📢 WISHLIST THE ISLE TIDE HOTEL

Well, it starts super boring and bland. The dude you play as is wimpy and pathetic, it's curious what type of character he embodies but then as you play, it hit you... this guy hasn't seen the sunshine once, has no idea what the sky looks like, and in his own words, has no idea what flowers look like. It becomes so much easier to understand him and empathize with him.
The flashbacks carry the game immensely.
In there lies the core of the game, as you progress, you realize that for once this is an FMV with a story that makes you think. It's not THE best FMV game I played but it does stand among them.
The indomitable human spirit and its will to survive no matter the cost.
The worst interactive game I have ever played in my life. The story is incomplete and incoherent, the scene transitions are excessively long, and the acting is poor, making the game unbearable. Do not buy this game. It is definitely not worth its price.
John takes 2037456 years to walk up some stairs. Ghosts be barking. Fingered some corpse goo. A+
3.5/5
Kinda worse than I remembered it. The game is really short, the story is one dimensional with one obvious twist, it is interesting from the psychological standpoint. All that happens is a sequence of fast paced scenes but those create a good immersion and make you think about what would you do in such a complicated scenario of being trapped in a bunker.
nice FMV game
danke dario für die recommendation
The story itself is not bad, but the gameplay wasn't great. It was very difficult to play on a touch screen and the sensitivity was too slow on a controller. I also wish there was more to explore and do.
Overall... The story is good, but the gameplay sucks.
Despite the good acting and the surprising plottwist - don't waste your time...
Artificially created 'thrill', QTE's which don't even are QTE's, NO descision-making and on top a disappointing ending
:D
I will start this review frankly and unapologetic: Please do not waste your money and especially not your lifetime The Bunker. Seriously, there is nothing there.
It is neither a “real” game nor an interactive movie. The best way I have to describe it is that it is a failed art-student-film in which you sometimes have to press a mouse key, so it goes on. Technically there are things that imitate “QuickTime” events like in other games of this kind, but they do not really change anything and more often than not are simply “drag this white circle into this black hole”. I bought this game because I played Late Shift from the same developer and really enjoyed it, but The Bunker neither reaches the entertainment value nor the quality of the former.
In The Bunker you play, or better observe, John. John was born during the first hours of an atomic war in a government bunker in Great Britan. This was in the 1980s if I got that right. Now, he is a young man, living alone as the last survivor in that same bunker next to the decomposing corps of his mother. Never having known anything else he follows a strict routine to “stay alive” (biologically that is). Until a problem materializes… You follow John through these calamities, getting the chance to learn a little bit more about what happened in the bunker through notes, cassettes and especially flashbacks.
All in all, it is a nice premise and kudos for the casting of John. The actor conveys the role of helpless man-child very good. Unfortunately, this is the only positive thing one can say. In the end the story also does not hold up. Because I was teased with the mention of a “shocking revelation” in a review and concluded it is not worth it, I will spoil it here for those who “must know” (I would argue even watching a playthrough is a waste of time):
So the great mystery is, why after 30 years only you alone are left in the bunker after your mother died approximately three years earlier. It is true that you literally were born in the bunker, but the others were not sooo old. And also, it is introduced that when you were only around 15, they were in danger of running out of food. So where did everyone except you and your mother go? Well, and that’s the “twist” at the end: your psychopathic mother killed them. She used her access in the medical area to create an airborne toxin to kill all her colleges and friends while you and here were safe in an airlock. She did so, that you (and her) would have enough food for decades to come. Could have been a nice story, if it had been flashed out/hinted earlier and there would have been some kind of moral struggle etc. But it was not, and so its simply a twist in the end we must watch twice in the last minutes of the game…
Next to that, when I was thinking about the game for this review I found two aspects I believe are major plot holes, at least as far as I understand the story. One is the main reason for the drama: The filtration system stops working and the alarm goes off that signals that the bunker is filling with (lethal) radiation and your only way to survive is to get out, i.e. leave the bunker. BUT: If the radiation is deadly because the air is no longer filtered, would this not mean that the air on the outside also still is so radioactive that you are dead anyway? Maybe I missed something, but this seems quite illogical to me. Number two is even more stupid: There is a map of the bunker that shows where the radiation is spreading. And I will admit, I did not notice this at first. But the map seems to be complete, you get into every area of the bunker that is shown there and in itself it makes sense. However, there are only two normal small rooms to live in on the map. The two rooms which you and your mother inhabit. Which sounds fine. Until I figured out that the premise is that there are 68 adults (and you as a baby) when the bombs fall IN the bunker and stay there until mummy kills them off. These people are working in different areas like a big office and a war room BUT there is nowhere where all these people could sleep, wash and eat (seriously there is not even a dining hall). So, in hindsight it seems that the developers thought: Which rooms do we need? And put them on a map. Not thinking for a second about the logistics of their story… And finally, we get no hint, or picture of what the outside world looks like. A fact that makes John escaping rather meaningless…
So as mentioned above, save your time and money and do something useful. Like play outside (for five years maybe? 😉).
Ultimately, I don't recommend it because of poorly implemented QTEs at the end of the game (but you can avoid the headache by using an auto clicker). It's also unfortunate that you can't skip scenes during a replay.
I picked it up because I like Wales Interactive. It's not a choices matter game but instead just non-linear storytelling. I like the story and the environment and accept that you don't make choices. The QTEs at the end just really soured the whole experience.
That button mashing crap ruins everything.
You never know what situation you will find yourself in and how you will behave. Take care and love your mother!
I recommend this game!
Difficult game, been stuck for a few hours.
This is a point and click game about the Covid 19 Pandemic. If you stay in lock down, Mommy calls you a good boy. Overall game is only about 2 and a half hours long, even shorter if you push straight through. It's slow paced, and lots of reading and cut scenes. It was worth the money on sale, I feel like they could've given more depth to the choices or paths able to be taken.
Great story, good atmospheric game
Interested in a point and click like game from early 2000? This is the game for you if you love some horror but else this game is not big for you! Enjoy if you get it and see if it is for you! 6/10 Rocks of Stones.
