A fun little autorunner with cute japanese aesthetics, collecting pantsu, and some amazing synth-style music to go with your fun adventure of tormenting a japanese neighborhood. Easy game to 100% (though a bit long in order to get that one last achievement unless you are amazing at autorunner games), and has quite the challenge for avoiding all the obstacles the little doge has to deal with. Pick it up on sale.

Aside from meme value, Montaro is just not a good game. This is basically just a poorly designed old flash Newgrounds game.

This is how you farm doge coin.
Despite the game featuring a live system, there are 4 (chickens, crows, holes and birds) obstacles out of 5 that instakills you. Level design makes my eye bleed, most of the time you are facing an unavoidable death because world generation says so. On Steam Deck at least the whole progress resets after closing the game, thus if I need to 100% I need to do it in one sitting.
If you want it for the memes, sure, otherwise I would tell you to avoid this clusterfuck of a game, even at its price of 1 euro.

Montaro is yet another of several hundred, if not thousands of garbage low effort endless runners plaguing Steam.
Like all endless/autorunners, you're moving and you can't stop. All you can do is avoid the obstacles coming at you in this incredibly shallow shovelware game.
The only reason this went anywhere was specific design elements intended to appeal to weebs, Doge meme fans and cryptobros... and frankly when a game is designed for those (sometimes overlapping) groups, it's not going to have appeal for anyone else. All of the reviews for this game praise the meme theme (which, of course, was not the original creation of the "developer" here, they jumped onto a public domain internet meme and are trying to cash in on it with a garbage endless runner).
From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
The game only displays in 4:3 pillarboxed aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming.
The implementation here is of such poor quality, the developer couldn't work out how to make the game display in fullscreen, it only runs in a window.
The controls can't be customised because the game has such a dumbed down, simplified interface that it's just a one button game. The fact that the interface is this dumbed down might be seen as a problem in itself, however... this is a fairly shallow experience if you're the kind of gamer that likes to play games with deep, rich control schemes and interaction. You'll get none of that here.
So that's a lot of words to describe in depth what anyone would expect from a lazy, valuless meme game.
These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Reviewing SteamDB to check how popular this game was with players reveals a surprise... there's a modest spike in player counts for the game. But this only happened once, around the same time that trading cards were applied to the game... so this is just card idlers getting their cards and moving on. A closer look at the numbers shows the game just has a couple of players every week running up the game and idling it for cards, then deleting it. We must ask how it benefits gamers for there to be so many games like this, with no merit as a serious game, that only generate sales from people idling and selling the trading cards.
So, should you buy this game? Is this one of the best of the 100,000+ games on Steam?
Montaro is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend. This is also competing with over 11,000 free games available on Steam, many of them far better than this paid product.

A simple and straight forward game with a little quirky doge as our protagonist. A bit time-consuming to full achievement the game but still fun with a bit of facetiousness on the side.

Montaro is a hardcore PvE High speed game that will destroy you harder than any other game or boss in dark souls & Elden ring combined, faster than any situation in Helldivers, and you will have no one else to blame but yourself, as it slowly misleads you with its graphics, upbeat music, that slowly break your focus, lowers your guard, response time and background elements slowly melt with foreground leading to imminent death. Master all the obstacles, find weaknesses of enemies, chain up combos, manage cooldown on your skills, (Stop dreaming, you got none, this ain't some fantasy game hero) and if you really want to prove that you are not B. made, strive to obtain 1,000 Dodge Coins in one run. One life. one opportunity to prove that you are the one. Goodluck, and welcome to reality Neo.
