Blast from the past- 1997
The game's been minimally modified to be compatible for Windows 11 and retains a bunch of bugs from the day. Disable any second monitors for compatibility reasons- I haven't seen anything else so far that stands out as game breaking.
Overall- One of a few exemplars of the Strategy-Action (Str'action) phase of the time.
It's a good game, but this version just does not work - crashes and stuttering all the time, sad. (I know it's old)
A quality old game. Fun and challenging. I played when I was a kid and the combination of FPS, RTS and RPG was a lot of fun. Bought it to try it again, and it still scores well in my book.
RPG: You buy tech upgrades for both your FPS weapons and your RTS units/buildings. Makes progression a lot of fun.
RTS: You are building different types of production or energy buildings at sites throughout the maps, which give you units you can deploy as needed. Scarcity of build sites creates strategic decisionmaking.
FPS: You're a tank that has full maneuverability, and you run around and shoot stuff and blow things up. Although most of your combat is more about calling in units to do the fighting for you, you are still constantly firing your lasers and missiles and swapping between weapons.
Graphics are obviously 90s graphics, but if you buy this on a sale, you are paying very little for a fun 20 hours of gameplay. Its worth it in my experience for a fun and challenging game.
