In this horror adventure game, play as 11-year-old girl Aya Drevis and uncover the secrets of a bizarre incident that befalls the Drevis residence, where maniacal experiments are conducted night after night.
To arrive at the truth, you'll need to make use of chainsaws, knives, hammers, even bottles of eyeballs to explore every inch of the terrifyingly mad mansion.
This is a remade version of the original Mad Father. In addition to updates such as a total revamping of the in-game graphics, this remake adds brand new scenes and Blood Mode: a new second playthrough which alters the story.

Who wouldn't love to get chased by a hot dad?
As my first experience with an RPG-maker game, I can only compare Mad Father Remake to itself. I used to shy away from both 2D and pixel graphics until I got so bored of realistic walking simulators that I decided to broaden my horizons. I may not have found my new favorite genre, but every second of this was still time well spent. A straightforward narrative unfurls before you like a roll of paper as you accompany 10-year-old Aya through the dangers of her family mansion housing odd creatures, hidden passages and otherworldly dimensions with the goal of unearthing its dark secrets.
If you have a controller, this game is fairly easy to play with its forgiving QTEs few and far between, multiple manual save points and no-sweat puzzles. Since the beginning of the game passes wandering about the same hallways before entering an underground area for a more linear path, an in-game map could've been of help when revisiting locations, however, this is not indispensable to successful navigation. Excluding a cringy audio effect here and there, the soundscape was well-constructed and supported the unsettling, mystery-thick atmosphere. The static, anime-style CGIs really enhanced the immersion by adding an extra layer of variety to the top-down perspective, breathing life into the pixelated characters by depicting their emotions more accurately.
Neither the story nor execution of Mad father is groundbreaking but the atmosphere surely is a memorable one - despite being on the more casual side of horror, for a game made almost entirely out of pixels, it managed a short and engaging ride. I'd recommend giving away a few bucks to experience the legendary chase by a chainsaw-wielding maniac of a father!

good game
love rpg horror games like this
great game
Mad father is a game with a terrible story but great execution thats all u need to know.
i have love this game for a long time , i did not expect a remake of the game with more story . this game is beautiful with the music , the story and the design of the game . i highly recommended you play if you love crazy psycho dad
Similar experience to Corpse Party, which I also enjoyed, although much shorter. The puzzles were really easy, but I'd consider that a plus. The story was interesting and I managed to get all the orbs without any guides. I managed to get all the endings, but I was too tired to go for an NG+ / other mode - maybe I will try them in the future. The unsettling atmosphere and gore worked really well with the story this game was trying to tell.
AAAAUUGH!! This is my by far FAVORITE RPG maker horror game. Playing as little Aya seems so innocent, but with the new additions to the remake of the game that came out a few years ago…..nothing seems to have any innocent background anymore. There’s such deep pain in this game though that will also make you feel the sorrow Aya is feeling involving her parents. Every ending this game has to offer either gives you chills down your spine or leaves you with a broken heart. With whichever ending you get though, the game will feel complete. That’s just how Mad Father is. Which really is the true good ending?
made me jump a few times. loved the puzzles and really fun. highly recommend for a short but cool game
my childhood has been summoned once more, now in HD resolution
beautiful and eerie.

i love gamemaker horror
That was truly the Mad Father
LOVEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
I love this game! I'm glad they remastered it.
luv
Mad Father is a good Classic RPG horror game with the main focus on story and puzzle solving. it's not a very scary game, but it's still creepy, with a unsettling theme that i won't spoil here. If you're new to Mad Father i will recommend you try this game.
One thing i wanna note quick for people who have already played Mad Father, is that you can also play the original steam version, if you do not like the remastered version.
A true icon of the Pixel Art horror genre
Hot dang, this game has one hell of a story, it's a really good psychological horror. If you are looking for a game to play, I highly recommend this game!
loved the artwork in this game & aya is sooo cute ♡
i swear to you this game is terrifying but the storyline is good tho
gud game
This game changed my view on truly good horror. I recommend this, because I love the storyline and characters and so much more! Aya is so silly and cutesy!
maybe the real mad father was the friends we made along the way
Really good story
Mad Father - A Solid Experience So Far
I haven’t completed Mad Father yet, but I wanted to share my thoughts on what I’ve experienced so far.
Scares:
The scares in this game are a bit mid in my opinion. Since it’s a 2D game and lacks first-person or 3D elements, the horror doesn’t hit as hard as other games. However, that doesn’t mean it’s bad—it just relies on a different approach to fear.
Lore:
The lore is where Mad Father really shines. I’ve been surprised multiple times by the story as I played, uncovering secrets that kept me engaged. Without giving away too much, I’ll just say that the narrative is properly crafted and filled with intriguing twists. I encourage you to dive into it yourself!
Unique Mechanics:
One aspect of the game that really stood out to me is the inclusion of Quick Time Events (QTEs). It’s not something I often see in horror games, but it caught my attention as soon as I saw it in the trailer. The QTEs add a nice layer of tension and make the gameplay more engaging.
Sound Design:
The sound design and OST (original soundtrack) are also well done. The music perfectly matches the cold, dark atmosphere of the mansion, and it shifts dynamically depending on the intensity of the scene. The attention to detail with the sound effects is great, too—they feel realistic and add to the immersion.
I’d love to say more about the game, but I don’t want to spoil anything for new players. If you’re interested in horror games with deep lore and some unique mechanics, I’d definitely recommend giving Mad Father a try. Or, if you’re unsure, watch a few reviews to see if it’s your type of game!
This is my first time writing a game review (Steam asked if I would recommend it, so I thought, “why not?”). I hope this made you at least a bit curious to check out the game!
Be kind in the comments, and I hope you all have an awesome day! ✌️
This game supriced me.
Love the twisted story.
I will recomed this game.
solid horror game, story was a bit weird but gameplay/puzzles were great
Very fun stories, good upgrade, the character getting more beautiful, and love the adding ending, and cutscene
I've been playing this game since I was 14 years old in 2016, this game has always been one of the best Japanese horror RPG's I've played to this day along with Misao, The Witches House and the Crooked Man. Highly recommend if you like these types of games.
While i am fairly new to the Mad Father game, i can certainly tell why it's considered one of the Rpg horror classics.
unlike other 2d story-based pixel rpg with themes of depression™, Mad Father definitely leaned heavier into it's Horror categorisation more than the others, so prepare for minor disturbances to yourself if you ever plan on playing this!
it features a thrilling captivating story, an artstyle reminisicent of old anime from the early 2000s, along with neat puzzles, though nothing too gamebreaking. QuickTime Events are also a fairly common occurence in this game.
The game also features collectibles, but you shouldn't feel to pressured trying too hard collecting them all. They're not all that hidden anyways and are fairly obvious to spot most of the time.
This game isn't really all too groundbreaking like Paper Lily or Omori, it's comparable to the likes of Ib in terms of content. Would definitely recommend checking it out if you're a fan of those types of games.
I bought the game because of the overwhelmingly positive reviews. The dialogues and music were enough to captivate me in the first 10 minutes, and I finished the game in one go. The story was very beautiful, I would buy if they make a sequel.
robin best character and f u maria
The gameplay remminds me of resident evil " no instruktions where to go " Plwase ACTUALLY COLLECT THE GEMS USING A VIDEO, You will suffer having to run all the way back just cuz u forgot a gem. The characters give me " B..ut b...uut h..e s...aid he w..ould change Ahhh core ". Like please this man looks ugly ass, just leave this crusty ass bitch. Anyways 10/10 highly recommend.
yes
A gorgeous remaster of an RPG maker horror classic, with a new game mode and extra story details, the story really comes together to a satisfying end <3
The ending with Maria is glitched so I am unable to actually complete it and the poor writing of female characters even in death illustrates the authors own sexism.
this game is so underrated it makes me physically hurt
beautiful story

Sorry but neither the puzzles or the story are anything special or interesting or creative.
Not worth your time.
