Absolver: Downfall Expansion
Absolver: Downfall is a new, free expansion for the online melee brawler that brings a new game mode, new combat style, new school challenges, and a fistful of new gear for Prospects and Absolvers.
Downfall Mode: Absolvers will face their toughest challenge yet as they battle through the new Adalian Mines as a solo warrior or in online cooperative play. Each run through the procedurally sequenced mines and temples offers a unique path through a variety of challenges against upgraded enemy combatants and three intense boss fights.
Faejin Combat Style: The nw Faejin Combat Style blends defense and offense with percussive strikes and fluid power. The new approach is a complex style for experienced Absolvers, featuring shifting defensive abilities and two dozen attacks for bare hands, wargloves, and armed combat.
School Challenges: Absolvers who have reached the Disciple rank in a school can participate in School challenges, by using their school’s decks and powers in 1v1 Combat Trials. All wins representing one’s school count in the School challenges, with individual and collective performances of the schools bringing fresh rewards every three weeks, at the end of the season.

GREAT GAME
hm
If you are looking for any PvE in this game there is only about 2-3 hours worth of story progression then its over hundreds of hours getting combat trail up if you don't have a friend to go through you as you will be waiting 10-15 mins for a fight in the combat trails, since there is barely anyone one playing and the people that are they are most likely fighting the just random NPCs. If you do get someone in the combat trails good luck as the people who still play it have most likely been play for years or so and they just combo you were you can't do anything. If you want to fight the bosses again you NEED to do combat trails. I do not like this game for the fact that i was expecting it to have a longer story with fights instead of run to this area kill the mini boss and boss then leave. As of the time i wrote this review it had 36 players as 24 hour peak 11/15/2024 11:54am.
Very fun if you appreciate different fighting styles and gives you the freedom of mixing up different abilities from different martial art styles!
Mainly dead but awesome as always.
best fighting game around, nothing else like it. just wish there was more players
*ss game made by pea sized brain developers, they'll never know how to make proper registration
either stop making games or just die already, nobody even plays your garbage anyways.
Very fun cool masks i was whoopin some A** in this game ngl, online was fun also
Honestly one of the best fighting games I've ever played. I bought this game for the xbox when it released and have around a hundred hours on there. The game has no players now and hasn't had any for a while but I recommend it still if you want to see a different and great take on how a fighting game plays. The game has a four directional stance that decides which moves you can use and allows you to choose each move for every attack allowing you to make a custom moveset. Each player can also choose a style of fighting that gives them the option of either parrying, dodging, absorbing, or special attacks. Because of this each player has an entirely unique way of fighting that makes for memorable duels. The customization for this game is great too and has a lot of good options to make your guy look cool. The campaign is great but only a few hours long so if you want to play multiplayer after you'll probably have to join a group or see if you can get anyone during peak hours on the weekend. If you can get the game cheap I'd recommend it for even just the campaign though it's only a few hours.
this was fire when it dropped. if you can somehow still find matches or get it with a friend or something i would recommend this
Absolver is a classic. I give it an 8/10. If you are someone who enjoys pvp then you should give it a try.
To be honest there is not much to the base game, and an average person will be able to beat the pve content in less than ten hours, and getting the 100% takes around 50 hours. That being said, Absolver has engaging pvp mechanics that are deep but not overly complicated and contributes to an overall satisfying feel. The graphics are highly stylized and that helps them to not feel too outdated.
This is a pretty good and unique fighting game but sadly , its very PVP focused in the end of the day so sadly, I refunded it.
I'm hoping they would make a game with same combat system but with more focus on PVE or introduce more indepth PVE content to this game. I heard about the Absolver plus , etc but still doesn't seem to make the PVE really worth it from what I've seen. At least not in comparison to PVP content.
Before you tell me Sifu is that. No, this game's combat system is different from Sifu.
For starters , you unlock moves by learning it from NPC enemies here and can learn it from other players , too.
It also seems to follow a show don't tell sort of lore unlike Sifu which has a more direct lore. I happen to like the former more than the latter since it gets your mind and imagination going in building up the story.
The 102 minutes I played of this game on PC before I refunded , I did immensely enjoy the gameplay , animations and art style. The controls were also simple enough to grasp and smooth but the skill ceiling seemed very high and indepth.
However, upon checking more about the PVE and realizing the game boils down to PVP , I realized its not really for me sadly specially that steam charts say that around 40 players only play this game nowadays so odds are I'm going to end up having to play against loyalist elites who know every nook and cranny in the game leaving less chances for casual PVP to me. I don't like sweating in PVP not in fighting games at least but if you're into PVP , you might enjoy it here. The community seemed to be cool and welcoming as well but again seem to be very PVP focused.
great martial arts system, but not very long
This game is surprisingly good. Definitely something I would call a hidden gem.
I could never recommend a game more. Its my favorite multiplayer game of all time. Sadly didn't get the love it deserved due to them needing to work on other projects. Still has a small but very dedicated community. If you're considering it please give it a try.
10/10
Combat feels good when you get yourself a good deck. id argue Absolver is better than SIFU. that being said, im not sure i like the idea of restricting the usage of the same move in a deck. I tried to have a boxer archetype but due to the limitation i couldn't fill up all my slots with the moves i wished to use.
Wilx100% (May 28, 2024) - Absolver was game I played back in like middle school and kinda played a lot then stopped then played it again, rinse and repeat. Only reason I did that is because the game was super short, you could finish the game in like in a day if you were skilled enough (I was not lol). Anyways the fighting in this game is amazing, I really do love it, you have over 100+ moves that you can learn and make combos out of. The story was a little meh it was lacking a lot and not much content after finishing the game either. But it's because Sloclap kinda stopped working on the game, this game really had a lot of potential and I wish they really did continue this game. They kinda did continue with this TYPE of game in Sifu but won't go more into that game. Either way if you are interested in quickish little game with a lot of fighting and parrying and really learning/timing you moves this game is for you, the community has died down a lot since I was a kid so expect long wait times for ranked PvP and seeing the same 10ish people over again (mostly og veterans that still play the game to this day), good luck! I would rate this a 6.9/10.
The game won't launch.

This game is honestly one of the best martial arts based games I've ever played, which may or not be saying something considering the distinct lack in the genre. As a martial arts enthusiast myself however, it's really great to see a game play into some really great aspects of the martial arts, and with a somewhat fair amount of accuracy as well. While it's obviously not a perfect representation of fighting and there are obviously a fair amount of creative liberties taken, it's still nice to see that some time was obviously taken to keep at least some aspects fairly true to life.
It's also very cool to see the amount of liberties the player is granted with how they choose to customize not only their character, but their fighting style as well. There are so many moves to learn and different combinations to create that the possibilities almost feel infinite, and it's a really cool process finding what flows well for you. The addition of "schools" is also such a cool concept that the developers have put in, and while I haven't played with it much yet I most certainly intend to give it a try on later playthroughs. This game is the definition of "easy to learn, but hard to master" and I think that's one of the many reasons I love it so much. I sincerely look forward to continuing to play and get better and maybe eventually having a school of my own one day, and if I'm lucky maybe even putting some these moves into practice in real life one day as well.
To the Devs, you guys have truly created a unique and exciting game experience in a genre that is severely lacking just that, and I thank you for it. I truly look forward to spending more time on your game, and I'm sorry I haven't spent more time on it before. Keep up the great work, and I can't wait to see what else you have to offer. From the bottom of my heart, thank you for creating this masterpiece.
Sincerely,
One Huge Fan.
Be slow be a man.
this game was really good when it was active but the devs literally abandoned this game for sifu which im mad cause they made sifu and i thought it was bad, i acutally enjoyed it. they just left the wiki half made and just left the game to rot with the only real thing that gave people to get better or play with the dropping player count was downfall which the pve is good, i just wish there was more attention to the game cause its sad to see an amazing concept and mechanics go to waste with a understandable copyright strike if anyone tries to revive this. i hope they bring this back. thought i do recommend this game i cant give it the positive cause of how they dropped it.
need honey packs

game BLOWS, dont buy it, I wanted to play multiplayer but you have to do dumb stuff to unlock it. Also if youre reading this whenever you are, when I played it A YEAR AGO the game was dead so yeah.
My favourite game that I got out of PS+ when I was subscribed to that. There's nothing else like it in the fighting genre and I hope with the success of Sifu that we can see some form of sequel.
7/10
A Prospect walks into Adal and becomes the greatest warrior in the empire.

Performance
Generally, this game rarely has any significant performance issues, as long as you're not trying to play it on a thirty year old PC. Crashes and bugs are infrequent as well. Specifically, the occasional crash I did experience occurred only when attempting to play Downfall (the game's Online PvE mode) or when attempting to activate the crossplay function. During the normal course of my playtime, I didn't encounter any other crashing.

Narrative
Absolver's writing and world-building is decent. Don't forget that this is first and foremost an online martial arts game, not a true RPG. There isn’t much in the way of actual story. However, what little there is follows the “show, don’t tell” methodology, which I have always been extremely fond of. The world isn’t littered with notes and logs for you to collect, nor are there NPCs walking around with the sole purpose of idly spewing exposition. The player is told the bare minimum in the beginning and then again at the end of the major plot. Everything in between is more implied than actually presented.Further enforcing the "show, don't tell" technique of storytelling, there’s no spoken dialog in the game, only paralinguistic vocalizations. Short subtitled cutscenes appear at the beginning and end, as well as before every major boss fight. Aside from that, you're free to just run around and fight whomever you want to. The music is also fairly good, but nothing special.

Gameplay
In terms of mechanics, it's a unique game. At least, it was when it released. You learn moves and create your own fighting style and patterns in order to best your opponents. The gameplay is similar to that of For Honor, but with some deckbuilder elements. I find myself picking it up and replaying it every few years, and will play for a few hours each time. I've even bought it for three different consoles.

Cost
I would not buy this game at full store price, especially with the online services being in the state they are now. If you can snag it from a discount site or as part of a bundle, I would definitely suggest doing that! The most I'd probably spend on it by itself is $10-15 (USD). Anything more would be excessive. (Though, to be fair, between the three copies I've bought I've probably spent about $50 on this game in total. So, maybe my opinion on the price isn't a fair one.)

Summary
After having gone back to replay this game after having completed Chronos: Before the Ashes, I realized that these two games share a lot of elements. Obviously, the combat in Chronos is much simpler – to an almost offensive degree – but in terms of their plot, narrative arc, and level arrangements/designs there are some serious similarities. Seeing as how this game came first, I suppose it deserves more credit than Chronos.
My recommendation also comes with a considerable caveat:
[*]This game is marketed using its unique multiplayer system. As of the writing of this review, however, said multiplayer is essentially dead on PC. And a word of warning, the cross-play engine has been shut down, so if you attempt to turn it on, your game will crash. So, if you're only interested in playing with other people, I'd suggest finding players either through the Subreddit or playing with friends.

|----------|| [10/10] Massive fun!
Amazing game I loved playing it even with broken AZERTY controls at release <3
cool as hell very nice 3 hour game!
This Game has sapped the life out of me, and I haven't even gotten into the PvP that is the main focus of the game. Genuinely one of my favorite games ever. Love the art style and the combat that makes my adrenaline go crazy. 10/10 would recommend to literally anyone if only for the sake of getting more people to play this game.
Surprised I've yet to review one of my favorite games ever made.
Absolver has always been one of my favorite games in both gameplay and style.
The lore, the aesthetics, everything about the world is something I wish we had more of.
The gameplay is phenomenal and one of my favorite fighting systems ever created, really giving that "becoming a master" feeling when you sink in the time to learn moves.
The story unfortunately holds back the reigns, and is quick and not explained well at a first playthrough. Nevertheless, what we have is something I wish was fleshed out more.
While Sifu is a hit, it doesn't hit the same notes for me that Absolver does. I really hope they revisit the IP in their next game or a future game down the line, as the potential for this to be a truly expanded upon experience both gameplay and story-wise is incredibly high.
PLEASE Sloclap, I'm on my KNEES.. BEGGING for Absolver 2 or something akin to it.
If only this game is not dead, would be fun as hell rather than roaming around and think you are bruce lee
i love this game so much T-T
Amazing art style, cool setting, and martial arts. Too bad it doesn't get updates anymore.
This game is incredibly fun, satisfying, and difficult. Parrying is difficult yet rewarding and the endless skills and combos you can do is amazing. The boss battles are close to just very power standard enemies but even just walking around fighting ai never gets old.
Unique
Big Swingy fight game
As someone who has played 12.4 hours of this game, it is truly one of the most special games I've ever touched. I'm nowhere near 'good' at Absolver, but oh MAN do I love this little game.
The Community so far has been really chilled out and kind. I love this game, and ever since watching tourney replays on YouTube, I just can't quite get enough of it. The game can be a bit difficult to queue up if you're playing with randoms, but there are a couple active discords spread out across the lands.
If you love fighting games, GET THIS GAME. It will not disappoint you, there's no other game like quite like this.

ngl this game lit asf, didnt get the hype it deserved.
dead game, cant level combat trials becuase you need to get 50 pvp arena wins to progress which is going to take you years in this state.
It's dead, but the single player experience is still ALMOST worth it (recommended if it's on sale, otherwise $30 is a laughable price for an abandoned online only game). Extremely profound fighting mechanics, and while I haven't played Sifu yet, I feel like I can confidently say there will never be a game that does the atmosphere, world-building, and depth of combat like Absolver.
Great Game, amazing customisation, bring it back!
played it on a cracked version before i got used to buying in steam, otherwise glad to get it, though need the bundle bought on full price due to country diffs, though i still got the small book of guides i wrote when i was playing it
While some features feel a bit gimmicky (i.e. cant parry and dodge/avoid like Sifu and having to grind enemies for moves), I do enjoy the mix of Soulslike, For Honor, and martial arts. I wish the devs would update the game or make a sequel. Sifu did really well so I hope that another multiplayer/coop game comes out
I love how other players are able to beat the brownies out of you, bring you back to life to then BEAT YOU DOWN AGAIN AND REV YOU TO REPEAT THE F***ING CYCLE OVER AND OVER BECAUSE THEY CAN STUN LOCK YOU!!!! GAME SUCKS MORE THAN A FRENCH WH*RE... But the solo plays are pretty solid.
Pretty good game but the activity is dead so I cant recommend it in 2024 since you need multiplayer to level up your combat trails level.
Short game, very in depth. I can see myself playing this on the hundreds of hours and not fully grasp the mechanics.
Game is still surprisingly active. Even if your region isn't super active you can always look up active clans on Discord.
this games slow, clunky, with unfair mechanics leaning towards the enemies, instead of fair fighting in the first fucking place, by the time you get any more moves you're entirely sick of the ones you had to repeat 20 million times, no reward is worth this bullshit, and the amount of equips that drop with downright shit stats and 0 improvements over and over again is downright sickening, mobs cheat hits, animations, laghit, even when theyre bots, where lag should not at all exist, still does, hits that shouldnt hit still hit, hits that have been dodged still hit, the expansions are worthless, cuz you never made a functional base game, you dont even have jumping, which is like a bare essential to any game the past 20 fucking years. Your pathing is horrid, your objectives are unfindable, there is no waypointing or any functional mapping that is at all aimed at a fluent progression, with 1 stage to play endlessly being 20 million times worse than 40 games doing the exact same concept, i suppose its kind of an accomplishment to be 100% more shitty than ALL of them. And even on top of that they decided to make this clunkyass slow shit game involve a speed altering mechanic that is entirely bullshit cuz even at fastest you're still too fucking slow to land a proper hit, enemies get stamina and defense where its impossible for you to if the roles are reversed, and they are entirely bullshit on any mechanics that involve taking any damage, draining any stamina, and fucking you sky high with cheaty bullshit that shouldve had them die in hell 20 million hits ago, you didnt try anything for this game. not a functional world, not a playable game, not even a fluent experience, its like all you tried is to take every aspect that could be dynamic and bore it to death so much it does it to us now.
