Описание

Model ship lovers rejoice! This is a collection of six finely-detailed vessels for viewing at both "model" and "actual" size with a VR headset. Stroll their decks as they sail upon a beautifully-rendered ocean with dynamic day/night cycle. Remotely control them at model-scale on a park "boating" pond, where you can compete against a "ghost-ship" to capture the most buoys, or pick them up for a closer look. Each ship includes an "action" event while at sea, whereby mighty cannons fire, ship horns bellow, or the submarine dives.

Included Ships:
  • Ocean liner: RMS Queen Mary
  • Zumwalt class destroyer: USS Zumwalt (DDG-1000)
  • Iowa class battleship: USS Iowa (BB-61)
  • Seawolf class submarine: USS Seawolf (SSN-21)
  • English "race built" galleon: The Mermaid (fictional)
  • Crude oil tanker: ABQAIQ

          It's cool.
The VR movement is a bit dated I feel, teleportation, or smooth motion would arguably be preferable, but that is personal preference.
A bit more interactivity would be nice, not asking the entire ship be modeled inside (far too much work!) but perhaps the bridge on each would be good, or the guns at least.
All in all though, a nice chilled experience.

From the same people who brought you "VROOM: GALLEON", this is essentially just a detailed 3D model of various ships with some added effects. Spending $10 on it might be a bit much since there's no game here, but each ship is pretty well modeled (on the exterior anyway) and you can even go below the water level to get a look at the hull, rudder and propellers/screws.

You get 6 ships to choose from: a 16th century pirate ship (much like VROOM: Galleon), an Oil Tanker, a Navy Submarine, Iowa class battleship, a Zumwalt class Destroyer, and the Queen Mary 1. Some of the textures could use some work, but overall it's still pretty neat.

You can change the time of day/night which is nice and for each ship there's an extra event you can trigger that sorta demonstrates some of it's power and abilities. You can also sail a mini Remote Control version of it around a small pond (complete with mermaid). There's also a camera on board the RC version so you can have a view off the deck of your mini ship as you sail it around. For some added fun, sail your ship under the mermaid in the pond.

It's pretty much the same thing as Magnificent Ships: Volume 2, and I actually reviewed that one first (so you can just check out the review there for more info rather than me copy-pasting it here). I recommend picking this up on sale, because I think $10 is a bit much for each one given that there's only so much you can do with it right now.

The Graphics are pretty good for what it is, but it seems like some things are well detailed and other are just kinda bare-bones. I'm sure some of that is due to the level of access needed to produce a high detailed model of active military hardware, but in the cases where they COULD provide more detail (like on decommissioned WWII battleships) it would really elevate this from "neat" to "awesome".

I'd like to see them add more information about each ship and make it more educational, but it's worth at least $1 per ship.

It's not a bad experience, but there isn't much in it. You can fly around the exterior of things that look like real ships but the scale is off and a lot appears to be missing. There are areas where it looks like a detail or feature was added to be explored but it ends up being a blank square. It is interesting to be able to see the ships from a distance, but if you actually fly towards them, the experience starts to lose value. It is an interesting concept but I do not recommend it. I expected a few more things such as a partially open bridge or some interior spaces. After I spent a few minutes flying around the ships, I realized that some of the details appear as if they were added just to say that they were there but don't serve any real purpose or function. Functional systems are completely missing and objects seem to be in random places where you might think they look appropriate. For example, there are ladders that go up to elevated platforms but no openings for the ladders and some aren't even straight up or down. The galleon might be the most detailed, but it still looks like an empty shell and not a functional ship. Ultimately, I cannot recommend the game because I was slightly disappointed by the experience.

Nice Experience, Would Love a Snap-Turn

Played on Oculus Rift CV1 with Touch controllers. I don't have a particular interest in ships or maritime history, so I was reluctant to pick this up. Since I like casual VR experiences, and all the reviews are positive, I thought I'd give this one a try. I purchased a bundle (Volumes 1 and 2). The wave effects and time of day changes are excellent. I wouldn't mind a little more resolution on some of the ship textures, but they still look good. I have really enjoyed watching the sunrise and sunset from several of the ships. I also had fun playing with the model ships in the park.

My only major complaint is the lack of a snap-turn option. I have 360 tracking, but I'm still tethered. Few things break immersion more than constant worry about a wire tangling and twisting. The fact that the joystick is used to toggle between ships made it more frustrating- I accidentally tried to snap-turn on more than one occasion and found myself looking at an entirely different boat. I like the existing trigger and point movement, but a snap-turn would be a huge enhancement to the controls. It would make navigating on and around the boats much more natural and enjoyable. Outside of this one complaint, I found it to be a pleasant experience and will probably revisit the boats often.

I've left a more complete review of the game in the discussion section but to be brief here. I highly recommend this game If you are a lover of Ships and the Ocean.

I had a lot of fun exploring the ships and taking screenshots, and with the ability to change the time of day you can get some truly beautiful sun sets. My favourite ship in game is the Cunard-White Star liner Queen Mary :)

This is a sandbox ocean exploration experience. So as long as you're happy with that I'm sure you will love what Magnificent Ships Vol 1 has to offer.

I have released 2 videos on my YouTube channel on this game already and the reaction from the community has been brilliant.

As a ship fan, I really enjoy this experience! The Queen Mary has always been a favorite of mine, so I just had to have it! The detail on the ships is really quite good. It's nice to see the ships in different lighting conditions, and the ocean looks amazing,

I was a little disoriented at first by floating in space over the ocean, but quickly gained my "sea legs" and actually like this method of locomotion.

This is one of the first games I've played on the Vive and I really enjoyed it. I felt like I was there. I enjoyed looking through the gunsights on the battleship, and standing toward the stern of the submarine (my "head" was underwater part of the time, and above part of the time). I was transported--this is an experience I couldn't get in any other way. One of my Navy buddies is eager to see it. His enjoyment alone will justify the cost.

Magnificent Ships is well, magnificient! It is very comfortable to move about with the unique locomotion of pulling the trigger and pointing where you want to go. Really enjoyed exploring all of the explorable parts of the ships. Graphics are very high-quality. This is a very nice introduction to VR expeience.

Very realistic on the outside. I loved firing the guns. Can you model the inside? I'd like to see the Titanic, and the inside of it, be able to walk through it (as well as the queen mary). Heck I'd even like to see a cruise ship inside and outside. Can you add fish to the water? Can you put the ship on a map location? Maybe I'm asking for too much...

I choose this game as the first VR experience for my father who is a Navy Veteran, trained on the Missouri in Korean war, and is 85 years old. He was amazed at how accurate everything on the ship was and absolutely loved it. He had no issues at at all, was very comfortable for a 30 minute tour of the ship, so that says alot at his age for the smoothness of the experience. Running 6 level quality on a gtx 1080. He also adapted quickly to the movement mechanism, very natural.

So we've only tried 1 ship so far but can highly recommend this game for others with a knowledge or love of these vessels....

          Well done.

I liked this experience. Any experience that explores real world things or places that I will probably never visit on my own, interests me. The controls are smooth and the quality of graphics and lighting are high. I hope the dev makes more.

A nice experience if you like ships and/or model ships. It would also be a good general experience to introduce people to VR, who might be intimitated by shooters and other more complicated simulations.

An interesting collection of ships. The movement system is intuitive and smooth. I especially like the ability to make myself "life size" by zooming down to the deck of a ship, and then have it fire its guns. Watching it do it from "model" size afterwards, gives you a good sense of perspective.

The water is very well rendered and things looked well in both the default graphics setting, as well as the "5" setting that I am using it on.

As interesting as it is, I'd like to see more features that would give it longer "replay value" (weather options/conditions?). I'm not sure what yet, but it lacks a little of the "fun factor" (fire torpedoes or missles on sub?).

Regardless of the above, it is enoyable to play with, and the video gives you a very good idea of what you are buying. If you like what you see in the intro video, you will like the experience.
