Graphics are subpar and very glitchy. The game requires a lot of ram though it's very simple and the graphics equally simple. It barely runs on my pc that has 8gb ram, dedicated graphics.
You can get better (and less taxing) graphical chess engines for absolutely free. This graphical chess game is not worth half the money it's listed for, and I wouldn't play it if it were free.
The game works and offers 4 AI levels and offline multiplayer. I purchased this during the Steam Summer Sale because independent game developers take risks and sometimes produce fun low-cost games.
This really is abysmal. The standard for chess played by a PC is pitiful. There are no features like in some other chess games that make it more interesting to compensate for the lack of the basics of any good chess program. I have been playing chess for nearly 40 years now and this sort of standard has no appeal whatsover.

I got this on sale at 70% off. It is just a very simple chess game that works. If you don't have a Chess game then this is worth it. I didn't and haven't played Chess on the computer since Yahoo chat was popular 18 years ago. I can't compare this to anything up to date. If you want to play against a computer in a fast game than Chess Knight 2 does it. By fast, I mean easy to understand, launch and play your 1st game without really much to learn about the software. You can't play a serious game of chess with non standard pieces. You think about which pieces is what while thinking about the best moves. I knew this before I got it. That is just a sales gimmick. It does have the standard pieces in 3D and that is why I brought it. Move the king 2 to the right and it castles. You can promote your pawn to queen automatically by making it to the last row. Just move the piece in a legal way and it does what it is suppose to do. The game has very few options. 4 levels, so far just played the 1st two. There is a music on/off and an undo button, new game and menu button. A info button to tell you about each piece. As far as multiplayer, It just doesn't seems to have that option. There is a game option to take turns on the same PC using the mouse. So I would say that is the local multiplayer. I do not see a way to host a game or join any friends. I would have to say it does not have Multiplayer or split screen at this point. It still may be in the works since it is advertised to have it. It doesn't have any instructions. The buttons have icon pictures on them and the pictures on the buttons make sense. I think the game might have been made by programmers that speak another language. I wish there was a button to see the computers last move. It moves fast and sometimes I miss it.
For an easy game just launch and play. The game is around 86 Mbs. So it's a fast download and a quick launching game.
My comments on the Negative reviews
1. Game only has 3 chess sets. IMO The classic Staunton pieces are the best way to play a serious game.
2. The pieces are hard to see? You just have to hold the right mouse button in and you can move the camera around to see from any angle.
3. The credits on the spinning chess board are hard to read. I don't see how that affects the game play?
4. You can't play as black. You can! You just have to hit the new game button again if you don't want to play white.
5. The background is obnoxious. I don't mind it and don't find it distracting. It's not very fancy and some would call it to basic or lazy. To much detail could make it distracting. I'd would have likied to see up to date renderings. This is a new PC game after all. it's nicer then looking at a plain table. Art is relative and you can't please everyone, you have to walk that line. I agree another background or two would be nice but it's not a deal breaker
6. Not liking the background music. Maybe it isn't any good? I wouldn't know. I like to listen to my own mp3s on my desktop mp3 player. I'd listen to my own music if I had a friend over. So, I keep their music muted.
