What a slog. The story is pages upon pages of text. The hidden object scenes are extremely repetitive and a lot of the objects are obscured by other objects that are not removable. The bonus games are also boring and repetitive. The ending was mediocre. This is 3 and a half hours of my life that I wish I could get back. Rating: 1/10
small text and graphic!
Its an old game so nothing can fix that!
repeated areas and puzzles gets annoying real quick!
its about 3 to 4 hours long if steam allowed you to give a middle ground rating i do that game looks like its from the HOG era of 2000 when this was made in 2010 when you compare it to other 2010 HOGS this is a bit of a joke it was okay tho
i liked finding things and the story. I do not like being timed. this game is fun.
The story is pretty run of the mill and told entirely through long text dumps and pictures. The minigames felt like they were from the 90s, I was shocked that this was made close to 2010. I was going to say it's very good for its time, but I can't even say that anymore. There is a lot of repetition in the rooms and sometimes they'll ask you to find the exact same thing so if you're going to marathon playing this like I was for a bit, it gets boring really fast. I thought I would go through and finish, but seeing that some people put 5 hours into it... that's more than I want to give to this game.
You're in a haunted hotel. You're solving the same puzzles and hidden objects for floor after floor. They get a little harder, but not hard enough to justify anything. I'm hoping one of the newer installments will have more to offer.
4/10 Not a bad hidden object game but dated and nothing that stands out.
After finding a liking for hidden object games while playing though the Sherlock Holmes games I decided to buy the Haunted Hotel series and give them a go in order.
A this is the first I expected it to be a bit rough but first thing, no problems getting this running on Windows 11. No crashes no other issues.
The story is pretty interesting and created a bit of a mystery that I wanted to see through to the end. It is told in a series of sketches with text next to them. No voice acting but not a bad way to tell the story. But I admit by the end I was ready for it to be over.
The main hidden object portion was ok. As fairly new to this genre I think I prefer when objects appear in appropriate places e.g spanners etc in a garage. This was basically an image with random objects just dropped on top. I guess it makes it more of a challenge as you don't know if the frog you are looking for will be blended with the rug or the desk. They are timed but it is very generous.
The puzzles between were a mixed bunch. The jigsaw recreating a picture were my favourite as they were some nice watercolour pictures. The magnet puzzle, plucking letters as they go by wasn't too bad. I wasn't a fan of the match 3 game, but I don't like those anyway but to be honest several times they virtually played themselves with objects appearing and making lines without any input from me.
The game is a decent length for the price at 14 levels with multiple rooms in each.
I didn't have a bad time playing this but I've already played better and I expect the series to improve over time.
I think unless you have run out of other games, want to play all the series or absolutely love any hidden object game I would recommend choosing something else.
4/10
I'll cut to the chase, this is not unplayably horrible but there are way better HOG games out there. It was released in 2008 and feels like 1995. Low budget with a formula of 2-3 pages of text (the story) followed by 3-4 HOG scenes followed by 1-2 "mini games" and repeat this for 15 "levels" The text is poorly written with many grammatical errors, HOG scenes are basic and only superficially related to the plot, The mini games are totally unrelated to the plot and many are arcade/reflex style which most casual gamer's detest. Thankfully they are fairly easy and don't become frustrating. There's no spoken dialog and only a couple tracks of looping music/SFX which become quite repetitive. Took me about 5 hours to finish playing very casually. I didn't hate this game but I would recommend others to look for a better one.
it is completely fine for an old game. i hated the magnet minigame though.
not visual impairment friendly, and all the plot is in pages upon pages of text.
This game needed an editor, for the text in the game contained many grammatical and syntax errors. The story and plot was some what entertaining. It's an old style hidden object game but not done as well as Huntsville, Prime Suspects, Ravenhearst, or Madame Fate. Unless you're a die hard fan of the Haunted Hotel games, I'd skip this.
I remember buying this game at office depot when I was like 10, for anyone without nostalgia it's not that good of a game but its close to my heart nonetheless
This is an older hidden object game. It has a timer where you need to complete X rooms. This means finding most all of the objects in each room within a certain time. Each room has three bonus objects, silhouettes object finds, that add a minute to the timer. After finding the required number of objects (not all, usually all but 1 or 2), you complete several mini-games. Then, you move on to the next set of rooms. You are rewarded with a text story (instead of cutscenes like newer games have).
If you enjoy reading and HOG games, this is a nice addition. There is quite a bit of reading, so I stress the enjoy reading. I completed the game without hints in 5 hours. I found all of the bonus silhouette objects, and the timer was never an issue. The timer never went below 17 minutes for me. Since you don't have to find every object (except on the last level), hints were a non-issues. The rooms repeated frequently, so it's easy to get better at finding objects in that room. I don't remember them moving around or anything.
The mini games were fun enough. Match 3, a couple of easy dexterity games, solve a jigsaw, follow the sequence. All in all, an enjoyable match 3 game. It's older, so the objects aren't very crisp. Still, no hints required for me.
DO you like Your HOG's with a nigh on incomprehensible plot, plus minigames that appear to be there because someone went through the trouble of making them or leasing them and it would be a shame if it didn't make it into the game. Then boy do I have an HOG for you. I'm only glad that I played it because some of the puzzles had cat's in them. Which was the best part of the game. I'm.... I'm not joking actually. This is not a great game. This is not really a good game. I'm sorry. Sometime you swing for the fences and miss. The only saving grace is that the plot was supernatural as opposed to one of those HOG's with the "realistic plots" Ghosts did it makes some much more sense in games like these then Yea I always need to find 4 animal totems to go to the bathroom then fix the plumbing to flush the toilet. Which for some reason I put my keys in there as well. Supernatural reason for objects to be in a room is much better then yea I stapled a frog to the wall. What's it too you? I'm fairly certain I got this in a bundle. And I probably paid too much. To be fair the plot kinda resolves itself but but it is obtuse. Don't waste you money on this one. Maybe get it if your a fan of the series or a superfan of HOG's.
Mountains of text to read, very little gaming and very boring. I'm quite disappointed with this one.
Do not recommend. Low resolution graphics. Buggy. Feels like an 80's game.
