Imagine leading a country so good that even your political rival in elections highly approves you. lmao
This is one of the most completely immersive games ever. You control the flow and outcome of your entire country. If you succeed or fail, the fault falls on you. I really enjoy it.
"Viva la Vida."
Tropico 6 is a morally dubious game. It is a game of self aggrandizement, and it captures the absurdity of a nation under the grasp of a dictator, riding the winds of history, oddly well. The game is well made, hilarious, and plays well. Enjoy the resorts, the vacation destinations, and the sheer destitution of a poorly run country, in debt, and subject the whims of a madman - the great El Presidente, you.
Probably not a big gameplay upgrade regarding all previous Tropico's but if you didn't play one of those, this might be a nice game for you. Do not expect a deep simulation but a relaxing and enjoyable game.
My suggestion would be to make sure you play (some of) the missions first to get an idea of all controls, options and consequences of your choices to avoid frustration later.
I don't like the researching system, or the raid system. Not enough randomness or skill-based learning, its just.. Something.
The game play is fantastic. Really love the base game so far. I was a big player of Tropico 5 and this only lacks the ability to click on and customize the Tropican people.
I recently purchased this game for the holiday sale and have had a bit of time to play; so far it is pretty fantastic! I enjoy how the missions have just enough of a narrative to enjoy a story direction making each level feel unique and fun in its own way. While lacking some of the finesse as Cities: Skylines when it comes to logistics of the warehouses and efficient flow of material goods to make a more efficient and lean city and sophisticated roadways and traffic systems (made more realistic with the now unfortunately broken mod base since they made Cities 2), among other things, I appreciate it for its lack of terrain modification. It makes it feel more rigid, as it is dealing with islands under constant governance of a foreign power. It definitely gives the feel of pressure of dealing with multiple factions to keep the political system relevant at every step, but still mostly fun. It can feel a bit overwhelming when you have multiple outside powers and faction leaders chiming in constantly, but pocket veto is really useful.
I only have the Caribbean Skies and New Frontier DLC packages, and both are very fun so far. The drone and cargo airport setup is lacking, because of the overall failure to make a useful logistics system. The teamsters end up eating up entire economies and them some just keeping the materials moving from production zone to refining, then to shipping. The fact that warehouses only act as overflow for the dockyard is.... why even bother? The use of drone as transportation is fun, and its nice to have the option to rule as a benevolent supreme being, or make a nation of slaves that have no option to labor until they die while reproducing under forced marriages and being unable to ever leave the islands hits some somber notes, it still manages to make it all feel natural to the theme of the game. It is still hits strongly that there is no price too steep to achieve liberation.
Fantastic overall. The modding scene is sadly, and wimperingly lacking containing mostly maps to play on. There is nothing available to really expand housing, industry, politics, or trade. The most useful non-cheat(kind of cheaty) mod is the drone mod for colonial times. It automatically maps out drone delivery routes. It's cheaty because it actually helps to improve the impoverished capacity of logistics this game offers, but in a way that is inauthentic to immersiveness of the period piece city builder that this is since drones delivering packages automatically is nice, but out of place as a pre/early industrial society.
I have been playing tropico since day 1. I have all 6 games and most of the upgrades. I have taken a long break before T6. There are some differences and 1 I would like to bring up. In past versions you could set a wide variety of salaries. Now its just a couple options.
The game's campaigns are wack in their balance on normal difficulty. It feels like half the time you're just waiting for a box to be ticked while having the game throw multiple things unfairly to prevent you from ever getting there.
Half the time you need to flat out ignore primary objectives and build up economy as the objective creep suddenly throws you in staying in negative budget the entire time.
Coming from my experience with Tropico 4 I would advise bringing back capitalist investment opportunities that allowed you to build stuff without getting blueprint / shelling out the full cost as honestly the rate at which you get random blueprints from raids is SLOW.
While having micromanagement of exports being a big factor in this release it feels like warehouses were awfully designed and don't work in a helpful way at all since you have to constantly babysit those on top of selecting exports.
So I didnt really get how these games played until recently, and I'm pretty hooked. Essentially, you get to manifest your own society. Its also bit hard to think about where the next street should go or where to place things, or keeping track of everything, which is what originally turned me off. What got me back on is realizing, who cares? you're the president...e
thos game makes me feel excited and i think about it when i go to the bathroom. it has fun adventures and i want to find a girl who also plays it so that i can marry her and when we have babies they can play it too. the puzzles are fun and make me think of my teacher. she is a nice lady and is good at puzzles and now i can be good at puzzles too even though theres no puzzles in this game! thank you game for being so good.
Far better than Cities: Skylines IMO. Perfect mix of RPG, simulator and unhinged humour, making the game fun to play. Even better, the game can teach you about the realities of internal and world politics.
Some of us would like to just build and manage a city. All the mandates and political pressures are a drag. There needs to be a mode where you just build and the city gets better or worse based on the way you build, arrange and manage the city.
Game is super relaxed and fun. It's simple enough to have various campaigns and sandboxes going at a time without getting confusing. Nice, because depending on what you wanna focus on, gameplay can vary from to casual to rather intense. Fun simulation game with interesting "story lines". Would like there to be more varieties in buildings and such - visually the game is pretty stagnant in that way. Overall though, very good game if you like a simulation/tycoon/sandbox shtuff.
Great fun strategy-/ city building game.
Nice graphics and fun satire.
The game is wonderfully complex city builder with factions competing for your attention, trade routes that need to be negotiated and political alliances that must be nurtured. Oh, you must keep your people happy or you don't get reelected. Complete with wacky characters and odd goals to achieve. I have found this game challenging and fun and at times frustrating. So far I have only played missions and a couple have taken me more than one attempt to win. If you're into this type of game, this is a blast.
As a life long Tropican I must say. The game is good as always, but it seems the DLC is getting out of control. They release a couple new buildings, maybe an edict or two and we pay our money like good buyers. I'm sad to say probably the last Tropico I buy if this model continues (it will cause we buy it).
Just know your paying for 1/8th the game should of been at launch. They are counting on you spending 175.00 for the bundle of things that should of been in the game from the start.
Exceptional city-builder with the most unique sense of character and charm of all of them.
Manage a Caribbean island from colonial times into the present day. Build a strong export economy by managing your supply chains effectively. There is an element of balancing competing factions and winning elections or facing off against rebels, but do not be misled! This is only 20% of the game. 80% of it making sure your civilization is profitable.
The main selling point of this game is the atmosphere. It doesn't have the absolute highest fidelity, but it is very pretty when it comes to colours, lighting and the character of buildings and people. The right balance between cartoonish and realistic. This is matched with lively and delightful Latin tunes, and camp characters.
Gameplay is at a good challenge level for my tastes, once you understand that you're playing an economy game. If you set up your supply chains correctly based on prices and synergies, you should be able to roll in money.
Regardless of what kind of city you want to make, you have to be focused all-in on money making. That's not good or bad but it might be surprising if you read about Tropico and think that it will be a political simulator. Money is everything in this game. I don't like the way your economy is always devoted to exports (yes tourism is an export too) with little internal development. Compare Manor Lords, Cities Skylines or the Anno games where there's internal development and you can directly raise revenue or resources in a serious way from your own people. There are also bigger lag times between setting up a supply chain and making revenue up than you might expect.
There are various internal and external factions you can either align with or alienate. This is a mixed bag. Every now and then, they come with "demands", which you can simply agree to and then not fulfil. The external factions have all ended up loving me simply by the natural process of agreeing to various trade routes with them. And pleasing internal factions (as everything else) always comes down to having spare money from the main part of the game - building an export powerhouse. If your economy is strong, then you can please everyone.
Something you only tend to notice when it is broken, is that Tropico has very good AI. The citizens are all fully simulated, better than in Cities Skylines. I never had queues of moronic drivers all trying to drive down the exit lane in a seven-lane highway, despite them not exiting. Bus routes work and can be daisy-chained! They'll move to jobs and vacant houses, and make sensible decisions about which amenities to use.
So, overall, Tropico 6 is fantastic. Just understand that it is a game about making money, with the politics all downstream.
I also played the previous chapter and they outdid themselves in this one, it's really fun and very varied. With interesting mechanics and increased resource management. Really recommeded
It's got me wondering when were gonna see a new Tropico game. Hopefully we'll be able to build different road types on it.
Fun Tropico game, great successor to Tropico 5
This is one fucking awesome game, i never played 100 hours in any game , this game could break the record ( hopefully!), usually 30 hrs is my normal ( far cry 4 is an outlier 60 hrs). the number of hours of Joy i had put shows the level of joy and value for money, i got. this game is still a bit challenging even in the easiest difficulty , which putting off my interest, so some levels i have quit it. the game could be a bit easier for casual gamers like me ( Tropico 4 had the perfect difficulty for casual gamers like me with back breaking office work. ( literally habving lower back pain while typing this). this one definitely feels upgraded from tropico 4 ( tropico 5 was so difficult i just quit it). buy it you will have tons of fun time, i am gonna play open world of those maps that i failed in campaign
so good this game feels less organized and more creative 5 starts out of 5
Not as deep as Sim City - but with good amount of humor. Also you can dream about vacation on tropic island with rum and sigare - you will never get in real life.
I randomly found out about the Tropico series a few years ago whenever i was searching for my next city builder game and I saw that one of my friends owned the game so I trusted his judgement and decided to give it a chance (Come to find out my friend never even played the game) and it has easily become my favorite city builder game out there. It can be difficult at first but once you learn the mechanics it is pretty fun with a hard difficulty to add a challenge for experienced players. It has a like Caribbean/ Cuban vibe when playing. It does have goofy narration that is great but the actual game play itself is not goofy
I find it fun. I only finished 2 missions as of now and it is fun to play with. If you like the first Tropico then you would like this also.
so fun, a city builder with a twist
multiplayer keeps crashing..disconnections... otherwise good game
Very limited, very small. Kinda pretty, but mostly ugly.
Great fun game with lots of different things to do and focus on
It's fun to be a dictator (except for having an uprising every 2 minutes)
casual play, yet challenging at the same time with a relaxing soundtrack during the game.
Improves on Tropico 5's systems in every way. Fewer QOL improvements are hidden behind DLC, which I enjoy. It's surprisingly fast-paced, making it more of an RTS than a city-builder, which is fun. I'd appreciate a few more dialogue variations though, I'm about 3/4 through the missions and many jokes get old after the first few chuckles. That's a nitpick though.
Such a fun game ! PLay a 1000 times and do each one differently !!
best dictator simulator ever
I can play this game for hours without noticing. That's how good Tropico is.
Title: Tropico 6 – A Dictator’s Paradise with Endless Possibilities
Tropico 6 is a game that lets you live out your ultimate dictator fantasies in a vibrant, satirical sandbox where you shape the destiny of a tropical island (or archipelago) as its beloved—or feared—"El Presidente." With its blend of city-building, political strategy, and hilarious dark humor, Tropico 6 strikes a perfect balance between fun and complexity.
The Good
Be the Ruler You Want to Be (Even a Fascist Dictator):
One of the most entertaining aspects of Tropico 6 is the freedom to govern however you see fit. Want to implement sweeping social reforms and win over your citizens with kindness? Go for it. But the real fun starts when you embrace the role of a fascist dictator, ruling with an iron fist. Build secret police stations, suppress dissent, rig elections, and force citizens into labor camps—all in the name of "progress." The game doesn’t shy away from poking fun at authoritarian regimes, making the whole experience darkly comedic.
Expanded Scope with Archipelagos:
Tropico 6 introduces multi-island maps, allowing you to manage interconnected islands with specialized economies. Whether you’re building a tourist haven, a resource-extraction hub, or a military stronghold, the ability to bridge islands adds a new layer of strategic depth.
Endless Customization and Micromanagement:
You can customize everything from your palace to your constitution, tailoring your government to fit your vision. Declare martial law, control the press, or privatize industries—there’s a policy for almost every dictator trope. Every decision affects your citizens, allies, and foreign relations, making it immensely satisfying to balance these elements—or not, if you’re happy to rule through fear.
Humor and Satire:
The game leans heavily into its humorous tone. Your advisor, Penultimo, is a constant source of absurd comedy, and the in-game radio offers sarcastic commentary that perfectly captures the absurdities of politics. Even the most tyrannical actions are delivered with a wink and a nudge, ensuring that the game remains lighthearted despite its heavy themes.
Beautiful Presentation:
The visuals are stunning, with lush tropical landscapes, bustling cities, and dynamic day-night cycles. Watching your islands grow and thrive—or collapse into chaos—is a feast for the eyes. The soundtrack, full of catchy Latin tunes, enhances the vibrant atmosphere.
Co-Op and Multiplayer:
For the first time in the series, Tropico 6 includes multiplayer, letting you team up or compete with other players. Whether you're cooperating to build thriving islands or sabotaging each other's economies, the multiplayer mode adds even more replay value.
The Challenges
While Tropico 6 is incredibly engaging, the learning curve can be steep for newcomers, especially when juggling multiple islands. Also, the campaign missions, while fun, occasionally feel repetitive. However, the game’s sandbox mode more than makes up for it by offering limitless freedom.
The Verdict
Tropico 6 is a triumphant addition to the series, offering unmatched freedom to shape your tropical paradise—or dystopia. Whether you're a benevolent leader or a ruthless fascist dictator, the game rewards creativity, strategy, and a sense of humor. It's a must-play for fans of city-building games and political simulations alike.
Score: 9/10 – A hilarious, strategic sandbox for wannabe dictators and dreamers alike. Viva Tropico!
I love when my citizens are too stupid to get into collage, so then i steal people for my clinic, but they dont go to work, then i get overthrown because people are dying in the streets, thank you game.
Great game. I love city sims and this just takes it to the best type of level and depths. Fun sandbox modes and lots of options to choose from. Annoying faction popups when I am doing something else. Wish there was an option to make them wait until I leave another menu, but oh well. Great for passing time. Addicting.
Enjoying the Boat builds and water building but looking for a sandbox mode on this game. Dont really want the missions but would love the choice
Love the game, hate the balance issues.
You can play following the bouncing ball, doing everything right then at the same point in different levels absolutely everything goes wrong every game. There's a big difference between challenging and having to workout exactly which variation of sticking your finger in your ear and hoping on the spot the developer intended at that point in that level.
It's kinda like SimCity but with rebels, dictators, and communism.
After completing the tutorials, I was able to begin the story missions and feel comfortable in how I fail or succeed
A game made for those who aren't sure if they like socialism and play to make sure they don't.
Very entertaining economic/government/city building sim. I have been playing the tropico series since the original tropico even pirate cove :( and I keep coming back for more this is another good installment.
Best simulation game for me, it's not too hard and complicated but it has some mechanisms to explore. You don't need to have DLC to have fun, I love the campaign with great humor.
It's good. Just like the other 5 of the franchise. I didn't find anything special about it though. Id say, only buy during a very good Sale.
There are a lot of ways to play this game. Replay ability is high, if this is a genre you appreciate.
the game is fun but the dlc is overpriced. 15$ for a building. ok no.
I think a nice addition would be a Harbour Master to control trade as this takes up a lot of the players time. You would set instructions for the Harbour master to follow.
