the game delivers and I would recommend this to fans of the horror genre.
7/10
I'M A FIRESTARTER, TWISTED FIRESTARTER - Prodigy
Okay maybe not a firestarter but you are a sidekick for a demolitions expert named Frank (who seems to revel in calling you a 'rookie') as you navigate around the grounds of Edmont Worsted Industrial complex in 96 Mill St, Rhode Island to prep and place explosives at key points marked out by Frank.
As you explore each area you will hear Frank eloquently update you with warnings or advice of that location but he also sounds spooked by the abandoned, run down photo-locations and is very keen to get the job done then GTFO!
in addition to Frank's ramblings, you will discover dictaphone recordings scattered around that reveal a past investigation adding to the backstories of the 'jumpscare' ghost elements that appear throughout the game. These 'jumpscares' are mostly sound effects or a flashing image that appears so they are not frightening in any sense of the word.
There is also historical backstory to the Owner in the form of clippings & reports as an extra objective so there is an interesting variety of plots to this game.
The game's purpose is to follow arrow directions that lead you further into 96 Mill to either unlock doors/rooms or collect items for your inventory. As you explore there is the option of using the arrows OR using the Map for quick teleport, the game will autosave during progression of objectives and assignments such as collecting the dictaphones or placing of the explosives. Once you unlock 1 of 2 endgame areas (marked as 'Optional' on map) and then travel to there the game completes giving any of 10 endings depending on what objectives were fully completed. This creates quicker replays since you will become more aware of what objectives to do & know which weren't completed when reattempting to uncover further endings.
The game presentation is simple but effective, I liked its use of photo-locations because it evoked memories of countless hours spent playing SSSG puzzle/escape games (Super Sneaky Spy Guy - check them out if you never heard of them because you will see the inspirations taken from them). The eerie music adds to the atmosphere and the simplistic effects aren't mind blowing but are effective if you're playing with the lights off with headphones! There is great use of voice acting that really adds to the experience and I personally think if that element was taken away from this game it would seriously devalue its gameplay.
The game does have weaknesses in that it overcompensates in guiding you through the game but if you don't make use of the Map or aren't fully absorbed in the direction of the story it is very easy to get lost mid-game ending up with an early game completion. This could get frustrating for some players who don't enjoy repetition or want a smooth gameplay in one sitting but I would advise these player types to either avoid this or take this into consideration as it's purpose is to replay and uncover multiple endings
I also had an unusual issue with the Menu when attempting to load a game after an ending had happened, it would bring up a file to select but when you choose it the game fails to load beyond showing a flashing '96'. Yet after restarting I found that if I clicked new game then clicked the mouse as it was loading it would take me to my last location point before the past game had ended! Whether this was what it is meant to do is unclear but if so why was I having the Continue/Load Game issues?
Don't let my moaning of the loading deter you from this game because it is an enjoyable story & the gameplay is addicting in both its mysteries and its multiple endings. I managed to uncover 8 of its 10 endings during the 5 or so hours of playing but it is achievable in less.
One thing lacking which I believe would compliment the tasks in this game is Achievements plus trading cards wouldn't be a bad idea too then it would be worth its full price.

Well done point and click game especially with such minimal graphics, not necessarily bad just minimal. Areas were easy but not boring to maneuver around. Only was stumped once with how to unlock an area. The quest log was mostly not needed and it was hard to sometimes remember where certain areas were. The simplistic but effective jump scares had me holding my breath each time I walked into the next room, whether I had already explored it or not which made it beneficial to not just fast travel to every room. The endings were all fairly similar and anitclimactic and left me wanting more. I only paid 59 cents so the game was more then worth it. I only put in a 2.3 hours including getting all the ending so I wouldn't have wanted to pay much more, but I don't feel like the full price of the game is too bad either, but that being said GET IT ON SALE :p
It is a well done point and click game, with an eerie atmosphere and some nice exploration. The story is simple and keeps you interested in the building and the characters, but just when it seems to be building up to something really cool, the game forces you to make some stupid decision and makes you end the game with little to no explanation to what actually is going on. The different endings are all very much the same and I finished the game without no sense of reward whatsoever. Very disappointing.
I love a spooky game. I've played many of them and most are decidedly average.
96 Mill attracted me because it's use of photography rather than artistic graphics, which made the locations look far more interesting than they might otherwise have been. I bought it during a sale, so the price wasn't too high and it was worth a punt. One I'm really glad I took.
The story is quite simple: you play a demolition worker tasked with setting charges to blow up an old mill. Unfortunately your boss has gone MIA and you need to explore the grounds in order to find him.
Cue spooky exploration.
The developers have created a lovely game with a gorgeous atmosphere that had the hairs on the back of my neck raise more than once. That takes some doing! Any spooky game that has me thinking ‘I really don’t want to click on that’ has done it’s job by default. It uses point and click mechanics so it has a familiar feel to anyone used to the genre. The game also has multiple endings, depending on your actions within the game, which is always a lovely touch.
If I had any complaints it would be that 96 Mill was a little too linear and showed the points of interest on the screen without forcing you to look too hard. I don’t like pixel hunting but I do like to ‘explore’ the environment and it would also have made the game a bit longer. These are minor quibbles, though.
Bottom line is I liked it – a lot – the devs understand how to build tension and make creepy really creepy, unlike the jump scares most rely on. For these reasons I’ll be looking out for new games from them and give 96 Mill a solid 6/10 for a satisfying game-play experience.
I liked this game. It is not very long (about 2 hours), but the atmosphere and mystery in the game really stirred my curiosity.
You play as some demolition worker who has to install explosives on various areas of the site of an old building planned for demolition, while listening to your boss walking-talking to you, commenting or giving you new tasks as you explore the building site.
96 Mill is just a point and click game composed with real photos, but I found that the gameplay was very similar to the Painscreek killings. You arrive on the site of the abandoned building and you uncover the story of the building and previous occupants, as well as a ghost story (because the building is haunted ;) ) by finding various documents and recordings. Using keys or objects you find along the way allows you to unlock new areas, and so on...
As you advance in the game, you start hearing ominous sounds and seeing apparitions that will spook you (or not).
There are 10 different endings that you can all find directly from the last save in the game, so you don't need to start a new game to get them.
If you like exploration games, you should definitely try this game.
This is a good example of a game that needs a "neutral" rating. It is neither exceptionally great, nor is it terribly bad.
The gameplay is point-and-click, with static scenes to move through; it feels like moving from one photograph to another. There is limited interaction and you don't need to figure out exactly how to interact, as the interaction points are shown as picture-in-picture insets at the top left of the screen. Nothing is challenging here. The map also tells you exactly where you still have locked doors to get through and has what I call a "zoom-zoom" feature, making it hard to get too lost since you can apparently teleport yourself around the factory.
That said, although the scenes are static with limited interaction, they are appropriately creepy-looking and well-crafted. There is no background music and the ambiance works. The voice-acting sounds like it was read straight off the script, which works in some places (i.e. the newscaster voiceovers sound convincing) and doesn't quite click in others.
The game would have benefited, in my opinion, with less blatant attempts at scaring that really didn't quite work. It was pretty much a matter of 1.) move to new screen, 2.) random sound and/or ghostly image, 3.) resume gameplay. The first time or two might be good for a startle but after that it's pretty pointless.
All in all, however, I did enjoy the game. The imagery is well-done, the story is interesting although it could have used some expansion, and the voice-acting didn't make me want to gouge my eardrums out. Multiple endings give the game some limited replay value as well. At only $5.99. it's not an expensive way to kill a couple hours (I clocked in at around 2 hours and three endings completed), but if that's too much investment for 2-3 hours of game, wait for it to go on sale.
Really nice creepy story. The jumpscares were a bit off in some parts since I just noticed the music indicating something had appeared but I didn't know what it was since I didn't catch a glimpse of it. But what I did catch gave me the creeps.
There are also 10 endings and while I haven't gotten them all they're good. I especially like the option to just say fuck this and go home.
A very short point and click. Make your way through an abandoned building by finding items that eventually unlock all the areas. Fairly easy to figure it all out. Unusual game set up where only stills and a map are used.
Don't buy at full price but if you get it on a BIG sale it's a fun 3 hour game.
Okay, this game is low-key. You never see your silent protagonist character, or any of the others with a speaking role. Instead you hunt down items to use in order to unlock new locations and make them ready for demolition. Increasingly though, you see creepy apparitions. Some are repeatable, but not all. I've managed to get 2 of the 8 endings and a couple of game-overs and that means I've not yet discovered all there is to discover in the game.
If you don't set your expectations too high, then 96Mill is definitely a good game. The atmosphere is creepy even without the apparitions and some of the apparent junk items might have some use I've not found yet. Just don't expect this to be a triple A title, but its worth picking up on sale or just regularly.
This is a really nice, short game. Not really worth $5.99, but I got it on sale for $1.49 and it is a great purchase at that rate. The graphics are all photos, but that sometimes adds to the creep factor. The side character of your boss is very well done and made this game really fun. The music is standard horror, nothing special. You should try it, just not at $5.99.
Really creepy images, great sound effects, and easy to get immersed in. I still haven't found endings 1, 2, or 7, but will probably keep playing until I figure it all out.
I was pleasantly surprised with the gameplay of 96 Mill and really happy I didn't judge this book by its cover... er... game by its screenshots rather. It doesn't look like much, but it gave me the creeps and had me looking over my shoulder the entire time. You feel like you're in it with the real talk of your partner, the atmosphere, and the sounds. The ambiance really made this game great. It wasn't frustrating to figure out, but made me think for a minute what I should do, where I should head. I've gotten 3 out of the 8 endings. Two of the endings were fairly similar and nothing to write home about, but one of them was my favorite. Not gonna give away any spoilers, so decide for yourselves. I'm going to go for all 8 endings. You go through it pretty fast after for the following playthroughs , so it's a game you could get all the endings in just a couple hours. Not gonna lie, I hesitated alot and stopped a couple times due to me being a *****, so my play time on record is just under 3 hours. I'd say it's a fair price for the game as well. Play with the lights out for best experience.
