Hundreds years ago an ancient black dragon wreaked havoc in the realm of Arelia, bringing despair and calamity in to the land. A brave barbarian princess gifted with magic and prowess fought the dragon and used her body and soul to seal it for eternity. Or so it would seem ... a horde of dark legion managed to break the seal and free the ancient black dragon, bringing it's terror into the land once again. However a glimmer of hope remains .. unknown to them, with the destruction of the seal the brave barbarian princess also materialize once again in to this world.
Gameplay
Princess' Edge - Dragonstone is a beat'em up inspired by Golden Axe, however unlike the usual beatemup it use the 3 planes system similar to Guardian Heroes.
The game features:
- 5 stages
- 9 types of normal enemies & 5 bosses
- plenty of special techniques are available at your disposal
- backstab system, get behind your opponent and strike them for more damage
- mounted combat system. Ride the dragon!
- smooth animation and control
- gamepad and keyboard are both supported
- 3 difficulty settings

If the controls weren't bad, (for example, you aren't able to move with the d-pad while playing with a controller) this game would be fine. Even though most of the bosses and a couple of the enemies are pure annoyance to deal with, they wouldn't be nearly as annoying if the controls weren't bad. The 3 lanes system used in this game also ruins it so sadly I just can't recommend this game, despite wanting to.
when i saw this game was inspired by golden axe i was excited to play. i love golden axe and am a huge fan of those games (well the first 2 anyway) but when i tried it out i was sorely let down. the controls are weird, you have to do a button combo just to switch between the three plans instead of just pushing up or down (like golden axe did) the attacks have a pitiful range and you have to be pretty much in headbutting distance for it to hit. i had to spam the magic button to actually get anywhere however when it comes to the bad guys hitting you they have fantastic range. i wanted to be able to recommend this game but sadly i cant. and even though it says its inspired by golden axe i would say its an embarrisment to golden axe.

Combat is fast and fluid, plus the game controls really well with a controller. You have to make good use of the 3 planes you can dash into (Example: normal grunts you can just run up to them and slash them, but spear grunts will most likely hit you first if you do not use the planes to get behind them). Bosses are kind of cheap, but that is just part of the charm of a game like this (Pay attention to the trailer on how to make big damage to them ^^).
Some nice touches the game has:
- Heroine is basically an anime version of the female character from the first Golden Axe (This is WHY she has that outfit on).
- The mount works almost identical to the ones on Golden Axe (Get knock out of the once and you have a chance to get on them again, get knock twice and you lose the mount).
- When you beat a stage a map shows up the next stage (like you know what game).
- When the heroine loses a life, she stays KO on the ground while the HP of the next life fills up and then she gets up again (a nice touch instead of the generic "flashes dead and appears again" that most games like this has).
- While short, it actually is pretty challenging on the normal difficulty and up (you have a limited amount of continues).
- Last but not least ... the big grunts can bearhug our heroine! xD
Would bring again a barbarian waifu home!!! 11/10
Got to the end within an hour. Great gameplay but way too short in my opinion. It's up to you if you think that's worth the asking price
This game seems like a good idea, but for whatever reason, I can only move left or right. I cannot go up or down as is needed in a 2.5D game, but the combat and enemies seem pretty solid.
I really enjoy playing this game, its fun and it looks pretty solid.
-The Graphics are pretty good made, fluid animations
-If you feel unconfortable with the Keyboard bidings you can just change them as you like thats a huge plus, i know games where you cant do that.
-There are different difficulties wich makes it more of challenge.
-The Combos are really good explained so you can learn them pretty fast.
What i would like too see would be some different Costumes that you can get if you complete the game like "5 times in Hard mode for example" would be an extra challenge for me personally and maybe other players would like this idea too.
Overall very fun game im hoping for new cool future updates! :)
This is a fun game to play and good tribute to Golden Axe, moreover I bought it because I support that creators can create bikini armored characters if they want to. I'm female and I'm not offended by what a fictionnal character can wear, and not all games need to look "realistic", sometimes it's fine if they look good and fun.
Hi Erobotan, I played Princess Edge and it's decent game.
The term of gameplay is really good and remind me of old school beatem up (very hard to find in these days). You can do combos, air combos, special attack and ride dragon(it's a dragon right?). The difficult is a bit high but it's ok after a few game over -_-"
Pro :
- Smooth animation
- Responsive Control
- Rare to find air combos in side scroll type
- Good AI and variety enemies attacks
- Great boss fight
- Cool BGM
Con (you can fix in future update) :
- I think enemies should drop some HP / MP recover item
- Should add invincible frame for special attack
- the air attack combos hitbox should a bit more wider. Sometime air combos miss if you get to close to enemy.
Still waiting for future update.
If you like side scroll beat'em up and challenge game. You will like Princess Edge ^^
And the last thing I want to shout after played this game "DRAGON HEADBUTT !!!" :P

Princess' Edge - Dragonstone is the debut title of indie developer Erobotan, and it's a great beat'em up! Here you will experience one solid title with two special features: multiple planes (Guardian Heroes) and backstab attacks for more damage. You will control a Princess inspired by Tyris Flare from Golden Axe on her quest to defeat a great evil that has been unleashed (And no, you can't summon a dragon here! That's the enemy!), aside from standard attacks, combos, and mounting beast, you can execute a variety of magical attacks with unique properties for destroying waves of multiple enemies. The graphics, music, and playability are very good, but the difficulty may require some practice to get used to. This game is in early access, so you can drop your suggestions for improving!
As a player who's played enough to reach what looked like the final boss, I write this review.
So far so good. The game is running quite flawlessly for a game that is in early access and has just been released.
Bug-wise, I ran this game a couple of times by now, and I ran into no critical ones yet.
Performance-wise, it performs very well even for my quite old laptop.
Gameplay-wise, the character animations feel smooth, and the designs are pretty neat. The main heroine's voice acting is pretty decent too. Hits seem to register correctly. The combo system is pretty straightforward and not too difficult to get used to with one's preferred key figuration and precise timing. I played on Normal difficulty, and the balance between mobs, bosses, and the main heroine felt pretty fair. It might feel unfair to some of the players as the main heroine can't guard and has a shorter range than the enemies. However, they all have certain patterns that you have to adapt to. It's just something you learn the hard way.
Sound-wise, it might not look like it from the trailer, but the hit sound effects are good enough. BGM-wise, it does get repetitive, but I feel like the gameplay makes up for it.
Therefore, the game seems to be on the right track, generally feels worth the price, and most importantly, it is fun. I imagine it can only get better as the dev polishes it further.

Erobotan!....Throw in longer levels, more chars, more development things (maybe some health goodies to pick up) and many more. and you might hit it big with your next releases on steam.
I will try again the game from time to time. i lost at easy in the 5th level. holy shit so many enemies XD
i recommend you all to test it. its a small game its fun. and its worth the 7-8 bucks. :3
cutesy little beat em up. controls are a little wonky, but shouldnt take too long to get used to them. typical of beat em ups, very repetative and same enemies over and over. boss fights are pretty interesting. the girl you play has a little bit of bounce to her. the 3 planes system is cool but i kinda wish i could just move up and down by the up and down on my gamepad. enstead i have to press Y button. for starters its a decent game at a fair price. but since its early access hoping the developer adds some more variety(enemies/levels) but its great to see an anime themed 2D scrolling beat em up!
