Slap Village - Reality Slap is a pretty good point and click adventure game, so what’s the story. In the almost deserted town of Golden Onion a young girl named Lurditas is going to be spending her summer with her grandmother in the village of Slap Village, but when she arrives her grandmother is gone and now it's up to this lone girl and her pet rat/best friend Rasta to find her.
So what are the likes, the graphics art style is really good, it has a nice cartoon feel to it like something you'd see on Newgrounds back in the day, definitely very colorful with some nice designs. The levels in the game are good with plenty to see and explore with plenty of details and references to find and see. The cutscenes were very good it definitely had a nice classic Newgrounds feel to it. The gameplay is good it's your standard pointing click game you get items; you combine certain objects and solve puzzles.
The puzzles for the game are okay you can be stumped a few times and sometimes you just end up having to brute force your way through, but other than that they were okay, the mini games you can play were an interesting diversion. The characters were really good each one with their own unique look and personality, even NPCs with a few lines had some nice personalities.
The music for the game was good with some nice songs music to listen too; the voice acting was good; some voice acting was better than others but has its own unique charm. The price for the game is really good I mean $3 is up steel. I love all the references in the game not just to other point and click adventure games, but even movies and comics, it was quite a nice surprise to try and find all the references.
Also I loved the bonus content after you beat the game you've get these will statuettes that basically have little character bios it added some nice depth to the characters, you can also witch cutscenes in the menu of the game as bonus content as well.
So what are the dislikes, there are some bugs in the game, like for some reason I couldn't load a saved game while I was playing it, other than that there was nothing game breaking. The story kind of ends on a bit of a cliffhanger but it wasn't really that bad, also some character depictions can be a bit eye rising like the depiction of certain characters to be fair it's not like super offensive or anything like that, it just kind of made me go wait a second.
There's also this one puzzle where you have to repeat the same set of words this one character said, but get it wrong and you have to start the whole puzzle over again it can be quite frustrating. I also would have liked for the bonus menu to have the newspaper articles that have appeared in the game after doing a certain like stopping a train robbery.
Alright now Slap Village - Reality Slap is a pretty good point and click adventure game, really good graphics art style, very good cutscenes and really good characters. So I recommend getting this game you're looking for a nice point and click game this could be for you especially since it's so cheap.
I was surprised about the quality of this game. I was also surprised it was episode 1 and not a whole game!
The game is unplayable as when you get about half way in its save mode goes haywire. It starts by not saving anything and then deletes all past saves. They should give everyone their money back.
This is a fun, quirky point & click adventure. The character designs are cute and unique, and the animated cut scenes are enjoyable to watch. The dialogue is clearly translated from Spanish and not edited by a native English speaker, but I feel like the language is clear enough overall to progress through the game.
I would recommend this game if you are looking for a more obscure point & click adventure title.
This game is truly a piece of crap.
The characters have a dumb spanish accent and names, even though the majority of them are white.(Apart from the alien and indians, but it doesent really matter since they also have spanish accents.)
There are so many times during the game you will find yourself in a spot where there has been given no logical clues of what to do or where to go next. This results in the player having to search all of the locations/people for available actions over and over again, with no clue where or what it is. Available actions will automatically update during your progess in the game, but like i said you wont get any kind of heads-up of what it is. Therefore it is a big plus that you are able to easily travel with your map once you get it, but still a pain in the ass since there are so many different scenes to search through. Waste of time.
There are also major bugs and since there is no autosave, one can easily end up with the game crashing and you will have to start over, if you dont remember to save every five minutes. When this happened the third time in a row, i was too pissed to complete the game. Good luck to those who try.
Apart from the setup of the game and characters being ridiculus, the story is boring, as well as the main character.
I am a "gamer" who only plays point and click adventure games, so I've seen alot, but this is definitely the worst one I have ever tried. Boooooo
This was a cute little game. I would say it wasn't worth the 15 bucks we paid for it. Limited game play and I had thought there would be a sequel.. guess not ?!?!? I would vote it up, but they really made it look like there would be a second game and haven't heard anything about it since.
Couldn't even get myself to finish it. The art is cute, but that's about it. Not very interesting, and the main character... oh so annoying. I honestly just couldn't stand her and her preachiness after a couple hours of playing. "Only bad people use guns"?? Really?? Oh pleeease. *rolls eyes*
Rather short game but very entertaining.
Funny adventure, some western elements mixed with some alien voodoo.
No über complicated myst bs puzzles, just occasional mixing of 2 items.

This was a neat game. The minigames are fun and varied, and the puzzles mostly make sense. My only dislikes were a few times I had to get help because an item was so small it was almost pixel hunting. The second is the scrolling screens would sometimes hinder progress in discovering there was a movement hotspot just out of sight.
Otherwise, I hope the studio comes out with the next in the series soon because the story is interesting, if a bit nonsensical and exceptionally anachronistic.
I want to like it, but it just really doesn't play well. The voice overs are kinda bit off, but I can see why it's endeering. The game play is clumsy, there have been many times where I have to check a walk through just to find out that new locations are avaible from clicking on a slightly different bit of the map. The art style is beautiful and well thought out, so I really did want to enjoy it. However, it's crashed on me and I lost a lot of progress on puzzles that test my patience.
Even if this game hadn't used Google Translate from whatever language this game was created in, it's still lacking. The cartoony style is cute, but the awkward and poorly translated language is a turn off. I tried to play it a few times, but just can't get into it.
I'm giving this game an unenthusiastic thumbs up - it's an ok game that could be pretty good with just a little more effort from the developers. I hope they take that effort in the later games so I can give the next chapters a more enthusiastic thumbs up.
I really liked the artwork and animation. Very appealing! The story was a bit jumbled up but overall interesting enough for me to continue playing through the game. I thought the characters were rather interesting. The puzzles for the most part were ok - nothing I couldn't have eventually figured out with the standard "try everything with everything" approach. That said, I did resort to a walkthrough to get past a few areas.
The worst part was the English translation. It looked like they ran the original script through Google Translate and used those results without the help of a native English speaker. Some of the things said simply made no sense. I strongly recommend that the developers hire an editor who is a native speaker of English to clean up the translations of future releases, and hopefully put out a patch to this game as well. While they are at it, give the characters American names for at least the English release - this is more or less supposed to be taking place in the American West. For example, the lead character should be named something like Annie or Bonnie Sue, not Lurditas.
The second worst issue was the voice acting. The actress voicing Lurditas is fine, although a western drawl would be even better. But all of the other actors have odd accents that make no sense in the context of the game, and some of them have issues with pronunciation. Combine that with the weird translation issues mentioned above, and it is absolutely necessary to use the subtitles to have any idea of what is being said. I suspect the voice talent is just fine when recording in their native languages, it's just that their native language is obviously not English.
There is some issue with solving the puzzles. I came across one puzzle that used Rasta the rat. I could not get him to go where I wanted in the close-up view of the puzzle, but it worked fine in a more zoomed out view. I had solved the puzzle, but thought I had failed because of game control issues. Did the developers actually have game testers?
My final complaint would be about interesting characters and many inventory objects that seem to have nothing to do with the plot. Lots of red herrings, I guess? They just distracted from the flow of the story and solution of puzzles.
The game overall has a good design and structure, and probably plays fairly well in the original language. If the developers tighten up the game controls, focus on NPCs and objects that move the plot along, and fix the language and voice acting issues, I think the series has potential.
I make a point of only reviewing games that I have 100% completed - I feel this gives me enough information to judge a game fairly. Please keep this in mind as your go through my review for Slap Village, a game which I unfortunately cannot fully recommend BUT I do think you should buy it so that this company can generate enough income to carry on making games and improve themselves for upcoming chapters. From what I saw MonkeyToons is a smaller company that has not made many games for the PC so lets try to be constructive.
1. Voice Acting and Translation
When I started my game up everything was in Spanish which is odd as I'm purchasing the game in Africa. With the exception of Equatorial Guinea Spanish is not spoken pretty much anywhere on the continent. Generally it's standard for Steam games I purchase to start up in English. I thought well perhaps this game was developed in Spanish originally and was later translated to English. As I played through the game I found I was right with several examples of bad translation to English and voice acting where accents resulted in mispronounced words. Is this a bad thing? Not really but it is noticeable and would bother some people. For me personally, I enjoyed the voice acting but would recommend to the developers having more variations of certain lines. For example, when your lead character says 'Goodbye, have a nice day' perhaps have it that sometimes she says, 'Cheers, was nice seeing you.' or 'Bye, thanks for the chat.' or whatever. Several lines were repeated over and over which was a bit frustrating but because this game is short, it didn't impact my gameplay too much. If this was a longer game, it would have been a problem for me.
2. Puzzles
Most of these puzzles are good and some resulted in little cut scenes which I enjoyed. Some puzzles are however illogical and/or pedantic. I can't think of many PNC that only have great puzzles but I don't often come across ones that lack logic. This didn't happen all the time but there were about 3 puzzles where I genuinely didn't understand why my actions resulted in any change. Perhaps it was lost in translation? Some puzzles can be finicky with where you must click on the screen as if you are a surgeon of PNC's and being even 1cm away would result in catastrophic death.
3. Comedy
This game made me chuckle a few times and had a combination of random humour, racial stereotypes, fart jokes and pop culture references. Some of it was funny, some of it wasn't but humour is very subjective. If you watch the trailer and think it looks funny, it probably will be funny to you.
4. Story and Characters
One thing Slap Village got right is characters. All characters a distinguishable and have their own identity. This does not necessarily mean that they are great characters but they do what they need to do to tell the basic story. Overall the storyline did not leave me wanting more in fact parts of it I had very little attachment to. You can also see this when you look at the global achievement stats. As the bulk are story based it's interesting to see that at the start of the game 78% of people had unlocked the first achievement but only 38% had unlocked the last. Many people lost interest and stopped playing and I feel it was mostly due to the story. It's also important to remember this is not a long game - it would take 2 - 3 hours to finish. There is however opportunity in future parts to tell a well rounded story with these characters.
5. Achievements and Collectables
This was really on point - well done! Achievements are unlocked through the story with a few easter egg like achievements and some around a mini game where you race on a pig to catch a train. As you complete a minigame in the story, it unlocks in an arcade you can access on the starting menu. You'll also unlock a cutscene gallery as well as a figurine gallery where new characters are unlocked as you progress. The extra's for this are actually amongst the best I've seen in the Indie PNC genre and it was considerate of the developers to put this in. One thing though is that there are no Steam Trading Cards.
6. Animation and Design
The Animation is quite good. I love the thick outlines and the overall look of the characters. It makes me think of 90s Cartoon Network which I would have an attachment to as I grew up with it. It's not as good as any of those but it certainly draws inspiration from it which I appreciate. One particular cutscene was beautifully animated and I could see that there were talented people behind it.
7. Replayability
This game has no replay value BUT this is standard for PNC's. The only PNC's I make a point of going back and replaying every few years are amongst the best in the genre.
So yes, it's not the best PNC you'll ever play but there is potential for these developers and it's only $10. Give a try, you'll spend one lazy afternoon going through this world and just maybe chapter 2 will redeem the series.
Slap Village is definitely an experience. I was immediately charmed by the characters and the art style, but often felt like my short-term objectives were unclear. The game also has a very specific style of humor, and sometimes the solutions to puzzles depend on that style of humor, which can feel immensely frustrating. Overall, though, it's still a pretty solid game, and I'm definitely curious to see what a sequel will bring to the table.
Poor voice acting
As a massive lover of pnc games, I thought I would try this one. I just can't get passed the terrible voice acting to spend time on this, seriously it is awful and I am having to refund for the first time in 1400+ games. Nice attempt at a game, but with abysmal voice acting, this is not for me. I have every single pnc on Steam and have been playing them since the Amiga days, this is by far the worst voice acting I have come across to date. The main character is fine, the rest of the characters are horrible, even the grammar used is poor at times.
My Score - 2/10
Terrible voice acting. The male voice actors are not native English speakers and pronounce words so incorrectly, that it is hard to understand what they mean. The various screens take way too long to load and there isn't much humor or emotion in the plotline. The game is also only one chapter and should be priced at less than $2 because it has really low quality production. Buy a different Point and Click Adventure game from a better publisher.
This is a very entertaining point and click game (be aware that this is the "First Chapter" and can be completed in 5 hours). The cartoon animation throughout the game is visually appealing. The voice acting is done well. There are points in the game that you get lost (like any other point and click game), where you find yourself clicking on the overworld map and jump from place to place to see if certain things have changed. Additionally the price point for the game is expensive and I suggest waiting for a sale (as I did).
Slap Village is funny and entertaining. Those who purchase the game will enjoy it.
I thoroughly enjoyed this 3rd person point-and-click game.
I see only two things that could have been better:
1) The running around in Slap Village was sometimes a little boring - just to figure out what has changed and where (character woken up, gift arrived etc.)
2) I had a lot of Spanish subtitles in my English language game - this should be fixed.
Otherwise a very nice and polished game that kept my interest throughout. Also the few "action" parts of the game were solvable for players who are not experienced with such types of games.
First off, unlike most other reviews, I did buy this game because I love western themed games like Westerado and the Westward games. This was hit and miss and not worth $15. The game just felt incomplete and there were objectives that seemed important that you basically skip. This brings the point that this is only chapter one...for 15 bucks.
The game is also a vague one that expects you to click and travel until you find the next pertinent thing to interact with- which is fine as a challenge but you will spend alot of time wondering around through scenes that have very few interactive points or npcs. You expect there to be many things to interact with due to the visuals but a play through leaves you basically a lost traveller randomly clicking.
Overall it just wasn't fun because once you get into a groove solving things you end up spending a half hour jumping scenes. I am the type that has to finish a game once started but I can't recommend it at $15. This game was obviously produced in a Spanish speaking country from the credits and starts you out with a mix of Spanish and English dialogue and subtitles (that you can change in the menu) so maybe it's a good language teacher ---and honestly thats what it felt like---someone had to say it. No bueno...
Slap Village is a Wild West point-and-click adventure game where you play a young girl named Luriditas. Even though it uses a cartoon art style, it is very distinct with very detailed areas. The various characters you come across are unique, to the point where you can recognize them by the outline (and most likely their voice and how they speak). Slap Village has a very fluid and consistent animation. This game may be colourful, but it balances it well enough to where it doesn't strain your eyes after long periods of time.
Slap Village's story can easily hook you in during the first few minutes, and easily draws you in the more you unravel what is going on in the country Luriditas resides in. The various problems you need to solve requires you to think outside the box, and most of the time you will find the solution is right in front of you! It features good humor and minigames that will unlock as the story calls upon them, while making room for references to pop culture.
The dialogue (English) dub is well made, with some awkward moments (and pronunciations) but it doesn't take away from the experience. I'm guessing this was originally a Spanish game translated to English, based on some leftover punctuation marks, but that shouldn't turn you away as it is still made well.
The only problems I have came across is a misplaced dialogue, and some before me has come across bugs that halt their progress, but it has been fixed pretty quickly.
Slap Village is very enjoyable and the mechanics are well rounded. If you like the art style, this game genre, and/or have been on the fence on getting Slap Village this game will be a great addition. I highly recommend playing Slap Village.
