It's peak. The characters, the plot, the writing, and especially the soundtrack - all fantastic. I already loved FC, and SC was even better! What a game.
fun
The Second Chapter of Trails in the Sky provides a complete story and some spectacular views.
I came into this game without knowing much about it and I had heard about it somewhere. And I'm glad I did get it. It was one of the kinds of games I enjoy. Long games, and world building and good dialogue - not to mention that turn based RPG games are my style.
It's meant to be one long, long game (Trails in the Sky) but was broken up into two for that same reason.
It's a little older, yes, but it still works well because the dialogue is good. It's followed by several games in the same franchise (I think 10+ games and counting). Its immediate successor is worth playing, I think - but slightly different than the first two.
Recommended if you like turn based JRPGs.
I'm an old timer thats played hundreds of rpgs over the years and I find this game way to hard , Even on easy mode some of the main battles took too long and very frustrating. Some bosses never run out of healing power and just drag on until you run of healing and one of your party member is dead. Graphics were great but not game that i will play again.
A timeless masterpiece.
TRAILS IN THE SKY
Its peak... The Sky arc became one of my favorite RPGs :)
More of the 1st game with slightly better combat. Some sidequests were a bit of a chore but otherwise its really good.
The crown jewel of the wonderful and special Trails in the Sky trilogy. The centerpiece, the payoff, the "it was all worth it" part. FC and the 3rd can still stand shoulder to shoulder with SC thanks to their individual strengths, but this is indeed the game where most people come to stay impressed, making it the safest recommendation with the widest possible appeal.
The most important thing to be aware of is that it starts slow; much slower than FC, arguably, since you make another round around the same locations. Dozens of hours are spent on building up the antagonists and their mysterious plan, interspersed with more side quests about routine bracer work. They’re great, memorable, badass antagonists that gain a lot from their gradual introductions, yet it still might fall short of your story-focused expectations, especially if you already have glowing reviews like this one on your mind.
However, those who persist through the 1st half will be rewarded with possibly the most thorough and impressive 2nd half in the genre’s history; a total masterclass on how to resolve plot threads, conclude character arcs and deliver on foreshadowed promises. Adventure, romance, drama, tension, twists, tragic backstories, scheming masterminds, convoluted politics, epic confrontations, satisfying conclusions and perfect sequel hooks – this story has it all, and it does it all beautifully.
The endgame is particularly spectacular, starting with a multilayered political face-off where conversations feel more dangerous than any battles, then delivering on the key mystery with bold and thought-provoking sci-fi themes while also giving a perfect closure to every single participant’s personal story.
The final chapter is also where the combat peaks (not that it was bad before, just more limited) as you finally get the full party and access to all magic. The only weird thing is that due to some balancing mishap the cheapest spells still remain more useful than most high-tier spells, but regardless, every key boss battle feels just as epic and thorough as the stories surrounding them.
The cast is varied, likeable and utilized to its fullest potential. Everyone is given their time to shine, no one is forgotten, yet nobody turns into a "me too!" parrot like it often happens in more recent Falcom games. Estelle is an incredible protagonist, and it’s a true pleasure to watch her gradual yet unmistakable growth. The Big Bad deserves a special mention too, neither a cackling JPRG madman nor an oh-so-sympathetic victim of the circumstances but a chilling, intelligent, sadistic schemer who can put the party on the brink of defeat without personally lifting a finger.
Even if you’ve already been burned before by "it gets better later" recommendations, I’d highly encourage you to give the Sky trilogy and SC a chance. It really is a gold standard of how to deliver on your own story’s promises and turn an unassuming start into something truly special.
Honestly if you made it through the first game with the absolute bombshell of an ending and it still didn't made you want to immediately jump onto this game then this is not for you. I had the ending of the first linger in my mind constantly while I was on a 6 month hiatus until I couldn't handle it anymore and went ahead on continuing the series. All I can say about this game is that its peak character writing and the absolutely highs of this game blows everything out of the water compare to any other JRPG in terms of use of music and writing. Listening to the OST months later has only made me get magically transported back into its world again, something only the original FF7 has achieved. In a year where Persona 3 Reload, SMTV Vengeance, Metaphor Refantazio, FF7 Rebirth, Infinite Wealth and the return of many older JRPGS like Suikoden/Eiyuden, Romancing SaGa and the many that is too much to list. This game was my favourite that I played this year. It is a masterclass in terms of world building.
What a truly special game. If you are reading this there's a very high chance you have played through the first game of the series, and if you did, I'm sure you don't need a review to know you need to carry on with the second chapter. Everything I loved from FC dialed up to 11. More of the great world building, characters, fun battles and great music creates a full package when taking the first game into account, and what an epic this tale has been.
I did EVERYTHING in this play through. Spoke to every NPC upon every dialogue change, collected every item, got every achievement. My total time was about 144 hours playing on hard mode, so even if you take out the side content you don't really need to do (I highly recommend you do to get the most out of the game), you are probably looking at 70+ hours of pure story.
Please give this a go if you have the chance and this sort of game interests you, even if FC left you wanting a bit more I can ASSURE you this game will blow you away. Onto the third!
A perfect sequel. A follow up to one of the best JRPGs and best endings. This trilogy is a must play if you're a fan of ps1 era rpgs with quality writing
So.....many.....feelings...
Note: Keep tissues nearby
Builds up from the first game and pays off,
One of my favorite games of all time!
Trails in the Sky is one of the greatest games ever made and this is literally just a continuation of that game right where it left off in the story. You cannot skip Trails FC to play this.
This second chapter is significantly longer and more difficult than the first. The chapter may seem impossibly hard at first for those playing on hard difficulty, but that is only because the prologue of this chapter is basically filling the role of a difficult skillcheck. Beat that and it will feel like playing hard on the first chapter again.
A worthy sequel to the original
Rolled straight in from FC, Loving the world and the characters so much. This game is now my new happy place.
I do not cry easily. This game, with its wonderful world and characters brought me to tears. It has cemented itself as one of my favorite games (and stories) of all time. How could I not encourage others to dive into the incredible world of Zemuria and in particular the kingdom of Liberl?
Great JRPG turn based series. Great story and great gameplay
just like the 1st one i could not get into it
this was better than sex.
PLAY IT. NOW.
Fantastic from beginning to end.
very smokeable
Just beat it. Dats a good damn game.
This feels like Pokemon Gold/Silver to Trails in the Sky FC's Pokemon Gold. Expands on the world so much. Characters return with gusto and we get deeper into their relationships. The systems get more tweaks that actually make sense in world and at times...it's actually red raw challenging in a good way. Absolutely stands as a legendary rpg must play.
I'm neck deep in trails. Send help.
estelle bestelle
Tita is one of the cutest things in the whole universe.
Second Chapter version.
PEAK FICTION!!!!! I LOVE TitS RAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH
I didn't actually enjoy playing Trails until SC. The first game is...tolerable. I keep playing because I keep hearing this is a really good series and I want to see the bigger picture. The FC was meh because I played it with 2014 mindset (this is the released date in the Steam). Then I learned to tolerate it because I learned that this is actually a 2004 game. I finished the FC a couple of years ago, then I started the SC. I still didn't enjoy it much, until in chapter 1-2 I realized I missed a lot of BPs which turns out to be tied to some hidden quest. In my mind, wow this is a chore and I had to use a Max BP guide. Then I restarted from the beginning.
Only when I restarted I understood its beauty. I didn't wanna miss things so I talked to everybody. The dialog shows that the dev put their heart in making this. It's like The Witcher 3 where the dialog can change whether you do something or not, and some hidden quest really makes it shines. It's simpler than TW3 of course, but this is still better than most modern games. Especially that this is a 2006 game.
The gameplay itself is simple but at the same time complicated. I learned the true extent of the complexity in the SC because I played it straight in hard mode. Normal mode itself is harder than most RPG games, but it's still just a chore: you don't need to master the mechanics, it's just takes longer to kill the enemies. In hard mode, utilizing the features are mandatory and it makes me realize that all the activities are actually fun and useful. You need to know the orbal combination, recipe, and use the items (instead of hoarding) to survive. The only complaint I have is the dungeon layout, which I'm thankful there are maps out there phew.
Now the part that makes it shining. After learning more about the world, wow this is a solid worldbuilding. The last few chapter really showed me the extend of their stories. There are layers and bigger arc than just Joshua and Estelle. There's a lot of twist, great plot overall, and everything is interconnected. This is a story that I'm glad I started. And I'm sure a lot of bits here will foreshadow in the next game and in the next series. Looking forward to be amazed more by this series.
Peak fiction
Loved the first game but this second game is way better. It has what you liked about the first game but with less filler (even though I don't think the first had that much to begin with). Haven't finished yet however so maybe my mind changes. But 30+ hours in and it's absolutely amazing. The dialogue stands out as fantastic! <3
This is a direct sequel to FC and must-play, as it addresses the cliff-hanger at the end of FC. I jumped on this immediately after finishing FC. It took me a while to get hooked to FC at first due to its slow burn in the beginning, but once I understood the game and was invested in the plot, everything flowed like reading a book. The exception is near the end chapters where there's a bit of back tracking.
If FC is the appetizer, SC is the main course. This fantastic second entry blows the doors wide open, continuing the first game's unique world-building and heartwarming story. An all-time classic that deserves more public acclaim 👍👍
I cannot believe how well they handled pretty much every character's arc in this game, from start to finish. My god, after FC's ending, this game's start actually takes the time to let Estelle sit with her feelings, and really explore how she felt about how things were left off. As always, the localization team has my utmost gratitude. Just an absolute banger of a story.
Great trails game

It's peak.
This is basically the second half of what is the Trails in the Sky FC. This is not a game you can just use basic attacks and expect to get through. You will have to utilize everything in your arsenal to get past some of the boss battles since they feel like little puzzles to figure out. If you don't get a good strategy, you will feel like each step taken forward will be then rewarded with 3 steps back during the combat. The story is what is keeping me going through this adventure for sure as you start to really care about the cast. I am not far down the Trails series path as of yet, but I look forward to continuing my journey.
same combat design as first game, more interesting story telling.
The start of final chapter is what's wrong with linear game design. But It is probably due to outdated PS3 game console.
The best part.
If you enjoyed the first game, then you will enjoy the 2nd. If you didn't enjoy the first one, well then you probably wont enjoy this one either because its pretty much the same with some minor additions.
I do really love the fact that levels and the notebook can be carried from the previous game. It's not super beneficial or anything but its a nice touch. I was actually lower leveled than I would have been by default, and it still didn't make it harder or anything from the start.
I still enjoyed the battle system and the addition of the group attacks was a nice feature. I think playing a marathon of the games might burn you out because they are so similiar, but just play some things in between and you should be fine.
I enjoyed the story and the characters so I do not regret my time playing this game.
10/10
one of the best JRPGs ever. Estelle is Bestelle.
Incredible game!
Trails in the Sky SC and FC are "essential reading" to get fully invested into the trails series! Along with the Crossbell games Trails into Zero/Azure and Trails into Cold Steel series these games make the story of Zemuria well connected.
I was one of those players that started with Trails of Cold Steel and I love the story in Trails in the Sky!
40 hours of distilled mediocrity followed by 40 hours of peak. This is upside-down Xenogears in a sense. Overall, the game remains good but to me, it is the worst game in the series (I'm sorry Trails fandom please lower your pitchforks and torches).
Sidenote: Do not play this game on hard/nightmare for your first playthrough
The end of chapter 6 was so peak that I cried like a maiden
The best storyline in the Kiseki/Trails series and best conclusion of what happened in SKY FC
Is good game
