About the Game
The star grants you the shining dreamThe Heaven sends a Devil’s army to the ground, commanding them to destroy the corrupted city. It was the wandering knight who saved the city that was on verge of destruction. On one night, with the star so bright in the sky, the knight was guided outside by a mysterious voice. The voice that called to the knight was known as the God of a Star, and the God bestowed a pure girl in his care. From then on, the wandering knight decides to settle down in the city, and start a new life as a father of the girl.

「Princess Maker 2 Refine」is a life simulation game which you play as a father of a girl, who had descended from the star. You have 8 years to raise your daughter from age 10 to 18 – your daughter will grow into her adulthood through various experiences. The future awaits for her depending on your choices. This is a child labor and tiger parenting simulator that from my understanding, had a similar impact in Asia to what The Sims 1 had in the West. A lot of girls in the 90s to early 2000 apparently played this at some point through their childhood. The game is actually really fun, with a lot of replayability and its quite difficult. It definitely requires deep understanding of mechanics and a bit of luck to really master and the first playthroughs will most likely give you one of the bad endings, parenting is hard.
You the player control one of the girls parents and you then together with a parenting advicer, have to guide this young girl through her life and try to steer her in the correct path to success. The best ending results in her becoming a princess. Worst ending is probably for her to end up in prostitution. The hard part about this, is that this young girl (your daughter) is also the sole provider for the family and have to earn money to survive, so you will have to balance work, school and freetime carefully.
I only just learned about this game from my girlfriend and she has been playing it nonstop the last few days on her steamdeck, which it runs smoothly on. Game is surely addictive.
Translation is a little wonky but fun overall
My daughter keeps turning into a delinquent gang leader and gets arrested for highway robberies.
Don't get this game if you're expecting to actually learn how to play the game. You're given a vague backstory and then tossed in. I went in knowing the translation wasn't great but the lack of tutorial AND the bad translation means figuring out everything feels like a lost cause. I played for half an hour before I cracked and refunded it. I shouldn't have to go online to find someone else's guide to figure out what all of the stats mean, what's important to keep an eye on, what to prioritize, how classes work, etc. No thank you!!

In many ways the DOS version is better especially in terms of translation. However, the steam achievements make it quite addicting, and it still is the same game underneath it all.

This game make me realize that I am a terrible Dad.
You're the hero and demon slayer. Raise your daughter to be one too. 8 years of praying and throwing hay at the farm is the only way to have fun with this game, otherwise you'll get drowned with stress, illness and delinquency. Strong body and strong mind begets strong person.
Still the best Princess Maker. Still can't get the Lumberjack ending.
Refine has 162 achievements rather than ReGeneration's 19.
Degenerate game, I admire the censorship the franchise is going through, but still.
