Real quick review to state that the online registration for the game is removed and the single player campaigns are ALL intact for the PC version of this game. It's safe to buy and enjoy.
Boring. Judging by the other reviews it's good I didn't become interested in this game since the majority of content is locked behind an account creation system that doesn't work anymore.
It's not terribly bad...but it's also not all that interesting. Recruit a huge number of troops, improve your districts, throw more troops at the enemy - rinse and repeat. You move across the map conquering territories and building an army, but you don't make many difficult choices - you're just putting the best troops in your army and trying to build things up as fast as you can. It's like this game wanted to be Heroes of Might & Magic but a board game...and it ended up being somewhat boring.
It´s a solid board game. The problem of not getting further than the first campagne has been solved. But in regard to its age, this game is too expensive. If you like ´Risk´, you should buy this game when it is on sale.
Fun addictive game. Not too complicated to play but a steep learning curve (I thought). Once you get the hang of it the strategy ensues. Fours sides to play, and each game is different. I bought this and can't stop playing it!
This is a good little strategy game. It fits into your game library very nicely when you want something more in depth than Risk, but still not requiring a huge time investment to figure out.
FYI - The bug in the single player campaign game has been fixed as of January 2, 2022. You can now buy this knowing it is fully functional.
If you purchase this game it will NOT unlock anything beyond the free-to-play level. The game's servers have been down for a year and you can't play even the single player campaigns. STEAM will not refund you your money if you spent more than 2 hours playing the free levels before purchasing.
I've been a STEAM customer for a long time and this is $30 stolen disappointing. I'd dispute the charge on my card if it didn't risk my STEAM library.
Originally I got this game on iOS for my iPad. I liked it so much I told friends about it and bought it for my PC. We enjoyed many hours of fun together. It had cross platform support, so my hours played far exceed the amount shown on Steam.
I bought the DLC and the campaign story lines were fun to play. Multiplayer was fun too. But I NO longer can recommend this game. Months before I wrote this review the game devs disabled the server required to log in to play the game. Yes this game uses a DRM tied to an authentication via their server. Without that the game has become COMPLETELY unplayable. I load it up and get a black screen because it cannot connect to their server.
I recommend no one waste their money on a game that is unplayable. I've given the game devs months to fix this problem. It's a shame because I would still have dun playing this game otherwise.
Great potential; but game servers die for months on end with no correction by BoomZap. As a result, you lose all campaign progress--SAD, because I wasted hours watching videos online prior to playing.
This game appears to be broken currently. I was able to play the first mission in the campaign, and tried to start the second mission, but nothing happens. I can click the "start" button, the mission is unlocked, but nothing.
The account creation doesn't work either. Yes, you're prompted to "create an account" to play a single player game, and yes "logging in" to play your single player game doesn't work. Since the game is a few years old, I'm betting the "authentication servers" are down, and that's that then. The in game "feedback" button also fails to do anything. There's a nice little place to send feedback and problem reports to the devs in the game, but of course it doesn't work anymore.
A bit annoying, since the first mission that did work, wasn't half bad. I'll check back in a bit to see if any dev responded, but I'm guessing this is completely dead, even the single player part! So if you thought this might have looked cool, even in the year of our lord 2021, you might have been right, but it doesn't matter because it's broken.
Another one of these games, that looks amazing and seems to offer interesting gameplay. But after you get into it and dig deeper (you know after you completed the demo and bought the full game), you notice it's was just all an illusion. That everything that there was to see and discover, you have already seen.
For a stragegic game it brings one of the most awfull and lazy AI approach. The computer opponent is dumb as a rock, and to balance that, it is usually given absurdly idiotic edge in starting resources and position. This is what's called 'fake' difficulty. A human player given such advantage would crush any opponent without problems.
I mean literraly in many cases if the AI opponent just took his starting troops and heroes and marched straight on my starting city, it would just be over. Another thing that did irritate me in a campaig, are the arbitrary conditions like "capture this in x amount of time, because of, well reasons..."
The only difference between the factions are in the units.
Overall it is not as if the game is terrible, it is just terribly disappointing.
Oh yeah, and I almost forgot, why the hell do you need to create some account to unlock further missions? I BOUGHT the damn thing already.
A good base game, but the required amount of strategy and sheer, disgusting amount of false and fake difficulty is impossible to overlook.
5vyou mission about halfway into the campaign, complete with "lose a territory, lose the game" condition? Check! Plus you're in the middle, so all 5 are constantly attacking you. And lose one territory, while you're scrambling to take it back enemy 2 and 3 are already taking another territory on the far side. So yeah, you've got 10 turns to take it back. And infinite turns of losing just one more city, one more space, and that 10 turn timer does not restart. And this is just ONE problem.
Automated battles, fine. 30 stack of a killer unit attacking the enemy's stack of 1 instead of the stack of 20, literally wasting all of their power and losing me the battle on that random chance alone? Not fine. If it's going to be "random" then you have to build around that, not around "Well you got unlucky play the last 3 hours over again."
Good base idea, horrendous execution, strategy buffs stay away. There's better, more tactical, and blatantly more fair titles out there deserving your attention. Or if you like redoing the same mission 4 times because RNG decided to ruin you, hey, this is your game. Enjoy your masochism.
This game makes me think that Risk and Eador had a child, and it's name was Legends of Callasia. I think it's incredibly well done. I have only played the single player story mode so far, but here's a few thoughts on the experience.
Pros ~
- Graphics are nice
- challenging story mode on some maps, but not impossible
- spell cards are a nice twist
- clear enough objectives
- balanced factions
- territory growth (very similiar to Eador), not super time consuming (like Eador is)
- building can only occur on a spot with your hero/army, so choosing growth or expansion is an important part of strategy

Cons ~
- It is not always clear what territories belong to which grouping bonus. The "thicker lines" to respresent this, blend in and can't really be seen on some maps. There is no way to click anything to highlight the grouping either, as in Warlight for example. You also see nothing about what bonus group an individual territory belongs to when selecting a specific spot. Only time playing and learning the maps will help figure this out.
- unit variety is basically 2 lvl 1 types, 2 lvl 2 types, and 2 lvl 3 types. Each faction get's their own 6 units that fall into this line. They for the most part are the same with different pictures, names, and slight stat variations.
To me the last con isn't super bad though. It allows simplicity and complexity to join hands with a nice blend. It enables you to focus more on the map and how your using your actions each turn. Then having to micro-manage your army.
I tried the demo one night recently. When I logged off for the night, I had 10 hours of play time. And I had stayed up later than I have in over a decade. I bought the game the following day and I'm still having fun with it.

With some games, we tend to concentrate on all sorts of factors that seem important, and overlook the one that's the most important of all - fun! This game is just great fun to play! I kind of enjoyed the free version, and figured it was worth the punt at what's a pretty reasonable price. I have quite a few digital board games in my library so I was just expecting this to be another to come back to from time to time, but I was pleasantly surprised that it immediately became my new favourite game.
As has been mentioned, it's basically a beefed-up version of Risk, and the short review is, if you like Risk, you're going to like this. The only major differences are:
- you improve territories you own, either with a town or a tower (or the odd portal from time to time) for most territories, or several upgrades for the main cities;
- heroes - armies only move around the map attached to a hero. You'll generally have 2 to 4 heroes wandering round the map at a time. Each hero has specific stat buffs - some are defenders, some have missile bonuses etc.
- each map is a scenario with specific objectives, and various factions that you either fight or ally with. You don't have to take over the whole map and conquer everyone (although you can if that's your thing!)
- there are cards that you can play for certain specific effects, some combat-related, some economic, and so on, and using the right card at the right time can have a huge impact.

In Summary
Reminds us that, in an age where we're in danger of obsessing about graphical engines, fps, always-online multiplayer ranking and impenetrable manuals, there's one thing that trumps everything in a game - is it fun? This game is fun.
Oh, and if you like Risk at all, this a no-brainer.
This is a good fantasy Risk-like game or a sort of primitive Dominions series game.
It suffers from lack of depth and poorly thought-out achievements.
Legends of Callasia is a nice game about simple strategy. You build and move armies to a point where enemy cannot fight back. What is clever is, it takes time to build a strong army, and campaigns are made to counter you by AI in a smart way.
The whole game is very nice, I will recommend it for any risk or 4x strategy master, it's just a simplier game with shorter mechanics in fantasy.
For me this game is a cross between Risk and Heroes of Might and Magic. If you like those games you will probably like this one.
Legends of Callasia
This is byfar one of the most addictive stratagy games I have played. It reminds me of Risk with three diffrent levels of of minions that you can attatch to Hero's. With an ultimate goal of well trying to take over the world. You also have bonus Cards you draw each turn that add interesting twists to the game Each hero has its own bonus perk that it adds to the units or city you place it in. time inbetween games can very depending on skill level of each player ultimatly I think anyone would enjoy this game.
it's more like simplified strategic game in fantasy setting.
You are hiring heroes, getting gold, countering more land (to increase army size), upgrade land and try to eliminate enemy. On top of that there is card system, where cards can affect gameplay in interesting ways.
Player can control 4 heroes that have one action per turn. There are 3 factions with variety of units, but I don't find many differences between units or factions themselves.
Battles are played automatically (ranged, then melee) and can be played over a couple of turns (that's quite interesting feature actually!). Same goes for sieges (couple of turns),
Overall I like this design - looks simple, but offers many options and tactics. If Age of Fear ever gets strategic view it will be something similar to that.

I must say I liked the demo, it's clean... not all too complicated and I imagine the rest of the campaign would post more challenges and fun scenarios as well as new aspects and units.
HOWEVER: liking the game and deciding to buy it I had to make an account. Done. Afterwards I couldn't buy it until I verified my account, for which they sent an email.
No email received, nothing in junk. After which I was told I should try a different email account.
I would like to make 1 thing very clear to the makers:
If your game cannot send emails to a hotmail account, that is your problem. You want your game to be bought? Fix it.
Because of this very simple reason I would not recommend it.
