I am a Quest 2 + AirLink/QuestLink over dedicated wifi SteamVR user in 2023. My playspace is about 3ft by 6ft.
Peaceful and simple, the price of $3 is fair for this title. The minigames are simple and can be a little finnicky to learn to control. The setting is calming and sweet. There is only teleportation movement.
One critique I have is the angle that the bow and katana are picked up at with the Quest 2 controllers. You can change the angle of your grip on the random sticks you can pick up in the game, but not on the weapons. The angle you are forced to hold the katanas and the bow at feel super bizarre and unnatural to the angle your wrist will be at in real life. I suggest a 5ft by 5ft playspace. I often had a challenge trying to angle myself to not get my guardian warning popping up on screen while moving the weapons in the minigames.
The location in game is visually simple but very soothing. The audio and gameplay modes do not feel complex, but I think it actually could have value for someone into this aesthetic as a virtual 'cool down and sit' room. The interactable candles and drums are cool, but they're not responsive enough to be used as a seamless experience.
It's alright for $3. I won't be refunding but I am not sure how much I will play either. I think kids who didn't need direction beyond 'here is a minigame in a fun place' might enjoy it in particular.
Angle setting isn't working. 180deg or -180deg has no effect. Blade is at a weird angle. So is the bow. Please fix, otherwise, it's an ok game to practice on ur skill.
A variety of fun and satisfying minigames. There are about 7 of them right now, and I've been immersed in just the first 2 for now. The Katana is a delight! They physics of the game is great. It's better than Fruit Ninja because the Katana slicing is more accurate in slicing with the blade.
Sort of fun. I would say it isn't worth this price, so pick it up on sale (as I did).
TBH, there are so many better VR games out there I lost interest quickly.
Between the atrocious loading time at the start and the actions not registering. I can't say I recommend this. I tried to like but I just can't. Visually it looks beautiful but the game play is just not there. Maybe if they update it tweaking some things around I'll try again but for now. This isn't it.
Bought a Oculus Quest 2 and a Oculus link cable. The game doesn't work using that VR headset. However, it does work with my Oculus Rift. :( Please fix! I like this simple meditative archery game rather then the more hectic ones. Other VR games do work via Oculus Quest 2 headset. Thanks!
What happens is the game has the load screen. It will completely load up and the music will play but it will stay stuck on the load screen.

This is a very fun game and I really enjoy playing it. It is kind of like a workout, but it is a fun workout that I would gladly do any day. My complaints would mostly be about the games performance. I have the settings set to performance and the game still freezes and jitters a lot. When I am doing the katana portion of the game I see my blade constantly going through items and items bouncing off of the blade. I would assume this is because of the game freezing and thinking I didn't swing fast enough or didn't swing at all. The smoke bombs on the dodge and slice game also cause my games performance to drop. I feel that those smoke bombs happen to frequently and/or move to fast to react to for me. The biggest problem with the sword is how nonconsistent it is with me. Whether it be the precision slice, speed slice, or dodge and slice I always see that there is a problem with the sword trying to cut things. The Bow side of the game is great. I find it difficult to hit some things sometimes but overall I don't really see any problem with it. Overall this game is very fun and I would recommend it to anyone. I do hope that the performance issues get resolved in the future as it makes part of the game less enjoyable to play when it drops in performance.
[updated TLDR below]
Played on Index at 120Hz with 1080ti and 100% SS: A smooth experience. I didn't have any issues with the Index controllers. The A button works fine. Grip is used for grab, though trigger is used for grabbing an arrow from your back/quiver.
There is plenty of gorgeous scenery and atmosphere. Even if the paths between the islands are straightforward, there's actually a bit of interactivity lying around to play with. It's worth it to look around and explore beyond the main activities and take in the view. The hidden credits was a nice surprise.
At the outset, you have two skills to master through training missions: kyudo (archery) and the katana. As you progress you unlock more trials and higher difficulties along with some minigames. I only unlocked the ring toss (chakrams) minigame so far. The taiko rhythm featured on the store page is also a minigame but I haven't unlocked it yet. You have to clear certain trials/difficulties to get them I think.
There's a few trials within the two main skills, Kyudo and Katana.
Kyudo has 3 mini trials. Memory pair matching: shoot the matching pairs from memory. Bullseye target scoring: a typical archery target arcade. And skeet shooting: shoot flying chickens. There's even a triathalon for practicing all three back-to-back. Katana also has 3 mini trials which are a bit more interesting. Speed slicing: slice all the targets quickly. Tameshigiri: target test cutting, where you accurately cut a target along given patterns. And katana dodge: slice the correct targets while avoiding smoke bombs and spiky things.
Some of the modes can become pretty intense, especially the katana dodge. You will want some decent playspace so you don't hit things swinging your arms around or dodging.
While the game is singleplayer only, there's global leaderboards for scoring so there's a bit of competitive edge for those who want it.
The game only supports teleport movement and snap turning. This didn't bother me.
The devs are quick to respond via their Discord for any questions/issues that players encounter (of which I've had a couple).
TLDR: Sky Sanctuary is a fun casual experience focused on honing your Kyudo and Katana skills. It has excellent visual presentation based on a Zen-like atmosphere and a variety of trials and unlockable minigames to keep you engaged. Fun for a quick pick up and/or until you all unlock the minigames. Ideal for a completionist/high score chase/achievement hunt. A great addition to one's VR library
Editing as the Developers released a fix. Cute game, can't wait to get some playtime.!
Does not work on my Rift S. It just sits at "waiting" and tries to load while you can see the game on the monitor and hear sounds.
NOT playable if you dont have an A button..... i could´t even get to the intro......
do you guys have a guide on unlocking taiko :(
This game is actually really really cool! Came into it not expecting much, AU$11 game that I hadn't heard of, but it's great. Basically a collection of minigames. The archery and katana modes are fun and easily replayable, gives a little bit of cardio exercise too. Haven't found how to unlock the drum game yet but looking forward to it. Recommend!
I love the tranquility of this game, and the small selection of items still give a fun time, in or out of minigames.
The sword minigame doesn't work for me, but the training's still rather fun.
The Archery does work, and it's great! certainly gives me some exercise I need.
It's great already, so I can't wait to see how it's build upon!
This game is a lot of fun, i am changing my rating now to reflect a positive rating as the developers are working hard to fix my issues. I haven't had much time to see if the issues were resolved, but i'll be able to check in on it in the new firmware update which I hope to fully enjoy this game :)
I can't wait to see more expansion to this games world!
relaxing and fun game i play between studying.
there are two minigames.
one with a sword where you cut the indicated segment at the indicated angle.
-for the most part it feels accurate and skill based.
-unfortunatley there is a glitch with upward left to right strikes that doesnt register as a proper swipe very often.
-it takes way to many points to unlock the next mode (150'000) which is as much as it sounds like
The seccond minigame is a multitude of archery minigames
they get old quick but the entire game is based around leaderboards so that gives it a lot of replay value.
Extra Notes
-its fun to fidget around with the (around 10) items you can find
-it makes me a little frustrated that the point is to get better than others but the top 3 places are always taken by clear
exploiters.
-the map is beautiful. i actually prefer to walk (teleport around) to the minigames rather than warp
-i often find myself rebooting the game because i cant interact with anything
-often i find myself loading in without hands models
What i want to see:
-some implementation of PVP i know your gimic is being relaxing but do consider.
(maybe an arena wher players shoot arrows at each other and try to dodge)
(maybe an arena where you block with sword and throw throwing stars)
-a minigame with the throwing stars
-if you can make models of logs to chop why not people shaped bags or whatever
OVERALL i think its FINE. It is early access after all and i seems to have a lot of potential. Ill give it a thumbs up, but if its a another early access that stagnates and they never add anything else , my review may change. At its current state, Unless you really want a new game or, you've got money burning a hole in your pocket maybe wait for a sale.
6.5/10
(where 5 is an average vr game)
it's pretty neat and a good price.
As an Archer I have hunted for a VR game that let me pratice my real life skill without forcing me to jump around like a madman getting tangled in my headset cord. Sky Sanctuary is the best Archery game to date it will give you a workout without having to fight with your cables. It looks good and phisics are well done the viriaty of games is good and will keep you entertaned the 2 main parts are archery skill and Katana skill. If you like Archery and or sword play this is just what you want! its not another green goblin killing game it all about skill and practice it will give your body and mind a workout!
Tight little package with Dev promises to grow even larger expanding out to other Islands in the future with even more activities. At the moment you can move anywhere on the main Island - play around with fireworks and taiko drums, sit under Cherry Blossom trees admiring the gorgeous weather, put out some candles, throw some shuriken and smoke bombs - basically just explore and fool around in a large area. The main focus at the moment is the two available activities of blade slicing and archery. Both feel very solid at this point. I kind of see this as an oriental themed version of The Lab - with more themed activities and locations being added overtime. Hopefully this will continue to grow into as addictive an experience as The Lab was :)
Fun game! Archery was particularly fun.
Edited August 3, 2020: After all that time spent updating this game, it doesn't support the Index, which makes it no longer usable for me. Can't get past the tutorial. Don't buy if you have an Index.
Got a little time in on this game. The graphics are quite nice, and I enjoyed setting off the fireworks. It's a fun game I can get into for ten minutes or an hour.
As of now, there are some problems. Some are minor. Some juddering here and there. Nothing too bad, but it was annoying. Also, the robot talking between games (like when you finish with the katana and just want to start another round) takes too long. Some of the physics (especially with the katana) seem a little off. It knocks wood down when it should be cutting.
But the biggest thing for me that will keep me from playing this is that the grip buttons are used to pick up and drop weapons. Which means while in the middle of shooting the bow and arrow, it could suddenly change hands. This happened frequently. Go to draw an arrow and I'm suddenly holding the bow in my right hand instead of my left. It completely made it difficult to play and frustrated the heck out of me. If the devs fix this, I think it would make the game a lot better.
Overall, I'd recommend the game, but it's Early Access, so there are some issues that I hope to see improved over time.
