Описание

YANKAI'S TRIANGLE is a love letter to TRIANGLES. A puzzling puzzle game about the beauty and joy of infinitely tapping on TRIANGLES for some reason.

With an elegant innovative revolutionary TRIANGLE-first approach to interface, YANKAI'S TRIANGLE lets you tap on TRIANGLES to spin them and stuff. Colors play a part in gameplay too I think. Bring TRIANGLES to a forgotten TRIANGLE, and uncover a TRIANGLE hidden deep beneath the YANKAI.

  • Pretty Fun Gameplay (it's all right)
  • No Filler - A Veritable Infinity of Meticulously Definitely Handcrafted TRIANGLES
  • Over 1.74 x 10^26 Possible Levels (all definitely handcrafted)
  • Color
  • An Inscrutable Three-Pronged Scoring System
  • A 'Happy Sounds' Option (woohoo!)
  • A 'Colorblind' Option if You Are Colorblind (it's not great tbh)
  • A Cool Film Grain Effect
  • A Cool Tiled TRIANGLE Background Effect
  • Also there are Achievements

TERRIBLE FILM GRAIN EFFECT. Headache inducing, look closely at trailer to see it, but gets way worse on more colorful levels. The music in the trailer is not in the game, Just strange sound effects. Actually a fun and simple puzzle game, but unplayable with the grain effect that cannot be taken off.

The constant "cool" film grain effect that cannot be turned off is seriously annoying and distracting. And the lack of music, in the place of which is strange skittering noises, rain, fractions of radio transmissions, and ethereal noises, is unsettling. I endure it only by replacing the music files in the game's assets with my own. Further, the game isn't capable of running in high-res, so even 1280*800 is painful to use, as you're looking at pixellated triangles most of the time. Also, the film grain is pixellated, so it just looks like this creepy puzzle game with random noises played on an old security monitor, an idea which, when you think of it, makes it even more unpleasant.
But if you can get past all of that (I admit the sound can be turned off,) be my guest.

A relaxing, not too difficult puzzle game that's worth its price. Possibly procedurally generated? Not 100% sure; I stopped when I got the last achievement, as no end looked in sight. A good time nonetheless.

I'm not trying to be ironically on the nose by saying this: This game is about how to look at triangles. Once you've figured it out most levels are pretty much the same. The store page is it's own best review. The game is okay. The worst part about the game, as many have mentioned, is the visual grain effect. If the game just had flat colors I may consider playing this to the perscribed 3^5 power levels but instead I stopped at 3^3 and am going to call it there. I like the game but I just REALLY don't like looking at it.

Its the creepypasta puzzle game that keeps on going.

Not really. I mean the creepypasta part.

Why does this thing chitter and grow eyes???

Okay so, it's a neat little game. Might not be quite worth 6 dollars. The grain effect is really distracting and stops the game from being a relaxing puzzle game. It's still a neat concept, but it's really a headache inducer with the grain effect. if I could just, you know, turn the grain effect off, that would really help.

TL;DR: Have you played Kenny Sun's earlier game Circa Infinity? If no, play that instead. If yes, avoid this disappointing and much worse game. I refunded this game even though I had only paid $2 for it on sale.

Gameplay overview

Yankai's Triangle is an abstract puzzle game. The core mechanic is to rotate 4 triangles to form a larger triangle. One of the 4 triangles is in the center, and your goal is to match up the patterns of its sides with the 3 surrounding triangles.
Most puzzles in the game consist of multiple "levels" of this mechanic. The larger triangle you form at one level is used as the center triangle of the next level.

Pros

* The game has varying mechanics to several puzzles the game introduces some new stuff to keep things fresh

Cons

What's frustrating about some of the below Cons is that they are repeats from Circa. I've noted those.

* The puzzles are tedious.
As mentioned earlier, most puzzles have several "levels". If you discover a problem at a higher level, you might have to redo the puzzle from the beginning, re-rotating all the triangles you had previously touched.

* The levels are randomly generated, which causes several problems:
- You can't replay them.
On the one hand, the game keeps a running "score" of how you've done. On the other, you can't actually go back and see how you could've more optimally played an earlier level.
- Progression between puzzles is erratic.
As another reviewer noted, the game may introduce a new mechanic and then not use it for several more levels.

* Sometimes the game decides that the triangle sides don't match even though they do! It forces you to pointlessly rotate the triangle to a different, identical match.

* Lots of the UI is unexplained. Examples:
- Various icons in Settings
- The numbers in the upper left of the screen. The game description literally says "An Inscrutable Three-Pronged Scoring System". In other words, the dev knew it wasn't clear and didn't care to fix it.
Circa had similar issues, whose start screen is a mess of nonsense icons and no text.

* The game has lots of ugly, garish color palettes that are physically painful to look at.
This same problem was in Circa.

* How you go back to the Start screen and Quit the game is awful.
The game doesn't explain how to go to the Start screen or to Quit the game. You have to guess.
One way to return to the Start screen is to hold down Escape for a short time. If you hold it down a bit longer, the game will Quit. It's easy to accidentally Quit the game when you only wanted to go to Start. I had this happen to me.

* Keyboard controls are broken on the Settings screen.
On the Start screen, you can press A (ASDW) to go to Settings. But then, the keyboard controls respond as if you're still on the Start screen!

Conclusion

Yankai is an ugly, unpolished, unfun mess. I played it for just 45 minutes and discovered numerous issues. The dev even recognized some of these problems but chose not to fix them. It's more of an unfortunate tech demo than an actual finished game.

in yankai's triangle you have to rotate triangles to match all the patterns on every side and combine every triangle on the level into one, and do it until your hands fall off, as it's practically endless. or until you go blind because it's way too colorful for its own good and the grain filter can't be turned off. or until you go deaf because the audio is terrible, no music, just various annoying noises.

controls are mostly fine, left click rotates in one direction, right click in the other, and you can zoom in and out to see more layers with a right click as well. the one thing I found odd is having to hold esc or the mouse button at the top of the screen to bring up the menu, and do the same again to exit the game.

there are volume and color settings, windowed mode, and switching between two types of audio, one worse than the other. the thud sound for triangles matching up is kinda satisfying though. and while the steam overlay works, taking screenshots doesn't, nor can you go back to replay earlier levels, though god knows why you'd want to.

while the core mechanic is simple, it could've been enough to carry the game, but the patterns are just too psychedelic and bigger levels can get tedious, going back and forth between layers until you find the right combination. I picked it up at 67% off and still don't think it was worth it.

It's weird, it's fun, it teaches you without words. The core matching mechanic is satisfying and the timer/move counters make it so you can play for speed, or smarts, or both. It got way more fun (and way less frustrating to control) when I noticed that the scroll wheel can be used to zoom in and out. The difficulty curve is frankly bizarre though, it introduces a new mechanic with a puzzle, then proceeds to not use that mechanic for a dozen levels or so. If the game was less linear, or at least the level order was more well thought out, it'd be really incredible.

Unfortunately too psychedelic to properly focus on how to piece the triangles together. As a result, if you get stuck on a puzzle, you are stuck forever.

Great little casual puzzle game.

The puzzles are randomly generated (with a total of 1.74 x 10^26 possible levels), but they're still really fun and feel really well designed. The gameplay at the start is pretty easy to understand and new mechanics are added regularly to keep it fresh and make it more and more complicated as you progress.

The artstyle and sound design isn't for everyone, with the weird music and visual noise, but I personnally really liked it! It has some kind of strange creepy vibe that makes it very different from other casual puzzle games.

Overall I really enjoyed this game. It isn't too complicated, but it also doesn't hold your hand, you have to figure out the new mechanics by yourself. It's also infinite, the levels aren't too long, and getting in the game is pretty quick, so even after getting all the achievements it's still a fun game that you can launch once in a while to play for a couple of minutes.

There is a lot of visual noise here, and the background music is honestly really distracting on some levels. But if you're able to get past some flaws, the game itself is a pretty solid spacial puzzler that's worth the cost of admission (especially if you get it on sale like I did). While the choice in music is questionable, the makers of this game definitely know what they're doing when it comes to sound design, because by adding some grinding and satisfying thuds, they made clicking on a bunch of triangles oddly appealing to do.

Just a heads up though, the background music in the game sounds NOTHING like what they put in the trailer.

EDIT: Never mind. I made it to around level 60, and the sensory assault just becomes way to much to handle.

YANKAI’S TRIANGLE is like drinking your favorite cold beverage on a nice, sunny day. It’s refreshing.

It’s like chilling out with a couple buds while your favorite tunes play quietly in the background. It’s relaxing.

It’s like having a summer fling. Satisfying and you never want it to end.

It evokes the same feeling you get from watching fireworks explode right in front of your eyes. It’s beautiful and, somehow, oddly compelling.

It’s all these things and more.

Though, at its core, it’s a delightful, little puzzle game that’s not too demanding on your thought particles. Yet, it still packs enough bite to entertain. Much like your favorite summer blockbuster.

YANKAI’S TRIANGLE is about triangles. You rotate them until they eventually click. I never knew that this could be as emotional as it is. Yet, here I am getting depressed at a bunch of candy-colored, rotating triangles.

It’s a metaphor for life, essentially. You’re going to have to rotate through things until something eventually clicks. Eventually, that rotation will get interrupted; it’ll get more difficult and things won’t click as easily. You’ll keep rotating though because you’re brave. You continue rotating until it clicks so you can grow and expand. And you won’t stop this cycle until the end comes; but when does it end? And where? And what happens when it does? Easy, you start the game over again because it’s just that good.

Wow. This is a very unique game. You get exactly what you see. I'm actually not too big on puzzle games. this one is probably the most expensive one I've bought but it's definitely worth it. Very relaxing, very pretty, and this game seems to be pretty damn long.
Personally, I don't see a problem with the film grain or sound. I think it adds to the eerie aura the game gives off.

I enjoy the mechanics of this game, but the visual noise is appalling and I'm not sure I can play more of it. The flickering and film grain and colors shifting and moving background - UGH. Eye-searing and headache-inducing visual overload.

I wish there were an option to turn off all visual effects; if there were, this might be my new favorite relaxing puzzle game. Since there isn't... I don't know how much I'll be able to play it. I definitely regret spending money on it.

A welcome break from all the headshots, gore and murder that typically make up my day-to-day gaming with a nice chilled load of triangles and a simple soundtrack that helps really get you in the mood for turning triangles.

Wouldn't recommend if you don't like triangles.

If you've ever wanted to spin triangles, you've come to the right game. It has all the triangles and you can spin all of them.

It's strangely addicting, although I'm not sure the game has a definite end. What's the point of the counters if it never ends?

Interesting concept for a puzzle game. For $3 not bad. If the achievements are to believed there are a lot of puzzles, and for me personally they started to get challenging around level 20 or so.

From the About
"A Cool Film Grain Effect" - This is the worst part about this game, film grain is a dreadful effect.

Other than that, the store page is pretty accurate as to what the game is; you rotate triangles until colours match & you make bigger triangles.
It has both ominous & happy soundtracks & it gradually gets more complex as more triangles need building upon triangles which might require you to backtrack & untriangle triangles you've made into triangles before in order to combine the triangles into different triangles to make the correct triangles later on.
There are plenty of triangles, if you're into that.

Also points for Store Page honesty:
"A 'Colorblind' Option if You Are Colorblind (it's not great tbh)", I agree, borderline unplayable as it doesn't replace the colours with a range of colours that colorblind people can see properly, it replaces them with shapes which are too similar & it plays atrociously, if that was the main mode I would have returned it.

"Pretty Fun Gameplay (it's all right)", that's this review in a nutshell; this isn't Tumblestone or Hook, 2 of my favourite puzzle games ever but it's okay.

If you aren't colourblind, it's a pretty okay time.
