Good game but wont connect and has to connect to work fully. Get you sh%^ together cmon !5 years later is it?
Ubisoft is one of the most greedy, incompetent and overall worst companies of all time.
You just can't compete with them in terms of being horrible.
The games servers are down, even singleplayer content is now unavailable
It's okay, the game is rather old. Big kudos to the dev team though for making the game playable offline after Ubishit decided to shutdown the servers.
Other than that, before Anno 1800 was a thing, it's pretty nice game. But going back after playing 1800 feels... odd.
Fun game back in the day, but is now absolutely broken to the point you cannot make it past the intro screen due to a "reboot loop". Literally cannot play the thing.
Game is broken as of right now, save in the cloud missing and no connection to server. without a connection, the vote system is offline as well as some other features.
I just need my old save restored. Ubisoft said in their last patch they fixed all this but it seems to be missing or not working. I cant recommend UBISOFT games if this is their way of maintenance
As of 4/17/2025 the game cannot connect to the servers and has not been able to for two weeks, meaning single player features do not function.
The game is functionally broken until the server issues are fixed.
works randomly but now it seems to be perminantly stuck on the loading screen with the add on reboot message. seems like im not the only one either
WARNING.... DEAD GAME, DEAD SERVERS FOR LOG IN, DEAD SUPPORT.... FALSE ADVERTISING... STEAM, THESE COMPANIES MADE PLENTY WHEN THEY PROVIDED A PRODUCT FOR OUR MONEY... WHY NOT BAN THE COMPANY FROM FURTHER SALES ON STEAM AND LIST THEIR THEFT ACTIONS OPENLY... HAVE THEM PUBLICLY APOLOGIZE FOR INTENTIONAL FRAUD AND THEFT AND THEY MUST RETURN ALL STOLEN FUNDS WITH FULL TVM REIMBURSEMENT AS WE ;-)
Trash company and trash policies.
No longer works.
I have been playing this for years. Today I wanted to come back to it. Fresh install, checked for updates, and became stuck in this 'addon issue restart loop'. Lots of documentation about it online.
No fixes from UBIsoft. Some people have had luck buying all the addons, which then allows it to run. I do not want to do this, as I liked the game without the addons.
One of my fav games now in the bin.
Don't bother buying it, the good times have been lost.
Too many issues with the Ubisoft servers.
I was not able to connect for a few days to the Ubisoft servers due to unkown errors (no internet problem from my side).
That affects your game since many basic features in game are disabled...
Including the key binding that are also "lost" due to the server connection problem.
Fun intro into Anno
great game, horrible launcher
Sometimes the game tells me my connection to the internet has been lost when all other apps and programs have no problem. This has been going on for some time and UBI needs to fix it.
Don't get discouraged by the mixed reviews. Anno 2070 is second best anno game after Anno 1800. Maybe third if You prefer 1404.
Everything wrong with Anno games are due to Ubisoft only. The game is great, the devs have put a lot of love into it.
Most reviews are about Ubisoft too.
Yes, You need the crappy Uplay account.
Yes, Hamster powered servers pukes over themselves often.
Yes, the game doesn't work every now and then because Ubisoft is incompetent.
But this is an old game with multiplayer elements that still works because the devs care. They could easily go The Crew treatment, but somehow Ubisoft hasn't tried too hard to destroy this game.
Just remember. While everything Ubisoft touches turns to shit, they haven't touched too much of Anno. Devs somehow kept most of the independence when creating their art.
Can't even play the game. It links to your email and I don't even have access to that email after 10 years due to theft. So yeah, wasted a grant total of $50 on all the dlcs and everything. Ubisoft STILL hasnt gotten back to me after weeks and steam wont refund either because I have "had the game for more than 2 weeks."
Wanted to play after a while to finally understand this game and now its just not going to let me. Cool shit guys.
Graphics: 8.5/10
Still holds up well for its age. Clean, futuristic aesthetics with detailed buildings, smooth animations, and a beautiful ocean environment.
Gameplay: 9/10
Deep, rewarding, and strategic. Balancing resources, eco-systems, and faction needs keeps you hooked for hours.
Sound & Music: 7.5/10
Ambient and atmospheric, though not particularly memorable. It fits the mood but doesn’t stand out much.
Story: 6.5/10
The campaign is okay—more of a long tutorial—but it’s the continuous mode and sandbox gameplay where the game really shines.
Replayability: 9/10
Tons of depth, different factions, and multiple paths to grow your cities make this game super replayable.
User Interface: 8/10
Clean and informative, though the amount of menus and micro-management might feel overwhelming at first.
Overall: 8.5/10
A smart, futuristic city-builder with complex mechanics and a fresh twist on the genre. Definitely worth playing if you’re into strategy games.
It says a lot when the weakest game in a franchise is still greater than most city-building sims and RTS games can hope to achieve.
Well, what can I say, it`s the fifth Anno game and the only real change was the setting. While all previous four games were set in the late middle age or early modern era, Anno 2070 jumps into the not too distant future where humanity successfully ignored the climate change and turned earth into basically Waterworld (don't hate, the movie's not that bad). Only a few small fertile islands are left, which are heavily fought over by the Global Trust Corporation, the most powerful and efficient organization on earth and the Eden Initiative, who seek ecological balance. A third more or less neutral party is a group of highly intelligent scientists. During the 11 missions of the singleplayer campaign you get to play all three parties (often at the same time), who have to team up against a virus-infected AI that wants to eradicate mankind.
Gameplaywise the three factions don't differ too much from each other. Basically, Trust Corp is much more efficient in producing their goods and needs a lot less space for their buildings, but their ways are also the most polluting ones that significantly decrease the fertility of the island and increase the risk of environmental catastrophes like oil pests and such. Eden Initiative's buildings are a lot more environmentally friendly, but their disadvantage is that they need a lot more space for their buildings. The scientists finally have the ability to build underwater bases to exploit the natural ressources at the ocean floor and they absolutely have to because they just eat special food made out of seaweed. Yuk.
Because you play all three factions at the same time for a vast majority of the campaign, it can get a bit confusing to navigate all the different building menus and manage all the specific production chains for each faction, even for seasoned Anno veterans. In addition, it will take a little time to actually understand all the new production chains and purposes of the buildings, due to the setting. In all the previous Anno games you pretty much instantly know what you need a forge, cattle farm or winery for. But what the f*ck is the purpose of weather control stations, info hives or carbon fiber factories in an Anno game? Furthermore, the Sci-Fi setting is an interesting change of scenery, but this whole post-apocalyptic thing makes the artstyle actually pretty drab and it just lacks the colorful charme of it's Renaissance-themed predecessors.
So yeah, the campaign is definitely among the weaker ones in the series and so far Anno 2070 has been my least favorite experience in the franchise. It may beat Anno 1602 simply because it looks and sounds much better and the gameplay is much smoother and more refined, but then again those two games are nearly one and a half decades apart from each other so you can't really count that in Anno 20270's favor. But the good thing is: Apart from those few flaws, it really isn't any different from the previous Anno games and that's great news. If you love city-building sims and prefer a futuristic setting over a historical one, then there is absolutely no reason to not try out Anno 2070.
PS: If you already have an existing Ubisoft Connect account but can't start the game because it keeps telling you that you used the wrong login password, just change your password once when starting the game. That'll do the trick.

ANNO 2070
Genre: Simulation
Release: Q4 2011
( ) 0/8 Simply one of the worst games ever made. Don't waste any money on this.
( ) 1/8 Bad. Seriously flawed with barely any redeeming qualities. Worth a couple of Cents at best, if at all.
( ) 2/8 Sub-par. Only for hardcore-fans of respective genre / series. Don't pay more than 5 bucks.
( ) 3/8 Meh-diocre. It‘s okay. Don't pay more than 10 bucks.
( ) 4/8 Decent, but not for everybody. Don't pay more than 15 bucks.
( ) 5/8 Good game, Must-play for genre- / series-fans. Worth 20 to 25 bucks max, if you are not a fan.
(X) 6/8 Great game, universal recommendation. 30 bucks would be a steal for this.
( ) 7/8 Outstanding game, a milestone of it‘s respective genre. Definitely worth its full prize.
( ) 8/8 Simply one of the best games ever made. Get this, the prize doesn't matter.
15 years of connection and patching issues.
Never buy a game on steam that requires a third party app, especially not a Ubisoft game.
This damn online connection is killing me. It's not letting me connect and so I LOSE ALL MY PROGRESS. This is NOT an enjoyable scenario.
good game
nice
By far one of my favorite ANNO games. Building an undersea base is extremely fun. I love the eco balance aspect and future vibes. The game also looks super grungy which is very visually appealing. It is like having my own Bioshock. The construction tiers are not overly complicated and the game is very enjoyable. I play it all the time.
Interesting campaign concept. I like that you keep your buildings from mission to mission.
Update:
I was unable to complete the campagin because the game refused to start due t some Addon error (I have no addon).
A masterclass in making systemic collapse fun, Anno 2070 is the ultimate cope simulator for those who’d rather build virtual utopias than burn real ones.
Installed through steam, can’t play because of the Ubisoft Connect launcher because it is an old email and Ubisoft’s site is so user unfriendly I would rather complain so people know than play the game or try to get my money back.
nice building simulation
Suddenly stopped working, although I didn't change anything. Reinstalling Ubifag or the game wouldn't help. I seriously hope that Ubisoft goes under.
MOORREEEE PROJECTORSS!!
Very good exemple for show how ubisoft ruin a good game, useless ubisoft.
Remove "disaster off" option, force players to play with disasters only totaly NARSISTIC movement
Game wont launch. Not sure if its ubisoft or steam, probably the bs ubisoft launcher. My playtime is from 2012 and from when the game sits 'launching' in steam. Have tried reinstalling everything over and over and followed a steam community guide with steps... no luck.
You know the time I have put in this game; it's sad that the servers are slowly dying and how much war and play; the best way to play is eco, then tycoon, free power, but all are hypocrites in all of the play; the level of crap from needing power and the DLC making it easier for buildings; the way of the cities and work islands is so much nicer when the damn AI that hates good eco levels for food and no tornados in the zone is fun, and they get mad at you for it. Mmm, it's not like I wanted to keep that out, and you do you, AI. Other players liked when I would make my buildings down for their eco levels. The AIs are fun… But the Neoprints are just Tars; they are not pirates; just kill them when that event starts…. oh yeah, play before it's fully dead. As a dev, I'm taking things out and making a fan game that has base items in with more on how the ECO is formed from air, water, food, and RAD too, and ways to fix it with the mods.
i heard mix things about this game i tried now i see why its mixed
For anyone with the city building itch, this game has it. It is not perfect, and has some issues with balancing and how things are accomplished, however I would say that it is quite the norm for games of this type.
- Great gameplay, it does keep you hooked for hours. A traditional Anno game in my experience and a worthy grab especially on sale.
- Great variety of buildings and different feels for how you want to construct your settlments. There is a meta to the game like any other in this genre, but its not daunting to master and offers a good amount of satisfaction when you do.
- Can be challenging for your first inital hours when starting the game and if your new to the series, which is not a bad things as it offers a satisfying grind to master
Cons
- Storyline is pretty cheesy,
- Challenges are repetitive and not exactly well though-out in my opinion, more like an after-thought.
- once you get the game, it might get a little too easy.
its an incredibly good city builder
Bought this game many years ago, when it didn't require Ubisoft's stupid launcher. Played it later for a few hours when it did require the launcher. It still does but it's a pain in the butt since I've moved on from Ubi and refuse to download their launcher.
I would like to recommend this game , I enjoyed my time playing it but over time steam and ubisoft started playing the "not my problem" game between each other and i can no longer get it to run . Hopefully ubisoft will stop REQUIRING they're launcher even through steam and make the game playable again but untill then they are on par with EA on BS company tactics .
I would recommend Anno 1800 instead. The gameplay is much more intuitive in 1800 if you're new and the menus are easier to understand. Build menu improves in 1800 and the quests work as expected in 1800. 2070 is really not good compared...
Still pissed my cdkey disassociated with my ubisoft account (which may have disappeared too?) and all my game save disappeared.. Every few years i want to try again but remember all progress was tarnished.
This is Ubisoft. One of the worst company i had to deal with. Don't give money to them.
I have spent countless hours of fun in this game, until they removed the options to turn off disasters completely.
This should be optional for users as everyone has a different playstyle.
Forcing disasters on people is not fun.
Also the services and the game itself is unstable, sometimes not launching or losing connection.
It is obvious that they are in the process of killing this game off, just to force us to play their new games, which is disgusting, so I would not support them in any ways anymore.
This is how you ruin a great game.
Shame.
One of my all time fave city builder game
If something goes wrong and you can't access your verification code, log in with one of the six recovery codes generated for you during your 2-Step Verification activation (which you should have received the same day by email).
Note: You get six recovery codes because they're not reusable. So you'll need to immediately deactivate your current 2-Step Verification settings. Then reactivate them again with a new Authenticator app session.
Warning: Production breakdown
No clear guidance on how to progress, the UI is a mess, the building menus are confusing. One of the worst game I ever bought.
** No. Save your time and move on. **
Super janky with blockers that aren't explained and make no sense. Most of my time spent trying to figure out what the game forgot to tell me.
Gave it two chances.
Space Anno sadly wasnt for me. Glad they went back to the classical recipe.
Not sure why people say it does not work bc it DOES! I love the franchise and this one seems to be up with the others. I recommend.
Bought this game because I enjoyed Anno 1800, but this is not even the same style of game. Fixed vertical camera angles is just lame, mission based fragmented gameplay removes 99% of any immersion, fundamentally disrupting the management sim function and focus. Not what I would recommend if you want a similar experience to Anno 1800, but with more modern (or futuristic) tech.
