The best jrpg I've ever played
100/10
The greatest payoff ever coming from all the world building and character development of FC
The fact they had to write dialogue for all 500+ empty chests in the game is truly commendable
I honestly expected to not like these first few games in this series, however, I watched many reviews of the game which highly suggested that you play through all the earlier games in order to follow the story line. Being that they are so old, I was not very enthusiastic but I have been very pleasantly surprised. I would say I've even enjoyed it.
Wow just wow - on the penultimate battle I think - what a story
What a satisfying ending as well - Very much enjoyed it
Olivier and Kevin my beloveds
This is my first JRPG game so there's not much to compare it to, but I finally finished the whole Trails in the Sky trilogy to the end and im very grateful for the time spent on this masterpiece...
The story, the music in this game... it's criminally good.
Even after a while, I can't stop listening to the soundtrack and thinking of this series over and over again...
Hopefully Falcom will hear the pleas of the Russian-speaking community to add Russian localization to the upcoming remake of the first chapter of Trails
SC stands for Super Cool sequel.
This is where the big buildups of FC really shine. Hard recommend.
This entry fixes my complaints of FC, mainly the lack of exploration rewards, the lack of equipment customization, and the slow pacing of story.
The orbment system gets a 7th slot, and grants much more powerful bonuses and spells versus the orbments in FC. Additionally, the inclusion of items like Crimson Eye, which allows prioritizing Arts strength at the cost of speed, means the equipment system allows for actual tradeoffs unlike the FC situation of "pick which status you want to block".
The story pacing is so much faster than in FC, with the first few chapters playing a villain of the week story to tie it all together in the last half with the overarching story between FC and SC. The guild quests, while of a similar quantity to FC, doesn't nearly suffocate the main story like how FC's side quests feel at occasion.
All in all, this is the massive payoff to FC's build off, and is well worth while for a masterful JRPG.
So, you want me to review Trails in the Sky SC huh? hehe, I'm about to yap (but not as much as the cast) and I ain't proofreading nothin. any spelling and grammar mistakes you find are your fault due to you reading this review with hate in your heart.
Coming from Cold Steel, I realised that half way through cs3 that I was not infact playing the first game in the trails series and also spoiling some characters and references for myself. so my bad
playing this right after FC, you could definitely feel the effort they put into the rest of the game after realising rpgs aren't just visual novels with a some kind of battle system hastily tacked on. im not sure if it was due to budgets or times or it being their first go or whatever that made FC's battle system so disappointing compared to cs but falcom cooked this time around. the chain mechanic and the unique quartz HHNNNHHGGGG
story was a yapfest, loved it. the conversations going from heartwrenching confidings to comrades in times of hopelessness and anguish to oscar (olivier is a stupid name) saying something unserious because he wasn't the centre of attention as usual in the next frame of animation... *chef's kiss* BEAUTIFUL.
i haven't finished it yet. but im sure when i do im gonna boot up the third game instantly then buy the second part of the trails series.
amazing game, amazing characters, amazing story. stupid acheivements though
10/10
Fantastic 2nd entry in the Trails series
It is we who are unequal to such a gift.
silver will
What a journey, my friends. I took my time with this one (over 100h) and it paid off. Game is pure gold. Can`t wait to advance in the series!
Peak. Just peak.
peak
Love the Trails series and being able to play this one on my pc has been great.
Ngl these mfs were cookin in 2006. Banger game
PEAK. PEAK. PEAK. PEAK. PEAK. PEAK. PEAK.
So...after that ending...this game happens. This game picks up the following day after the end of the first title, and it gets *good*.
The story is just excellent. I can't say much without spoiling, but it was an experience I will not forget anytime soon. Full of scenes that made me cry, scenes that made me hyped as hell, intrigued, etc. The characters get real fleshed out, the lore gets so much deeper, everything is just way bigger and it builds off of the first game quite excellently.
The gameplay is mostly the same, it has an easy mode now for people who just care for the story. There's new orbment customizability, some new things in combat, like chain attacks, and etc. But ultimately, it's the same gameplay, but a bit more polished and expanded.
The music in these games has been incredible as well. There is not a single bad, or forgettable, track in the entire ost. Falcom is known for great OSTs from other series like Ys, and they did not miss in the Trails series either.
Overall, while I don't want to spoil in my reviews, I will just say that Trails in the Sky SC is an unforgettable masterpiece of a video game, and a game I will never forget. It is my favorite video game of all time, and it moved me in ways no game ever had done before. I am in love with the characters, the world, the music, everything. It will be extremely hard for any other game I play to move me the same way this game has, and this makes me happy because I was sure I had already experienced the best I'll ever experience in gaming. I am glad Falcom proved me wrong.
The game story, characters are all so good. However, the game could crash at several points. And I spend 30 hours, played till the last chapter and got stuck at one point where the pointer disappeared in dialogue, preventing me from choosing the correct choice to conitnue the story. So, yeah, that's it. SUch a waste of time
FC walked so SC can run. This game worked so well as FC has built the foundation and world building for this game.
Gameplay is virtually the same, except that there's more room for you to customize your team as you can switch around your party members as you wish, to some extent relative to the story.
Story wise it's definitely far much personal and emotional than the first one. All those things in FC is leading up to this.
Most of the characters shine through, while a few of them not so much.
I have to say though, with the world is now opening up, it can be quite a chore to go backtrack when there's no fast travel available. Then again, it's yet another old game so you just got to live with that.
Despite of the oudated game design, it's still a solid JRPG and definitely a really good sequel to FC.
If you're a fan of long jrpg games like persona 5 or long running jrpg series that are really good lets say final fantasy, dragon quest etc. I'd say this is the game for you but the thing about Legend of heroes franchise, you're gonna have to start with the first installment, Legend of heroes: Trails in the sky FC. The reason why is that every game after the previous one builds off of the last game. Let me paint an image for you if you want to read your favorite series lets say one piece, you're gonna have to read the first volume as an example. I love this series, I want other gamers to try it out. If it's not for you that's ok too the best thing is that at least you gave it a try and that's all that really matters. Thank you for reading stay strong out there fellow gamers.
A mostly perfect follow up to the first game. It starts off pretty slow, but if you can make it to chapter 5, you'll be alright. Everything after is all you'd expect and more. It took me about 43 hours to finish, but that's with copious amounts of turbo mode (in-game timer said 66 hours). Can't wait to see what trauma the third game will give me... I've heard the stories.
A wonderful journey, packed full of absolutely delightful NPC's, a great soundtrack, and a well-thought out loving cast. I certainly sunk my teeth into finding every chest and completing every sidequest throughout the 100 hour journey this was. While the very end of the game felt extremely rushed, and certain parts were tedious, this game has an unmistakable charm that made it unique.
The story in SC is much more interesting than in FC. I genuinely wanted to know what was going to happen next from about 1/4 of the game onward, it picks up there and never really lets up till the end. The end itself felt a bit rushed, and some of the character conclusions about the world and their lives felt a little on the nose. Estelle's "final dialouge" being met with "Hmmph" from the main antagonist several times was a bit, jarring? compared to much of the series well-delivered over the top cheese and tongue-in-cheek nature.
Overall I'd give this game a solid 9.4/10, it's truly a wonderful RPG
Instantly one of the greatest games I've ever played.
Peak fiction. Unironically,
Seriously, the first game had me intrigued and I love conspiracy stories but the slow pace made it hard to stay motivated.
But this game kicked ass.
Genuinely, I am stunned by what I just experienced, the voice acting (used skyinstaller) was stellar, the story post-chapter 3 had me addicted and got tears out of me, and every single chapter after 5 could've been the story's end, but they kept on giving more and more and more.
This may be one of the greatest JRPGs I've ever experienced. Ever. And I've played a lot. Turbo mode messes up Steam hours though :(
ABSOLUTE CINEMA
I don't know how they managed to top first chapter but they did. Truly a masterpiece of a JRPG. This just makes me more excited when the Sky remake comes around.
Time to dive into 3rd..
It’s incredible to think that this is just the beginning of such a massive saga, the world building in these jrpgs is simply outstanding and this game is no exception I loved every moment of it. That said, a word of caution: PLEASE AVOID playing on nightmare difficulty It was added exclusively to the PC port without proper or just any type of balancing making it brutally unfair and frustrating in certain sections.
Even so, Trails in the Sky SC might just be my favorite hidden gem game ever.
Great game, great sequel, but compared to the first game it has a ton of flaws that are hard to ignore including:
-Crusty, low-res UI elements
-A lot of script errors (misspelling, poor grammar, etc.)
-The UI will sometimes overlap, leaving some text unreadable.
-Text boxes in some cutscenes will jitter.
And worst of all...
-Estelle talks like a redditor.
Other than that really good game, I highly recommend.
One of the best sequel titles I've ever played, it ties up everything in the first game and kept furthering the lore and battle mechanics in interesting ways. Only downside is you have to play FC to play this game, but that is more because they are one full game rather than 2 separate games with how everything ties together.
Apparently Turbo Mode mid-battle screws the playtime on Steam. My total playtime was 75 hours on Turbo mode x8. Just cleared the game.
Let me be clear, SC is a GREAT game. One of the strongest plot I've seen in a game and probably THE BEST Worldbuilding (FC and SC) I've sever seen.
This game was really good and I recommend it to everyone who's looking for a new JRPG with a STRONG plot and awesome worldbuilding.
Yes the gameplay can be frustrating some time, but it's not COMPLETELY horrible. If you are able to put aside this aged feature of the game, and just focus on the story, you'll have AN INCREDIBLE time.
This is the best video game ever made.
A perfect game from start to finish. I first played this game almost 10 years ago with the PSP version and I still think about this after all these years. I absolutely have zero idea about the japanese version and how well it's written but the localization is beyond great. The dialogues of both main characters and NPCs are so engaging and add up to the world building. Despite the tragic background of this localization, XSEED still really has some of the best writing team out there. Their choices of vocabulary is just *chef's kiss*.
The soundtrack is so immaculate that I still listen to them every now and then. I have them scattered all over my several curated spotify and youtube playlists. This PC version included so much quality upgrade that when I got back to check the PSP version just for comparison, it baffled me how I survived its quality.
I've been starting my pilgrimage of finally playing the rest of the Trails series. Given the enormity of this series, I'll probably won't see daylight for a year.
PEAK.FICTION. An amazing sucessor to FC and yet would not be as great as it is without FC. Truly kino. Sasuga FALCOM
I played this game about 9 years ago and I still think about how it permanently changed my brain chemistry.
this is an awesome game every bit worth the price has good attacks and chain attcks and very good graphics to bad it doesnt have auto in the attacks but still a very good game i recommend this to everyone that likes rpg games
Masterpiece
An amazing JRPG game and incredible series. Everything from world building to characters make it shine and lovable.
An absolutely incredible JRPG, after the quite slowly paced FC, SC is pure action almost the entire time, and while the combat isn't the greatest, the characters are awesome, the world is tremendous, and the soundtrack is electric. I felt fully invested in the entire thing start to finish and there's nothing better you can say about a JRPG.
Also lord give me STRENGTH when FC remake is out and Schera is in fully modern 3d
if you liked the first one you'd probably like this one although at the moment I wish Joshua was the main character over Estella because he seems like a better character.
шедевр
this game is wonderful and the characters really grew on me music is top tier as well.
Great
.
i am never listening to reddit ever again
Alright, now it's a party!
Now, granted, whilst I did start the game after feeling the hype from the ending of the previous game, after the prologue was officially done, I had undertaken a massive several months break from the game since I felt quite burned out after going through Sky 1st, which is just a huge prologue. But thankfully, once I got back into the spin of things, I never realised how much of a treat I was going to be getting myself right into.
I haven't much to say on the gameplay as it's essentially the same on how I felt about the previous game, but to a rather lesser extent on the roughness throughout. Instead of two party members for 70% of the game, you just about get four party members for around about 85% or even more of the game and for the most part, they aren't even temporary! Granted, you'll be forced to use two per chapter, but one of them is always Estelle who is the greatest creation of a protagonist ever made and the other two slots are quite flexible depending on the chapter. What I will say is that there were definitely more enemies that actively made me angry, such as the one and only enemy HP draining dust monster. I will cause that species to go extinct if I see it again.
The same best aspects are the writing, worldbuilding and characters, but whilst the middle has already been mostly established because of the previous game, there have been great leaps to make the characters you either like or dislike to be further fleshed out. Most of the party members have gotten fleshed out and stand on their own feet without being completely one-sided to Estelle or Joshua, with my second favourite character of the Sky trilogy being Agate. And of course, I have to give props to the antagonists of this game for being more prevalent within the story and giving us great connections to a good portion of the party members. That being said, one of them had a really nonsensical motivation to be evil and I'm sure you can guess which one it is.
I haven't much to say about the worldbuilding aspects as previously stated, it is still quite impressive with new areas and aspects to explore the previous game hadn't done before. That being said, however, the main issue with this game is exploring the same five areas once again which is the main reason I couldn't exactly continue the game for months. It's painful going through what you've already explored, even if I have a great deal of love for the characters and their stories to untangle. It's especially evident in that one chapter where you got to explore all five areas again for a mission. It was that horribly dull.
Now, if you saw me fanboying over the sheer amazingness that is Estelle Bright, HOOOOOOOOOOOO BOY, I have a lot to say about her. Now, yes, she is arguably one of the weakest characters in the trilogy and because she's the main character, it can be frustrating to deal with her. However, I do not care in the slightest, because her growth is just immaculate. With the premise being that Joshua is no longer around anymore, the idea of Estelle coming into her own as a Bracer without relying on her BF's own knowledge is absolutely fantastic. She remains funny, positive and bright as the sun, but also begins to grow more confident and focused on her aims to help people, which really made me adore her ever so much. I can definitely say for certain that I am, of course, THE number one supporter of the Estelle Nation!
Overall, this game is the great payoff the previous game grants you. It does unfortunately still remains with the old game jank and unbalanced gameplay and there are definitely some tropes that be tiresome to people. However, because of how absolutely I appreciate the character developments, the story, the antagonists and Estelle Bright, I can definitely say this is the best that the trilogy has to offer.
Overall Score: 8/10, quite positive, War Cry 2 is the funniest craft in the entire series thus far.
it's peak
So i would not recommend playing this game immediately after FC like I did. I strongly suggest that if you have just completed FC, for the love of GOD please give yourself some time in-between games. It deserves better.
Also according to steam it took me 58 hours to complete, and i played on easy mode, skipped every
side-quest and used turbo mode as much as humanly possible. I would say my total time is closer to 45 hours.
Quick Tip: if you hit Shift_Tab while in game you can bring up maps and treasure guides as you play. Please dont sleep on this, it makes the game ten times better.
