2/10 Pretty Rubbish quality
No option to use locomotion so movement is utterly rubbish, you just teleport around like an idiot, which really breaks immersion. Graphics are good. Clipping and object interaction is all over the place. This doesn't feel like a thing I should have paid for.
If someone told me it was the work of a teenager, spending his free time on his computer putting a game together as the early efforts to start a career in game development, then I could at least respect his ambition.
But in the context of a fledgling VR market with genuinely good quality titles thin on the ground, I can't review this game except as the serious gamer I am.
This game is appalling. The plot is completely detached from the game, literally the plot could be anything and it would still "fit" this extremely basic piece of work. The game world is sparse, graphics are basic, game mechanics are basic, any logic to the puzzles is basic to non-existent.
This will be a vague, scratchy review. I had played through this many months ago, and beat the episode, but it has been some time since then, and when I made the video, the game seemed slightly updated, but it glitched, and I could not complete it or show you the cool scene. That's more or less is the gist of my review. This game is a decent experience, maybe even a bit spooky, but the choreography is bad, and the game is a big buggy, so you might get frustrated and lose the vibe, or worse: have to restart it because something screwed up and you lost the key through the floor. The puzzle-age isn't that great either. It's basically pixel hunting. Look inside the vase in the office scene, and behind the blank prior to that in the shed scene. It equally sucks to have to quit the game to find the spoilers because they hide stuff to make you use up your 2 hour refund window. The item you need is prolly in the corner, which isn't really a puzzle. Well worth the price, for sure. A gem if on sale or in a bundle. Overall, it compares well to Trespass Episode 1, which is another similar and buggy experience, but here, you are not being ripped off. There is no lady in this VR game though, just these giant eyeballs.

I found this game really aggravating. It's like a demo for VR that's really in love with picking up books and soda cans. The play is one pixel-hunt after another, and your reward for finding the pixel is a jump scare. The story is a cliche, the sounds and music are very primitive (free downloads, I think) and objects, including critical objects, can clip through floors and walls and get stuck.
Have you ever wanted to try and find the marble in the oatmeal, while dodgeballs rain down on your head? This game has that experience, for some reason.
An hour of gameplay, if you can plow through the frustration.
Play for free or maybe for a dollar, if you have literally nothing else to do. Definitely not worth $7.
Very well done. Had a few jump scares and the atmosphere left me unsettled. I'm very curious about the next few installments and I'm looking forward to playing them
That being said...Don't play this game when you are at home alone, at night and with most of the lights off. Especially don't play this game if your husband comes home unexpectedly and thinks the best way to get your attention is to lightly touch your shoulder. When you didn't hear him come home because you had headphones in.
I'm pretty sure he didn't scare me to death but I'm not positive yet.
Great experience, very creepy. Works well with the Oculus. Looking forward to the next act!
Do not buy this game. Way too buggy. Can't get past the first house, because items keep disappearing or i can't pick them up. Must move them with other stuff and sometimes FINALLY i am able to pick the required item up again.
I'm sure a lot of time went into creating this game, but unfortunately I simply can't recommend it. It can be buggy sometimes and the puzzles are just meh..not to mention the way it looks.
Marlene is a VR horror experience you have to try if you are into these kind of games. You know ;) the ones that give you goosebumps and make you feel like there is someone behind you D:
Im not a man of many words so if you want to see for yourself if this game is something for you, check out my VOD of it below. But yeah, a thumbs up from me here, looking forward to new episodes of this, hopefully coming soon.
Oh and the way I managed to get a certain item in this game has now been fixed ;D so good luck finding out the way to get it ;)

I have played this several times but only get stuck in the first building. Very frustrating with no obvious way to advance in the game. No sense of what the game is about and what I am trying to accomplish. This is frustarting and just get stuck in a couple of rooms with no way out. That is nad enough but again no flow here just a couple of spooky dudes and scence. They do not make anysense - is there a story? is there a game? is this a 5 minute walk around to get stuck in a building?
Great spooky story and head scratching puzzle game.
Great game BUT experiencing stutter in the oprning garden scene and a few other places, hope this gets fixed !! Running gtx980 dragon pro...
Great Concept. Issues with gas room keypad and was unable to continue the game. Restarted the game to make sure i was doing it right at the tutorial. No problem there. Shrugg. Looking forward to updates.
EDIT - Below is my original review. A small patch has come out which has sorted the dim light out at the beginning. I have now played a lot of the game and I previously said it was a 'good game' - I now think it's a 'very good game' for £8 - helpful developer as well!
"Good game, well made, thinking Man's psychological horror that you need to persevere with. What I mean by this is: at the beginning of the game, the first building (out house) is quite dark and the phone torch to view the game to do what needs doing is frustratingly not good enough (IMO needs wider beam) - once you're past that part things are easier and the game get's better. The game is not an action horror game more like a tense, suspense horror game that requires thought to move on - you feel rewarded once you sussed something out. My wife played the game and really got into it - she wanted to finish it which she nearly has - well we think she has as we've been playing the game for more than 3 hrs and we're still not at the end yet, the game is described as an 1 1/2 hour game - maybe we're just thick :) Aside from the odd gripe, the graphics for VR are good enough and no complaints about the audio. Maybe not for everyone but, if you like these sort of games you may well like this so I'll recommend on that basis!"
