Honest to god I expected to like this game as a generally safe JRPG to play to only get fan service censored NSFW shit....probably not buying another Neptunia game again. I tried my best to like this game, I bought this game to play a JRPG not to see fan service shower scenes bro how is this T rated
Funny story, I had to wait years to play this game since I didn't have the hardware to play it. After waiting and waiting, here we are.
This is easily the best Neptunia game , yes, it's also better than the "best" spinoff you can think of, we got a very long and memorable story that's easily the second best in the series, and they fixed most of the problems many people had with the Re;Birth series of games, even tho this game really seems to be based on the PS3 trilogy rather than the "remakes" themselves. That being said, this game is not perfect.
While the gameplay is better than that of the other games, the difficulty here is something to worry about; the early game sucks, you can't really grind or get very decent gear, so you never have the advantage during the Zerodimension arc . Unfortunately, the same thing can be said of other segments, at the start of Noire's route you are literally thrown into a dungeon that's just too much for the level she is at, so it's just better to skip all the battles and go to the event right away. I'd say the easiest out of them was Blanc's route , since Rom and Ram happen to be very strong.
Now, when it comes to the late game, you really need to grind with very specific monsters until you are at a decent level, and it's not like in the other games where all the characters level up simultaneously, in this game you need to use chips for that, and I think only one character has that by default, which is crazy and makes the game slower. At the end of the game, you can find a dungeon that has a monster which drops a lot of EXP, the most in the game, even with that, it's not very reliable, after you reach lvl 110, it gets very slow, so aiming for lvl 999 in this game is just pointless, you don't need it to beat the game, in fact, 99 is more than enough, but that's actually good since it doesn't force you to stay there for long. Sadly, the dungeon where the monster can be found is terrible and you need to memorize it or use an external map because it's disabled there, and it's very dark. So overall the gameplay is fine, I love how it feels more "complete", like the game actually feels finished and not a Ctrl + Victory like the Re;Birth trilogy, as I mentioned the difficulty forces you to do stuff that's just annoying depending on the player, but it's still a good experience once you get used to it.... Oh yeah, the world map in this game is terrible, forgot to mention that, I hate the random encounters and how slow it feels. I get it, they were trying to do something different, but I didn't like it.
Getting all the achievements is painful, one of them is literally RNG based and that sucks, while the others are just slow and it's just better to get everything in NG+, including the true ending, So if you are aiming for all the achievements, beat the game with the normal ending first, then start a NG+ save and go for the full clear there, I admire that this is the only mainline game that actually made me want to do NG+ unlike the others, especially since NG+ has better equipment that makes exploring the dungeons easier and faster.
The story was great, while it's not the best in the series by any means, it is very good and I loved the new characters, the plot twist was kinda expected but it was still shocking, the whole thing has an amazing build up, it is that good, and it's sad that Neptunia didn't get a game as great as this one ever since, we shall see if Nep 5 will save us or destroy the franchise.
Overall rating: 7.4/10
I love the new ideas and mechanics, but the execution could have been better, that didn't stop me from enjoying the game as it is, would play again just for the story, I'm not getting those achievements and rare stuff ever again.
A Nep A Day Keeps the bad vibes away!
Megadimension Neptunia Victory 2, commonly mistaken as Neptunia 7 due to people not reading Roman numerals, follows an arc-based story: you complete one arc and move on to the next. There are three endings, one of which is very easy to get, but I'm not going to go into that because SPOILERS, DEARY! This game introduces Uzume, Umio, K-Sha, B-Sha, C-Sha, and S-Sha to the universe, as well as, you guessed it, another Neptune! The combat is a little different compared to its predecessor, Rebirth 3, but it's quick and easy to adjust to the changes.
i suppose i would put negative rating to this game, but since the story was promising, there were couple new mechanic and some improvements and such, then this time, i can leave positive rating for this one.
the only unfortunate thing i didnt enjoy were, ran into a lot of difficulty spikes, and then afterwards, grinding to get the good ending seemed like such a chore. I have to say the experience wasn't worth it. yeah, like really, story can gets intense from time to time but grinding it? probably not worth it.
Yes, there was a point where you needed to farm/grind regular mobs to level up characters from around lvl 25 to 30 or so to unlock the strongest skills necessary to defeat the bosses and advance in the next story, and you had to do this for each faction (four times). It's fortunate that this is the sole instance where you need to grind; it feels unintentional, as if the developers overlooked this moment during their balance testing. I hope all turn-based games didn’t involve grinding and instead focused solely on tactics and gameplay. (normally i hate grinding game into completionist but i can put neptunia series as excepction as i liked the game so much. i just dont like involving grinding to enjoy single player games and not making grinding as focus of chore)
TL;DR
Best Nep, buy if you like Nep, (or any other CPU, or CPU candidate).
If you're new to the series, this may be your best bet to start liking it.
(You may also consider VIIR instead if the issues listed in the below section bother you.)
Overview
Having played all the main Neptunia games, those being the three Re;Birth games, as well as this one (excluding the spin-offs), Megadimension Neptunia VII is by far the best entry in the series in my opinion.
While I did find the story of Re;Birth 1 to be most engaging overall, the incredible amount of grind needed to get through that game is what made me give it the title of "the best game I never want to play again".
On the other hand, the story in VII may be somewhat less immersive, but the relatively low amount of grind, as well as improvements to the mechanics is what made this game worthy of a recommendation.
Story
VII has a fairly creative approach to the story mode - rather than telling the story from start to finish from the perspective of a single character, it is split up into separate sections, within which every major character (CPU) becomes the protagonist at least once.
In each of these story segments (with the exception of some of the later ones), the protagonist is part of a small group of friends traveling together, which gives not only the personality of the protagonists, but also that of their friends a time to shine.
Past games in the series tended to have an issue where particularly energetic or assertive characters would be overshadowing some more reserved ones, so this new focus on different characters was a very welcome change.
This approach is not without its drawbacks however, as the way these segments were implemented resulted in the story feeling somewhat disjointed, and lacking in an overarching goal - while the end goal is not revealed until the final 3rd of the game.
Final section
Speaking of which, the final third is what I considered to be the biggest missed opportunity.
While the first section of the game was great, and the second one was still good, in the final one, the writing just seemed rushed, without much consideration for anything.
For example, the way the main antagonist's motivations are revealed is literally via a 5-10 minute monologue, in which she explains her entire backstory, as well as her grand plan of what she wants to do and why.
At that point, the game would've already had around 30 hours to gradually and indirectly reveal these things to the player, but it chose to reveal almost nothing during the second major section, only to then reveal everything all at once close to the end.
Finally, the question of antagonist's powers also appears to have been an afterthought, since she is supposed to have near infinite power, except when that would make it impossible for the protagonists to win, at which point her powers are nerfed to give them a fighting chance... at least that's how it appeared to me, unless I missed something.
Example: At one point she brags about being able to create an infinite number of enemy monsters... but she never does so, even though she would win if she did.
Good mechanics
Compared to the previous games, dungeons and combat have seen some significant improvements - there are a lot of new dungeons, a sizable amount of which are a lot bigger than before, as well as additional tactical options in the turn-based combat, based on the characters' position on the battlefield.
The new travel method involves stepping over a varying number of connected "nodes", depending on distance (much like a board game), rather than teleporting, which made the game feel more grounded as well.
Issues
However, this wouldn't be an "Idea Factory International" game if there weren't also a sizable number of questionable design choices.
(It is worth noting that a lot of of the following appear to have been addressed in the VIIR version of the game, which may be worth considering over this one.)
- Traveling has a chance of a random encounter on each node you step on, which itself becomes tedious quick, but also your destination is not saved upon an encounter, meaning that you have to re-select your destination after every single random encounter on the way (extremely tedious).
- Negative status effects (poison, skill seal, etc) persist after battle, but positive ones (EXE drive) do not, which was the reverse in previous games.
- Characters no longer recover health after leveling up.
- Characters who are not active by the end of a battle do not level up (this is particularly annoying, since it makes certain characters uselessly weak after not using them for a while, including story-based sections where you cannot use them).
- You no longer heal when leaving a dungeon, but only after traveling to a city.
- The amount of each item (heal, sp charger, etc) is artificially limited to 30, which when combined with the need to travel back to a city each time to buy new ones can be annoying.
- On rare occasions, enemies can be very unbalanced, leading to some normal (non-boss) enemies being able to wipe out your squad in a single turn if you encounter a large number of them.
[*]On at least one occasion (first Giant fight), one of a boss' possible attacks is able to one-shot your entire squad regardless of how they are positioned - the only way to win is for the boss not to use that attack.
Linux
While there are issues with running this game on Linux, it is possible to do so.
First, it is important that you use Proton-GE when launching the game for the first time.
(You can use ProtonUp-Qt from Flathub to dowload the latest version, then select it in the Steam settings for the game under "Compatibility".)
If you first launched the game using a non-GE Proton version, make sure you clear all your game preferences first.
After launch, Proton-GE will download the required dependencies to play the game (about 1.1 GB worth) - this can take a while, and the game will report itself to be running during that time.
After which, the game should launch and be fully functioning.
(If not, there are manual steps on ProtonDB.)
(You may want to disable Steam Overlay for this game, as some people have reported crashes.)
The only issues I have encountered were consistent frame drops when navigating any menu system, as well as during the (rare) cutscenes.
Most of the game involves either combat or Visual-Novel-style story elements however, which ran without any issue - no crashes either (with Steam Overlay disabled).
Much better in terms of Stability than Rebirth 1 to 3.
It's also much smoother to run, and less prone to crashes.
also it doesn't require as much grinding, allowing for a better experience.
game is so good that I've purchased it 4 times(twice on psn, 1 physical copy and now the steam version as well). definitely recommend. just don't go for the platinum if you value your sanity

Gap review after 8 years
Gosh, I played and platinumed this game when I was a teenager. It has outdated gameplay and a niche story that some will enjoy very much (like I did), while others might hate it. Still, I'm viewing it through rose-tintedglasses, as I have fond memories of the time when I played this. I'd say it's a good buy if you enjoyed the meta aspects of the previous games, but proceed with caution
like all neptunia games, too slow for me
I really want to say I enjoyed this game, but I just didn't.
There was a lot of potential for this game to be great: The story was promising, Nepgear really got a boost in her character, jumping actually does something now, and there are some fun new gimmicks that can be used in the dungeons.
Unfortunately, when playing the game for the first time, I ran into a lot of difficulty spikes, and then afterwards, grinding to get the good ending seemed like such a chore. I have to say the experience wasn't worth it.
I will preface this by saying: I'm aware this is a review for a game that's been out for approaching a decade now. Most people who were going to play this game have already done so at this point. With that being said, I'll still give my piece.
As a Neptunia game, it definitely deserves the title of best Neptunia game. The story is incredibly good and engaging, and numerous characters get their own turn to shine. If you've played other Neptunia games and enjoyed them, you'll definitely enjoy this. Uzume, the new character we met, ended the story as possibly one of my favourite neptunia characters of the entire franchise. The antagonists are pretty interesting in their own right, ignoring the usual returnee of Arfoire who feels like she's only in because its Arfoire.
The story itself is split into three distinct arcs. The first is set in Zero Dimension, which was a very strong story from start to finish, with good character interactions.
The second part, by far the longest section, was itself split into 5 parts, one in each nation with a different CPU as the lead, and the last all together. The characters were slightly more scattered, but still very good. Each storyline in here felt different enough from each other to not feel samey
The last part is back to Zero Dimension and by far the shortest. It was pretty good, gave a lot of closure to the various plot points and had some very good speeches and touching moments
My problems with the game are two-fold:
1: Random encounters. Navigating around the map involves your characters 'walking' on routes to various dungeons or other locations. These roads have 'nodes' where you have a chance to encounter a monster. The problem is that this chance is far too high, and when it happens, it entirely ruins the flow of the story. I had a cutscene, needed to travel a couple nodes over to see the second part of that cutscene, but every single node triggered an encounter, forcing me to fight some monsters. I already have to fight monsters in the dungeons and bosses, I shouldn't be forced to fight monsters on what should be fast-travel.
Most annoyingly, NG+ actually gives an item that prevents these encounters. I used it, and the second playthrough was SIGNIFICANTLY more enjoyable. And they obviously knew it would be or they wouldn't have included that item. In which case, just get rid of those encounters in the first place.
2; My other problem with the game; actually getting the True Ending. It is so incredibly frustrating to learn , 60 hours into my playthough, that because I had missed a single, time limited, unmarked, missable quest 20 hours ago, I was locked out of the True Ending with no way to reverse that without replaying 20 hours of game. Then my second playthrough, now actively on the lookout for those quests, I STILL managed to miss one of them because I didn't check the Guild Tab in the exact right transition. Again I didn't know until I got to the end. This is especially eggresious since the only reason I'd do that quest originally is to get Shares, but I had already maxed them, so I had NO reason to do this unmarked random quest among a dozen other identical quests that in no way hinted it was critical to the story in any way.
TL:DR, if you want the True End, use a guide. Don't just try doing everything you see, because miss even a single thing and you're screwed. And then you've wasted 60 hours of careful gameplay.
Overall story rating: 9.5 out of 10
Overall gameplay rating: 4 out of 10
SEGA Dreamcast's tragedy could not be better told. Umio DLC is a must imho.
Imo the best Nepnep game with Rebirth 1, the 3 games idea is really fun even tho it makes the game the hardest game of the series so far
The story is extremly good, the ost is hardly Dreamcast style which means its rock and metal and i love it, Uzume became my new fav Character and lot of elements that made Rebirth 3 so bad was removed and improved.
My fav Nepnep game and i loved the living shit out of it even tho the RNG Card achivment was hell, If you love Nepnep i 100% recommend it

The game apparently can't recognize my xbox controller and seems unplayable with keyboard and mouse...
Maybe not as much of a clear peak as it might seem, but certainly among the better Neptunia games. The bad news is that IF/CH writers still can’t do proper drama or consistent worldbuilding even if it kills them, so whenever the story tries to get serious, it all turns into a painfully generic and unconvincing mess. The good news is that it tries this very rarely, instead spending 95% of the time on what it can do well – that is, lighthearted conversations between characters as they bounce off each other and tell silly jokes. In this regard, VII is a clear success because the cast is more diverse than ever, and while individually most of them are still one-dimensional, when mixed together in different pairings they create dynamic, memorable interactions.
The most pleasant surprise for me was the main duo’s personalities, which felt quite a bit more nuanced and grounded than usual. Neptune actually looks like somebody suitable to be a leader in this game: not just a fourth-wall-breaking gag generator but a very perceptive girl who picks up on others’ mental states earlier than anyone and uses jokes strategically to defuse tensions. Nepgear is also convincing as a self-aware straight man who knows when to step in with logic and when to simply let the silliness unfold. The question of who is the better protagonist may be one of the series’ famous meta gags, but the real answer to it is simple: they become the better protagonist together, covering for each other’s weaknesses and making space for each other’s strengths as proper sisters would.
The central girl Uzume is also quite compelling, but even better is her fish sidekick Umio, which is just one of the most hilarious character concepts I’ve seen, and the way Show Hayami plays him by making his silky voice extra smooth is the icing on the cake. As is common with Neptunia, it seems like a good half of the game’s budget was spent on voice talent, but when you have someone like him or, for example, the original VA of Gundam’s Char flexing as a secondary villain in a cameo role, that sounds like money well spent.
The gameplay is alright, no more and no less. There are clear attempts at variation compared to the Re;Birth trilogy, but the results are mixed, with at least some of them (such as hidden treasures) quickly boiling down to more basic combat. It’s a pleasant, competent basic combat, but the lack of depth can still be disappointing, even if the overall improvement of production values like carefully designed sprites or catchy, memorable tunes does it best to prettify the feel.
However, if it’s simplicity you’re after, Neptunia mainline games are still among the best there is; a comfy, unobtrusive series that knows its own niche well and occupies it with confidence. I just wish we had any idea what its own creators think, since their approach to the franchise even since releasing VII makes about as much sense as its worldbuilding.
In terms of the main story, it's very enjoyable and I'd totally recommend. 100% requires a lot of patience and I personally wouldn't recommend doing it.
This game will Nep you all up!

"This may be the most important post you’ll ever read because it provides a simple explanation about why our world is being destroyed, by design.
I’m not antisem itic nor a N azi. I’m simply a former hacker with great analytical skills who understands what’s happening in the world.
At the end of this post I will quote from a world domination plan. You will recognize the truth immediately because that’s what’s currently happening in the world. Today’s reality suggests that this plan is real.
When you do your own research you will learn that the origin of this plan was discredited and that the alleged creators have nothing to do with it. But who was the person providing the key evidence?
It was allen dulles. The man who raised money from US industrialists to fund Ad olf Hi tler, his Na zi party and his war. The man who later became the director of the CIA during Kennedy and the head of The Warren Commission that investigated the Kennedy Incident. Why would anybody believe a man with such a questionable character?
The protocols of the elders of zion have unquestionably borrowed ideas from several authors but you can say that about most important writings throughout history. It was called a fabrication and is one of the first uses of the term ‘conspiracy theory’.
Why do zionists have a massive over-representation in the media, politics, banking, and world-affairs? How did such a small community get to dominate all the centers of power and information?
Why can isreal ignore UN resolutions, international-law, and commit a genocide in Ga za, to standing ovations in the US Congress? Why is isreal acting like it is above the law seemingly without any fear of consequences.
Read some of the alleged zi onist world domination plan below and compare it with reality. Is all of this just a coincidence?
“Our power will be more invincible than any other, because it will remain invisible until the moment when it has gained such strength that no cunning can any longer undermine it.”
“We shall absolutely control the media, so that not a single announcement will ever reach the public without our control. In this way we shall have a sure triumph over our opponents, for without the media, they are helpless.”
“We will distract the brainless heads with vain conceptions, fantastic theories, rotten amusement, games, and filthy passions, so that they will be unable to use what intellect they have. They will never suspect that they have been stage managed by us.”
“We shall establish huge monopolies, so that all will go to ruin when the political smash-up comes. We must, at all cost, deprive them of their lands, we must lower wages, and raise the prices of all necessities of life.”
“We shall create an economic crisis, which will stop dealings in all exchanges and bring industry to a standstill. We shall throw onto the streets whole mobs of workers, simultaneously, all over the world, who will rush to loot property and delight to shed blood.”
“In our government, besides ourselves, there must only be the mass of enslaved people, a few billionaires devoted entirely to us, police, and soldiers. To do this we must create chaos and hostilities, and we must use all deceit, treachery and falseness, possible. Our greatest weapon is the media.”
“We shall establish one king over all of earth who will annihilate all causes of discord, such as borders, nationalities, religion, state debts, etc., and get peace and quiet which cannot be secured in any other way. To attain our ends we must foment trouble in all countries, utterly exhaust all of humanity with hatred, struggle, envies, torture, starvation, and diseases, so that the people will be forced to take refuge in our complete sovereignty.”
“Our master card has been, is, and shall be, the destruction of all privileges, on the ruins of which we shall set up our absolute autocracy.”

""How the tables have turned in the past decade. If you were involved at the inception of the culture war around a decade ago then you probably remember an abrupt and distinct change in popular media from 2015 to 2016. There was a surge of far-left and feminist propaganda in movies, television, commercials and even video games that was highly aggressive, perhaps even militant. Some people spoke out at the time and questioned the motives behind the trend, only to be smacked down by angry mobs of activists and corporate journalists with accusations of “conspiracy theory” and “bigotry.”
In other words, their claim was that you were not seeing what you thought you were seeing. There was no feminist agenda. There was no gay or trans agenda. There was no socialist messaging. It was only in your head.
If there is one rule that encompasses all political endeavors, it is this: If you have to hide your intentions and lie about your goals when trying to spread your ideology, then something is probably very wrong with your ideology. This is exactly the problem inherent in the attempt to spread woke doctrine – Activists and provocateurs never ask anyone if they want to hear about woke ideas; they seek to force everyone to see and hear woke ideas, to the point that people cannot escape the messaging.
Even more insulting is the fact that even though most of these activists claim to be fans of the media they target, they are usually discovered to be frauds. Woke ideologues have little sincere interest in nostalgia, movie making, video games, comic books, etc. They only care about these properties because they see them as a vehicle to be co-opted, infected and dominated. Leftists know well that if they control pop culture they can control the thinking of the next generation."...

The story, the visuals, the gameplay: everything in this game is so immaculate
The best Neptunia game with a compelling story and engaging gameplay to match. The characters are definitely Neptunia characters in this game, so if you hate them it's not going to get any better, but if you love them, this is the best place to interact and experience them.
Once again its a inter-dimensional shenanigan story line dial up to the max. There are points in this game where I thought the story would end, but it just keep on going, and that is great because I wanted to play more.
Its a good game. Just don't expect it to change your world.
love for neptune
