It's a Neptastic experience, but there are other games that are more worthwhile to play & grind.
Also, here's a tip for those willing to play or are currently playing the game:
You can hold LB (or whichever key you assigned to it) to skip combat animations such as attacking, item usage, being attacked, etc. Nothing in-game explains this, so have fun not wasting a multitude of hours from watching attack animations.

Love the game 9.9/10
Really wanted to enjoy this game, character design is cute, graphics are colorful, the story is fun and full of meta references and Compile was one of my favourite companies in the eighties.
But the grinding and the leveling, even with the plans and the whales, is too much. The combat ends being veeery boring and repetitive, the breaking guard systems just seems like killing two times the same monster and the dungeons look all the same because are, in fact, the same. This makes the moments of story being too spaced and made me lose the interest in going on. Maybe a VN with lighter RPG areas could have been a better idea, but this is an overwhelming grinding waste of time. 20 wasted hours for me and I wasn't still in the middle of the game.
First impression are fine (aside from not having a controller, and some menu confusion), but it takes a bit too long to allow you to save.
Update: once you start to skip, it's much too hard to stop, and you can't change the controls often enough.
The dub's good in terms of voice-acting, but it's weird how jargonized it is.

It's Nep-Nep time
After 69 hours of Nep-Nepping I have come to the conclusion that Nep-Nep time is satisfactory
Pretty good game.
Story:
Being the start, you see how Neptune meets Compa and IF, and how the goddesses were created to be enemies of each other. However, Neptune losing her memories became the reason why they each connected and went against their creation. This game covers how the goddesses came to be, as well as Arfoire's purpose.
System:
It is a turn based system, where you can move a limited range, and combine attacks in a combo setting. Later on there is an Exe gauge, where the combos are used to fill it up quickly. There are also discs where you can craft on special stats.
Maps:
Quite a lot.
Side Quests:
A lot.
--> There is a colosseum as well.
Music:
Great.
Art Style:
Great.
Problem:
Very unbalanced game, and a bit too grindy.
Overall:
It is a pretty good game, but the balance issue is a problem that makes it too grindy. Still recommend it though. Also, Compa is adorable, one of the best characters in the series.
A great classic JRPG
This is one of the best games I have ever played. If I have to pick a universe to pick out of all, it would be this one.

Great game!
Don't be fooled by the cute anime girls and fourth-wall-breaking antics. This is a surprisingly deep and grind-heavy RPG experience that will chew you up and spit you out if you take it lightly. It's obviously not going to be to everyone's tastes - some will be put off by the amount of required grinding, some will be put off by all the jiggly anime boobs, and some will be put off by Neptune being essentially the Japanese equivalent of Deadpool - but if you enjoy (or can look past) all three of those things, you'll find a very engaging RPG that you can easily get 100+ hours of playtime out of.

JRPG franchise that personifies Game Consoles and their companies as kingdoms. It is a visual novel styled game, with JRPG gameplay and lots of grinding.
The game is okay but the second game improves on it significantly. This game is not a must play but for the price, it is recommended. This is the first game in the series and it is a great entry for new people.
Overall, it is okay but very grindy, in fact, in most difficulty spikes, I just grind for 3 hrs and kill everything in the next 10 hrs or so.

The difficulty is all over the place and the grind is tedious for me to actually enjoy.
You go through dungeons and enemies are fine but then BOOM the dungeon's story boss is 4x beefier and you just eat dirt. They didn't even bother to at least show enemy levels to know what you are dealing with. It's just ridiculous, don't even get me started on the 3 fights section of Chapter 2 where fights get progressively harder and you CAN'T even save.
That and I'm also really not fond of the massive asset overuse.

This is a weird one for me. I don't really like the gameplay loop or the meh plot, I only bothered to finish it because of all the video game references. Despite that, I have now unwillingly become a fan of the series.

Can be pretty stressful at times, but for all the misgivings I have about this game and the frustration it occasionally gave me with tedious plan/material management and the back-to-back bossfights, I can't find myself disliking it. Despite everything, the game isn't too terribly hard if you know what you're doing. Sometimes that means knowing when to pursue plans for better healing items, what enemies to seek out, data discs to make, etc. Has really nice presentation to go along with an occasionally (putting stress on occasionally here) really satisfying and fluid-feeling battle system. Wrap that all in an adorable moé package and light-hearted, silly story that you aren't supposed to take entirely seriously, and you have a pretty good game in my book. Goes on sale for super cheap too, I'd say it's worth the pickup.

this has been one of my favorite games for a very long time now and it still honestly holds up in my mind. the gameplay is pretty solid and unique, the characters are very fun and the storyline is engaging. the character designs and art style is one of my favorite parts of it as well. overall its a very smooth game and i would recommend it to anyone who likes jrpgs with comedic elements.
This game was quite a surprise. I never thought I'd enjoy it as much as I did. The game's story was a bit basic though not bad. It has that same upbeat and quirky nature as DQ but in a much smaller scale and with a little bit of culture. I wouldn't mind having a few more cutscenes to really flesh out the dynamics of the scenes they're showing. As it is, the VN-style scenes are quite well made. The "dynamic" portraits and CG helps it from being too bland especially during comical scenes. The only criticism I have is that the game does not have a complete English dub so if you want all the dialogue voiced, then the only option is to use Japanese audio which I eventually did.
Gameplay-wise, this game is your standard turn-based JRPG fare with a few special flourishes that makes it quite addictive. I'd say that this game's turn-based combat systems strikes a good balance between simplicity and complexity where you get punished if you don't plan your character's actions properly. This is especially true when taking on the risky foes or bosses in the optional dungeons. The "Plan" or crafting system is also quite well implemented and really makes grinding worth it if you are up to it---offering the ability to open up new dungeons, combat/gameplay adjustments, equipment, and even outfits. I'm still on the fence about the Lily system as it doesn't offer quite enough of a reward to actually make use of it.
Overall, I've enjoyed my time with this game so much so that I was going through all the hoops to see as much of it in my first playthrough. I'm looking forward to my new game plus run to actually complete this game. An easy recommend in my books if you like turn-based JRPGS with an anime aesthetic.

I CANT TYPE MORE WTF?
An interesting concept of warring goddesses representing each consoles interacting with one another, where game companies are represented as characters, that is competently executed. The story is not spectacular. The gameplay is good, but not spectacular either. The humour is quite good. It's the perfect average game.
A really fun JRPG with funny references.
If you are looking for dumb fun RPG without caring about plot, enemies that share no similar artstyle, and stages that are repeated around 4 times each across the entire game. HyperDimension is for you, this game is just a parody. It will throw every possible cliché and joke known to man just to be "haha funny". It is proud in its randomness and dumb jokes, enemies and plot. It honestly feels like the type of game you would see made in RPG Maker by a group of friends having a laugh but made into a full 3D game. The battle system is fine but has 0 reason to ever use any character that isn't the main CPU's and the Dev/Publisher characters are really unnecesary and feel more like something they were forced to add, at least If and Compa play with their companies names but having "Marvelous" and "CyberConnect2" as their names instead of a nickname is just cringeworthy
