skiing, players try their best to avoid obstacles including dynamic ones to ski as far as they can and speed also plays an import role in your final score.
You can sit down to play the game if you feel a bit sick.

Is that really it? Just one track, one time of day, with mostly repeating obstacles? I'd really rather play Alpine Ski VR. Half the price, real slalom challenges, different tracks and one set at sunset. I know there could be a really good VR skiing experience, neither of these are it, but this feels like so little for the money.
I tried to play the game. Keyword "tried" I tried to grab the Poles. I did as the game told me to by pushing the trigger. I then started to push every button and it didn't do anything. After trying for 5 minutes I eventually got it to work after doing the same thing over and over again. And the game itself was okay its just the fact its so buggy that you cant even start the game properly. I only got the game to work like 3 times. The game would be fine but its just too buggy to be worth it
This is a perfect example for a game that doesn't LOOK like it's a good game, yet i see myself and friends returning to it again and again because it's fun to play. The regular price is maybe a bit high, but if you get it on sale i don't think you'll regret it.
This is probably the most realistic ski simulator on VR, but I couldn't play it longer than 5 minutes. I got too nauseous. I tried to deal with it, but eventually the nausea got really bad. If you don't get nauseated on VR, it's not bad for the small price. Unfortunately, I can't play it anymore.
A buggy mess, at least on the Oculus. Don't bother.
For perhaps the only decent skiing game that's currently out, download the environment for the SteamVR Home called "downhill skiing". It's also free, unlike this one I'm reviewing.
I have been skiing for 25 years. This game gives me flashbacks of close calls from my youth when I would do jumps too big for me. The landings tell my brain to expect pressure on my knees so I overcompensate and neigh fall over- its a blast. All the fun of big jumps minus the pain. Its a VR favorite of all my skiier friends too.
Played this on the Oculus Rift with Touch controllers
So if you read the community hub, you will read how this game does NOT work on the Oculus Rift. That is mostly true. However, I can get this game to work on the Oculus Rift with Touch controllers. However, I have no idea exactly why it works sometimes and not other times.
Here is what I have figured out: I don't think the game will work at all if you start the game from Steam VR. The game will not launch if you launch from the option Oculus Rift mode. However, it says something about installing. Then you can try launching the game directly from the Oculus Home page.
When you do so, it will still be the steam version. This is where it gets tricky. To get the game to start, you have to keep trying to grab the ski poles by pressing trigger. Sometimes, they will be very easy to grab and in fact, sometimes I grab them on the very first try. However, sometimes it never works despite how many times you press trigger to grab. Even if it doesn't work, keep trying. Spend a good 60 seconds trying to do so. If it fails, just exit game and relaunch. You may even want to play another game.
For whatever reason, sometimes they are easy to grab after the first or a few tries. Sometimes it takes like 20-50 tries. Sometimes it never works.
If you're willing to put up with the above, the game will run fine on the Oculus Rift with Touch controllers. It's very fun to play. Keep in mind, it's really just an endless runner with obstacles and ramps. The swinging motion of your arms with the touch controllers is just an immersion thing, but the physics are way off on the skis poles. You can go faster if you time your swings correctly.
Sill, I had fun. I would highly recommend this game if it worked properly. But it doesn't work properly. I got it on sale for $6.99. Not sure if it's worth the trouble, but I'll keep it. If you're willing to be persistent, you may want to get this too.
Rating 5/10 Dev is likely never to fix above problems, buy at your own risk for the Oculus Rift with Touch
I like this game a lot; it's very fun, and you can play it for quite some time without getting bored.
Quite difficult, I've actually never made it to the end. Not for those without VR legs! It's very fast paced.
I don't remember what price I bought it for, but be aware beforehand that there is VERY little content.
You just ski in a little track, avoiding trees, fences, deer, and boulders. But that's enough to be fun.
I'd like more slopes, more variety, but I don't see that happening.
For the game in its current state, I'm happy with what I've got. A challenging game that is quite unique, but quite bland feature-wise.
Also the music is dreadful. Open Spotify.
7/10
Pros:
- First run feels realistic, the every time I went off a new jump I felt like I was actually falling.
- Responsive gameplay, once you figure out how to use the controls well, it is easy to feel like a pro skiier.
- Graphics are cartoony, but well done.
Cons:
- There is only one track, and there is no finish line, once you get to the end it just repeats the course.
- Music is repetitive and cannot be turned off.
- Feels more like a demo to a full game.
Overall it was fun to play, and I like to use my Vive to show off VR to my friends, this game has become a quick favorite for new players.
Yeah, I guess it is fine. It feels like a mobile app though. There isn't much to it. There is only one track, and only one mode. You just...do that thing...It is a nice getaway for after you play something creepy. But, I just wish there was more to it. Another track, another mode, just anything else.
definitly positive.
vive needs more games like this.
smart developer, small size with high quality
nice idea with fairly implemented
btw i almost tumblin down while jumpin off the cliff.
to players: PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN U PLAY THIS GAME, especially while letting ur old parents to experience this game.
make sure the surroundins are safe to even fall down with ur butt landin lol.
i'll play ur new game, lookin forward
Good luck!
6.6 out of 10
As long as you understand this doesn't intend to be any kind of realistic skiing sim then it's good fun. It's very immersive using your hands to row the ski poles to build speed. It's intensive as the difficultly builds up over the course, I haven't mananged to reach the end due to colliding with swooping eagles partway through; as I said this isn't a simulator.
As there's really nothing out there to compare to this, its as good as it gets. Which is a shame as Fancy Skiing shows proof of concept that skiing works great in VR. Fancy Skiing "isn't" exactly an awesome game, it's just one long course, and there are no other options. Some of shortcomings in the production include, your virtual skis always point forward, and the music can't be turned off (which can get annoying over times). Basically it's pretty barebones, lacks polish, but sort of priced around being acceptable value.
Though I quite enjoy this game, as a rating I'd give it average as an objective game rating. If a more refined skiing title comes along, get that and avoid Fancy Skiing as it's shortcoming will be revealed and this title will easily be forgotten. Giving it a thumbs up is a real stretch. I doubt this game would get so many thumbs up is there was something else/better out there.
I recommend this game but with a Caveat. This game is the perfect one for people getting into VR and not really gamers, friends, girl/boyfriends, and family. I usually have my family members play "Waltz of the Mage" as an into game and when they want to try something else its hard to find a good change of pace game. I used to have them do Lab but this is much better. It gives you a feel of real movement that no other VR game I have played to date has given you. I had several family members screaming and falling over "safely" trying to get into it and they each loved it.
If you are a hardcore solo VR gamer this is not for you. It has limited replay value but it is a great addition to the collection for friends family.
For just $10...I can experience extreme skiing off a cliff...I had my wife try it, and she was screaming so loud..I thought neighbor may call the police....for measly $10...I am fully immersed with fan blowing in my face.....great game...
I admit I am still on my Vive honeymoon but this is a great value... I came over from PS4 and console game title averaged over $50...
After several tries...I have not been able to finish the course yet....looking forward to more courses in the future
The price is a complete rip-off. While the game can be fun, there's nothing to it other than repeatedly going down the same course over and over. It kept my attention for all of 12 minutes before I was bored with it. Also, the controls are not ideal. You steer by tilting your head. Not moving it, tilting it. As in, tilt your head 45 degrees to the right to go right. It would be far more intuitive, I think, to have you tilt the controllers as you would with skipoles when actually skiing, although I suppose that might take away from the sense of speed some. For $2.99 it would be alright, but for $10 it's a joke.
This game is pretty exciting and is a lot of fun but unfortunately there isn't enough content to make it worth $10. This feels like a demo-there is only 1 ski course and you start from the beginning every time, and there are no other features other than going down that 1 hill in this game.
If more was added ie. tubing, snowboarding, multiple tracks etc then I would recommend this but I just cant at this point.
I had many doubts about purchasing Fancy Skiing, as the game seems to be very sickening in videos (also very fun!): in general I find that quality software need to be inclusive. I must say that on this side, the game is pretty good: the comfort is similar to a cockpit game, here it lacks a reference frame but also miss any rotation of the screen (the most toxic movement in VR, who comes from DK1-2 knows) so there are only three-axis acceleration but no rotation. The fact you need to move a lot is also good, because your balance is not 100% on the vection side (it's also nice as a workout). Basically, if the slightest movement is nauseating maybe you can't play with Fancy Skiing, but you don't need an iron stomach to be able to play, I'll rate just a bit less comfortable than Hover Junker but way more comfortable than any FPS kind of locomotion. Sorry for the long description with my crappy english, but I would like to get those information before buy so I hope could be helpful for someone.
As a game, it's not very polished at the moment (just out from a day o two) and it's one of smaller download I've ever seen, almost 80MB, so don't expect ton of contents or surprising graphics. Anyway it's fun, I mean real fun, you move your stick to gain speed and it's just stunning how natural it feels. For turning, it's a bit weird because the game use your head's inclination: in real world, the centrifugal force make you lean without falling, but here (if you want to play stand, as I suppose it's more fun and real) you're forced to open a lot your legs for stay in balance. With some practice you can achieve to manage it, but controls in general need some works, they're a bit too rough.
The game don't own (at the moment at least) torunaments, tracks or any kind of variation. But, for what I saw, it offer a single track with an increasing difficulty. So, like a good old coinop, it's focused on super short sessions (it's game over in minutes) where you learn how to progress with trials and errors. I like this way more than usual endless/random waves (in this case, waves of obsacles) because actually you can progress in it. I've not play the game enough to say about how long it is, or how challenging it is, I hope it's a good mix bethween being too easy, crazy difficult and short. Anyway, being a brand new experience for Vive users, it worth his price just for be able to ski in VR.
I don't know if this game is called Fancy Skiing, or Fantasy Skiing, I'd call it Crap my pants Skiing.
To descibe this game in a word... YEEEEEHAAA!
The very first jump had me closing my eyes and screaming like a little girl with a scraped knee. And as the movie quote goes "There's nothing worse than seeing a fat man weep"!
Speed, heck yeah,
Jumps, yeah baby,
Obstacles, definitely,
Feeling like you're going to die, priceless.
Definitely pre-beta material but I give it a 10 on the fun scale.
Get my skis pointed in the direction I'm moving and this will be my new go to game to show off my Vive!
Viva la Vive!
This is the kind of game I've been waiting for. It's fast and it's going downhill (in a good way).
It's an arcade type game, you try to avoid trees, boulders etc to survive. You have skiing poles to add speed, and this feels very natural actually (disclaimer; my knowledge of skiing irl is very limited). You turn to the side by kinda tilting your head, and this doesn't make sense to 100% at the beginning. My feeling is that it should be a little more sensitive, but after a few rounds you'll get the hang of it.
At first I played with bent knees and leaning a bit forward, great for the sense of speed and immersion, but maybe a little harder to navigate. Standing straight with the feet a bit apart seemed to be a bit easier. And as you can regulate your own speed you can also choose if you want to go furiously wild or a bit slower and more tactical.
You'll crash alot, but you'll do better every time as you learn the course. The longer you stay alive, the more points you get. Also seems to be getting points for hitting deer, and there is a snowflake on the score-board that I have no idea what it is yet.
The game runs without any problem on my GTX 1070 with 1.5 SS. I have never had any motion sickness so I don't know how this is for the pukers.
I'll put this game in my daily rotation for sure. If you like games like "Unbreakable VR Runner" then I believe this will be for you. Also it might be a good game to demo to people, because it's not like anything else at the moment.
+ Fun, fast, original
- €7.99 would be a more fair price
There is also some minor translation errors, but nothing important.
Good work!
OK, I've made two seperate attempts at this, each one was for 12 minutes for a total of 24 minutes so far.
The first time was so overwhelming that I was literally falling over as I took the huge jumps into deep valleys. My stomach was in my mouth, the way a rapid drop from heights would do (not VR sickness). As I hit the ground in VR, my knees and legs were instinctively trying to balance me in real life. SO hard to explain. I took the headset off and giggled. The experience completely fooled my brain.
So, about an hour later, I tried again. This time I kept telling myself "this isn't real", and I was able to actually play and enjoy it. Within minutes, and after crashing multiple times, I totally got it. Bending your knees, and leaning is the key to this. When flying thru the air into a deep valley, and a massive boulder is in your path, all I can recommend is either lean over far enough to avoid it (you seem to have control while catching air), or CLOSE YOUR EYES as you smash into it.
I highly recommend this for those that want to crash dive into building VR sickness resistance. Once you build up tolerance in this VR sim, you will be able to play in VR game that uses motion to move around. Hopefully developers will stop thinking we're all a bunch of pansies, and start making games that we can 'walk within the VR environment', like these guys developed.
Good job developers. But, it needs polish for sure. Like please include menu options to disable 'in game' music so I can hear my own music.
