I played this experience on Vive Infinity before, and now I got it for my Steam library and revisited it again. It's an excellent experience to explore such a massive historical aircraft and witness its tragic disaster.
The ship is modeled with great detail, and the graphics are quite realistic, even though the textures are low resolution and grayish, as if they came from old video footage. So, the photogrammetric effect adds to the atmosphere of the time period, which is cool.
- A+ Learning
- Can use the zeppelin as donkey dick
- Having the interior modeled is really cool but this sim freaks me out like crazy for some reason once I teleport inside.
This was supposed to do just two things to get a positive review out of me: Recreate the Hindenburg with high historical accuracy, and let me be on board while it crashes.
However, it does so in the least convenient possible way, especially considering modern VR controllers and this game's total lack of support for them.
Dev, if you're reading this, please create a better control profile for the Index, and if possible, implement normal, non-teleport VR movement, and standardize either that movement, noclip flying, or both as the way to navigate the experience across all modes.
This is a great game for any airship history buffs. It's the most accurate full-scale replica of the Hindenburg we're likely to ever see, and you can even be aboard it while it crashes! But putting aside that the graphics are horrible (which I don't fault the dev for), it has serious accessibility and control issues, and is horrifically dated back to the Vive era, and not up to snuff for modern SteamVR headset control schemes, like the Index. Besides that, and a desire to be granted more freedom with exploring the model (particularly during the disaster), this is a great experience that scratches any massive-blimp lover's itch thoroughly.
I've had this app for the ipad, and iphone. I'm half a decade late, finding the VR version.
The handheld model is amazing, as is the full sized model.
My only gripes are, that the movement control is counter intuitive. You have to pull back on the thumb stick, and then press in on the thumb stick just to move forward, ONE tick. No, no, no. We can't be doing that. DEV! Please! Fix this! LOL We need smooth, free stepping, in a logical motion of the controller. Forward to move forward, left to move left, right to move right, back to move back, and the diagonals, in between. We shouldn't have to hold the stick in a direction, and then press it in, to move. Not happy about that. The other gripe is that we can't board the Hindenbug whilst it's ON THE GROUND, where we SHOULD be able to board it. Not when it's up in the air! LOL
Other than that, I'm amazed with the detail of the model, and very glad to see the project has been continuing. Looking forward to seeing an update.
I played this, using the Oculus Quest 2, via Steam VR.
The app is a great, educational tool.
THIS STUPID GAME TOOK MY MONEY KNOWING I COULD NOT GET THIS TO WORK I WANT MY MONEY BACK!
HINDENBURG VR on OCULUS and OCULUS QUEST 2
Download Steam app. and install
Purchase Hindenburg VR on Steam
Download Steam VR app. and install
Connect headset to computer via USB C cable
Enable Oculus Link on headset
Select Steam VR app. on headset
Select Hindenburg VR in Steam VR app.
Hindenburg VR loads and works perfectly.
Note: to select an icon in the game, use your right controller, pull the select trigger, reach forward with the pointing finger and touch the icon representing what you want to play. It will turn green and actuate. A number of controls are actuated using the joystick controls, moving them in a direction, and clicking them to select. Enjoy!
In a big sale worth checking out if you are interested in airships.
Positives:
- Always been fascinated with the idea of airships and this is as close as you are likely to get on one.
- Accurately recreated for genuine authentic feeling.
Issues:
- With the Index controllers my hands were inverted but still more or less playable.
- The textures close up are very low-res but the close attention to detail in recreating the Hindenburg from the pictures does somewhat make up for that.
Simple enhancements which would make me recommend:
- I would like a free movement system rather than just teleporting.
- I would like more voice overs, particularly ones that might trigger as you enter different rooms on the airship.
- I would like a 'tourist' mode where the airship appears to fly over various landmarks with you inside.
- Enable us to RC the airship from a scale height or even onboard...
Experienced on Windows Mixed Reality using a Samsung Odyssey Plus VR Headset. Though WMR not officially supported, works fine. Found the resolution keeps defaulting to Medium Resolution as soon as returning to the main menu, also that the Main Menu is orientated to the side rather than in front, and the sound not always working - this may or may not be unique to WMR. This is more a VR model of the Hindenburg rather than a game, but if you have an interest in this historic airship is an insightful experience. On the plus side the ability to look around all the compartments (albeit using teleport, rather than free movement), the disaster complete with the original radio broadcast recording by Herbert Morrison, a Remote Control Model, and the ability to strip down layers of the airship. Graphics could be better (even at High Res), and ultimately a relatively short experience. Feel it a little pricey at the normal price of £9.99, but one to watch for on Steam Sales, On balance would recommend (just).
As a bit of an airship enthusiast I was really impressed with Hindenburg VR experience. The author got every little detail right, including the front and back control center, pathways inside the airship, engine rooms, smoking room, restaurant, A and B passenger rooms and even illustrations on the walls! I visited a Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen, but here I actually learned more details about the Hindenburg internals.
People who are dissapointed with this VR app are probably so because this is not a real game. It is a VR experience, and after you visit every place in the airship and play with scenarios (Hindenburg disaster and RC Hindenburg) there is not much else to do. It took me below two hours to finish everything. Still, I am interested in the topic, so it was good use of my money.
I originally bought/returned this title about a year ago and recently repurchased on sale with more content. Definitely worth the sale price now - walking from an engine pod to the smoke room answered a lot of questions I never knew I even had. Relaxing in the Promenade amid fire and fury was suprisingly replayable, and walking around a zeppelin at night with a flashlight was'nt as pointless as it sounds. Sadly, my original reason for returning still stands...the textures are shockingly low-res. This could have been a truly epic download with normal quality textures. Having said that, I can affirm that it is now worth keeping...
I mean... I like that someone made this for VR, as a history buff...
But there's like 5-10 minutes of gameplay, with the worst graphics I've seen in VR yet. Wouldn't be impressed if this were a free app, but for the cost of this??? Even on sale?
Save your money.
I've always heard of the Hindenburg disaster, but I never truly thought about the mechanics of the airship. This title allows you access to every inch of the ship and even has models standing at their posts just like a real crew would. Comprehending the complexity of maneuvering this machine was an amazing realization, and ultimately increased the dread I felt putting myself in the shoes of the crew and passengers that were present during the disaster.
Excellent narrative gives you an incredible amount of info on the ship's history, operation and other cool info. There are other experiences outside of the exploratory narrative. You can witness a reinactment of the disaster from ground view (very sobering experience). You can stand alongside it in the hangar to get a sense of scale. You can even pilot a little RC Hindenburg. It does some pretty unique stunts that I don't think the original crew could duplicate. :D
Great simulation. I really enjoyed exploring the Hindenburg and getting a feel of what the experience was like. Please do more historical things like this!
This is an interesting experience and I did get a sense of the enormity of the Hindenburg. It was neat to see the sleeping areas, bar, lounges, cat walks, engine compartments, and other areas in scale. I would like to see more instruments and detailed textures. I would also like to see human figures on the ground to help perceive height and scale.
Overall, I was happy with this purchase.
Pretty cool experience. Controls are not the greatest. Improving the graphics/textures would be nice. Other than that it was fun roaming through this historical airship. It really shows what VR has in store for the future as far as eductional experiences go. There are other places to go and see than just the airship, including a mini hangar-museum that details what this airship was all about. Pretty rad.

Excellent, if like me you are a fan of airships. Really gives a sense of scale that you could only get in VR (or the real thing). Obviously early access with some low res placeholder graphics. I hope the dev sells enough to bring it up to full potential with full res graphics throughout and scenery you can fly over. But it was well worth the money to me as is.
On the hole a generally enjoyable experience. I do hope the developer updates this experience later on as there is a lot of lost potential.
Please allow normal walking options (my personal pet peeve) the current move setup forces you to clip through walls and floors
Better textures,
Different scenery options would really go well to give a better idea of scale and speed (good examples would be flying over the pyramids and the titanic, inside the hanger and at its maximum altitude.
Animations for the crew and passengers.
Maybe add information points around the ship (toggle on and off) so you can explore the ship at your leisure.
It was enjoyable, though basic. A little over priced but since it appears the developer is small and potentially has a small number of people interested in the Hindenburg, I can see why it is priced as such.
The textures are not detailed enough and need work. The ship is actually very well done, overall.
