It's a fun game, but as is the trend with rts games. never gets addicting due to how frustrating it can get. That can be a good or bad thing depending on how you look at it. The primary difference between this Anno and others is that the effects of bad decisions are seen immediately. There's no delay, the second you screw something up, you'll know. This should make it one of the easier Annos, but combine the sheer number of mechanics and commodities with how little real estate you're given in this Anno, and you'll see the hard side very quickly. Organizing everything can take a long time, but it's rewarding to do, and this is one of the most satisfying Annos to make a bunch of progress in. Overall reccomended.

Plenty of odd decisions were made, but I can appreciate the anno team experimenting with the core gameplay loop to try and make something less formulaic. Unfortunately the gambit didn't work out but they tried.

Still very much worth playing, it's very high quality, very polished and very satisfying if you like the numbers game of supply/demand

THE JACK OF ALL TRADES, YET THE MASTER OF NONE

GENRE: ECONOMY MANAGEMENT/SOCIETY BUILDER/PRODUCTION SUPPLY CHAIN
GENRE RATING: 3/10
GRAPHICS: 8/10
AUDIO: 8/10
STORY/CAMPAIGN: 2/10
GAMEPLAY: 4/10
-----------------------
OVERALL 5/10

Having a love of city builder, supply chain/economy/production management type of games, I thought this would be PERFECT to scratch that itch. After reading review after review that matched this exact description, I decided to go ahead and buy it being almost positive I would love it. I can't believe how short this game fell for me, despite the positive reviews (most of the negative reviews are rightfully regarding the Ubisoft Uplay and not the game - but my review has nothing to do with this)

It is extremely shallow, difficult to follow, and very repetitive due to the minimal effect single buildings have, requiring you to just spam dozens, if not hundreds of houses and factories of the same type to increase production and revenue, all of which results in ugly cities due to needing so many buildings of each type - which makes your city always look boring, repetitive, and cookie-cutter.

My shock on how much I did not enjoy this game may have admittedly be because I was expecting a Settlement Survival/Banished (which came out 1 year before this) type of game - which I absolutely LOVE and have hundreds of hours in each and still enjoy to this day. While this game shares similar aspects, to me, it's not even close as satisfying to play due to the sheer shallowness of it. If you're expecting this type of game, I really don't believe you'll like this because it's about 1/100th of the depth those are.

For example, to start your settlement you simply build houses and build roads to connect the roads to the houses. People automatically move in from no where and people and vehicles just appear on the streets. But all of this is just purely visual eye-candy. They are not actually going anywhere or doing anything like in the previous games mentioned, where you can actually see and click on the the people and see what they are carrying, what they are wearing, where they are going, where they live, their job, their needs, their health, etc. They are just visual sprites to give the appearance of a bustling town/city.

This is where the shallowness arises from this game. Every single thing you do and make is just simply an item that doesn't really do anything, other than making the HOUSES more happy (not the individual people); or allowing you to make a new product so you can use that to make another new product. But the every product feels like they have no effect on your people, city, or it's overall economy other than just letting you make new stuff and make more money.

For example, in the prior games mentioned, if I make a deer farm, I first need to actually trade for, buy, or capture the deer, then I need builders to build a farm, farmers to work the farm, then I need a leather worker to make the hide, then I need a tailor to turn the hide into boots, which lastly, needs market workers who will deliver the boots to the market, where the people can pick it up and actually wear them which will reduced their risk of injury and increase their walking speed and productivity. Each of these aspects and production buildings has a significant affect on your city. A single leather-worker actually provides for your city and has a major impact on so many different factors of your city.

In the prior games mentioned, you get a sense of EXCELLENT game-play progression that feels like you're actively involved and that everything you do is actively affecting so many different aspects of your economy, it's people, and the overall town. It encourages you to make better items and gives you a real sense of growing and progressing your city and it's people and managing production and the economy. All of this is completely missing from this game. If you make something for your people, it just simply makes the HOUSES happy, not the people. Or it simply meets the HOUSES "needs". But it has zero effect on individual citizens, their health, efficiency, needs, etc. They do not pick up the product, use it, carry it, transport it, store it, etc. It's creation and it's existence is solely *in a caveman voice* to make house happy bar go green *end of caveman voice lol*; all whilst being stored or used no where, other than a number in an icon telling you that you're making "X" amount and consuming "X" amount. That's it. The product itself does nothing.

To compound the problem, each production building feels ludicrously under-powered and the numbers make no sense to me. Your people need water? Build a super advanced high-tech water station which will provide...5 water. 5 what you ask? 5 teaspoons? 5 pounds? 5 tons? 5 per hour? 5 per month? Who knows! Use your imagination! It's just 5, okay? And somehow 5 water supplies hundreds of people with water. How much does a house need you ask? It doesn't tell you, you'll find out once you start consuming more than you make! This is because instead of production buildings (like water), affecting each individual person or house. It affects the "sector", which is basically the entire region/city as a single group. This just adds to the confusion making the game extremely difficult to follow because so many things are not clearly explained.

The same gameplay applies to every single industry and product. This makes each production building feel so ineffective and exhausting to build them. When you need a rice farm for food, it lasts for about 5 minutes of game-play. This is because you'll build 50 houses and you realize you're now consuming 40 rice, but you are only producing 5 (again, 5 per month? 5 pounds? 5 per decade? Your guess is as good as mine!). So you need 8 more rice fields. But now you need more power, so you build a power station. But now you need more people, so you build 50 more houses. But now you need 8 more rice fields. So you build 8 more rice fields. But now you need more power, so you build a power station. But now you need more people....you get the idea. This is the gameplay loop over and over. Yes, as you grow, you'll unlock more advanced materials, but because they have no individual effects on the people, it just feels so incredibly shallow, boring, and repetitive, because it's going to do the same loop regardless of what the material is.

Overall I'd give a 5/10. While it's a visually impressive game, especially considering it's age, it offers very basic and repetitive game-play. Instead of feeling and playing like a city builder/economy/production management type of game, it instead plays like a cookie-cutter 'wack-a-mole' game. Where you need population, so you solve that with houses, but now you need food/water, so you solve that with food/water plants, now you need power, so you solve that with power plants, but then you return right back to needing people and the process repeats over and over again. It really does not get any more in-depth than that. Period.

If you're looking for a true city building, production/economy management type of game I did NOT get the sense of that type of game from this. I truly believe both Banished and Settlement Survival (more so this one) does a significantly better job that's light years better, despite it not being developed by a "AAA" team.

I want to like this game and revisit.
I previously downloaded the app and used it to boost resource gathers, but I can't stand the always online nature of the game.
I don't like or want uplay installed on my PC.
The combat went from fun to do occasionally to a chore really fast, they allowed you to disable it at the start of a game but for me, I like the aspect, it's just a matter of frequency and variety, which have an inverse relationship to what I'd want.

I would give this game a thumbs sideways if I could. I picked it up on sale after enjoying both Anno 2070 and Anno 1800, and it generally follows the Anno theme of city building that I very much enjoy. As with the others, you build buildings, level up your residences, and as they level up start to construct increasingly complicated supply chains. Unlike the other two games however, there is no setting up of merchant ship routes between islands. Any resource produced in any sector counts towards the sector total, and any resource extractor can be built on any suitable resource deposit. This takes away several layers of strategy, you don't have to worry about which islands have which fertility, nor do you have to worry about the physical path of your trade routes and keeping your merchant ships safe. There is naval combat, but it generally takes place on a separate map, and doesn't really have any impact on your economy. You have the chance to spread out across multiple maps in one game, like Anno 1800, which I like, and going to space is cool, but in general this game just doesn't seem to be as well thought out as others in the series. My advice would be to skip this and buy Anno 1800 instead. If you already have that one, please join me in lobbying Ubisoft to release a graphics-updated version of Anno 2070, much like was done recently for Mass Effect and Fallout 4. Both of those games are miles better than this one.

Anno 2205 runs almost flawlessly with Proton Experimental enabled on Ubuntu 22.04.x. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to let you interrupt the opening cut scene, which is a time consuming annoyance when you start the game for the first time for the day.

Short answer: Worth the full price

When I owned this on this on ubisoft I had a couple hundred hours into it and I loved it, and back then i was younger so man did I struggle. Losing that account and i thought let me buy it again after a few years off and still fun now with pit falls out of the way. I'd recommend 2070, and 2205, and if one day....they make an anno about the solar system..you better believe I'll buy it. Maybe one day I'll buy the other Anno games and check them out..

Amazing game....how this game has a mixed review average makes no sense to me. Yes...it's a bit different than the other Anno games...but don't we want developers trying out new ideas. Sometimes my fellow PC gamers really make me want to scream.....when developers put out the same game with a re-skin you complain...and then when they try something a new and different you complain.

I bought it this weekend. Not digging the campaign. Normally, I skip that and play continuous mode but this one doesn't have that option and I can only progress so far before it makes me play some mini-map where I have to fight. 3rd time and I'm out.

It also has long intro/cutscenes that you have to cancel out to start the game.

“Anno 2205” is a fantastic entry in the city-building genre, offering a unique and engaging experience that spans both Earth and the moon. The game’s visuals are stunning, with detailed environments and beautifully designed buildings that make your cities come to life.

One of the standout features is the multi-region gameplay. Managing different biomes, from the temperate zones on Earth to the harsh Arctic and the lunar surface, adds a refreshing layer of complexity and strategy. Each region has its own unique challenges and resources, making the gameplay varied and interesting.

The resource management and city planning aspects are well-executed, providing a satisfying balance between challenge and reward. The game does an excellent job of making you feel like a high-powered CEO, overseeing a vast and interconnected empire.

The space station DLC is a great addition, offering new mechanics and further depth to the game. The stock market feature is also intriguing, adding an extra layer of strategy as you navigate the corporate landscape of the future.

Overall, “Anno 2205” is a must-play for fans of city-building and strategy games. Its ambitious scope, beautiful graphics, and engaging gameplay make it a standout title in the genre. Highly recommended!

With this game my biggest love for ANNO series started <3 I have played this not on steam and it was bald only ANNO base game. I do really loved it. Then found steam version with 3DLC`s.
Love them all.
May be except Frontiers - the company line is interesting, the achievement is usefull. But automatic upgrade- Oh NO !!! I had to start the new game with this experience.
This strategy is about space and future - the mots interesting for me. I would also play more DLC`s if there were some.
Orbit DLC- gives you a banch of advantages, but money you can make only from vanilla islands, and they are not too many - this should be like that, but I would play more versions of every island
Tundra - IMBA boost for the production - also a small island. I want to maximize the production as much as possible, please give me more map

Stock exchange - trully pulls you into relations with the NPC, finally

Main problem with game - if you want play it as Anno - you woun't enjoy it at all. This game is huge set back after glorious Anno 2070. Despite being sequel it feel more like rip off or spin-off for casual gaming. Hard logistic lines? Complex industrial processess? Ecology? Deep underwater exploration and some fancy catch-and-fetch quests? Forget it. Well actially only fetch-and-catch quests left. Game feel very "arcadish", even combat part that i liked is arcadish like..well..arcade. TYI - i am not person who really enjoy pure sim-build-tycoon RTS but i enjoyed ANNO 2070 and Anno 2205 feel like..well..not Anno At all. If turn off from title and imagine that game is not sequel (and close eyes on easter eggs and some call backs to 2070 in story) You will find that it's kinda almost good casual tyconn-sim-manager. If you are starter for some tycoons - casual 2205 can be really good one to start. But hard fans...well...you can check game and yeah you will agree with all mixed reviews. The biggest nogger and bad-bone for me is absence of multiplayer. Anno 2070 was cool when i was building complex production lines coverd by my friends fleet or vica-versa - was building military force to cover my friend's waters and anno 2205 feel like "happy sci-fi farm tycoon - Farmer in Big City" kinda thing.
Don't make me wrong - game have COOL aspects - Music, graphics, it's beautiful but so primitivley casual that i spend more time taking photos of my cool city than actually building city and moving in story. Yep it have some cool moments - like building inter-continental and inter-planetary (Earth-Moon) trade lines but all "hard problems" of previous title that would make player sweat is dealing by simple sway of mouse-controller and "build more farms". Actually another thing that kinda cool - Anno 2205 is BIG. Several regions but yet they feel...empty. All logistics now is just "background beauty", all combats are simplisticly arcadish, some weapons and some ships feel like floating toys. And yet that all is beautiful. So if you search for casual Eye-candy and you are new to tycoons - try Anno 2205 by some sale. And yeah anotehr huge turn off - language lock. And also translation is painful to hear. So yeah that a turn off too

In total - i would put "Mixed" thumb in my final cause there too much problems and casuial moments and also bad-decisions to keep game of being good, but not enough to make it horrendous bad. Try it if you like to.

This was my first Anno game. I didn't write a review when I first played through because I didn't have the perspective of the other entries. And after reading the reviews, it seems like a big deal. Here's the plain and simple. Anno 1800 was a better game up until you get near the end game, then it becomes your life. The level at which you have to min/max is incredibly, incredibly in-depth...and for a min/maxer like myself, that seemed liked a good thing.

But it wasn't for me; however, I can see how people who truly love supply chain games, it is probably the pinnacle at this time. Anno 2205 is more my alley these days. I play games mostly after work for an hour or two to decompress, so Anno 1800 after a certain point became work to me. Whereas Anno 2205 tops out before becoming your life but still has enough to do to get way more than your money's worth. So, if you like games that allow you to imbibe your preferred destressers and kick back after a long day of work, Anno 2205 is perfect. If you are someone who wants a supply chain game that truly tests your skills and mettle, Anno 1800 (and probably the other Annos) are more your style.

do not waste your money on steam games, keep getting ripped off by this platform over and over lately & ontop of that client riddled with issues and customer support that just stone walls you constantly saying everything is your fault, THEY DO NOTHING BUT SIT ON THERE ASSES GATHERING MONEY!

Several features of the game related to online like global voting and marketplace DON'T WORK, they refuse to fix or implement offline functionality.

This is my second game from the Anno series, and I absolutely like it. You can always make it more challenging by setting game options and playing again. And of course, the graphics and music are super awesome in this game.
Play it, and you will not regret :)
