Works perfectly on linux-steam, proton enabled from steam compatibility. At least v3.7-8.
Several another versions did not launch or mouse lag.

stil doesnt run properly on windows 10 or 11 , the gog version works
Unplayably slow!!! The lag is so crazy that making it through the first stage is tedious enough, and that's controlling only one character. It's such a shame because I used to love playing this game as a kid and really wanted to replay it, but it seems like it doesn't run at a passable speed or even close on steam. I'm going to keep trying to find patches and such to see if I can speed it up, but if you're playing it as it comes from the steam store, don't expect an enjoyable experience. Really a shame it doesn't run more smoothly because it's an excellent game when it does!
Aaah yes! The game where you perfectly plan everything and end up knocking out half of the town.

One of my favorite games
Maybe the idea of this game might be interesting.
However, the clumsy controls just ruin any gemeplay experience. The game heavily relies on "point and click" - and the "pointing" just is the problem.
There is a patch which transports the game to current systems (both hardware and software), but of course the game still looks ugly, and again: With that awful controls, I don't play it.
This release requires a fix for WinX to run at "normal" FPS. Which is better than without it. The problem is that the "normal" FPS for this game made for 15" CRT screens is 20.
It is a commandos-style real time tactics game, so most of the gameplay is just one giant .bmp picture with tiny soldiers running on it. But moving the camera with that framerate is still crappy.
If you can survive that, this is one of the best games ever made. The aforementioned .bmps are absolutely beautiful, the best at the time of the release. And then there's a storyline and a theme to this game. The missions are fun the gameplay is awesome. And then there's the additional layer of a camp where recruits produce goods for your heroes and also you can take them on missions. The game strongly encourages harder non-lethal runs to get more recruits.
At the time of the release it was one of the best games ever made. But today it all depends on how long you can tolerate the pre-millennium tradition of the 20 FPS lock with the game logic tied to the framerate.
This game is great but DO NOT BUY IT ON STEAM the stem edition is horrible and will not work. The screenshots they use on the title are not even from this actual game but one called desperados. Buy it somewhere else they butchered it for steam
