I love the sprites and this is a fun puzzle game where even the slightest error can cost you!
Warlock's Tower is a very tough puzzle game involving limited movements, enemies, switches and other concerns presented in a GameBoy-style of graphics and sounds. I recommend that you try for yourself to see if you like it, but I definitely recommend getting it. Even at full price. Don't expect a whopping story or new game plus, but its definitely very entertaining and good for your noggin. One caveat emptor: it is freaking tough and some of the later levels stumped me for a long while.
Great puzzle game with some real minfuck levels.
Jokes aside,this game is a real hidden gem and if you love puzzle games you should be playing this right now.
Some levels are the most challenging and creative stuff I ve senn in a long time.
GREAT puzzle game that deserves more praise.
I love this game, definitely recommend for puzzle fans. The levels get nice and difficult but never unfair. It's clear how each game element works - steps, gems, enemies, teleporting, conveyors, swapping, levers, pits etc. There's no undo button but you can drop a checkpoint flag, so you can explore or try different ideas without losing your level position. Solving the puzzles requires a nice mix of logical deduction for what the order must be and experimentation to try out different ideas.
The aesthetic is simple but fun and nostalgic. The focus is on the puzzles not the story, but there are a few NPCs to reach as well as your friend Jess and the wizard. He speaks in deliberately funny English, you can switch to standard English or Portuguese in the settings if you want but the silly version is charming. There's a nice little ending sequence if you make it that far too.
You know I like this game. You can see the thumbs up over there. You probably won't read much more than a number on an list. Just in case you do...
This game is quality. Every sound bleep and pixel is put there with love. The game has many language options, for example, two of note are Engrish and English. When making the game they found a lot of people didn't realize the engrish was on purpose and offered to help them localize the game, so they wrote a whole second script in more standard English just to make sure they didn't alienate anyone while keeping their jokes intact that speak to a very special time in gaming that was common in the early life of the gameboy.
Which, is what is most amazing. We have here a puzzle game that could have easily been made on the gameboy. It has a few more bells and whistles (Changing color palette being paramount, wider screen, a few other things) but it plays and acts and looks and is like some lost original gameboy game that was released back in the day for a run of only 300 copies found in a dusty attic.
I started playing it around eleven pm the night i found it. I finished the game sometime around 8am the next morning. I had tried to do it all myself, but a few puzzles had been too fiendish. However, thanks to the way some puzzles can be circumnavigated I had still completed the game. It lasted just long enough. I was delighted the entire way by the weird nonsensical references to games that as far as I know don't exist, and the pixel art that spoke to the beauty of the medium and the way tiny squares can express so very much. Every animation is done with love, the main characters playing with their hair or checking to make sure the letters in their bag are still okay. Hopping and skipping and being eaten by zombies. Every single animation is beautiful.
The game's a puzzle game, if you didn't get that already. An ever changing puzzle game. Oh, the basic rules stay the same but they keep changing just enough to make the puzzles continually interesting. It's a pathing puzzle game. Every puzzle only has a few very specific paths through the maze that will work and you have to find them. Using logic and the rules of the puzzle to... puzzle it out. Monsters chase you, keys need to be found, teleporters teleported through, and an evil warlock outwitted. Sometimes you're dealing with two characters and switching between them. Sometimes you're stumbling around in the dark.
You're always, always, solving fantastically designed puzzles on interesting boards in a classic way that would have fit so well between your hands in the late 80s. It's okay. I've been waiting 27 years to play this game, and it was worth the wait.
Simple to learn, hard to finish. Had fun figuring out all the puzzles. And I love the music!
Beautiful and addictive. Love it!
Solid little puzzler that'll appeal to fans of the original Game Boy and its graphical aesthetics. The controls are simple enough for anyone to jump in, and gameplay mechanics get changed up slowly, but steadily. Difficulty hasn't proven much of an obstacle yet (I'm at 30% iirc), but I'll admit that I've played a fair share of puzzlers so that definitely helps. Can't say much about the lifespan yet but at this kind of price point it's hardly a factor. Personally I'm a big fan of games like Mole Mania and Catrap, so this is right up my alley. Good puzzle games make the most out of simple control schemes, and since you mostly only need to use the arrow keys for Warlock's Tower I'd say mission accomplished!
I've really been enjoying this game. It's a charming and fun puzzle game with pretty pixel art and a strong color palette to go with it. The puzzles become challenging later on in the game, so prepare yourself.
Definitely worth the price.
spend half an hour trying to get the twitch thing to work. No solutions showed up in game, not even once. Literally the whole reason I bought it was for streaming.
Awesome game! I have been playing since alpha. Really looking forward to finish it now that is released. It really delivers what it promises.
First, you feel dumb af because you can't complete a maze, and then you feel smart af because you actually made it.
+ Excelent brain exercise, no matter your age;
+ Very rewarding to finish each level;
+ Excelent 8-bit music from a well-know music artist.
If you are into puzzles, this is a must have. I know because I am.
