Not a bad game per se but there is much better out there. Many different enemies that spawn randomly make for a good reaction test sometimes - especially when you spawn extra enemies. The ships to unlock play the same, you just put everything into attack and later blast through wave after wave of enemies to grind to the achievements.
Why tf is it 10.99? get it on sale for like .49, gameplay is repetative and boring, story is written by a 13 year old shadow the hedgehog fan, and none of the music feels like it fits in. Do i reccomend? No. Did i revisit it after 2 years after buying to try to beat it anyway? Yes.

It's... kind of cute. It's like the if the emo kind who sat in the corner of the class back in high school decided to make a space game and even if it comes off as a bit cringe sometimes it's not bad. I've been playing shit games for like six months so playing a small game like this that actually isn't terrible is god send.
Sure, it's not the best game, but I can assure you it's far from bad and even has a certain old school charm to it. Hand drawn artwork, voice acting that was probably done by the creators and their friends, a story that despite it's 'dark' undertones is simple and straight forward more or less. While $11 might seem like it's not worth it, it's a fun little pick up even if you just plan on playing in on your breaks between Eden Ring.
Fun as hell on the toughest modes with all the extras engaged, can be a bit grindy though for the achievements as if you play on a higher difficulty you do not get the achievements for the lower difficulties. The boss fights are probably the highlights along with levels 40-49. the Endless level i guess wasn't expecting me to have all of the modes engaged because the game slowed down and then crashed from the sheer amount of projectiles and ships on the screen at the same time.
This game is your average space shoot-em-up with some RPG elements and story. However, the RPG elements are not well-balanced, there are upgrades like giving you a 0,5% damage increase or 0,1% chance of insta killing something. Story is generic, and dialogs aren't that great (voices aren't either). The game can be fun, but the complexity is added by adding massive hit points to all, even the most basic enemies. This makes progress slow and unrewarding.
TL;DR: This game is worth it if you can buy it at a substantial discount. 7.5/10
I bought this game after receiving a coupon for it when I crafted a badge.
I plan on getting all of the Steam achievements, then I'll probably never touch it again.
Pros:
-If you're a fan of classic Shoot-Em-Ups, I think you'll enjoy this game. It has clean mechanics and actually has a story element as well.
-If you're a completionist gamer like me, don't worry. All of this game's achievements are obtainable via a reasonable amount of effort and time, with some taking a bit longer than others, of course.
Neutral Feelings:
-The game can get a bit boring since it's most of the same stuff for 50 straight levels.
-The bosses are laughably easy.
-Although there is a story, it doesn't have too much effort put into it. This is probably to be expected from a Shoot-Em-Up, but if you're looking for a game with intense lore, look somewhere else.
Cons:
-This game is definitely not worth its base-price of $11. If you care about how you spend your money, I only recommend purchasing this game if you can do so at a discount, like I did.
Overall, I give this game a 7.5/10.
Spacey top-down shmup
It doesn't do anything special, and there are quite a few design flaws that make it a chore to play (high enemy hp pools, slow movement, slow pacing, ineffective weapons, enemies with timed invulnerability, 2-direction shooting but 360 degree target space).
If you really must play all shmups ever then maybe go for it, but otherwise there are better things to play.
There is nothing to complain about, nice little game.
I just encountered one issue where it was not possible to maneuver the ship anymore, had to restart the game and the mission several times.
+ changeable controls. Controls with keyboard are fine.
+ a lot of difficulty options
+ RPG-progress-elements
- every aspect of this game utterly feels like cheap shovelware
I guess the RPG-elements, combined with the option to play on a very low difficulty, make this game recommendable to casual players or beginners who would like to try out the shmup-genre.
I don't recommend to shmup-fans and -collectors.
Cool game. I am quiting it just because if you get fire split in your main attack u just screwed and there is no going back.
Thanks for meeting me with the song Sauniks - Escaping Now. cool sound fits with gameplay.
if developers fix skill tree restart or modify, this game will be playeble again for me. I wanna revisit.
A very playable shooter, easy to get all achievements. Upgrading all ships to max will take the most time, but can be done without fuss as you can replay lower levels. I have enjoyed myself very much with this game. Once you have all achievements, the game is over and you won't touch it again.
Pros:
- Good graphics, you can see where to fly (no bullethell)
- Loads of upgrades
- Player upgrades stay when changing ships
- Levels gradually get more difficult
- Good variation in enemies
- Nice bossfights
- good controls (regular shot/laser/homing missiles/turn ship around)
Cons:
- Each level looks sort of the same, only the background is different
- Each level has the same enemies, only new ones will be added sometimes
- It has a storyline, but the graphics of the cutscenes are very simple
again.... every small game has the same mechanics....
just this game.. is better than others..
maybe ill pass with 1+
Generally
Survive in Space is probably the best Just1337 Studio game I've ever played.
Gameplay
Our goal is to complete 50 levels, including 5 bosses. There are four levels of difficulty to choose from and additional modes that make it difficult for us to play. We have to defeat a lot of different opponents, unfortunately too much different than on 50 levels. We also have 5 ships with different bonuses to choose from, which we unlock for completed levels. In addition, we can develop player skills and abilities.
Sound
The sounds that accompany us during the game are cool. Soundtrack is the same as in any other game of this type, except that we can add our own songs to the game
Graphics
Not everyone will like the graphics, but that doesn't mean it's bad. Surely there will be people who really like such graphics in games. Generally, it is better than other games of this type from Just1337 Studio.
Summary
Overall, the game is good, it takes about 5-6 hours to complete all levels. This is not a game that I would like to play every day, but it is definitely good at once.
✔️Nice soundtrack
✔️Interesting opponents
✔️Sometimes it's hard.
✔️Cheap
❌Monotonous
❌Boring
❌Too long
Time of completion: 5-6 hours

This is a simple game, but it's easily worth the dollar I paid for it. I like bullet hell games that are playable. You can upgrade your ship, increase the difficulty which works, and have more fun after you beat it. So many games, when you raise the difficulty, the enemies have more health and your bullets do less damage. In this game, raising the difficulty gives you MORE ENEMIES, making you feel like a total bad @$$ dealing sweet justice to every insect ship across the universe.
Does this game have a story? Idk, I muted it because it was annoying. This game gets two high fives for gameplay and music.
Here is a shmup that does a great deal right and very little wrong. There are player and ship upgrades, many different enemies with unique attacks, three weapons with independent cooldowns, and plenty of difficulty customization options. There's a unique gameplay mechanic where you can flip your ship to shoot the opposite direction, giving more strategic choice about what threats to deal with.
The bad points are mostly ignorable. I have no idea what the story is because I can't understand the voice acting and there's no subtitles. There's very little instruction about the interface but that's no big deal once you get used to it, just don't give up on it early. The name of the game is really stupid. That sort of thing. Levels start to feel repetitive after all the enemy types have been introduced but then, it's a shmup. What do you expect? The game is surprisingly long; after 2 hours I'm about halfway through the 50 levels, and there's still plenty of space to go back and play earlier levels with harder options. I'm not going to, but still. Even 25 levels is long for a shooter like this. If the game stopped at 20 then no one would be complaining about repetitive levels.
Feel free to ignore the tags like "RPG". This is a shooter in almost its purest form.
A battle in space with a very interesting mechanics of development and various enemies and ways to deal with them. There is a story in the game, but it is not so important, so if it does not interest you, after a while, learn not to notice it. There are some disadvantages - for some reason the field in which the ship flies is limited to movement not at the edges of the screen, which can be confused, and the pace of the game is a bit slow for its idea, but otherwise the game is excellent
Great music and good graphics.Addicting gameplay, features and many levels to spend a lot of time playing. Also easy achievements (for achievements hunters). But and this is a big but the dialogs and the story cutscenes are cringy af i skipped most of them
overall: 6.5/10 worth its money (if u have a coupon even better its a hard choice for 5 bucks)
Decent music, amusingly bad voice acting, mediocre animation, and repetitive but palatable gameplay...This would be a recommend due to le cheapness excepts for one big thing: the story is absolutely atrocious. Save your people? Maybe rescue a cute girl along the way? That's a negative, you get to be overwhelmed by a big bad guy who's badder than the final boss! You're the vessel who gets to make the universe even worse rather than delivering it! Sounds great, right? Morality shadier than the underside of a jalopy on a haunted used car lot makes this one get two thumbs down from me. Spend your $0.49 on trading cards or something, this ain't worth it.
Survive in Space is a space shooter that blends Defender's left and right controls with Asteroid's single screen presence. I like Survive in Space, but its still tough to recommend, because the entire game is a grind. The 50 levels that the game boasts are all the same. Each level consists of three waves of enemies, each enemy gives experience that you use to buy upgrades. Even with upgrades, I never feel like I'm making little progress, because each level feels the same.
Like all shooters, you have your basic machine gun, but to make things interesting, there is a fat laser that lasts a few seconds and homing missiles. There seems to be a color coated mechanic where when you're red, the four orbs get tucked close to your ship while when you're red they're far away. Once your a super weapon get used, you need to wait for them to recharge. Since enemies spawn left and right on a single screen, the game has mercy on you and lets you face left or right ala Defender. Because you push a button, that means you can fly right while facing left and vice versa.
You have a versatile set of controls and the game does a good job of explaining them. You can use mouse, keyboard or a controller, but some of the menus seem to need a mouse.
The enemies feel like a good variety and they feel different than other games of the same caliber. The problem is that you see them all on each level, making each level feel the same. To the game's credit, every new level includes a new enemy, but they're always hard to spot when mixed in with the same foes that you've seen for hours. Your foes come at you from all different angles, so you need to stay in front of them and destroy them before they can come at you from awkward positions.
To break up the monotony of what it is, there are boss fights every 10 or so levels. Each boss has several bullet patterns as you fight them one-on-one. These feel like a good diversion among a sea of the same. Its odd that I can enjoy a classic arcade game to no end, but when I feel like I'm locked into a 50 level campaign, it begins to feel like a chore. Perhaps if I took it lighter and not as a goal and just played the game over the span of years I'd feel better about it.
The upgrades come in tiers. You first make a few minor upgrades to each weapon and then make a few major upgrades before the next tier unlocks. The upgrades include shorter recharge, more experience, more damage, vampire health from enemies, the chance to kill an enemy with one shot or do critical damage. Everything makes the game a fraction easier, but its never enough to notice a difference. One of the double-edged swords is the upgrade to split beams. In theory that sounds great, but in practice you shoot in a V which means you need to maneuver around differently when enemies are coming toward you.
On the plus side, you can upgrade your vessel too to do more damage, have better shields, more armor and so on. Since this is a game about killing things, I recommend just pour everything into attack power. The quicker your foes die, the safer you are.
Some of your own attacks are questionable. The strong straight laser feels powerful, but the homing missiles are slow and detonate if you destroy the vessel they were aiming at. So by the time they get to their target, its dead, making the missiles almost useless. Good thing there is an achievement for using them. One thing that the game has going for it are the easy achievements that a low percentage of people have.
Perhaps the most aggravating part of Survive in Space are the cheap deaths that come in two forms. The first are the invisible ships that decloak. You can see them and they move in a slow, straight path, but when it gets chaotic they can decloak in on you. The other cheap death is something similar where a vessel will make a portal. The portal starts small so you can see it... unless you sit and shoot, then the portal opens wide and throws out a vessel. These two cheap deaths are the only time I ever die.
To the game's credit, you can make your own challenge for each level. Its more then difficulty, there are three check boxes for more enemies, fortresses that fly by and shoot at you and asteroids. Yes asteroids fly at you, which makes me feel the Asteroids vibe even more. I have gotten to the point where I am unstoppable so I add asteroids and fortresses. You get extra experience for the extra challenge. More enemies seems to spawn a little too much to handle and when this is a grind, you need to play it safe.
I have avoided perhaps the worst thing about the game and that is the art. In the game, the art is fine, but there are several cut scenes with art that just feels out of place. I am sure someone worked hard on the art, but it cheapens the look of the game. In the end, I'm just there for the arcade experience, so I skip the cut scenes.
Another downside to the game is with your ability to chose between red and blue on the fly means you shoot the same color of bullets. However, enemies fire their own color coated bullets, so if you're red and red bullets are being fired at you, then they just blend in with your own. Now that I've said it, you do have plenty of health and shields to compensate.
If you need a reason to stay in the game longer, there are other vessels to play. That might keep your interest, but after the sheer investment of time into one vessel, its best to just stick with what you know.
In the end, I'm still on the fence if I can recommend it. Its enjoyable, but a chore. Its fun, but there's just too much of not enough. There are other similar games out there, that feel better to play or have more charm or a better look. Survive in Space is still a fun time waster, but I'd like more diversity when I'm playing the same level over and over again with a new hat. For the right price its well worth the risk to see if you enjoy it.
